KANSAS CITY—Law enforcement investigating two deaths at a home northeast of Kansas City have identified the victims as 33-year-old Dare M. Kinney and 31-year-old Chad D. Wooten, according to a statement from police.

Just after 8:30p.m. March 10, Excelsior Springs police received a 911 call requesting a welfare check for a home in the 200 Block of Woods Avenue, according to media release.&nbsp; A family member of the residents requested the check.

First responders found the residence was secure and a family member then asked officers to force entry into the home to check on the residents. Police found the two men deceased.

Police have not released a possible cause of death but indicated the victims died of unnatural causes.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The strikes targeted headquarters positions and drone sites where militants the Pentagon identified as “key leaders” for the Houthis’ drone program were located, Grynkewich told reporters Monday.

During the attacks, the Houthis claimed to fire one-way attack drones and ballistic missiles in response.

At a news briefing, both Grynkewich and Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said the responses “didn’t come anywhere near” U.S. assets in the region, including the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman.

U.S. forces continue strikes against Iran-backed terrorists

ATCHISON COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a Kansas man for alleged sex crimes.

On March 9th police began an investigation that focused on crimes committed against a 32-year-old woman that occurred at the Walmart store at 1920 U.S.73.in Atchison, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

 The victim had reported that on the late afternoon of March 9th as she was leaving the store she was approached by a man who identified himself as being an asset protection officer with Walmart. 

The man escorted her to a restroom at the back of of the store where he sexually assaulted her. It was quickly determined that the suspect was not working for Walmart. The investigation continued and on at around 4p.m. Sunday, police were notified that the suspect was back at Walmart, walking around the store.

 Officers located&nbsp; 42-year-old Justin Metz inside the store and took him into custody on requested charges of kidnapping, rape, and sexual battery.

So says a French politician who is making headlines in his country for suggesting that the U.S. is no longer worthy of the monument that was a gift from France nearly 140 years ago.

White House Press Secretary on Monday afternoon responded to a question about President Trump giving the Statue of Liberty back.

As a member of the European Parliament and co-president of a small left-wing party in France, Raphaël Glucksmann cannot claim to speak for all of his compatriots.

But his assertion in a speech this weekend that some Americans “have chosen to switch to the side of the tyrants” reflects the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/denmark-europe-france-boycott-usa-trump-6e4b568ef4ae5705ac200a3986a8ebf6">broad shockwaves</a>&nbsp;that U.S. President Donald Trump’s seismic shifts in foreign and domestic policy are triggering in France and elsewhere in Europe.

“Give us back the Statue of Liberty,” Glucksmann said, speaking Sunday to supporters of his Public Place party, who applauded and whistled.

“It was our gift to you. But apparently you despise her. So she will be happy here with us,” Glucksmann said.

UNESCO, the United Nations’ cultural arm that has the statue on its list of World Heritage treasures, notes that the iconic monument is U.S. government property.

It was initially envisaged as a monumental gesture of French-American friendship to mark the 100th anniversary of the July 4, 1776,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/today-in-history/july-4">Declaration of Independence.</a>

But a war that erupted in 1870 between France and German states led by Prussia diverted the energies of the monument’s designer, French sculptor Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi.

The gift also took time to be funded, with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.quimper.bzh/uploads/Image/0a/18701_266_souscription-a-l-erection-de-la-statue-de-la-Liberte.jpg" target="_blank">a decision taken</a>&nbsp;that the French would pay for the statue and Americans would cover the costs of its pedestal.

Transported in 350 pieces from France, the statue was officially unveiled Oct. 28, 1886.

Is France’s government offering asylum to Lady Liberty?

No. French-U.S. relations would have to drop off a cliff before Glucksmann found support from French President Emmanuel Macron’s government.

For the moment, the French president is treading a fine line — trying to work with Trump and temper some of his policy shifts on the one hand but also pushing back hard against some White House decisions, notably Trump’s tariff hikes.

Macron has let his prime minister, François Bayrou, play the role of being a more critical voice.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-zelenskyy-france-bayrou-ukraine-oval-office-1b12c5024d0aad34bd4336ef931e51f0">Bayrou tore into the “brutality”</a>&nbsp;that was shown to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-zelenskyy-oval-office-ukraine-russia-blowup-8aa63e55c859e8fea963911478c376ee">during his White House visit</a>&nbsp;and suggested that Trump’s administration&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/france-ukraine-bayrou-macron-trump-military-drones-aef148aa847dd36722cbf0c99c901022">risked handing victory to Russia</a>&nbsp;when it paused military aid to Ukraine.

