KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced today Kauffman Stadium’s outfield wall is being moved in for the 2026 season.

This change will likely create more home runs (and robbed home runs), more extra-base hits, and more exciting action on the field – while bringing fans closer to seeing it. The decision was made by Baseball Operations for competitive reasons, including to bring The K more in line with other Major League ballparks.

Work on the project has begun, and will be complete ahead of the Royals home opener vs the Twins on Monday, March 30.

“We’ve discussed this possibility for years, and after much work by our Research &amp; Development department, believe this will be a positive change for our baseball team,” Royals Executive Vice President and General Manager J.J. Picollo said. “We wanted more consistency throughout the season, while making sure the specifics put us in the best position to succeed.”

The wall will come in 8 to 10 feet starting near each foul pole – the gaps will go from 387 feet to 379 – and taper back toward centerfield, which will remain 410 feet. The height of the wall will also change, from 10 feet tall in most places to 8 ½ feet. About 150 seats will be added in left field and about 80 new drinkrail seats in right.

The club’s research estimates the changes will take the run value of fly balls at The K from the bottom third of MLB ballparks to the middle, primarily through more extra-base hits.

Over the last three seasons, these specific changes would have benefitted the Royals overall, even accounting for more extra-base hits by opponents.

“Making this a fairer ballpark will help with roster construction, but more importantly will allow our players to keep the same approach regardless of where we play,” Royals Vice President – Research &amp; Development/Assistant GM Dr. Daniel Mack said. “Our approach was carefully considered to account for as many factors as possible. We believe this will ultimately reduce the constraints within Kauffman Stadium.”

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs returned to Mid-Continent League
play Monday night with a doubleheader sweep of the Hill City Ringnecks at Al
Billinger Fieldhouse.

GIRLS: TMP 58, Hill City 18 The TMP-Marian girls held Hill City to just four field goals,
and they outscored the Ringnecks 29-4 in the third quarter on their way to a
58-18 victory.

The Monarchs (5-3, 2-0 MCL) jumped out to an early 12-4
lead, with Raegan Allen scoring six of her team-high 12 points in the first
quarter. 

Hannah Rose, Ava Flynn and Brynn Rebel each added three
pointers, giving TMP a 15-9 lead through the first quarter,

Hill City (2-7, 1-3 MCL) managed just two points in the
second quarter as TMP extended their lead to 26-11 heading into the halftime
break.

The Monarchs connected on five third-quarter three-pointers
as they outscored the Ringnecks 29-4 as they built a 52-15 lead through three
quarters.

With the continuous clock in the final period the Monarchs
earned a 58-18 victory.

Twelve Monarchs scored in the game and Raegan Allen scored a
team-high 12 points. Brynn Rebel added a career-high 11 points. 

BOYS: TMP 55, Hill City 26 The TMP-Marian boys opened Monday’s game on a 16-4 run and
used a 17-0 run to end the first half and begin the second on their way to a
55-26 victory over the Ringnecks.

Ty Schmeidler opened the game with three straight three
pointers putting the Monarchs up 9-0. They added two more three pointers in the
first quarter for a 19-6 lead.

TMP grew the lead to 18 in the second quarter, at 24-6.&nbsp; During that run, Jacob Seib, Ian Nehls and Schmeidler
combined to score 17 straight points and build a 41-29 lead.

The Monarchs extended their lead to 44-14 on Schmeidler’s
fourth three of the game, midway through the third period.

TMP led 46-18 through three quarters of action and finished
with the 55-26 victory.

Ty Schmeidler led all scorers with 20 points.

🏀🎥 TMP return to MCL action against Hill City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A record-breaking assist performance helped Fort Hays State's Brooke Loewe earn the latest MIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor, announced Monday (Jan. 12) by the league office.

Loewe averaged a double-double in a pair of wins last week, helping the sixth-ranked Tigers to a pair of road wins capping off a run of four games in eight days. The senior opened the week with a school-record 17 assists and eight points in a come-from-behind win over Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday (Jan. 6).

The Huxley, Iowa native followed that up with 15 assists, 12 points and five rebounds in a win at Emporia State. That performance would have broken her old school record of 14 assists in a game were it not for her outing two days prior.

Both assist totals are more than any other Division II student-athlete this season, while her program-record 17 assists are the most across all NCAA Divisions this season and are the most by a DII athlete since 2023.

