The TMP-Marian Monarchs had nine players named to 15 spots
on the All-Mid-Continent League teams over the weekend.

Of the 15 players honored by the league coaches, six were
named to the first team.

They were running back Jackson Gillespie, wide receivers
Grant Nehls and Jacob Seib on offense. Nehls was a unanimous selection.

Gillespie finished with 697 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns
on the season. Nehls hauled in 22 passes for 550 yards and six touchdowns and Seib
had 21 catches for 279 yards and three touchdowns. 

On defense, Seib was also a unanimous first-team pick at
defensive back, and Nehls was named to the first team as a defensive lineman.

Seib was the Monarchs top corner and finished with 18
tackles and one interception, a pick-6.

Nehls collected a team-high 72 tackles, 15 for loss, with
nine sacks and an interception.

Carson Liles was named first-team kicker.

He was three-for-four on field goals and a perfect 24-of-24
on extra points.

Liles was a second-team selection at quarterback and was
joined on the second team by fellow Monarchs, Isaac Purinton at wide receiver
and offensive linemen Brayden Gilmore and Kenneth Walker.

Gillespie was a second-team pick at linebacker along with
Caden Dinkel, defensive back Nash Dreiling and defensive linemen Gilmore and
Walker.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Flory Bidunga had 18 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five blocks, Bryson Tiller added 17 points and nine boards, and Kansas beat Notre Dame 71-61 in the Players Era Tournament on Monday for its first power-conference victory of the season.

Tre White chipped in with 16 points and nine rebounds for Kansas (4-2), which was coming off a 78-66 loss to then-No. 5 Duke in the Champions Classic. Melvin Council Jr. scored 12 and Darryn Peterson, averaging 25 points in two games, did not play.

Markus Burton led Notre Dame (4-2) with 24 points and Jalen Haralson added 13.

Bidunga scored 14 points in the first half on 6-of-9 shooting to help Kansas take a 39-32 lead. Notre Dame got as close as four points in the second half.

Council made back-to-back 3-pointers early in the second half to give Kansas a 51-40 lead. A White 3-pointer made it 62-54 with 5:33 left and Jamari McDowell made his only 3 at the 2:41 mark for a 10-point lead

The last meeting between the schools was on Jan. 23, 1988, a Notre Dame 80-76 win at home.

Hays High held the first signings of the 2025-26 school year. A pair of seniors made their choices official on Monday afternoon.

Sienna Lummus landed with Highland Community College to continue her soccer career. Head coach Tyler Rueschoff placed Lummus at a new position, starting center back, as a sophomore. Then as a junior she took "the whole back line by the horns" as a great line.&nbsp;

Lummus said her decision to join Highland Community College was decided on the belief that the coaching staff placed in her. A coaching staff with two familiar names to Hays on it. The program is led by Jordan and Jacob Maska.

Lummus was a named to the Western Athletic Conference second team in the spring.

Zoe Winter knew the moment Southern Nazarene University and she started having conversations it would be her top school. Once the offer to continue her basketball journey came she committed right away.

Coach Len Melvin says one of the most impressive things about Winter is her willingness to embrace her role on the team even as that role changes from year to year and even game to game.

Winter was a named to the Western Athletic Conference second team after a team campaign that ended at 22-1.

📝 Winter, Lummus make collegiate choices

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dan Mukuna of Fort Hays State Men's Basketball was named the MIAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week for Monday (Nov. 24) following his big performances in a pair of FHSU wins last week. Mukuna averaged 28.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per game, helping FHSU to wins over South Dakota Mines and Bethel College.

Mukuna averaged a double-double last week in points and rebounds. His big week started with a career-high 34-point, 15-rebound performance in the 16-point win at South Dakota Mines, scoring the team's first 12 points and eventually 20 in the first half. He doubled his previous career high in scoring and was one shy of doubling his previous career high for rebounds. Mukuna finished 14-of-21 from the field, hitting the most field goals in a game by an FHSU player since Rob Davis made 14 back during the 2016-17 season.

