The Hays USD 489 school board will discuss the closure and possible sale of the Rockwell Administration Center at its meeting at 6:30 tonight at the administrative center.
The last of the bond-funded projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of this summer. This includes the renovation of the former middle school into a four-section elementary school and renovations at O'Loughlin Elementary School.
Superintendent Ron Wilson will update the board on those two construction projects at tonight's meeting.
Wilson Elementary School closed as an elementary school at the end of the spring semester. The Wilson students will transfer to the new Felten Elementary School (the renovated middle school) in the fall.
The original bond plans called for the closure and sale of Rockwell, with the administrative offices being relocated to the former Wilson school building.
The district also will further discuss the possible sale of land adjacent to the former Hays Middle School. The board received four bids in March. All four developers plan to build housing on the property if they are awarded the bid.
However, all of the bids were well below the initial appraisal for the property.
In other business, the board will consider:
• Recommended policy changes from the Kansas Association of School Boards
• A revision to the classified staff handbook
• A preventative maintenance contract with Glassman Corporation for HVAC maintenance.
