The temperature will jump as the week progresses, with the mercury expected to top out in the mid-80s Tuesday through Thursday.

The warmer weather, accompanied by strong winds and persistent dry conditions, will also increase the risk of wildfires across western Kansas, the National Weather Service in Dodge City reported.

Winds Tuesday through Thursday will be sustained at 20 to 35 mph, with gusts of up to 45 mph possible.

Friday will see a cooling trend begin, with a high in the mid-70s expected. By the weekend, daytime highs will be in the upper-50s to mid-60s.

After a half-inch of rain fell in Hays on Easter Sunday, the NWS is predicting no chance for additional precipitation in the long-range forecast.
