The distinctive smell of liver and onions will once again permeate the area around 11th and Fort Streets on Thursday, Oct. 2. Hays First Baptist Church will be having its free “4th Annual Liver & Onions Drive Thru” from 5 to 7 p.m.—or until the food runs on.
Once again the menu will consist of beef liver, grilled onions, mashed potatoes, gravy, and a homemade roll—all prepared by the members of the Men’s Ministry at the church.
Pastor G. Chris Prater said, “We will cook 60 pounds of liver. Those 60 pounds will make 120 meals.” He said the church does not place a limit on how many meals a vehicle may receive.
There are no income requirements to receive the free meal.
“We hold this event to simply love on our community, to remind them that, ‘Hey, we are still here, and we care,’” Prater said. “As the pastor of this church, I love the fact that this is an ‘outside of the box’ event.”
