KDHE: 221 new COVID cases in Ellis Co. since Wednesday

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment on Monday reported 221 new COVID-19 cases in Ellis County had been identified since Wednesday.

It was the most new cases reported in a single regular reporting period since the pandemic began, according to Hays Post archives. KDHE updates its case count each Monday, Wednesday and Friday except on holidays.

There have been 1,212 new coronavirus cases reported in Ellis County in January. 

As of Friday morning, there were 28 COVID-19 inpatients at HaysMed, including 19 active cases and nine recovering cases.

The KDHE reported on Wednesday that 51 percent of eligible Ellis County residents (age 5 and older) are fully vaccinated, noting the vaccination rate for the eligible Kansas population (5 and older) is approximately 62 percent.

Since reporting began, there have been 6,386 cases of COVID-19 identified in Ellis County, including 78 coronavirus-related deaths.
