Fort Hays State and Washburn meet for the 78th&nbsp;time in football on Saturday night at Lewis Field Stadium in Hays. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The Tigers enter the game at 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA, receiving votes in the latest AFCA Top 25 Poll, and the Ichabods enter at 1-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Fort Hays State is coming off a 31-21 win over then No. 12 ranked Central Missouri last week in Hays. The result knocked the Mules out of the Top 25 of both the AFCA and D2Football.com Polls. It was Fort Hays State's third-straight win over an AFCA Top 25 ranked team in Hays, going back to last season.

Washburn fell in a home contest to Northwest Missouri State last week by a score of 51-34. Washburn's lone win this season was over Missouri Western on the road two weeks ago by a score of 24-16. The Ichabods' 1-4 record can be a bit deceiving though since all four of their losses have been to teams that have seen time in the AFCA Top 25 this season. Two of the four losses have been one-score games. This will be the fifth contest for the Ichabods against a team that has seen time in the AFCA Top 25 this season after FHSU was inside the Top 25 earlier this season.

Fort Hays State won last year's meeting between the schools in Topeka by a score of 31-28. The Tigers held a 31-14 lead going to the fourth quarter before the Ichabods tightened the margin with a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Washburn won the last meeting between the schools in Hays back in 2022, but the Tigers had won three-straight games over the Ichabods at home prior to that.

Fort Hays State has played well at home so far this season going 4-0, while limiting opponents to an average of just 11 points per game. The Tigers held the opposition to seven or less points in two of the four wins at home this season. The winning team in this series has scored at least 30 points in 11 of the last 13 meetings. Fort Hays State has scored at least 20 points in all six of its games so far this season with 37 as the season high.

Caleb Heavner&nbsp;has led the Tiger offense at quarterback over the last seven quarters of play. He entered the game at Central Oklahoma late in the first quarter and has been thriving in his role ever since. He threw for 275 yards and rushed for 55 yards in the contest at UCO, then backed that with 302 passing yards and 97 rushing yards in the win over Central Missouri last week.

Also giving the Tigers strong offensive production is Shane Watts, averaging 129 all-purpose yards per game. He has produced at least 100 all-purpose yards in five of six games this season. He is tied for the MIAA lead in scoring with nine touchdowns (54 points), which includes seven rushing touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, Makel Williams&nbsp;was named the MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week for a career-high 14 tackles in the win over Central Missouri last week. He continues to lead the MIAA in tackles this season, now with 53. He averages 8.8 per game. The Williams combo on defense (no immediate relation), which includes Benyon Williams,&nbsp;both have exactly 214 tackles in their careers. Makel has all of his tackles at FHSU, while Benyon played his first three years at North Carolina Wesleyan.

Both John Johnson (189) and Mason Perez&nbsp;(183) are nearing 200 tackles in their careers as well. Myles Menges&nbsp;leads the Tigers with 4.0 sacks for the season, while Sam Brandt&nbsp;leads in interceptions with two.&nbsp;&nbsp;

SEARCY, Ark. – The Fort Hays State men's soccer team pushed its win streak to three on Saturday after defeating the Harding. The Tiger offense put on a show throughout the match for an impressive 5-1 victory. The win moved FHSU to 6-3-1 overall, 2-2 in GAC play, while Harding fell to 0-8-3 overall, 0-5 in conference matches.

The Tigers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/fabian-gylden-svensson/8349">Fabian Gylden Svensson</a>&nbsp;netting his second goal of the season just under 10 minutes into the match. His goal came from a perfectly executed cross from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/marcos-german/8347">Marcos German</a>.&nbsp; FHSU quickly doubled their lead when Tadgh Walsh set up&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/lucas-garay/8346">Lucas Garay</a>&nbsp;for his first collegiate goal. Walsh is now tied for the national lead with nine assists.

Harding found an opportunity to narrow the lead after a foul by&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-soccer/roster/wouter-van-der-borch/8367">Wouter Van der Borch</a>&nbsp;in the box, allowing Lesego Maloma to convert a penalty kick and cut the deficit to 2-1.&nbsp; Walsh restored the Tigers' two-goal cushion before halftime by finishing a precise cross from German, who now has four assists in the past two matches. The Tigers held a 3-1 lead going into halftime, outshooting the Bisons 17-9. Van der Borch made four crucial saves in the first half, the most by any FHSU goalkeeper in a single half this season.

OAKLEY – The TMP-Marian Monarchs rallied from down two
touchdowns in the fourth quarter to beat the Oakley Plainsmen Friday night
28-20 and move into a tie for first place in the district with two weeks left
in the regular season.

Oakley Plainsmen got on the board first, taking advantage of
a roughing the punter penalty after it looked like the Monarchs had forced a
three-and-out to start the game. Oakley scored on a 25-yard touchdown run and
led 7-0 with just over seven minutes left in the first quarter.