Mukuna led the Tigers again with 22 points in a 21-point win over Bethel. Mukuna hit 5-of-7 from the field and 11-of-12 at the free-throw line in the win. On the week, Mukuna shot 67.9 percent from the field and 94.4 percent at the free-throw line. He also averaged 1.0 assists, steals, and blocks per game for the week.

This is the first MIAA Athlete of the Week honor for Mukuna, and it is the first for FHSU Men's Basketball since former Tiger Kaleb Hammeke earned it for a second time in the 2024-25 season back on January 20, 2025.

Jackson's accolade was the 31st time a Wildcat has been named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and the first since running back DJ Giddens earned the nod following the 2023 UCF game. It is the first time ever the Wildcat offensive line has picked up the unit honor as the Big 12 began that award this season.

A native of Haines City, Florida, Jackson rushed for 293 yards and three touchdowns against the Utes to break Darren Sproles' school record of 292 yards set against Louisiana in 2004. It was also 20 yards more than Sproles' conference-game record of 273 yards against Missouri in 2003. When adding in his 19-yard reception, Jackson's 312 scrimmage yards ranked second in school history and was the ninth-most all-purpose yards in K-State history. He became the first Wildcat to eclipse 300 all-purpose yards since Tyler Lockett had a 321-yard output at West Virginia in 2014.

The Wildcat offensive line paved the way for 472 rushing yards overall, breaking a school record that stood for 71 years as K-State topped the previous record of 439 yards at Drake on November 6, 1954. The rushing total came on only 42 attempts as the Wildcats' 11.2-yard average was their best in the Big 12 era by nearly 2.0 yards per rush (9.4 average vs. Kansas in 2012). K-State totaled 574 yards of offense at Utah to tie for the eighth most in school history and rank third against a conference opponent.

The Wildcats close out the regular season on Saturday with their annual Senior Day game against Colorado. Kickoff inside Bill Snyder Family Stadium is scheduled for 11 a.m., and the game will be shown on FS1.

HAYS, Kan. – Dan Makuna scored 22 points and Kyle Grill added a double double with 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead Fort Hays State to a 74-53 win over Bethel College Sunday afternoon at Gross Memorial Coliseum.&nbsp;

Fort Hays State (3-1) limited Bethel (7-1) to 34.5 percent shooting for the game, including just 16 percent beyond the 3-point line. The Tigers only managed to shoot 39.3 percent but connected on 26-of-30 from the free throw line.

The game was scoreless for over five minutes at the start. Following the under 15 media timeout, Blake Danitschek hit a shot at the 14:15 mark. The Threshers remained within six points of the Tigers until the 5:20 mark when the Tigers went on a 9-0 run to close the first half and led 34-20 at halftime.

FHSU pushed their past 20 at the 12:20 mark of the second half. It reached 25, the largest of the game, twice in the final three minutes.

Mukuna finished with over 20 points for the second-straight game. Grill went past 20 for the first time this season, while tying his career high in rebounds. Muhamed Kante posted a new scoring high as a Tiger with 13 points. Grill and Lucas Hammeke each had three assists to lead the Tigers.

Fort Hays State returns to action on Tuesday for a contest at home with Sterling College. Game time will be 12 p.m. at Gross Memorial Coliseum as FHSU welcomes many of the area elementary schools to the game.

🏀 Tigers pick up home win over Bethel College

HAYS, Kan. - The fourth-ranked Fort Hays State men's soccer team secured a decisive 3-0 victory over UIndy Sunday in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Division II Championship. The Tigers (18-0-3) scored three times in the first half and held on to the shutout thanks to four saves from Payton Roehrich.

Fort Hays State, the top seed in Super Region 3 established early control, highlighted by three goals in the opening 30 minutes. Jackson Elgas opened the scoring in the fourth minute, scoring with one touch after a long, wind-aided pass from Roehrich found its way untouched into the attacking box.