Loewe is now averaging 11.1 assists per game this season and is the only individual across all NCAA basketball, male or female, to average in double figures in assists. The guard has totaled 11 or more assists eight times this season while no other DII competitor has had more than three such performances.

Alongside Talexa Weeter's four weekly recognitions, the Tigers have now won five of the eight weekly honors given out by the conference this season. No other team in the league has had more than one weekly winner.

Fort Hays State will be back out on the road this week starting Thursday (Jan. 15) when the Tigers take on Missouri Western beginning at 5:30 p.m. in St. Joseph, Mo.

The Kansas Shrine Bowl has announced the 88 players who have received invitations to play in the 53rd&nbsp;Kansas Shrine Bowl on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Welch Stadium on the campus of Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. 

Hays High’s Holden Lind, Victoria’s Kyle Huser and Plainville’s Ryddick Bethel have all been named to the West Roster.&nbsp;

These invitations are the result of a selection process combining statewide media votes and Kansas Shrine Bowl coaching staff selections from a list of nearly 400 nominees. In addition to filling position specific needs on the roster, the selection process includes additional criteria regarding geographic restrictions, classification size, and limits on the number of players that may be selected per school. TOPEKA - Hays High finished runner-up at the Lady Vikes Invitational hosted by Topeka Seaman High School on Saturday.&nbsp;

The Indians finished with 253 points. Washburn Rural, ranked sixth in 6A, won the event with an impressive 344 points. Hays is ranked tenth as a team in 5A in the most recent KWCA rankings. They finished 11.5 points ahead of the fifth ranked team, Emporia.

Lexi Barnett was the lone Hays wrestler to bring home the gold as she record a pin in each match that was contested at 155 pounds.&nbsp;

Audrey Yarmer was runner-up at 105 pounds. At 120 pounds, Kenlee Vehige also finished in second place. She lost to 5A's number one ranked wrestler at the weight class in the finals.

Reese Vehige also made the final before falling in the finals at 140 pounds for second place. 145 pound wrestler, Timber Lovewell finished in second place. She is ranked sixth at the weight and defeated the fifth ranked wrestler in the semifinal match.&nbsp;

Eleanor Stoffel was the fifth Hays wrestler to finish in second place.&nbsp;

Emersyn Copper placed third at 100 pounds and Addison Nueberger finished the same at 125.

Crystal Walters placed fourth at 140 pounds as did Audrey Gutierrez at 170.&nbsp;

Chloe Robben was fifth at 110 pounds.&nbsp;

Diop, a 7-foot-1 freshman, was 8-of-10 shooting, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked five shots. Anthony Johnson added 18 points, Santiago Trouet had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Allen Mukeba also scored 10 points for ASU (10-6, 1-2).

P.J. Haggerty, coming in seventh in the nation in scoring at 22.7 ppg, finished with 25 points, and Abdi Bashir Jr. made 6 of 12 3-point tries in finishing with 22 points for the Wildcats (9-7, 0-3), who lost their third straight.

Kansas State had a 64-58 lead midway through the second half but then went over five minutes without a field goal when ASU scored 10 straight points to begin a 18-3 run capped by Diop's dunk to lead 76-67 with less than five minutes left.

Khamari McGriff's follow with 16.6 seconds remaining got Kansas State within three. After a Johnson free throw, Haggerty banked in a long 3-pointer with five seconds remaining and the Wildcats were within a point. They quickly fouled Odum, who made both free throws. But coming out of a timeout, Haggerty was short on a half-court attempt.

The No. 9 ranked Tigers earned a commanding 38-7 win over West Liberty before falling just short in a 25–21 battle against No. 8 ranked Emmanuel University. The Tigers are now 5-3 overall in dual action for the season.

#9 Fort Hays State 38, West Liberty 7 Fort Hays State opened Saturday's action by matching its largest dual margin of victory this season, winning by 31 over West Liberty. The Tigers won nine of ten matches and piled up bonus points in the 38-7 victory.

The Tigers set the tone early with four straight bonus‑point wins. Jaidyn Alvarado (103) opened the dual with a fall in 1:38, followed by a 10‑0 tech fall from Isabella Cross (110). No. 8 ranked Leiannah Landreth (117) added an 18‑7 tech fall, and Morgan Maschmann (124) delivered another 10‑0 tech fall to push FHSU out to a 17-1 lead.

After West Liberty earned its lone win at 131 by fall, the Tigers closed the dual with five consecutive victories. HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs dropped both games of a home
doubleheader with the Sacred Heart Knights on Friday night at Al Billinger
Fieldhouse.

