Snow continued falling in Hays at 4:30 a.m. today, with an estimated six inches accumulation overnight.
It's the first significant snowfall of the year, with five to seven inches of the white stuff in the forecast from the National Weather Service in Dodge City.
A winter storm warning is in effect until noon today.
Emergency snow routes were plowed earlier and streets in Hays are snowpacked.
Most area schools canceled classes today, including USD 489 and Thomas More Prep-Marian in Hays.

Sunshine and warmer temperatures are expected to return starting Friday.