The TMP offense struggled to get going for most of the night,
punting on three of its first four drives and turning the ball over on downs twice.


After the Monarchs' first three-and-out, Carson Liles pinned
Oakley inside the four and on third down, Caden Dinkel intercepted a pass and
returned it 12 yards for a touchdown cutting Oakley’s lead to 7-6 with just
under four minutes and thirty seconds left in the first quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, Oakley put together a
12-play touchdown drive, capped off by a one-yard touchdown run, making it
13-6.

Both teams moved the ball in the third quarter, but the
score remained 13-6 until Oakley’s broke on the scoreboard with just over 10 minutes
left, scoring a one-yard touchdown run for a 20-6 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, the team got a great kickoff by
Adler Brown to their 47-yard line. Four plays later, they scored on a 32-yard
touchdown pass from Liles to Jacob Seib. The same two connected on the
two-point conversion as the Monarchs cut the deficit to 20-14 with 9:20 left in
the game.

An Oakley fumble near midfield gave the Monarchs the ball
back with less than eight minutes left, and they again proceeded to drive down
the field on a 10-play drive, converting on a fourth-and-16 and a third-and-21 before
Liles scored on a nine-yard touchdown run, tying the game at 20.

The Monarchs lined up to kick the extra point, and on a bad
snap, Liles picked up the pass,&nbsp;his pass was deflected by a TMP player and
ended up in Brown’s hands for an improbable two-point conversion to put TMP up
22-20 with just over three and a half to play.

Oakley fumbled on their next offensive possession deep in
their territory, and Liles capped off a short scoring drive with a little
more than two minutes to play, putting TMP up 28-20. TMP would go on to win by
that score.

TMP’s Carson Liles completed 15-of-23 passes for 170 yards
and added two rushing touchdowns. Jacob Seib hauled in seven receptions for
90 yards, and Issac Purington added seven catches for 71 yards.

TMP improves to 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in district play.

Oakley drops to 2-4, and they are also 2-1 in the district.

TMP hosts Syracuse next Friday at 6 p.m. at Lewis
Field in Hays.

🏈Second half rally leads Monarchs past Oakley Plainsmen

Hays High hosted Dodge City for Homecoming on Friday night. The Indians were looking for their first home win of the season.

Dodge City held the ball on the game's opening drive for nearly four minutes before punting the ball away. Hays took over on their own 40 and had possession for the next 7:05. The drive took 15 plays and resulted in a one yard fourth down touchdown plunge by quarterback Carter Graham. The Indians converted on fourth down three times on the drive and third down once. The extra point missed.

The Indian defense gave up a 51 yard pass play in the second quarter but ran down the receiver just shy of the 10 yard line. That proved to be a big moment as Dodge City missed a 26 yard field goal to end the drive, leaving the score 6-0 at halftime.

Like the game before in Junction City, Hays found their rhythm in the second half. The Indians took the opening drive of the second half six plays and 59 yards for a touchdown. Ian McGuire opened the half with a 40 yard kick off return and then finished the drive with a one yard score. Between those to plays Graham hit Johnny Cano for a 54 yard pass on third down. The extra point pushed the Hays lead to 13-0.

The Hays defense forced a punt after three plays and the Indian offense again kicked into gear. A nine play 69 yard drive was capped off when Graham hit Cano for a five yard score and 19-0 lead.

Dodge City threatened to score in the fourth quarter. The Red Demons got the ball inside of the one yard line but backed themselves up on penalties to the 15 yard line and then was sacked for a six yard loss. The Hays defense held on downs to preserve the shutout.

Hays took the ensuing possession 85 yards through eight plays and Holden Lind scored for the first time on a 14 yard score for the final of 26-0. Both Lind and McGuire went of 100 yards on the evening while Graham threw for 103.

Cooper Lindenmeyer forced a fumble which he recovered and then intercepted a pass.

Hays shuts out Dodge City for the first time since 2003. The Indians have won the last five games over Dodge City, the second longest streak for Hays in the series.

The Indians are 4-2, 2-0. Dodge City falls to 3-3, 1-2.

Hays High hosted Dodge City for Homecoming on Friday night. The Indians took the opening drive of the second half six plays and 59 yards for a touchdown. Ian McGuire opened the half with a 40 yard kick off return and then finished the drive with a one yard score. Between those to plays Graham hit Johnny Cano for a 54 yard pass on third down. The extra point pushed the Hays lead to 13-0.The Hays defense forced a punt after three plays and the Indian offense again kicked into gear. A nine play 69 yard drive was capped off when Graham hit Cano for a five yard score and 19-0 lead.Dodge City threatened to score in the fourth quarter. The Red Demons got the ball inside of the one yard line but backed themselves up on penalties to the 15 yard line and then was sacked for a six yard loss. The Hays defense held on downs to preserve the shutout.Hays took the ensuing possession 85 yards through eight plays and Holden Lind scored for the first time on a 14 yard score for the final of 26-0. The Tigers struggled out of the gate, quickly falling behind by seven, 9-2. Three kills from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/grace-schmedding/8180">Grace Schmedding</a>&nbsp;helped FHSU score five of the next six points to close within three, 10-7, before the Ichabods rattled off four in a row to go back up seven. The teams traded points over the next several rallies before Washburn scored three in a row to turn a 22-22 tie into a 25-22 win.