Glucksmann’s party has been even more critical, posting accusations on its website that Trump is wielding power in an “authoritarian” manner and is “preparing to deliver Ukraine on a silver platter” to Russia.

In his speech, Glucksmann referenced New York poet Emma Lazarus’ words about the statue, the “mighty woman with a torch” who promised a home for the “huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”

“Today, this land is ceasing to be what it was,” Glucksmann said.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A Kansas teen accused in a deadly hit-and run accident was in court Friday.

Peyton Allart, 19, Wichita, entered a guilty plea to leaving the scene of an accident that killed&nbsp;28-year-old Jaz Brooks, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Just after 3a.m. June 23, police responded to a vehicule collision at the intersection of Central and Mclean in Wichita, according to Officer Kris Gupilan.

First responders discovered a dark-colored Saturn involved in the incident. The passenger, identified as Brooks, was found trapped inside the vehicle and pronounced deceased. The driver of the Saturn received an evaluation by EMS for non-lifethreatening injuries at the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a black Ford F-150 had collided with the Saturn on its passenger side and fled prior to law enforcement's arrival. Officers successfully located the suspect identified as Allart and the vehicle several hours later.&nbsp; &nbsp;She is scheduled for sentencing on April 25, according to the district attorney's office.

“We have a tremendous amount of paper. You’ve got a lot of reading,” Trump said to reporters.

He also said he doesn’t believe anything will be redacted from the files.

“I said, ‘Just don’t redact. You can’t redact,’” he said.

🎥Trump: Files on JFK assassination to be released Tuesday

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A former pastor of a Texas megachurch accused of child sexual abuse surrendered to Oklahoma authorities Monday.

Robert Preston Morris, 63, turned himself in to officials in Osage County, where he was&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/texas-megachurch-pastor-child-sexual-abuse-charges-7780fee17c2f670f1ef34a8d72bc6a14">charged last week</a>&nbsp;with five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child, Phil Bacharach, a spokesman for the Oklahoma Attorney General's Office, told The Associated Press.

Court records show an Osage County judge set a $50,000 bond and ordered Morris to surrender his passport.

Morris is expected to make an initial appearance before a judge at 10 a.m. on May 9, Bacharach said.

Attorney Mack Martin declined to comment on the charges but said he anticipated entering a not guilty plea on Morris' behalf.

Morris&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/texas-pastor-robert-morris-abuse-cb2c633de3a5d43538141c1736e33245">resigned last year</a>&nbsp;as pastor of Gateway Church in the Dallas suburb of Southlake after a woman accused him of sexually abusing her in the 1980s.

The victim, referred to in the indictment as C.C., told authorities the abuse started when she was 12 years old and Morris was a traveling evangelist staying in Hominy, Oklahoma, with her family, according to the attorney general’s office. She said the abuse continued for four years.

Cindy Clemishire, Morris’ accuser, said in a statement that she is very grateful to the authorities who have worked to make the indictment possible and is hopeful “justice will ultimately prevail.”

“After almost 43 years, the law has finally caught up with Robert Morris for the horrific crimes he committed against me as a child,” said Clemishire, now 55. “Now, it is time for the legal system to hold him accountable.”

The AP typically does not name people who say they have been sexually assaulted, but Clemishire said she would like her name included.

Morris was known to be&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/6725d707f61847ebb770bad1ca3a2376">politically active</a>. Defense attorney John Brink confirmed Monday that his client had died but declined to give details. A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Fargo, North Dakota, which is handling the case, did not immediately return a phone call seeking further information.

According to court filings, Saliterman was hospitalized in early January "for inability to walk and sepsis,” an infection that can be life-threatening. He attended his arraignment three days later via video from what looked like a hospital room. In an update to the court late last month, Brink told the court that his client had been discharged to a hospice facility and that his prognosis was poor. An accompanying letter from his doctor listed severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease requiring supplemental oxygen and Parkinson's disease.

Man accused of hiding stolen ruby slippers from 'The Wizard of Oz' is dead

GEARY COUNTY—The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified the woman trapped in her car overnight after a crash that occurred just after 11:30p.m. Sunday on Interstate 70 in Geary County.