The Sacred Heart girls used a 13-4 third-quarter run to go
up double-figures on their way to a 51-38 victory.

The Knights (8-2) opened the game on a 9-1 run and led by as
many as nine in the first quarter before TMP’s Paige Koenigsman hit
back-to-back jumpers to close out the first quarter, with Sacred Heart leading
14-9.

The Knights would keep the trend in each of the next three
quarters of putting together big scoring runs.

They opened the second quarter on a 10-2 run and led by 13
before the Monarchs answered with a 12-0 run, capped off by a pair of
Koenigsman three’s and two Hannan Rose free throws.


But the Knights answered with a three of their own and led 27-23 at halftime.

The Sacred Heart runs to open the second half was 10-2, and they
led TMP 40-30 through three quarters.

In the final frame, Sacred Heart outscored the Monarchs 11-8,

It would take an extra four minutes for the #4-ranked Sacred
Heart and TMP-Marian boys to decide a win Friday night, with the Knights (10-0)
coming away with the 48-45 victory.

The game was a low-scoring affair, with neither team
breaking into double figures until the second quarter.

TMP (3-4) missed their first 11 three-point attempts and trailed
5-4 after the first quarter.

Down 9-4 to open the second, Jacob Seib got the scoring
started for TMP, making it 9-6, and then Ty Schmeidler and Caden Dinkel
converted on back-to-back three-point attempts, giving TMP the 12-9 lead. 

After a couple of ties and five lead changes in the final
three minutes of the first half, TMP was left clinging to a 19-18 halftime
lead.

Sacred Heart regained the lead twice in the early moments of
the third quarter, the final time at 23-22, and they led by six through three
quarters, 28-22.

In the final quarter, TMP slowly chipped away at the lead,
and Ian Nehls and Schmeidler both scored seven points, including the game-tying
three-pointer for Schmeidler with 30 seconds to play.

An outstanding defensive effort by Will Eck, altering the
potential game-winning shot, for the Knights, as time expired sent the game to
overtime.

In the extra frame, Sacred Heart led by as many as six on their
way to a 48-45 win.

Hays High hosted their second Centennial League opponent of the week on Friday evening as they welcomed Emporia to town.

Girls:&nbsp;#5 Hays 51, Emporia 25 Hays used big runs in each of the first three quarters to pull away from Emporia in a 51-25 victory.

The Indians scored the first eight points of the game and never trailed in the contest. The Hays (9-1) defense allowed just one of nine shooting in the first quarter and led 10-2. The Indians had multiple first quarter shots rattle around inside the rim but pop out.

Hays shot better rest of the way. Emporia (4-6) trimmed the Indian advantage down to 12-7 with back-to-back field goals in the first two minutes of the second quarter. The Indians responded with a 14-2 run that saw five different players score, leading to a 26-9 lead at halftime.

Emporia never got closer than fifteen points in the second half. The Indians took control of the third quarter with a 13-2 run that again saw five different players score.

Hays pushed their lead as high as 30 at 47-17 just thirty seconds into the fourth quarter to enact a continuous clock. Emporia outscored Hays 8-7 in the fourth quarter leaving Hays with a 51-25 victory.

Twelve players got onto the court for Hays and nine of them scored.

Boys: #8 Hays 55, #3 Emporia 54 Hays High overcame cold fourth quarter free throw shooting to win 55-54 over the previously undefeated Emporia Spartans.

Hays and Emporia traded the lead over the first six minutes of the game. Leading 10-9, Hays saw Emporia miss three free throws over two trip to tie or take the lead with just over a minute to go in the first quarter. The Indians scored four straight points to end the first with a 14-9 lead.

Emporia again scored the first points of the quarter and make the game a one possession affair at 14-11. Hays used the next two minutes to score ten consecutive points for their first double-digit lead of the game at 24-11.&nbsp;

The Indians eventually pushed their advantage to a game high 15 at 29-14 with 1:10 left in the first half. Emporia scored the final five points of the second quarter to crawl within ten at halftime 29-19.

The lead for Hays hovered around ten points for the majority of the third quarter. With 1:10 left in the third quarter Emporia started their comeback. A 15-3 run by the Spartans that took just over five minutes tied the game at 43.

The teams would be tied one more time at 45 with 2:50 remaining.

Hays took a pair of five point leads at 50-45 and 52-47 in the final two minutes. Emporia scored the game's next six points. A pair of free throws with :29.4 second remaining gave the Spartans their first lead since the score was 7-4 in the first quarter.