The visitors started to pull away early in the second set, eventually leading by as many as 10, 22-12. Fort Hays State wouldn't go down without a fight, however, scoring the next five points and eight of the next nine to close within three, 23-20. Olson fueled the run with three kills and one assisted block alongside Lovesee. Washburn managed to thwart the Tiger momentum, taking the frame 25-21 before pulling away to take the third set, 25-15.

The Tigers had seven runners in the top eight and eight in the top 10.

This is Fort Hays State's sixth-straight victory in a regular season race in Emporia dating back to 2014. The Tigers finished 41 points in front of second-place Emporia State. FHSU has yet to lose to a non-DI team in 2024.

EMPORIA, Kan. - The Fort Hays State men's cross country team placed five runners in the top seven Friday at the Emporia State Invitational, helping the Tigers to their second team victory of the season. FHSU racked up 18 team points in the process, 41 points in front of second-place Central Missouri.

🏃‍♂️ FHSU men win Emporia State Invitational

EDMOND, Okla. – Fort Hays State fell to Central Oklahoma by a score of 5-2 on Friday afternoon in an MIAA contest. An early red card on the Tigers aided the Bronchos in having an offensive advantage for the majority of the contest. FHSU moved to 5-3-3 overall and 2-2-1 in the MIAA, while UCO improved to 5-4-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the MIAA.

Central Oklahoma scored its first goal 21 minutes into the match when a ball saved by Tiger keeper&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/mackenzie-caldwell/8128">Mackenzie Caldwell</a>&nbsp;rebounded perfectly to Jada Ryan of UCO right in front of an open net. About nine minutes later, UCO had a breakaway opportunity and their player was tripped up by Caldwell in the box in a 1-on-1 situation. The officials decided to issue a red card for the foul, which denied the goal-scoring chance for the Bronchos. With the foul,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/tatum-hoge/8087">Tatum Hoge</a>&nbsp;entered the game at goalkeeper and FHSU had to play a player down the final 60 minutes of the match.

Madison Linavong of UCO cashed in the penalty kick and then Tatum Tallal added a goal in the 34th&nbsp;minute, helping push the lead to 3-0 by halftime.

Even being a player down the rest of the match, the Tigers showed enough grit to score twice on the Bronchos. UCO went up 4-0 after a Becca Tweedy goal in the 47th&nbsp;minute, but&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/taylor-hill/8126">Taylor Hill</a>&nbsp;responded a minute later with a goal off a long pass from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/laila-cook/8080">Laila Cook</a>. Twedy scored another goal in the 52nd&nbsp;minute, but the Tigers countered again with a&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/sydney-cotter/8104">Sydney Cotter</a>&nbsp;goal shot from outside the box in the 61st&nbsp;minute.

The Tigers had seven saves overall in the match, three by Hoge in relief and Caldwell with four in the early going. All eight shots for FHSU in the contest were on goal.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Gerrit Cole pitched like a postseason ace Thursday night, holding the Kansas City Royals to a single run over seven innings and sending the New York Yankees to a 3-1 victory that put them back in&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/MLB">the American League Championship Series</a>.

The six-time All-Star scattered six hits and struck out four before handing the ball to the New York bullpen, which dominated&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mlb-playoffs-yankees-royals-new-york-kansas-city-8bad4d90f6891eda52d67b0aa4e4c44d">a tense AL Division Series</a>. Clay Holmes tossed a perfect eighth inning and Luke Weaver breezed through the ninth, extending the scoreless streak by Yankees relievers to 15 2/3 innings this postseason.

New York will play Cleveland or Detroit of the ALCS starting Monday night at Yankee Stadium.

<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mlb-playoffs-yankees-soto-royals-new-york-0e67745813372aaca6bc33b027b4c669">Juan Soto, Gleyber Torres</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mlb-playoffs-yankees-royals-new-york-kansas-city-e5552ac80a6c03f893b1da38a804f8bf">Game 3 star Giancarlo Stanton</a>&nbsp;drove in runs for the Yankees, who fittingly clinched a spot in their fourth ALCS in eight years on the road. They won 50 games away from home in the regular season, their most in 21 years.

Michael Wacha&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mlb-playoffs-yankees-royals-new-york-kansas-city-417218832d775dd13038728c98244dd4">failed to get through five innings</a>&nbsp;for Kansas City, allowing two runs, six hits and a walk. He didn't get much help from a long-scuffling offense that managed just five runs total over the final three games of the series.

