COLBY — The Colby Community College livestock judging team is hosting the first annual CCC Classic Spring Livestock Show on May 15 at the Thomas County Fairgrounds in Colby.
The show starts at 9 a.m. with swine, followed by cattle and then sheep and goats. The judge is Bobby Strecker of Holyoke, Colo. Prizes include a $500 scholarship to CCC for the champion senior showman in each species and a $250 scholarship to CCC for the reserve champion senior showman in each species. The champion and reserve champion showmen in the intermediate and junior divisions will get a cash payback. The grand champion overall in each species (market and breeding) will be awarded a belt buckle and banner. The reserve champion overall in each species (market and banner) will be awarded a cooler and banner.
"The show is a great way for youth livestock exhibitors to participate in a show and gain experience for themselves and their livestock," said CCC Livestock Judging Coach Marty Fear. "The show also gives the CCC judging students some visibility in the community and a way to give back to the show industry they are involved in."
Entries can be submitted online. Registrations before May 13 receive a discounted rate. Fees are $30 for each calf, $20 for each swine, sheep, and goat, and $10 for showmanship. An additional $5 is added to each entry after May 13 or on show day.