Elias Ovelar Semeniuk doubled the lead in the 20th minute when he flicked a header past the keeper off a long Joseph Street throw in. The Tigers made it 3-0 10 minutes later when Bastian Carlman added a goal in the 30th minute. Juan Linares intercepted an errant Greyhound pass just outside the box before finding Street in space. The junior redirected the ball into the center of the box where a waiting Carlman used his right foot to beat the keeper and find the back of the net.

Ninth-seeded UIndy (11-6-3) had chances to respond, putting three shots on goal in the first half, but Roehrich was able to keep all three out of the net to maintain the shutout.

The second period featured a defensive stand by Fort Hays State, maintaining their three-goal lead against UIndy. The Greyhounds registered seven shots after intermission, but only one was on frame with Roehrich making the save in the 71st minute. A total of 10 yellow cards were issued in the match, including six on the Tigers.

Fort Hays State will make its ninth appearance in the round of 16 in 11 trips to the NCAA tournament next Sunday when the Tigers host either Maryville or Rockhurst.

⚽ No. 4 Tigers knock out UIndy in NCAA second round

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw for a season-high 352 yards, Kareem Hunt ran for 104 yards and a touchdown, and Harrison Butker's fifth field goal of the game gave the Kansas City Chiefs a come-from-behind 23-20 overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

Rashee Rice had eight catches for 141 yards, including two crucial ones on the Chiefs' tying touchdown drive in regulation and another in overtime, after Kansas City (6-5) had forced the high-powered Colts (8-3) to punt on a fourth consecutive three-and-out.

Butker ended the game with a 27-yard field goal with just under two minutes left in overtime, potentially keeping the Chiefs' playoff hopes alive. The reigning AFC champions had lost their previous two games, and another defeat against one of the hottest teams in the NFL on Sunday would have left Andy Reid's team needing a whole lot of help to make it back to the postseason.

The Colts blew a 20-9 fourth-quarter lead thanks in part to some questionable play-calling — and some worse execution.

They went almost entirely away from running back Jonathan Taylor down the stretch, putting the game instead in Daniel Jones' hands.

He wound up with 181 yards passing and two touchdowns, but most of that production came in the first half. Jones was just 8 of 18 for 83 yards in the second half, which allowed Mahomes and Co. to mount a comeback that injected some life in a dim season.

Taylor, meanwhile, only carried 16 times for 58 yards in his first game since a record-setting performance against the Falcons, when the Colts' star ran for 244 yards, piled up 286 from scrimmage and reached the end zone three times in an overtime win.

The Chiefs have struggled all season with turnovers at inopportune times, and another set the tone for the first half. Mahomes had a pass from his 4-yard line batted by Laiatu Latu, who brought it in himself for the defensive end's third pick of the season.

Two players later, Jones hit Michael Pittman to give Indianapolis a 7-0 lead.

The Chiefs answered with the first of two grinding, eight-plus minute first-half drives, but each netted just a field goal. And when the Colts moved briskly downfield again, and Jones found Drew Ogletree in the back of the end zone, they had built a 14-3 advantage.

The Colts were still clinging to 20-9 lead as the game headed to the fourth quarter.

Just as he's done so many times in his career, though, Mahomes mounted another comeback. He marched Kansas City 56 yards before Hunt's touchdown dive, then Mahomes found Rice for a 2-point conversion to close within a field goal with 8 1/2 minutes to go.

The Chiefs defense proceeded to step up, forcing a series of three-and-outs by the league's No. 1 offense.

Kansas City took over after the second one with 4:43 left at its 6. Mahomes hit Rice for 47 yards, then he found him again on fourth-and-3 near midfield for a 19-yard gain. Hunt's dive on third-and-1 gave the Chiefs first down at the Colts 2 with a minute to go, but he was stuffed on the next play, Mahomes threw incomplete on the next, and he was sacked on third down.

Butker banged through his fourth field goal, a 25-yard chip-shot as time expired, to send the game to overtime.

Turned out the Chiefs would give Butker another chance a few minutes later, this time to win the game.

Colts: WR Ashton Dulin left in the second half with a hamstring injury.

Chiefs: LG Trey Smith left in the second half with an ankle injury. TE Noah Gray finished the game in the concussion protocol.