Still, it was a remarkable turnaround for a club that went from 106-loss laughingstock a year ago to making its first postseason appearance since winning the 2015 World Series. And with young stars such as Bobby Witt Jr. signed to long-term deals, there is hope in Kansas City that this was a beginning rather than an ending.

New York set the tone from the start, pouncing on Wacha like it did in the series opener. Torres hit the veteran right-hander's first pitch of the game for a double, and Soto followed with an RBI single on just the third pitch of the night.

Anthony Volpe kept on the pressure with his single in the fifth. And after Alex Verdugo grounded into a forceout and Jon Berti singled to put runners on the corners, Torres lined a two-out single to make it 2-0 and put an end to Wacha's night.

Meanwhile, Cole only seemed to get stronger as he clicked off innings.

The reigning Cy Young Award winner retired his first six batters, worked around a leadoff single in the third and retired eight more before Tommy Pham's single in the fifth. Cole promptly struck out Kyle Isbel on three pitches to end that inning.

Stanton, who hit the go-ahead homer in the eighth inning in Game 3, extended the lead to 3-0 with his single in the sixth.

Tensions that had simmered all night — and all series, after Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. called the Royals' Game 2 win “lucky” — finally boiled over in the sixth. Volpe slapped a hard tag on Maikel Garcia at second base to complete a double play, and the Royals third baseman took umbrage with it. Players spilled out of both dugouts before order was restored.

The near-fracas nearly ignited Kansas City, too. Witt, who had been 1 for 15 in the series, followed with a base hit and Vinnie Pasquantino — who'd been 0 for 14 — had an RBI double. Fort Hays State dominated the first half, outshooting Ouachita Baptist 16-1, with six shots on target. IRVING, Texas&nbsp;–&nbsp;For the 21st time in the 28-year history of the coaches' men's basketball preseason Big 12 poll, Kansas has been selected as the favorite to win the conference as the league announced preseason awards Thursday.&nbsp;

Individually, Kansas&nbsp;graduate center Hunter Dickinson&nbsp;is the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year for the second-consecutive season becoming the first player in conference history to earn the accolade twice. Dickinson, a unanimous preseason all-conference first team selection, is joined on the Preseason All-Big 12 Team by KU teammate Dajuan Harris Jr.,&nbsp;who is on the preseason all-league second team.&nbsp;

Kansas received nine of a possible 15 first-place votes in the poll as coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team. KU amassed 215 points, edging 2024 Big 12 regular-season champion Houston (211) in the poll. Houston had five first-place votes. Iowa State (194), with one first-place vote, was third in the poll with Baylor fourth and Arizona fifth. Arizona garnered one first-place vote in the poll.&nbsp;

Historically, Dickinson marks the 12th Jayhawk to collect the preseason player of the year award. Kansas has had at least one player on the Preseason All-Big 12 First Team in all but two of the 29 seasons the conference has existed, since 1996-97. Dickinson is the 41st Jayhawk to be listed on the Preseason All-Big 12 first team.

Kansas is coming off a&nbsp;23-11 season where it advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 33rd&nbsp;time in the last 34 years, a run that started in 1990. KU returns three starters led by Dickinson, a 2024 Consensus All-America Second Team, All-Big 12 First Team and the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year selection. 🏀 Kansas picked Big 12 preseason favorite, Dickinson named preseason POY

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Kansas State senior transfer&nbsp;Coleman Hawkins&nbsp;has been named the Preseason Big 12 co-Newcomer of the Year by the league coaches, as the Big 12 announced its annual preseason poll and all-conference teams on Thursday.

Hawkins, who earned All-Big Ten honors at Illinois in 2023-24, was selected for the preseason honor alongside Baylor’s&nbsp;Jeremy Roach. Hawkins was also named to the preseason All-Big 12 Second Team by the league coaches, joining Baylor’s&nbsp;Norchad Omier&nbsp;and Roach, Iowa State’s&nbsp;Keshon Gilbert&nbsp;and Kansas’&nbsp;Dajuan Harris.

Hunter Dickinson&nbsp;of preseason favorite Kansas was named the Preseason Player of the Year, while Baylor’s&nbsp;V.J. Edgecombe&nbsp;was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Giancarlo Stanton hit a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning amid a battle of the bullpens, and the New York Yankees beat the Kansas City Royals 3-2 on Wednesday night in Game 3 of their AL Division Series at Kauffman Stadium.

Stanton finished with three hits, drove in two runs and stole a base for the first time in four years for the Yankees, who will turn to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/2024-mlb-playoffs-royals-yankees-55c69e03da0c418a922ad02831ea0610">six-time All-Star pitcher Gerrit Cole on Thursday night</a>&nbsp;with a chance to reach&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/mlb">the American League Championship Series</a>.

