The Women’s Ministry at North Oak Community Church, 3000 Oak St., will host its annual fall conference for women, with a theme this year of “Transformed.”
The event will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, and from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Speaking will be Lanette McCune of Plainville.
McCune graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1995 with degrees in Communication and Elementary Education. She has spent the last 30 years serving in women’s ministry and said, “It is a joy and privilege to encourage and edify the Body of Christ.”
McCune and her husband, Joe, have four children, three sons-in-law, and 11 grandchildren. She said they enjoy caring for their dog, Tug, and their “small, spoiled herd of cattle.”
The cost of the conference is $30, which includes snacks and lunch on Saturday. Pre-registration is requested by Sunday, Oct. 11, at https://www.northoak.net/ministries/pages/women. Walk-up registration will be accepted the day of the conference, said Kara Olmstead, one of the event’s organizers.
Olmstead said of McCune, “Lanette loves her family, people, nature, and life—but most of all, she loves Jesus and longs for everyone to know Him personally. With a contagious love for God’s Word and a heart for encouraging others, Lanette is passionate about helping women grow in their faith through Bible study, prayer, and a genuine relationship with Jesus.”
The theme verse for the conference is Romans 12:1-2a: "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind."
Olmstead said the conference organizers hope this will be a time “for women to step away from the busyness of daily life, enjoy fellowship with one another, and draw closer to Christ through the truth of God’s Word.
“Each year we chose a theme we hope will encourage, refresh and bless every woman who attends, whether she is already walking closely with Jesus, is seeking to know Him more, or simply comes looking for an enjoyable day with other women,” Olmstead said.