The Indians missed a pair of free throws to tie the game with 25.2 seconds left. Emporia managed to make just one of two free throws with 23.5 remaining. Hays was fouled just twelve seconds later. Izaac Fox made the first of two free throws with :11.4 on the clock.&nbsp;

The second free throw was short, but rebounded by Dawson Ruder who scored on the put back to match his career high of 27 points and give the Indians a 55-54 lead.&nbsp;

Emporia elected not to use one of their final two timeouts and missed a shot near the rim. Hays gathered the rebound and was fouled with just .2 second left to secure the one point victory, 55-54.&nbsp;

Fox and Ruder each recorded a double-double for the second consecutive game. Fox had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Ruder added 11 rebounds to his 27 points.

Hays is off until next Friday when they travel to Garden City.

🏀 Hays girls and boys grab wins over Emporia

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The No. 9 Fort Hays State women's wrestling team battled through a challenging opening day at the NWCA/USMC National Duals, coming up short in their first two matches of the tournament. The No. 9 ranked Tigers fell 28-20 to Sacred Heart University in the opening round, then 25-24 to No. 20 ranked William Jewell in the consolation first round. The Tigers are now 4-2 overall for the season.

Sacred Heart 28, Fort Hays State 20 The Tigers fought adversity right out of the gate when Sacred Heart claimed the first match by injury default just over two minutes into action. SHU picked up a fall in the 110 match and led 10-0 to start.

No. 8 ranked Leiannah Landreth (117) and Morgan Maschmann (124) gave the Tigers life with back-to-back wins. Landreth dominated with a 13-1 tech fall and Maschmann was just one point shy of a tech fall, but had to settle for an 11-2 decision. SHU led 12-7 through four matches.

Sacred Heart moved back in front by 10 with another fall at 131, but No. 10 ranked Peyton Hellmann responded with a fall of her own in just 31 seconds at 138, making the score 17-12 in favor of Sacred Heart.

Dylen Ritchey tightened the screws a bit more on the SHU lead with a 4-2 decision at 145, leaving the Tigers down by just three, but Sacred Heart's third fall of the match at 160 put its lead at 23-15. No. 1 ranked Isabella Renfro continued her dominant run for the season, offsetting the SHU fall with a pin in 1:38. Sacred Heart led 23-20 going into the final match.

Grace Johns had a good start in the 207 match with an early lead, trying to push the Tigers past the Pioneers. However, the match turned in favor of SHU and ended with a fall solidifying the win for the Pioneers. The teams split the matches within the dual 5-5, but all five of the SHU wins were worth five points.

William Jewell 25, Fort Hays State 24 The Tigers had to play catch up again in their second match of the day and nearly got over the hump late, but came up a point short. The Cardinals started off with a 14-0 lead through three matches, capitalizing on the Tigers being open at 103. The 117 match featured a pair of nationally ranked wrestlers in No. 5 Alexandra Waitsman (WJC) against No. 8 Leiannah Landreth. Waitsman completed the 14-point run for William Jewell to open the match with a tech fall win.

Morgan Maschmann (124) stopped the William Jewell run with a 12-2 tech fall, but the Cardinals scored a fall at 131 and pushed their lead up to 16 points at 20-4.

The Tigers looked poised for a big comeback when No. 10 ranked Peyton Hellmann (138) and Dylen Ritchey (145) dialed up a pair of much-needed pins to get the Tigers back in the match, down just six at 20-14. The 160 match was looking good for the Tigers early as Josie Houk held a lead, but unfortunately Paige Barber of William Jewell flipped the Tiger momentum with a pin and put the dual out of reach at 25-14.

The result was unfortunate for the Tigers as they went on to score two more pins to close out the dual. No. 1 ranked Renfro moved to 20-0 overall for the season with a pin in 1:14, then Grace Johns closed out the dual at 207 with a pin in 1:55. The Tigers fell just a point short despite splitting the matches in the dual 5-5. FHSU won five of the nine matches contested without the forfeit at 103.