The Royals used four relievers before Kris Bubic took over for the eighth. The left-hander struck out Austin Wells before Stanton hit his 3-1 pitch nearly 420 feet to left to give New York the lead.

The Royals tried to answer off Luke Weaver in the bottom half, getting&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/royals-chiefs-kansas-city-patrick-mahomes-bobby-witt-25b56b7e0ed73261a13434168c102551">Bobby Witt Jr.'s first hit of the series</a>&nbsp;and a two-out single by franchise stalwart Salvador Perez. Weaver recovered to get Yuli Gurriel to fly out to end the threat, and he also handled the ninth to earn the save and cap 4 1/3 scoreless innings by the New York bullpen.

The Yankees won despite another frustrating night in the postseason for MVP front-runner Aaron Judge. He went 0 for 4 with a walk, and is now 1 for 11 with only an infield single through three games against the Royals.

It helped that the powerful Yankees drew nine walks Wednesday night, giving them 22 for the series.

It was the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/yankees-royals-new-york-kansas-city-mlb-playoffs-a71e04dca396f35402287621911ad50e">first playoff game at the K in 3,268 days</a>, since the Royals beat the Mets in Game 2 of the 2015 World Series. They won their first title in 30 years a few days later in New York.

The first baseman on that Royals team, Eric Hosmer, was on hand to deliver the first pitch for a crowd that included Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

The Yankees had some good swings against Seth Lugo's dizzying array of nine pitches, but they had nothing to show for it early on.

And in the third, Gleyber Torres hit a ball to the warning track in right, moments after a review confirmed that his would-be RBI blooper down the line had landed foul.

The Yankees broke through in the fourth on Stanton's double — Soto came around from first to score, though he might well have been out had Witt delivered a better relay throw to the plate. And in the fifth, Soto added a bases-loaded sacrifice fly.

The Royals answered with two in the fifth. Kyle Isbel got them on the board with a two-out double to left, and Michael Massey ripped a sinking liner that somehow missed Soto's glove in right for an RBI triple.

Yankees starter Clarke Schmidt was dinged for both runs on four hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings. Lugo went five for Kansas City, allowing two hits and walking four against the team that led the league in free passes this season.

Yankees: Cole (8-5, 3.41 ERA) heads back to the mound Thursday night. He allowed four runs — three earned — over five innings in the opener Saturday night but got no decision in the 6-5 win for New York.

Royals: RHP Michael Wacha (13-8, 3.35 ERA) will face Cole again after pitching just four innings Saturday. He allowed three runs but was long gone by the time the Yankees scored the go-ahead run in the seventh.

⚾ Stanton's homer in the 8th lifts Yankees over Royals in Game 3 of the ALDS

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Athletics will welcome seven new members into the Tiger Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 26, 2024. The inductees going into the Hall of Fame this year include Gary Grubb (Track and Field, 1974-75), Randy Hill (Wrestling, 1975-79), Don Carter (Track &amp; Field, 1985-87), Chris Capettini (Football, 1988-91), Darcie Schmitz (Riordan) (Track and Field, 2009-11), Dominique Jones (Men's Basketball, 2009-11), and Kate Lehman (Bremerman) (Women's Basketball, 2011-2015).

The induction ceremony will take place the morning of Saturday, October 26 inside the Memorial Union on the campus of Fort Hays State University. Registration for the invitation only event begins at 8 AM and the ceremony begins at 9 AM. The new Hall of Fame class will then be recognized publicly at halftime of the Fort Hays State vs. Missouri Southern football game, which begins at 1 p.m.

Gary Grubb - Track and Field (1974-75) (Posthumous) Gary Grubb, native of Tribune, Kansas, was the NAIA national champion in the pole vault for the outdoor season as a junior in 1974. He cleared a height of 15 feet, 6 inches to win the championship. He was the national runner-up the same year at the NAIA Indoor Championships. Grubb was the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference champion during the 1974 outdoor season. He qualified for the NAIA Indoor and Outdoor Championships in 1975 as well, placing eighth at the outdoor championships.

Randy Hill - Wrestling (1975-79) Randy Hill, native of Wamego, Kansas, wrestled for three years at Fort Hays State between 1975-1979. He was an All-America performer in 1979 as a senior, finishing as the national runner-up at 167 pounds with a 13-2-1 record overall. His effort helped the team to a 7th-place finish nationally that season, which tied the program's highest team finish at nationals at that point. During his junior year of 1976-77, Hill became the first FHSU wrestler in history to complete an undefeated regular season, going 21-0 before competing at the national championship site where he went 3-2 to finish 24-2 overall. Both of his losses at nationals that year were to two-time national champions. Hill was a four-time national qualifier overall, once at Pratt Community College in the junior college ranks before qualifying three times at FHSU. He finished with an overall record of 44-11-2 (.789) at FHSU. At the end of his career in 1979, Hill owned the FHSU career records for points, near falls, and escapes.

