City of Russell

RUSSELL - The Southwest Power Pool is no longer under an energy emergency alert (EEA). However, due to continuing high demand across the SPP region and continued cold weather, energy demand and production will fluctuate over the next 48-hours, meaning conditions can change rapidly.

Our customers' conservation efforts and the city's ability to generate electricity helped lower demands on the electric grid, keeping the city from experiencing the controlled outages other communities faced.

While the electric grid stabilizes, energy prices remain elevated.

A few items customers can consider to reduce electric and natural gas consumption:

• Avoid the use of electric space heaters
• Close blinds and shades to reduce the amount of heat loss through windows.
• Turn off unnecessary lights and appliances.
• When possible, delay non-essential energy use (washing/drying clothes) to hours lower in energy use (between 10 pm and 5 am).

"Thank You" to our customers for conserving energy these past few days.