 </figure>FHSU AthleticsCEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The No. 9 Fort Hays State women's wrestling team battled through a challenging opening day at the NWCA/USMC National Duals, coming up short in their first two matches of the tournament. The No. 9 ranked Tigers fell 28-20 to Sacred Heart University in the opening round, then 25-24 to No. 20 ranked William Jewell in the consolation first round. The Tigers are now 4-2 overall for the season.Sacred Heart 28, Fort Hays State 20 The Tigers fought adversity right out of the gate when Sacred Heart claimed the first match by injury default just over two minutes into action. SHU picked up a fall in the 110 match and led 10-0 to start.No. 8 ranked Leiannah Landreth (117) and Morgan Maschmann (124) gave the Tigers life with back-to-back wins. Landreth dominated with a 13-1 tech fall and Maschmann was just one point shy of a tech fall, but had to settle for an 11-2 decision. SHU led 12-7 through four matches.Sacred Heart moved back in front by 10 with another fall at 131, but No. 10 ranked Peyton Hellmann responded with a fall of her own in just 31 seconds at 138, making the score 17-12 in favor of Sacred Heart.Dylen Ritchey tightened the screws a bit more on the SHU lead with a 4-2 decision at 145, leaving the Tigers down by just three, but Sacred Heart's third fall of the match at 160 put its lead at 23-15. No. 1 ranked Isabella Renfro continued her dominant run for the season, offsetting the SHU fall with a pin in 1:38. Sacred Heart led 23-20 going into the final match.Grace Johns had a good start in the 207 match with an early lead, trying to push the Tigers past the Pioneers. However, the match turned in favor of SHU and ended with a fall solidifying the win for the Pioneers. The Cardinals started off with a 14-0 lead through three matches, capitalizing on the Tigers being open at 103. The 117 match featured a pair of nationally ranked wrestlers in No. 5 Alexandra Waitsman (WJC) against No. 8 Leiannah Landreth. Waitsman completed the 14-point run for William Jewell to open the match with a tech fall win.Morgan Maschmann (124) stopped the William Jewell run with a 12-2 tech fall, but the Cardinals scored a fall at 131 and pushed their lead up to 16 points at 20-4.The Tigers looked poised for a big comeback when No. 10 ranked Peyton Hellmann (138) and Dylen Ritchey (145) dialed up a pair of much-needed pins to get the Tigers back in the match, down just six at 20-14. The 160 match was looking good for the Tigers early as Josie Houk held a lead, but unfortunately Paige Barber of William Jewell flipped the Tiger momentum with a pin and put the dual out of reach at 25-14.The result was unfortunate for the Tigers as they went on to score two more pins to close out the dual. No. 1 ranked Renfro moved to 20-0 overall for the season with a pin in 1:14, then Grace Johns closed out the dual at 207 with a pin in 1:55. The Tigers fell just a point short despite splitting the matches in the dual 5-5. MARSHALL, Minn. - The Fort Hays State men's wrestling team picked up one team win at the Iron Mike Duals Friday (Jan. 9). The Tigers (3-6, 1-0 MIAA) defeated host Southwest Minnesota State 24-15 after suffering defeats against Quincy, Sioux Falls and Northern State.

Cason Lindsey and Ryan Patterson both went a perfect 4-0 on the day, including four bonus-point wins for Patterson at 197 and two for Lindsey at 165. The Tigers combined for 17 individual wins on the day.

Kaiden Hoffman got the Tigers on the board against the Eagles with a 6-5 decision at 141 pounds, winning thanks to a late takedown. A pair of first-period takedowns later helped Cason Lindsey a 10-4 decision at 165 pounds. Ryan Patterson then secured a dominant 18-3 technical fall at 197 pounds thanks to three takedowns, two reversals and four nearfall points. Quincy took the other seven bouts, winning 32-11.

Sioux Falls went up 17-0 to start the second match of the day with four-straight wins, but FHSU won the next four to battle back within 17-15. Lindsey started the run with a 15-3 major decision that included four takedowns before Ernesto Duenez captured a 6-1 decision at 174 pounds thanks to a third-period takedown.

But the Wolves bounced back, taking the final two matchups to win 36-15.The final matchup of the day opened at 149 pounds, with Jarret Mader using three first-period takedowns to lock up a 14-6 major decision. The Mustangs answered with a technical fall to take a momentary 5-4 lead, but Lindsey finished his perfect day with an 18-9 major decision to put the Tigers back up 8-5.Duenez followed with his second win of the day, capitalizing on a second-period takedown to earn a 4-0 decision. Frank followed with another victory at 184 pounds, managing two takedowns and a four count to lead to a 12-6 decision. Patterson kept things rolling with an 11-1 major decision behind the strength of three takedowns to finish the afternoon 4-0.Thomas secured a 5-0 decision at 285 pounds, picking up his second win of the tournament and putting FHSU in front 21-5.
