Following a recent water main break at the intersection of Sixth and Main, the City of Hays has finalized a repair plan and will begin work on Thursday, Aug. 7.
Repairs to the damaged infrastructure and the roadway are expected to take up to two weeks.
During the repair period, the intersection of Sixth and Main will be closed.
Main Street will be closed near the intersection, and the 100 block of West Sixth Street will also be inaccessible to through traffic.
Traffic signs will be placed to alert motorists of the closures and direct them to alternate routes.
"We appreciate the community's patience as we work to repair the damage," said Director of Water Resources Jeff Crispin. "Our crews will be working diligently to restore the infrastructure and the roadway as quickly and safely as possible."
The project will address the damage to both the underground infrastructure and the street surface caused by the break.
The City of Hays reminds all residents and visitors to exercise caution when traveling near the construction zone and to follow all posted detour signs. For updates follow the City of Hays on Facebook, Instagram, X, Bluesky, Nextdoor, TikTok and LinkedIn, or visit HaysUSA.com.
