There are many different reasons that producers look at adding different crops to their rotation. Weed control issues and the ability to spray certain chemicals to help with weeds is one reason. Also, some may be looking for a product that may be more profitable in the coming years. Some just want to try something new in their rotation to see if it fits their production model better than what they are currently doing. Whatever the reason, it’s a good idea to research the new possibilities before venturing out into the unknown.
On August 26th at 5:30 pm, KSRE Cottonwood District and Pawnee County will be hosting our regular woman’s group to discuss Alternative crops. Now, just because it originally was formed as a group of women that does not mean than men are not welcome. Anyone who has an interest is encouraged to attend. This program’s topic is going to be Alternative Crops. Lucas Hagg, Northwest area agronomist will be on our zoom to discuss the different crops you can grow instead of your normal rotation. Lucas will cover canola, cotton, sunflowers, hemp, dry beans, and forages in addition to any questions that you may have.
