ELLSWORTH – Kansas State University Extension specialists and watershed partners will host two field days focused on the benefits of cover crops, nutrient management, grazing integration and water quality protection for agricultural producers.
The free events will provide information on using cover crops during seasonal drought conditions and offer producer perspectives on incorporating cover crops into farming operations. Presentations and field tours will highlight nutrient management strategies, including grid sampling and variable-rate application, as well as approaches for integrating livestock grazing into cover crop systems.
The first field day will be held Sept. 9 in Ellsworth County, with registration beginning at 5 p.m. at the Conservation District Office, 402 W. 15th St., Ellsworth. The tour will depart at 5:30 p.m.
The second field day will be held Thu., Sept. 10 in Ellis County, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. at the K-State Agricultural Research Center, 1232 240th Ave., Hays. The tour will depart at 8:30 a.m.
“These field days are a chance for producers to hear directly from researchers and producers who are putting these practices to work,” said Stacie Minson, K-State Extension watershed specialist. “We’re demonstrating how cover crops can support soil health, livestock operations and water quality goals even during seasonal drought.”