According to the Patrol, a 2023 Ford Edge driven by Rhonda L. Moore, 65, Wise, Virginia, was westbound on Interstate 70 just west of Humboldt Creek Road.

The SUV traveled off the road into the north ditch and rolled onto on its top.&nbsp; A passing motorist finally saw the SUV just before 8a.m. Monday and called for help. EMS transported Moore to Stormont Vail for treatment of serious injuries. She was properly restrained, according to the KHP.

GEARY COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a single-vehicle crash that critically injured a woman in Geary County.

Early Monday, a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper responded to the serious rollover crash on Interstate 70, where the driver had been trapped in her wrecked vehicle overnight—injured, alone, and waiting for help, according to a social media report from the patrol.

The KHP is working to determine exactly when the crash occurred.&nbsp; First responders were notified just after 8a.m. Monday.

"Geary County first responders were first on the scene, quickly working to assess the situation, provide medical care, and begin the initial response."

"As daylight broke, the wreckage finally became visible to a passing motorist, who made the call that set everything into motion. With EMS, fire crews, and KHP working together, Life Star was called in to airlift the woman to a hospital."

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Trump signed a measure on Monday to end the Biden-enra methane fee on oil and gas producers.

The measure, approved by Republican majorities in the House and Senate, eliminates a federal fee on companies that&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/science-texas-trending-news-climate-and-environment-0eb6880f7c4532a845155a3bd44c2e4be-epa-climate-biden-oil-gas-5020fdf48c51918d42176e0a4f6093dd">release high levels of methane</a>, a&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/methane-satellite-monitoring-ghgsat-climate-change-c5bdd53058cdcbf0c83a6a1080398222">planet-warming “super pollutant.”</a>

The fee, which hadn’t gone into effect, was expected to bring in more than $7 billion over the next decade and lower U.S. methane emissions, averting thousands of early deaths and tens of thousands of asthma attacks and lost school days every year.

Methane is a much stronger global warming gas than carbon dioxide, especially in the short term. Oil and gas producers are among the biggest U.S. methane emitters.

Trump has more good news for oil and gas producers

The Sedgwick County Zoo announced on Monday that 29-year-old African elephant Simunye, delivered a stillborn calf following a healthy, full-term pregnancy, according to a social media report from the zoo.

 The Zoo community, staff, and elephant herd alike are mourning this devastating loss. This would have marked the first elephant born at Sedgwick County Zoo in its 54-year history.

 The monumental journey of Simunye's 22-month pregnancy ended in heartbreak on Friday, despite the expert care provided by the elephant care and veterinary teams. 

Regular prenatal exams and behavioral observations indicated that both mom and calf were healthy with no sign of complications throughout the entire gestational term. 

Simunye began showing signs of active labor early Thursday morning while the care team watched remotely to allow for the most natural birthing environment. She delivered her calf Friday afternoon and despite her best attempts to assist, it showed no signs of movement. 

Other members of the herd surrounded Simunye throughout labor, and continued to provide support throughout the night as they grieved the loss together. The calf, a female, was named Malaika, which means “angel” in Swahili.&nbsp;

“This is a time of extreme sadness for the entire Zoo family, “ said Scott Newland, President and CEO of Sedgwick County Zoo. “We were so excited to welcome a new member to the herd, and the entire pregnancy progressed exactly as it should have. Unfortunately though, not all pregnancies end in healthy births and we don’t always get an answer as to why.”&nbsp;

A thorough necropsy has been conducted and determined that the calf died during the birthing process.

Simunye will continue to recover under the careful watch of the herd and the elephant care team. Elephants are extremely intelligent, social, and emotional animals, exhibiting strong bonds within their herd. They are known to provide support and comfort for one another through every birth, death, and each milestone in between.&nbsp;

“We know the deep connection our community has with our elephant herd, and we are grateful for your compassion, understanding, and support as we navigate this difficult time,” said Newland. “The team remains committed to providing the very best physical and emotional care for Simunye, as well as the rest of the herd as they process this unexpected loss.”

The Sedgwick County Zoo remains steadfast in its commitment to the preservation of African elephants in North America, actively participating in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ African Elephant Species Survival Plan. Four other elephants in Sedgwick County Zoo’s herd are expecting calves this year, and the team will continue to do everything they can to ensure healthy births for Talia, Arusi, Xolani, and Zuberi, while honoring the memory of the calf we so dearly hoped to welcome to the herd.

