COLBY — The "Sounds of Freedom," a 17-member music performance team within the 35th Infantry Division Band of the Kansas Army National Guard will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, in Colby's Fike Park. The show includes patriotic selections, marches, and other popular music.
Under the command of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Jim Walker, the band is comprised of citizen-soldiers who contribute skills, talents, and experiences to the unit and to the Kansas Army National Guard. Like all Guard units, the band meets one weekend a month and 15 days during the summer to rehearse and fulfill military training requirements.
As musical ambassadors, the 35th Infantry Division Band represents the governor at civilian and military functions throughout Kansas, performing at parades, concerts, and political inaugurations. In addition to Colby, the summer concert tour includes Pratt, Dodge City, Jetmore, Hutchinson, Hoisington, Larned, Logan, Greensburg, Fort Hays State University, Wakeeney, Stockton, Great Bend and Wichita.
There is no admission charge. Guests are invited to take a lawn chair or blanket.
