Science Café presents: 'Polar Vortex – Utility Reliability, Economic Implications'

The Science Cafe will present "Polar Vortex — Utility Reliability and Economic Implications at 7 p.m. today at the The Venue at Thirsty’s, 2704 Vine St., Hays.

Sunflower Electric Power Corporation and Midwest Energy CEOs and a Fort Hays State University climate expert will discuss factors contributing to the February 2021 utility weather emergency and technical and policy implications as the U.S. grapples with responses to climate change.

Presenters will be Todd Moore, associate professor and chairman of the Geosciences Department at FHSU, Pat Parke, chief executive officer of Midwest Energy, and Stuart Lowry, president and CEO, Sunflower Electric Power Corporation.

The event is free and open to the public and sponsored by the Science and Mathematics Education Institute.