Devastating loss to elephant herd at Kansas zoo

WASHINGTON (AP) —Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin announced nearly three dozen deregulatory moves that he said would spur the U.S. economy by rolling back rules that have unfairly burdened industry. Many of the moves would affect landmark regulations aimed at protecting clean air and water.

Here’s a look at some of the 31 regulatory changes Zeldin announced:

Reconsider power plant emissions standards

The Biden administration&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/power-plants-coal-natural-gas-biden-epa-5c96ca146e7f70b47806beb4bc3713e6">set limits on planet-warming emissions</a>&nbsp;from existing gas and coal-fired power plants – a major step in the administration’s effort to reduce greenhouse gases from the heavily polluting energy sector. Trump has long opposed such tough, climate-friendly limits and has instead promoted oil and gas development. Zeldin said the agency would reconsider the Biden administration standards to avoid constraining energy production.

Reconsider toxic emission limits on power plants

Coal plants emit toxic metals like mercury and the Biden administration issued a rule&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mercury-coal-epa-power-plant-health-9fc882da610ff750a91b7ac50ca33bd6">to severely limit those pollutants.</a>&nbsp;Officials at the time said technology had progressed enough for these plants to do better. The EPA on Wednesday said nearly two dozen states had sued, arguing the rule was costly and a major burden, especially to coal plants. They also considering offering industry a two-year compliance extension while officials reconsider the rule.

Reconsider wastewater rules for coal and other power plants

Hazardous metals like mercury and arsenic end up in the wastewater of steam-powered electric generating power plants like coal. These can have serious health effects including increasing cancer rates and lowering childhood IQ scores. The Biden administration tightened regulations of this wastewater. The EPA said it will revisit those “stringent” rules that are costly to industry and therefore may raise residential energy bills.

Currently, treated wastewater generated from oil and gas drilling can be used in limited ways in certain western lands, such as for agriculture. Environmentalists say there can be a broad range of contaminants in the wastewater, some of which might not be known. The EPA said it will reconsider those rules and look at how the treated water could be used for other purposes like cooling data centers, fighting fires and other ecological needs. They say the current rules are costly, old and don’t reflect the capabilities of modern treatment technologies.

Reconsider petrochemical emergency planning

The Biden administration tightened safeguards against accidents for industrial and chemical plants that millions of people live near. The agency’s risk management program added planning and reporting requirements for facilities and forced some to implement new safeguards. Accidents at these plants can be severe – a 2019 explosion at a Texas facility, for example, forced tens of thousands to evacuate, for example. Industry associations have criticized parts of the rule, such as requirements to publicly report sensitive information.

Zeldin said Biden administration officials “ignored recommendations from national security experts on how their rule makes chemical and other sensitive facilities in America more vulnerable to attack.” The EPA is reconsidering the rule.

Reconsidering greenhouse gas reporting requirements

The EPA said it was reconsidering its mandatory greenhouse gas reporting program, which requires thousands of major industrial polluters to tell the agency about its emissions. Zeldin said the “bureaucratic government program” costs hundreds of millions of dollars and doesn’t help air quality. Until now, the EPA said the data helped businesses compare their emissions to competitors and find opportunities to reduce them and lower costs.

Reconsider light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty vehicle regulations

Zeldin vowed to review his agency’s&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/epa-electric-vehicles-emissions-limits-climate-biden-e6d581324af51294048df24269b5d20a">emissions standards for cars and trucks</a>, calling the tightened emissions rules the “foundation for the Biden-Harris electric vehicle mandate.” Nothing the Biden administration implemented required automakers to make and sell EVs or for consumers to buy them. Loosening standards would allow vehicles to emit more planet-warming greenhouse gases, but many automakers have already been investing in making their vehicles more efficient.

Reconsider 2009 Endangerment Finding and regulations that rely on it

The scientific finding, under the 2009 Clean Air Act, determined that planet-warming greenhouse gases endanger public health and welfare. It has been at the core of the nation’s action against climate change. Trump had already directed the EPA to consider the finding’s “legality” in an executive order. Experts say the impacts of climate change on human health and the environment are already clear, and that upending the finding would be devastating.

