Due to recent law changes Ellis County Clerk Bobbi Dreiling would like to inform the public per K.S.A. 25-305, a person who wishes to run as a write-in candidate for national, state, county or first class city office, must file an affidavit of write-in candidacy in order to have those votes tabulated.

A first Class City is a city with a population of more than 15,000 (all Ellis County city races are exempt from this statute).

The affidavit for national and state candidates must be filed with the Secretary of State. The affidavit for county and first class city candidates must be filed with the county election officer.

The deadline to file the affidavits is the fourth Monday before Election Day—Monday, Oct. 14 for the General Election.

Write-in candidates for township office are not required to file an affidavit. All votes will be counted in those races.

The Affidavit for Write-In Candidacy is available through the Kansas Secretary of State's Office or the County Clerk's Office.

If you have any questions, contact the Ellis County County Clerk’s office at 785-628-9410.
