It has become apparent in the past months that FHSU is facing a budget crisis.
The community of Hays should expect a transparent and open discussion of decisions to drop an athletic program, diminish a degree program, close Museum of the High Plains and world-renowned Sternberg Museum, or any of the university departments not yet mentioned. It was Martin Allen and a group of dedicated and persistent Hays city community leaders who made FHSU happen in 1902.
It could happen without input from the Hays community.
I urge anyone who values what Sternberg Museum brings to our community, has visited Sternberg, whose kids have participated in summer camps and programs, or have taken out-of-town visitors for a tour, to let the university know your concerns through a personal visit, phone call, text, and email.