Reconsideration of technology transition rule

This program enforced strict rules to reduce the use of&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/hfc-refrigerant-chemical-air-conditioners-epa-ac01324c05ba5bf5f54bc794c1054296">hydrofluorocarbons</a>, highly potent and planet-warming greenhouse gases used in refrigerators, air conditioners, heat pumps and more. HFCs, as they are known, are thousands of times more powerful than carbon dioxide and leak through equipment that uses compressed refrigerants. Dozens of countries around the globe have pledged to slash their use and production of the chemicals.

This rule was intended to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-epa-good-neighbor-air-pollution-ea23421c78999293267339faf4453cdb">limit air pollution by restricting</a>&nbsp;power plant smokestack emissions, and those from other industrial sites, across 11 states. Eliminating it would especially&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/epa-plan-would-limit-downwind-pollution-from-power-plants-b319d86b609aa149f58d4895be406bb2">impact downwind neighborhoods</a>&nbsp;that are burdened by pollution from ground-level ozone, or smog, that is out of their control. However, the Supreme Court had already put a hold on the rule&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/supreme-court-epa-good-neighbor-air-pollution-6665ba500aa2abb797bd9704e014909c">last summer,</a>&nbsp;ruling that states challenging it were likely to prevail.

Reconstitute Science Advisory Board and Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee

These seats have long been politicized given how influential they can be in setting national environmental policy. The board&nbsp;<a href="https://www.epa.gov/aboutepa/about-science-advisory-board-sab-and-sab-staff-office" target="_blank">reviews</a>&nbsp;“the quality and relevance of the scientific and technical information being used by the EPA or proposed as the basis for Agency regulations” and agency research programs. Congress directed the agency to establish the board to provide the Administrator science advice in 1978. The committee can give “independent advice” to the agency’s Administrator specific to the nation’s Ambient Air Quality Standards.

Reconsider Particulate Matter National Ambient Air Quality Standards

Power plants and industrial facilities release particulate matter, or soot, that can easily pass through a person’s lungs and into their bloodstream. Last year, the Biden administration tightened standards regulating soot in response to scientific research indicating existing regulations were insufficient. The EPA said it will reconsider those rules and look at how the treated water could be used for other purposes like cooling data centers, fighting fires and other ecological needs. Kan. U.S. Senator praises EPA for deregulatory moves around water, air, climate

KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement are investigating a weekend homicide in Kansas City.

Just after 2:15p.m. Sunday, police were called to a shooting at an apartment building in the 400 block of E. Armour Blvd. in Kansas City, according to KCPD Captain Jake Becchina.

Officers were directed inside the building to an apartment upstairs where they located 43-year-old Terrance Frost unresponsive just outside one of the apartment units.

Officers summoned EMS to the scene who pronounced Frost deceased.

Responding officers detained an adult female for further investigation at the scene. Detectives spoke with numerous people who were at the scene when officers arrived and canvassed for any additional witnesses.

Detectives are not looking for any additional suspects at this time, according to Becchina.

A U.S. airstrike in Iraq last week killed the Islamic State terror network's No. 2 leader, according to a statement from the U.S. Central Command.

&nbsp;On March 13, U.S. Central Command forces, in cooperation with Iraqi Intelligence and Security Forces, conducted a precision airstrike in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, that killed the Global ISIS #2 leader, chief of operations and the Delegated Committee Emir – Abdallah Makki Muslih al-Rifai, alias “Abu Khadijah”, and one other ISIS operative.

As the Emir of ISIS’ most senior decision-making body, Abu Khadijah maintained responsibility for operations, logistics, and planning conducted by ISIS globally, and directs a significant portion of finance for the group’s global organization.

After the strike, CENTCOM and Iraqi forces moved to the strike site and found both dead ISIS operatives. Both terrorists were wearing unexploded “suicide vests” and had multiple weapons. CENTCOM and Iraqi forces were able to identify Abu Khadijah through a DNA match from DNA collected on a previous raid where Abu Khadijah narrowly escaped.

“Abu Khadijah was one of the most important ISIS members in the entire global ISIS organization. We will continue to kill terrorists and dismantle their organizations that threaten our homeland and U.S., allied and partner personnel in the region and beyond,” said Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, commander, U.S. Central Command.

