Larks season opener postponed after player tests positive for COVID

The Hays Larks were roughly 36 hours away from the start of their season when they found out Opening Night was going to be delayed, or possibly canceled altogether.

On his way home from their Sunday workout at Larks Park, manager Frank Leo was notified one of his players had tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the postponement of Monday’s season opener against the Colorado Springs Outlaws.

Under current guidelines the player, as well as all who have had close contact with him, will go into a 14-day quarantine.

Leo says the player has had limited contact with the rest of the team but was at the team meeting and at picture day late last week.

Leo has contacted Ellis County Health Administrator Jason Kennedy who plans to contact state health officials Monday morning for further guidance as to whether or not the season can continue.

This was going to be the Larks first season in the Rocky Mountain Baseball League, which already had a couple of members decide to not field teams this summer due to the coronavirus outbreak.
