Lions club members from the state of Kansas will welcome International President Brian Sheehan and Lion Lori of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service club organization, this weekend in Hays.
I.P. Sheehan, from Minnesota, will address the Lions during their annual state convention Friday and Saturday.
“We’re happy to welcome the Sheehans to our community,” said District Governor Tom Baumann. “We look forward to sharing our impact in the community and the lives we’ve touched through service. ”
This is the first time in 20 years that a Lions state convention has been held west of Salina and an estimated 200 Lions from Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska will be attending.
The Kansas Lions Band is gathering at Fort Hays State University this week and will be performing a jazz concert Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. and an entire band concert on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. Both events will be held at the Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center at FHSU. There will be close to 200 students from across the state of Kansas performing. The public is welcome to attend.
Lions in Kansas conduct a variety of projects and events, including children’s sight screenings, delivering food and packages to families in need, donating time and items to families who have children fighting cancer, diabetes awareness, helping rebuild communities hit with tornados, floods and fires, and performing projects as needed for their communities and others. Where there is a need, there is a Lion.
“Our clubs give members an opportunity to advance worthy causes, serve with friends, and become leaders in the community. It means a lot to our Lions, but it means so much more to the people we serve,” said Council Chair Randy St. Aubyn.
The Hays Lions Club has 49 members and meets on every Tuesday at noon at The Press. Lions are caring men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to meet those needs.