The Chiefs visit the Cowboys on Thursday.

WICHITA, Kan. - The third-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team racked up 27 assists in a 90-54 win over William Jewell on Saturday at the Newman Classic, including a school-record 14 from Brooke Loewe. FHSU's 27 dimes are the most for the team against a Division II opponent since January 2022 (29 vs. Lincoln, 1/8/22).

Fort Hays State (4-0) opened with strong offensive execution, highlighted by Avery Lowe's two early layups, both assisted by Loewe. William Jewell (0-3) answered with an 8-3 run to take a momentary lead before Talexa Weeter gave the Tigers the lead for good just 3:40 into the game.

The Tigers capitalized on fast-break opportunities, with Weeter contributing significantly with a series of scores, including a three-pointer and several free throws. By the end of the first quarter, the Tigers led 27–13.

The game turned on an unusual play. After KSU took a 47-35 lead on Joe Jackson’s third rushing touchdown of the game, the Wildcats went for 2, but Utah’s Tao Johnson intercepted a tipped ball and returned it to the Kansas State end zone for 2 points to make it 47-37.

Dampier’s 20-yard TD toss to Larry Simmons got Utah within 47-44 with 2:47 left. After the Utes forced a punt, Dampier led the winning drive, setting up his go-ahead score with a 59-yard run to the 1 on fourth down.

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Rocco Becht threw for 241 yards and three touchdowns, with two scores and 73 yards going to Brett Eskildsen, and Iowa State defeated Kansas 38-14 on Saturday.

The Cyclones (7-4, 4-4 Big 12) earned their first win against the Jayhawks (5-6, 3-5) since 2021 and came away with their first home victory since Sept. 27 against Arizona.

Carsen Hansen rushed for 99 of his 120 yards in the first half, including a 4-yard score to put Iowa State ahead 14-0 early in the second quarter. Kyle Konrardy added the second-longest field goal of his career from 55-yards out to extend the lead 17-0 with 10:32 remaining before the break.

“(Hansen) has that physical ability to fall forward every time he runs the football," Iowa State coach Matt Campbell said. “He plays like that, and keeps that consistency all the time.”

The teams combined for four straight touchdown drives in the third quarter, with Iowa State leading 31-14 entering the fourth.

“Getting into a rhythm is beautiful,” Eskildsen said. “It’s huge momentum, you get the crowd into it and it’s just (big) having things like that.”

Aiden Flora capped the scoring with 1:07 left in the fourth with his first rushing touchdown of the season for the Cyclones.

“Execution today is the biggest word,” Becht said. “We had a confidence in one another knowing that everything was clicking and everyone was doing their jobs.”

Jalon Daniels was 13-of-23 passing for 154 yards and an interception for Kansas. Boden Groen had five catches for 76 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown from backup quarterback Cole Ballard.

“We've got to coach it better,” Kansas coach Lance Leipold said. “We've got to continue to find ways to execute.”

Becht looked much more confident in the first half against Kansas after completing his first 10 passes. He finished 18 of 23.

Kansas is in danger of missing out on bowl eligibility for the second straight season under Leipold.

Fort Hays State had 14 members of its team compete at the tournament and came away with a pair of placers as Morgan Maschmann placed eighth at 124 in addition to Renfro's victorious run.

The Missouri Valley Open is one of the largest women's wrestling tournaments in the nation annually with several of the nation's top teams at all NCAA levels, NAIA, and NJCAA competing. A total of 553 wrestlers over 30 teams competed in this year's tournament.

Renfro continued her dominant start to the 2025-26 season by going 6-0 in the tournament. She has been on a mission, now 11-0 for the season with eight falls and three 10-0 tech falls. She really put the hammer down in the semifinals and finals, taking out a pair of No. 3 nationally ranked wrestlers. In the semis, she pinned Mahalia Adams of Iowa Central (NJCAA No. 3 ranked by Open Mat) in 48 seconds. Then in the final, she knocked of NCAA No. 3 ranked Destiny Rodriguez of McKendree with a pin in 55 seconds. Renfro is ranked No. 5 in the latest NCAA rankings.

