The city of Hays Fire Department encourages all residents to practice safety and follow guidelines while enjoying fireworks during Independence Day celebrations:
- Fireworks can be legally discharged from July 2 through July 4, between 10 AM and 11 PM.
- Fireworks should only be used outdoors and at safe distances:At least 100 feet from hospitals, nursing homes, and fireworks stands.At least 50 feet from fuel pumps and gas stations.

- The following fireworks are strictly prohibited:Bottle rocketsSkyrockets mounted on sticks or wiresUntethered sky lanterns

- Residents should have appropriate safety equipment readily available, including water hoses, buckets, or fire extinguishers.
- Use fireworks responsibly; adults must supervise children under 12.
- Mixing alcohol and fireworks is dangerous—appoint a designated sober individual to handle fireworks.