KANSAS CITY —While working on a fire at the Batliner Recycling facility on Saturday, the Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department placed its remote-controlled tracked robot into service for the first time.

Just before 7a.m., crews responded to a reported fire at 2501 Front Street&nbsp; crews reported a large fire on the east end of the property, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins. The fire involved several semi trailers along with large piles of recyclable materials. Multiple companies were dispatched to get the fire under control.

 The railroad lines had to be shut down in order to run water supply lines across the tracks. 

In a historical moment for KCFD, a remote operated tracked robot capable of supplying 2500 gallons of water per minute was placed in service for the first time. The fire was brought under control around 9:00 a.m. 

The robot apparatus is equipped with multiple cameras, including thermal imaging, a front mounted blade for debris, tracked mobility for ease of operation and accessibility, and is supplied by multiple supply lines producing upwards of 2500 gallons per minute of water for fire suppression.

The apparatus can be used in various applications in both offensive and defensive operations to include large commercial structures, subterranean operations such as commercial caves, which Kansas City has many. It can also be used in defensive operations where placing firefighters would come at great risk, along with other various suppression activities.

This technology continues to keep the Kansas City Fire Department on the cutting edge of the fire&nbsp;service and adds to our storied history of leading the way in the industry.

Historic: KCMO Fire Department used robot to fight fire

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement have arrested a 25-year-old Wichita identified as&nbsp; woman identified as Tasha Diane Dillard, according to Sedgwick County booking records in connection with the death of seven-year-old Davion Gunter.

Just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a call of a shooting at an apartment in the 3700 block of E Ross Parkway, according to Wichita Police Captain Aaron Moses. The caller reported that someone had been shot and that a child was bleeding.

When officers arrived, they found Davion suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. Davion was transported to a local hospital, where he was&nbsp; pronounced deceased.

At the scene, officers found seven other children and multiple adults. Wichita Police homicide investigators and the Exploited and Missing Children’s Unit responded immediately, conducting interviews and gathered evidence.

As a result, police took Dillard into custody, and the children were placed in protective care.

                    </figure><p>SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement have arrested a 25-year-old Wichita identified as&nbsp; woman identified as Tasha Diane Dillard, according to Sedgwick County booking records in connection with the death of seven-year-old Davion Gunter.</p><p>Just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a call of a shooting at an apartment in the 3700 block of E Ross Parkway, according to Wichita Police Captain Aaron Moses. The caller reported that someone had been shot and that a child was bleeding.</p><p>When officers arrived, they found Davion suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso. Davion was transported to a local hospital, where he was&nbsp; pronounced deceased.</p><p>At the scene, officers found seven other children and multiple adults. Wichita Police homicide investigators and the Exploited and Missing Children’s Unit responded immediately, conducting interviews and gathered evidence.</p><p>As a result, police took Dillard into custody, and the children were placed in protective care. </p><p>Dillard has been booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges of Aggravated Child Endangerment and Felony Murder. The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charging consideration.</p>

Kansas woman arrested for shooting death of 7-year-old

SEDGWICK COUNTY—Law enforcement investigating vandalism to a church in Wichita arrested a 23-year-old Saline County man identified as Michael Angel Gonzalez, according to Sedgwick County booking records.

Just after 8:30 Saturday, police responded to a reported burglary at St. Patrick Catholic Church, located in the 2000 block of N. Arkansas Street in Wichita, according to Wichita Police spokesman Brad Wright.

Officers discovered significant vandalism, including hate speech and damage to items such as statues, candles, and glass. Notably, a United States flag had been burned.

Recognizing the severity of this crime, Wichita Police and investigators—alongside federal law enforcement partners including the FBI and ATF—immediately launched a full-scale investigation. The Wichita Police dedicated Crime Scene Investigation team worked diligently to analyze evidence, leading to the swift identification of a suspect.

Officers from the Wichita Police Field Community Response Teams were provided with critical intelligence and began searching for the suspect. At approximately 2:20 a.m. Sunday, officers located and arrested Gonzalez in the 2800 block of N. Hillside in Wichita without incident.

Gonzalez is being held in the Sedgwick County Jail on a bond of over $500,000 on requested charges of Burglary, Criminal Desecration, and Criminal Damage to Property. The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney and federal prosecutors for formal charging considerations.

JOHNSON COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a dog attack that critically injured a baby.