Maschmann put together a solid 5-3 weekend to place eighth. She won her first two matches by tech fall, then after dropping a match by fall, scored a tech fall and a pair of decisions in consolation action to ensure she would be in the placement matches. 🤼‍♀️ Renfro C\champion, Tiger women place par at Missouri Valley Open

KENOSHA, Wisc. - Fort Hays State distance runner Emily McCullough earned All-American status after placing 12th at the 2025 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at the Wayne E. Dannehl National XC Course.

The Hoxie, Kan. native completed the six-kilometer course in 20:38.0, more than 70 seconds faster than her time at last year's national championships. McCullough beat 251 runners in the 263-competitor field and was the top finisher out of the 26 individual competitors in the field.

The Central Region champion worked her way to the front of the pack from the start, crossing the one kilometer post in seventh place before hovering between 12th and 13th place for the remainder of the race.

McCullough is the third individual to earn cross country All-American status under head coach Dr. Jason McCullough, and the first since Regan Hodsden in 2022. Her 12th-place finish is the best result by an individual at the national championships in McCullough's 21 years as head coach, one better than Cory Keehn's 13th place result in 2013.

The senior is now a two-time All-American at FHSU after earning second team honors in track and field with a ninth-place finish in last year's 10,000m outdoor national championship.

McCullough beat 251 runners in the 263-competitor field and was the top finisher out of the 26 individual competitors in the field.The Central Region champion worked her way to the front of the pack from the start, crossing the one kilometer post in seventh place before hovering between 12th and 13th place for the remainder of the race.McCullough is the third individual to earn cross country All-American status under head coach Dr. Jason McCullough, and the first since Regan Hodsden in 2022. Her 12th-place finish is the best result by an individual at the national championships in McCullough's 21 years as head coach, one better than Cory Keehn's 13th place result in 2013.The senior is now a two-time All-American at FHSU after earning second team honors in track and field with a ninth-place finish in last year's 10,000m outdoor national championship.

VICTORIA – The Victoria Knights turned in one of their most complete
games of the season Friday night, rushing the ball almost at will at times and
combined with a suffocating defense, they cruised to a 48-0 win over Hodgeman
County in the 8-Man division 2 west semifinals.

The Knights took the opening possession and drove it right
down the field, capping off an eight-play touchdown drive with a 15-yard run by
Weston Scherrer, putting Victoria up 8-0 after the two-point conversion.

The Knights' defense had a stranglehold on the Hodgeman County offense throughout the game.

They forced them into a three-and-out on two of their first
three possessions, and the other ended in a turnover on downs.

The Knights meanwhile, scored on three of their first four
possessions.

Already leading 8-0, they put together a seven-play drive, aided
by a 13-yard pass to Wesley Sander that set up quarterback Wyatt Schmidtberger
for his first of two rushing touchdowns in the game and a 16-0 Victoria lead.

Victoria’s lone touchdown in the second quarter came when
Mason Mauck broke free, scoring a 31-yard touchdown with the two-point conversion
putting the Knights up 24-0 in the first half.

In the second half, it was more of the same from the Knights.


After a Knights interception on defense, Nic Sander broke
free and scored on a five-yard touchdown run for a 32-0 Victoria lead.

Later in the third quarter, Schmidtberger found Sander, on
fourth down, for a six-yard touchdown pass, and a 40-0 Knights lead.

Ethan VonLintel blocked a punt on the ensuing Longhorn drive
that resulted in a safety and a 42-0 Knights advantage.

Victoria’s final score came midway through the fourth
quarter on a Schmidtberger run from five yards out, closing out the Knights’
48-0 victory.

The Knights outgained the Longhorns 354 to 84 and pitched
their sixth shutout of the season.

Weston Sherrer finished with 102 yards rushing. Wyatt Schmidtberger
added 67 and Mason Mauck finished with 69 yards.

The Knights are headed back to the 8-Man Division 2 state championship
game and will face off with Hanover at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29th.