Don Carter - Track &amp; Field (1985-87) Don Carter, native of Emporia, Kansas, was a five-time NAIA All-America performer for the Tigers and set six school records in jumping events, competing from 1985 to 1987. As a sophomore in 1985, he placed second nationally in both the outdoor triple jump and high jump. He set the school triple jump record that year at 51-feet, 0.75-inches and also the high jump record at 7-feet, 0.5-inches. His triple jump record still stands today as no Tiger during the NCAA Division II era has ever gone past 50 feet. During the 1986 indoor season, Carter was District 10 champion in both the triple jump and high jump and went on to claim All-America honors at the NAIA national meet, finishing fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the high jump. Carter nabbed his final All-America honor during the indoor season of 1987 with a fourth-place finish in the high jump. Carter still owns three school records at FHSU, standing for nearly for 40 years now, which includes outdoor triple jump (51'0.75" - 1985), indoor high jump (7'1" - 1985), and indoor triple jump (49'9.5" - 1986). He and Steve Broxterman (Tiger Sports Hall of Fame member) are the only Tigers to eclipse the 7-foot high jump barrier in the program's NAIA history, and it was only eclipsed once outdoors in the NCAA Division II era by Matt Bixenman. At the end of his career, Carter owned all six FHSU records for both indoor and outdoor triple jump (I - 49'9.5" O - 51'0.75"), long jump (I - 23'9", O - 24'6.75"), and high jump (I - 7'1", O - 7'1"). Carter and John Mason still own the most individual FHSU records among athletes that competed in the program's NAIA era, both with three, as Carter still holds the standard for indoor triple jump and high jump, and outdoor triple jump.

Chris Capettini - Football (1988-91) Chris Capettini, native of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, played football at Fort Hays State from 1988-91. Capettini was a two-time NAIA All-America selection at tight end, used often as a key blocker in the running game for FHSU his last two seasons. Capetinni was a defensive tackle the first two years of his career at FHSU before transitioning to tight end under new head coach Bob Cortese in 1990. Capetinni helped the Tigers to their only NAIA playoff appearance in 1990 when they fell to Central State (Ohio) in the first round. He was a part of a team that went from 3-6-1 his freshman year and 3-7 his sophomore year, to 8-4 his junior year and 8-3 his senior year. The 1990 and 1991 teams tied the school record for wins in a season. In 1991, he helped block for a team that set a school record for rushing yards in a season with 2,996, a record that stood for 24 years. After recording 21 tackles as a freshman and 15 tackles as a sophomore on the defensive side of the ball, Capettini produced 8 receptions for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns in 1990 and 9 receptions for 106 yards and one touchdown in 1991 to go with his strong blocking ability.

Darcie Schmitz - Track and Field (2009-2011) Darcie Schmitz, native of Baileyville, Kansas, was a seven-time All-America (4 outdoor, 3 indoor) performer in track and field in just two years of eligibility at Fort Hays State. She competed outdoors in 2009 and 2011, while competing indoors in 2010 and 2011. She was the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor National Champion in the long jump and was national runner-up in the triple jump that same season. Schmitz owns both the indoor and outdoor records in long jump and triple jump at FHSU. Her indoor long jump record of 19 feet, 9.5 inches won her the indoor national title in 2010. Her best outdoor long jump mark was 19 feet, 11 inches set at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships when she finished 4th. She set the FHSU triple jump record for both outdoor and indoor at 41 feet, 1 inch and the outdoor record set a new MIAA Outdoor Championship meet record in 2011. She was the MIAA Outdoor Champion in both the long jump and triple jump in 2011 and was a 7-time All-MIAA performer overall (top-3 finisher). Schmitz was also a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team selection, earning the honors in 2010 and 2011. She transferred to FHSU from Cloud County Community College, where she was an NJCAA All-America performer and junior college Academic All-America selection.

Dominique Jones - Men's Basketball (2009-11) Dominique Jones, native of Harlem, N.Y., played two seasons at Fort Hays State from 2009-2011, serving at the team's point guard. Jones was a State Farm/NABC All-America First Team and Division II Bulletin All-America selection in 2011, leading a nationally ranked Tiger team at 17.9 points and 6.3 assists per game. That season, he scored 592 points and dished out 207 assists, helping the Tigers to a record of 26-7 overall, while also earning All-MIAA First Team honors and the MIAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Award when he helped the Tigers to an MIAA Tournament Championship. Jones helped the Tigers to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in both 2010 and 2011 as the Tigers posted an overall record of 49-14 over the two years. A two-time All-MIAA First Team selection, Jones nearly scored 1,000 points in his two years at FHSU with 983, leading the Tigers in scoring each year. His 5.1 assists per game average ranks fifth in program history and his 324 assists overall ranks seventh in program history. Following his time at Fort Hays State, Jones eventually became a superstar professionally on the FIBA 3-on-3 World Tour for several years and in 2019 was named the FIBA 3x3 World Tour MVP. For a good length of time Jones was the No. 1 ranked 3x3 World Tour player in the United States. Jones also enjoyed a brief stint with the Harlem Globetrotters in the summer of 2015. As one of the top 3x3 players in the United States, Jones earned his way to being a member of Team USA and helped lead the United States to a gold medal in the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. Jones was also a member of the U.S. Olympic Qualifying Team in 2020.

