LAWRENCE, Kan.&nbsp;– For the second-straight season and fifth time in poll history, Kansas men's basketball enters the season ranked No. 1 by the Associated Press (AP), as the AP released its preseason poll Monday. Kansas received 30 of a possible 60 first-place votes from the AP panel. Alabama is ranked second and had 14 first-place votes, while UConn, Houston and Iowa State round out the top five of the AP preseason poll.

"We welcome being preseason No. 1, especially with our returning players like Hunter (Dickinson), Dajuan (Harris) and KJ (Adams), and then you add the players we brought in," Kansas head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/bill-self/727">Bill Self</a>&nbsp;said. "The goal is to be No. 1 at the end of the season, and though we welcome this, it is not the end goal."

All five times KU has been No. 1 in the preseason poll have been in the&nbsp;<a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/bill-self/727">Bill Self</a>&nbsp;era. Besides 2024-25, the Jayhawks were No. 1 entering the 2004-05, 2009-10, 2018-19 and 2023-24 seasons. Kansas was also No. 1 in the first poll of the 1956-57 season, but preseason polls did not begin in 1961-62. This marks the 60th time Kansas has been ranked No. 1 and the last time KU was No. 1 in the AP poll was Nov. 20, 2023, the third poll of last season. KU was ranked in the top 10 of the 2023-24 AP poll all but three weeks.

For the 13th-consecutive year, Kansas men's basketball enters the 2024-25 season ranked seventh or higher. This is also the 15th time in the last 16 seasons that the Jayhawks have entered the season No. 7 or higher by the AP, including 12 times in the top five and seven in the top three. KU was No. 1 in 2009-10, No. 3 in 2016-17, No. 1 in 2018-19, No. 3 in 2019-20, No. 3 in 2021-22, No. 1 in 2023-24 and No. 1 in 2024-25.

Under 22nd-year and Hall of Fame head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/bill-self/727">Bill Self</a>, this is the 19th time that Kansas enters the season ranked seventh or higher in the Associated Press preseason poll. Historically, the No. 1 ranking marks the 27th time since the 1992-93 season that Kansas will enter the season seventh or higher.

Kansas will play 10 games against teams ranked in the preseason Associated Press Top 25, including seven against Big 12 opponents and eight against Top 10 foes. KU will play against No. 4 Houston (twice), No. 5 Iowa State (twice), No. 7 Duke, No. 8 Baylor, No. 9 North Carolina, No. 10 Arizona, No. 15 Creighton and No. 20 Cincinnati.

"To have three Big 12 teams in the top five and five in the top 10 just shows how competitive this league will be this season," Self said. "Every year we talk about the Big 12 being the toughest conference in the nation, and with the four additions, it became even stronger."

Kansas is coming off a 23-11 season where it advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 33rd&nbsp;time in the last 34 years, a run that started in 1990. KU returns three starters led by Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year&nbsp;<a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/hunter-dickinson/15488">Hunter Dickinson</a>, a 2024 Consensus All-America Second Team, All-Big 12 First Team and the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year selection. The center was the only player in the Big 12 to average a double-double (17.9 ppg, 10.9 rpg) last year. Graduate guard&nbsp;<a href="https://kuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/dajuan-harris-jr-/15490">Dajuan Harris Jr.</a>&nbsp;has been the starter each of the last three seasons and was the 2023 Big 12 Defensive player of the Year. TOPEKA - Former Fort Hays State women's basketball standout and coach Annette Wiles was inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame Sunday evening.

Wiles was one of 12 inducted in the ceremony held at Hotel Topeka.

Wiles was a two-time NAIA All-America selection and the NAIA National Tournament MVP her senior year when she helped lead Fort Hays State to the 1991 NAIA Women's Basketball national title. Wiles is also the all-time leading scorer in Fort Hays State program history with 2,407 points and a scoring average of 20.4 points per game. She is the only player in the program's history to score 2,000 points in a career and only player with a career scoring average better than 16 points per game. Wiles still owns FHSU career records for the following categories – field goals made (993), field goals attempted (1,700), and field goal percentage (.584). She also owns the single-season records for points (880, 1990-91), scoring average (24.4 ppg), field goals made (358), field goals attempted (582), and rebounds (364).

