On Tuesday night, Hays USD 489 received a report on the progress of the bond-funded renovations at O'Loughlin Elementary School and Felten Elementary School (formerly Hays Middle School).
Both projects are scheduled to be completed in August.

O'Loughlin
Two additions are being added to O'Loughlin.
The north addition will include classrooms and a storm shelter.
The south addition includes a new entrance, cafeteria and art room.
Last week at O'Loughlin, ceiling tiles were installed, a final coat of paint was done on the north addition, countertops and flooring were installed, and lighting was turned on.

This week, electrical work is being done along with more painting, doors are being installed, concrete for sidewalks are being poured, more flooring work will be done and plumbing work.
The contractors are estimating they will be able to have a walk through of the new additions by the week of May 25.

Summer work will begin at O'Loughlin on Wednesday. O'Loughlin is only releasing for the summer today to allow workers to start on renovations on the older section of the school.
This will include $1 million for sewer replacement.

Felten
Work is ongoing at Felten Elementary School.
Last week demolition continued at the school, some areas were framed, walls were painted in areas that were not affected by plumbing upgrades, and concrete was laid in areas where plumbing work had been done.
Next week, site grading will be done, drywall and ceiling grids will be hung, framing and painting will be done, and more demolition will be completed.

Wilson Elementary School will be closed at the end of the school year as an elementary school.
Wilson students will be moved to Felten.
The district hopes eventually to remodel Wilson for use as an administrative center, and close Rockwell and possibly sell the property.
