A public hearing for a height and square footage variance for a pole sign for the planned 24/7 Travel Store, 1990 W. 55th St., will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, April 20 by the Hays Area Board of Zoning Appeals.

Developer Triplett, Inc., Salina, is requesting height and square footage variances for the sign to make it more visible to traffic on Interstate 70. The store is to be built just north of Exit 157.

The applicant is requesting a 37 feet height variance for the sign, an increase from the allowable maximum of 48 feet to 85 feet, and a 624 square foot variance for the sign area, an increase from the allowable maximum of 200 square feet to 824 square feet.

City staff is recommending approval of the variance requests.

Also on the agenda is discussion of a five-foot height variance request by Nathan and Sara Meder for a detached garage at 3201 Tam O'Shanter Drive.

The variance for the proposed garage would increase the allowable height from 18-foot maximum to 23 feet. The structure would connect to an existing smaller detached garage and serve as a multi-purpose space.

A public hearing to consider the variance will be set for May 18.
