It is a commitment that stuck since the summer before Dylan Dreiling's freshman year at Hays High. The now-senior gave an oral commitment to Tennessee to play baseball for the Volunteers in the summer of 2018. Thursday at Hays High School, he made it official with ink to paper.
Originally recruited as a pitcher, Dreiling will be at the plate and in the outfield when he reaches the diamond in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Volunteers were nationally ranked this past season and reached the College Baseball World Series.
The left-handed pitcher and hitter for the Indians has started since his first game as a freshman. Playing for his grandfather Frank Leo during that 2019 season, Dreiling batted .323 in 65 at-bats, walking 15 times and striking out on just three occasions. He also clubbed four home runs, including a grand slam in the opening round of regional postseason play.
Dylan Dreiling
Like everybody, Dreiling lost his 2020 season to COVID-19 shutdown.