Kate Lehman - Women's Basketball (2011-15) Kate Lehman, native of Newton, Kansas, played four seasons at Fort Hays State from 2011-2015. Lehman was the MIAA Player of the Year in her senior year of 2014-15, while also earning BennettRank.com National Player of the Year honors. She was an All-America selection in both 2014 and 2015, earning the distinction both years from the WBCA and Division II Bulletin, while also earning the honor once from Dakronics and BennettRank.com. Lehman was a four-time All-MIAA selection, earning first-team honors each of her last three seasons, and was twice an MIAA All-Tournament Team selection (2013, 2015). She was a Daktronics All-Central Region selection in each of her final three seasons at FHSU (2013, 2014, 2015). Lehman was named to the MIAA All-Defensive Team all four years as a Tiger and was the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Lehman was also tremendous in the classroom as she earned CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honors in 2015. Lehman put together the most decorated career by a Tiger in the program's NCAA Division II history as far as awards are concerned. She is FHSU's all-time leading rebounder at 1,109 for her career, and ranks second on the career scoring list with 1,917 points. She is the only player in program history to reach the 1,000 mark in both points and rebounds. Lehman shattered the program's all-time blocked shots record with 515, which is 349 more than the next player on the list. She also owns the school record for free-throws made (523). Lehman's blocked shot average of 5.3 per game in 2013-14 stands as an NCAA Division II record for players in their junior year, while it also set an MIAA single-season record. Lehman's 515 career blocked shots ranks second-most in NCAA Division II history, bested only by LaKisha Phifer of St. Paul's, and her 4.3 blocks per game career average ranks fourth-best in NCAA Division II history. Her 55 career double-doubles ranks 17th in NCAA Division II history and her three triple-doubles ranks fourth in NCAA Division II history. She led NCAA Division II in blocked shots per game as both a sophomore at 4.2 per game and as a junior at 5.3 per game.&nbsp;&nbsp;

