Juneteenth Jam, an educational event, will take place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, June 19 at the Hays Municipal Park (located south of the Hays Aquatic Park).
It will feature speakers discussing the importance of June 19, the 13th amendment, Black Wall Street, and personal accounts of battling discrimination and injustice.
The event is set to move forward as planned, but organizers are watching the weather.
This free public event is open to all ages. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs.
A voter registration table will be set up, and volunteers will be available to assist with registration. Petitions and educational materials will also be available.
The organizers of the event request that individuals wear face masks and practice physical distancing to protect themselves and others from the spread of COVID-19. Disposable masks and hand sanitizer will be available.
Speakers will include: Raeanna Peacock, Vanessa Dinkel, Danzel Major, Charles Law, Nick Eiden, Joshua Allen, Ray Morris, Courtney Moye, and special guests the Second Baptist Church Dancers from Russell.