Just after 9:30p.m. March 13, the Prairie Village Police Department was notified by Children’s Mercy Hospital that an infant was in critical condition as a result of a dog bite, according to a statement from Prairie Village Police.

 The responding officers, along with the Investigations Unit, determined the incident occurred earlier in the evening in the 4900 block of W. 72nd Terrace in Prairie Village while the infant was being cared for by a non-parent caregiver.

The dog, a pit bull, was seized and impounded and, at the owner’s request, was euthanized .

All parties are cooperating with the investigation.The infant remains hospitalized and in critical condition.

Frye, 19, of Silver Lake, according to Sheriff's Deputy Abigail Christian.&nbsp; &nbsp; He was a senior at Silver Lake High School, according to USD 372.

A Ford F150 driven by Frye was eastbound on NW 35th from NW Hoch Road. The pickup left the road and flipped into a ditch.

Frye, the sole occupant of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene.&nbsp; The accident remains under investigation.

The Houthi-run Health Ministry said the U.S. strikes on Saturday killed at least 53 people, including five women and two children, and wounded almost 100 in the capital of Sanaa and other provinces, including Saada, the rebels’ stronghold on the border with Saudi Arabia.

“We’re not going to have these people controlling which ships can go through and which ones cannot. And so your question is, how long will this go on? It will go on until they no longer have the capability to do that," Secretary of State Marco Rubio told CBS on Sunday. He said these are not the one-off retaliation strikes the Biden administration carried out after Houthi attacks.

President Donald Trump on Saturday vowed to use “overwhelming lethal force” until the Houthis cease their attacks, and warned that&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/iran">Tehran</a>&nbsp;would be held “fully accountable” for their actions.

Rubio said some Houthi facilities had been destroyed.</p><p>The Houthis’ political bureau has said the rebels will respond to the U.S. strikes and “meet escalation with escalation.”</p><p>The rebels on Sunday claimed to have targeted the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/truman-aircraft-carrier-collision-merchant-vessel-50e039f339c4658d246a08ca496a21d9">USS Harry S. Truman</a>&nbsp;carrier strike group with missiles and a drone.</p><p>According to a U.S. official, the Houthis did fire drones and at least one missile in response to the U.S. attack. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to provide updated information on operations, said that beginning at about midnight local time in Yemen, the Houthis fired 11 drones and at least one missile over a period of about 12 hours. Ten of the drones were intercepted by U.S. Air Force fighter jets and one was intercepted by a Navy F/A-18 fighter jet. The missile fell into the water far from the ship, and nothing came close to hitting either the carrier or the warships in its strike group.</p><p>Initially officials said they had no information on Houthi launches, but the official said they were able to get updated information.</p><p>The spokesperson for U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a statement called for “utmost restraint and a cessation of all military activities,” while warning of the “grave risks” to the dire humanitarian situation in Yemen, the Arab world’s poorest nation.</p><p>Rubio said that over the past 18 months the Houthis had attacked the U.S. Navy “directly” 174 times and targeted commercial shipping 145 times using “guided precision anti-ship weaponry.”</p><p>The attacks sparked the most serious combat the U.S. Navy had seen since World War II.</p><p>On Sunday, the head of Iran's paramilitary Revolutionary Guard, Gen. Hossein Salami, denied his country was involved in the Houthis' attacks, saying it “plays no role in setting the national or operational policies” of&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/hamas-hezbollah-houthis-iran-militant-groups-745bfc36e23997ee3f0bc499a9f5c16d">the militant groups it is allied with</a>&nbsp;across the region, according to state-run TV.</p><p>Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, writing on X, urged the U.S. to halt its airstrikes and said Washington cannot dictate Iran's foreign policy.</p><p>The U.S. and others have long accused Iran of&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-yemen-houthis-rebels-attack-airstrike-11b0e080b3982542dd621338a7b18afd">providing military aid</a>&nbsp;to the rebels. The U.S. Navy has seized Iranian-made missile parts and other weaponry it said was bound for the Houthis.</p><p>The United States, Israel and Britain previously hit Houthi-held areas in Yemen, but the new operation was conducted solely by the U.S. It was the first strike on the Houthis under the second Trump administration.</p><p>The USS Harry S. Truman carrier strike group, which includes the carrier, three Navy destroyers and one cruiser, is in the Red Sea and was part of the mission.