At the end of his career in 1979, Hill owned the FHSU career records for points, near falls, and escapes.Don Carter - Track &amp; Field (1985-87) Don Carter, native of Emporia, Kansas, was a five-time NAIA All-America performer for the Tigers and set six school records in jumping events, competing from 1985 to 1987. As a sophomore in 1985, he placed second nationally in both the outdoor triple jump and high jump. He set the school triple jump record that year at 51-feet, 0.75-inches and also the high jump record at 7-feet, 0.5-inches. His triple jump record still stands today as no Tiger during the NCAA Division II era has ever gone past 50 feet. During the 1986 indoor season, Carter was District 10 champion in both the triple jump and high jump and went on to claim All-America honors at the NAIA national meet, finishing fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the high jump. Carter nabbed his final All-America honor during the indoor season of 1987 with a fourth-place finish in the high jump. Carter still owns three school records at FHSU, standing for nearly for 40 years now, which includes outdoor triple jump (51'0.75" - 1985), indoor high jump (7'1" - 1985), and indoor triple jump (49'9.5" - 1986). He and Steve Broxterman (Tiger Sports Hall of Fame member) are the only Tigers to eclipse the 7-foot high jump barrier in the program's NAIA history, and it was only eclipsed once outdoors in the NCAA Division II era by Matt Bixenman. At the end of his career, Carter owned all six FHSU records for both indoor and outdoor triple jump (I - 49'9.5" O - 51'0.75"), long jump (I - 23'9", O - 24'6.75"), and high jump (I - 7'1", O - 7'1"). Carter and John Mason still own the most individual FHSU records among athletes that competed in the program's NAIA era, both with three, as Carter still holds the standard for indoor triple jump and high jump, and outdoor triple jump.Chris Capettini - Football (1988-91) Chris Capettini, native of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, played football at Fort Hays State from 1988-91. Capettini was a two-time NAIA All-America selection at tight end, used often as a key blocker in the running game for FHSU his last two seasons. Capetinni was a defensive tackle the first two years of his career at FHSU before transitioning to tight end under new head coach Bob Cortese in 1990. Capetinni helped the Tigers to their only NAIA playoff appearance in 1990 when they fell to Central State (Ohio) in the first round. He was a part of a team that went from 3-6-1 his freshman year and 3-7 his sophomore year, to 8-4 his junior year and 8-3 his senior year. The 1990 and 1991 teams tied the school record for wins in a season. In 1991, he helped block for a team that set a school record for rushing yards in a season with 2,996, a record that stood for 24 years. After recording 21 tackles as a freshman and 15 tackles as a sophomore on the defensive side of the ball, Capettini produced 8 receptions for 95 yards and 2 touchdowns in 1990 and 9 receptions for 106 yards and one touchdown in 1991 to go with his strong blocking ability.Darcie Schmitz - Track and Field (2009-2011) Darcie Schmitz, native of Baileyville, Kansas, was a seven-time All-America (4 outdoor, 3 indoor) performer in track and field in just two years of eligibility at Fort Hays State. She competed outdoors in 2009 and 2011, while competing indoors in 2010 and 2011. She was the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor National Champion in the long jump and was national runner-up in the triple jump that same season. Schmitz owns both the indoor and outdoor records in long jump and triple jump at FHSU. Her indoor long jump record of 19 feet, 9.5 inches won her the indoor national title in 2010. Her best outdoor long jump mark was 19 feet, 11 inches set at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships when she finished 4th. She set the FHSU triple jump record for both outdoor and indoor at 41 feet, 1 inch and the outdoor record set a new MIAA Outdoor Championship meet record in 2011. She was the MIAA Outdoor Champion in both the long jump and triple jump in 2011 and was a 7-time All-MIAA performer overall (top-3 finisher). Schmitz was also a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team selection, earning the honors in 2010 and 2011. She transferred to FHSU from Cloud County Community College, where she was an NJCAA All-America performer and junior college Academic All-America selection.Dominique Jones - Men's Basketball (2009-11) Dominique Jones, native of Harlem, N.Y., played two seasons at Fort Hays State from 2009-2011, serving at the team's point guard. Jones was a State Farm/NABC All-America First Team and Division II Bulletin All-America selection in 2011, leading a nationally ranked Tiger team at 17.9 points and 6.3 assists per game. That season, he scored 592 points and dished out 207 assists, helping the Tigers to a record of 26-7 overall, while also earning All-MIAA First Team honors and the MIAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player Award when he helped the Tigers to an MIAA Tournament Championship. Jones helped the Tigers to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in both 2010 and 2011 as the Tigers posted an overall record of 49-14 over the two years. A two-time All-MIAA First Team selection, Jones nearly scored 1,000 points in his two years at FHSU with 983, leading the Tigers in scoring each year. His 5.1 assists per game average ranks fifth in program history and his 324 assists overall ranks seventh in program history. Following his time at Fort Hays State, Jones eventually became a superstar professionally on the FIBA 3-on-3 World Tour for several years and in 2019 was named the FIBA 3x3 World Tour MVP. For a good length of time Jones was the No. 1 ranked 3x3 World Tour player in the United States. Jones also enjoyed a brief stint with the Harlem Globetrotters in the summer of 2015. As one of the top 3x3 players in the United States, Jones earned his way to being a member of Team USA and helped lead the United States to a gold medal in the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru. Jones was also a member of the U.S. Olympic Qualifying Team in 2020.Kate Lehman - Women's Basketball (2011-15) Kate Lehman, native of Newton, Kansas, played four seasons at Fort Hays State from 2011-2015. Lehman was the MIAA Player of the Year in her senior year of 2014-15, while also earning BennettRank.com National Player of the Year honors. She was an All-America selection in both 2014 and 2015, earning the distinction both years from the WBCA and Division II Bulletin, while also earning the honor once from Dakronics and BennettRank.com. Lehman was a four-time All-MIAA selection, earning first-team honors each of her last three seasons, and was twice an MIAA All-Tournament Team selection (2013, 2015). She was a Daktronics All-Central Region selection in each of her final three seasons at FHSU (2013, 2014, 2015). Lehman was named to the MIAA All-Defensive Team all four years as a Tiger and was the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year in 2013, 2014, and 2015. Lehman was also tremendous in the classroom as she earned CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team honors in 2015. Lehman put together the most decorated career by a Tiger in the program's NCAA Division II history as far as awards are concerned. She is FHSU's all-time leading rebounder at 1,109 for her career, and ranks second on the career scoring list with 1,917 points. She is the only player in program history to reach the 1,000 mark in both points and rebounds. Lehman shattered the program's all-time blocked shots record with 515, which is 349 more than the next player on the list. She also owns the school record for free-throws made (523). Lehman's blocked shot average of 5.3 per game in 2013-14 stands as an NCAA Division II record for players in their junior year, while it also set an MIAA single-season record. Lehman's 515 career blocked shots ranks second-most in NCAA Division II history, bested only by LaKisha Phifer of St. Paul's, and her 4.3 blocks per game career average ranks fourth-best in NCAA Division II history. Her 55 career double-doubles ranks 17th in NCAA Division II history and her three triple-doubles ranks fourth in NCAA Division II history. She led NCAA Division II in blocked shots per game as both a sophomore at 4.2 per game and as a junior at 5.3 per game.&nbsp;&nbsp;
