Oral disease affects 3.9 billion people worldwide, with untreated tooth decay affecting almost half of the world’s population.  Oral-Systemic Health Week aims to educate individuals about gum and periodontal disease and how it can have a significant impact on the rest of their bodies.  Dentists and Hygienists are often the first to see signs of systemic diseases because the mouth is a good indicator of your overall health.  Taking good care of your oral health at home is one way to help prevent heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, adverse pregnancy outcomes, and other diseases.  Flossing every day, eating a healthy diet, limiting sugar and soda, scheduling regular exams and oral cancer screenings are also ways to keep a healthy mouth.
