Hays reached 112 degrees Sunday, setting a new record high for the city and breaking a record that had stood for 90 years. The previous record of 111 degrees was set in 1936.

The record-setting heat comes as Hays continues through a stretch of triple-digit temperatures. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Hays from noon to 8 p.m. Monday, with temperatures expected to reach around 104 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to remain above 100 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday, with forecast highs of 106 and 104 degrees, respectively, before dropping into the 90s on Thursday.

Residents are encouraged to limit prolonged outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in air conditioning or in the shade.
