The Hays High Indians are on the road Friday night with a shot at the Western Athletic Conference title as they take on the Liberal Redskins.
The Indians are coming off win over Dodge City, their second straight victory, to improve to 4-2 and they are 2-1 in the WAC.
Liberal enters the contest a perfect 6-0 and they are 3-0 in the WAC after a win over Great Bend last week.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Lewis Field in Hays. Live coverage includes The Hays High Sports Network and radio.
This is the 47th meeting between Hays and Liberal. Liberal leads the series 27-19 despite the Indians wining 13 of the last 14 games and each of the last six. Prior to the 2009 season Liberal dominated the series winning 26 of 32 games.
The two played a single game in 1973 with Hays winning 34-30. Liberal won each game played from 1977 through 1980 before a two-year break was taken. The two started playing every year in 1983. The Indians only wins from that 1983 season through 2008 came in 1986 and 1987β¦1990β¦2001β¦and 2006. In the Indians run of winning 13 of 14 beginning in 2009 the games have been solidly in favor of Hays. Only three of the 13 wins by Hays have been by one score.
The 47th game in the series puts it three behind the 50 plays against TMP/St. Joes, a series that has not been played since 1986. Hays owns a 30-19-1 advantage over the Monarchs.
