Posted Dec 31, 2022 11:45 AM

BUNKER HILL, KS – Smoky Hills PBS will air a day of local sports on New Year’s Day. The day will kick off at noon with the KSHSAA 8-Player State Football Championship (DI and DII).  Next, will be The Jackie Stiles Story at 5:30 p.m. followed by the 2022 Kansas Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

The KSHSAA 8-Player State Football Championship will start at noon with the DII Championship game between Axtell and Thunder Ridge. Following DII will be the DI championship game between Little River and Wichita County. These games were previously played on Nov. 26 in Newton.

The Jackie Stiles Story will air on Smoky Hills PBS at 5:30 p.m.  This inspirational film is about a 5’8” girl from Claflin, who became a basketball legend in the Midwest. Against all odds, Jackie became the all-time leading scorer in NCAA history and the WNBA Rookie-of-the-Year. Her coaches and teammates agree that Jackie’s work ethic will probably never be matched.

A re-airing of this documentary also will be available in March.  Check SmokyHillsPBS.org for a time and date to be announced.

The 2022 Kansas Sports Hall of Fame will be featured at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. The mission of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame is to honor those that have contributed to the history of sports in Kansas and to educate and inspire the public regarding the value of athletics and Kansas athletic history by providing the requisite leadership and resources. Some 2022 inductees include NASCAR driver CLINT BOWYER from Emporia; Emporia State women’s basketball All-American TARA HOLLOWAY CHURCHILL from Moundridge; the winningest coach in Kansas girls high school basketball JESSE NELSON from Olpe; former University of Kansas basketball coach, ROY WILLIAMS.  For a full list of the KSHOF Class of 2022 visit, www.kshof.org.
