More than 2 inches of much-needed rain falls in Hays

With all but the southern edge of Ellis County in a moderate drought, the rain was a welcome sight in Hays Saturday.

According to official records at the K-State Agricultural Research Center, 2.46 inches of rain was measured in Hays by 8 a.m. Sunday.

So far in March, 2.97 inches of moisture has been recorded, more than twice the average total for March, which is 1.25 inches. 

Hays is also more than an inch ahead of the average amount of moisture by the end of March, with 3.66 inches. The 152-year cumulative average by March 31 is 2.46 inches.

The weather forecast calls for more rain through Tuesday. 

A Flash Flood Watch issued by the National Weather Service in Dodge City remains in effect until 1 p.m. Sunday.