Following her four-year playing career at Fort Hays State, Wiles went on to have a successful career as a women's collegiate basketball coach. She put together a career record 409-227 (.643). Her first head coaching position was at Bethany (Kan.) College (164-52 record) for seven years from 1994-2000 before leading her alma mater Fort Hays State (136-89 record) for eight years from 2000-2008. She moved on to become head coach for seven years at Minnesota Duluth (109-86 record) from 2008-2015. She was twice named Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year and twice named the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. She led three teams to NCAA Tournament appearances, which included Fort Hays State in 2005 and Minnesota Duluth in 2010 and 2012. She led Bethany College to four NAIA national tournament appearances. Following her time at Minnesota Duluth, Wiles returned to Kansas as athletic director at Topeka High School and then became the director of Hummer Sports Park in Topeka.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Tigers scored the first two goals of the match before Newman scored late to cut the margin in half. The Jets fell to 0-11-1 overall and 0-6 in the MIAA with the loss.

The Tigers picked up their first goal in the 30th minute on a crossing pass from Sullivan Kelly that found the head of Sydney Cotter inside the box. It was Cotter's third goal of the season, tying for the team lead. FHSU held a slight 9-8 shot advantage over NU in the opening half even while going into a steady breeze. FHSU keeper Tatum Hoge and Newman keeper Carla Apodaca each made five saves in the opening half.

Fort Hays State extended its lead in the 79th minute when Gracen Chaney perfectly bent a corner kick up over a leaping keeper and into the net. It was her second goal off a corner kick this season, and proved to be the game winner.

Newman kept formulating chances late in the game and cashed in on a long pass from Kinsey Logan to Delphine Sosu, who won a 1-on-1 situation with Hoge in the 85th minute. But the Tiger defense held off every other late charge from the Jets for the win.

FHSU finished with a 20-15 advantage in shot count. Hoge finished with eight saves for FHSU, while Apodaca had seven for Newman.

The Tigers remain at home for their next three matches. Next up is Northwest Missouri State on Friday, October 18 at 7 p.m.

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Avery Johnson rebounded from throwing a late interception by&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/RGIII/status/1845343431058420074">finding Jayce Brown</a>&nbsp;for a 50-yard touchdown with 2:14 remaining as&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/KStateFB/status/1845352115549471225">No. 18 Kansas State</a>&nbsp;escaped with a 31-28 win over Colorado on Saturday night.

The dual-threat quarterback for the Wildcats (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) finished with a rushing score and two passing TDs, both to Brown.

Leading 21-7 in the third quarter, the Wildcats saw the Buffaloes (4-2, 2-1) steadily chip away. Colorado took the lead when Shedeur Sanders threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to LaJohntay Wester with 3:12 left.

The score was set up when Johnson’s tipped pass resulted in a 59-yard interception return by cornerback Colton Hood, who was filling in after two-way star&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/travis-hunter-colorado-buffaloes-2b1dccbb45f5b415191c8672729d1389">Travis Hunter</a>&nbsp;left the game in the first half with an apparent shoulder injury.

Johnson needed only three plays to help Kansas State retake the lead. The Wildcats defense stopped the Buffaloes on downs to cement the win.

“Ultimately you’ve just got to make plays in big moments,” Johnson said. “Ultimately, that’s what our guys did.”

It was nearly the second straight magical comeback at Folsom Field for the Buffaloes. They beat Baylor on Sept. 21 in overtime after tying it up on a Hail Mary pass with no time left in regulation.

“Sometimes when you lose in life, you get your butt kicked and you've just got to take. Sometimes you lose, you say, ‘Dang, we should’ve won that. We should've had that,'” Colorado coach Deion Sanders said. “That was one of those types of games. That's not taking anything away from our opponents because they played their butts off.”

The Buffaloes' three-game winning streak came to a halt. More concerning, the health of Hunter, who appeared to hurt his shoulder catching a Shedeur Sanders pass and running full speed into safety Daniel Cobbs in the second quarter. The team also lost receivers Jimmy Horn Jr., Omarion Miller and Terrell Timmons Jr. to injuries.

Hunter is a Heisman hopeful for his play as a cornerback and receiver. Before leaving, he showed off his blocking skills by picking a defender and allowing Wester to score on a 25-yard pass.

Prior to the interception and the comeback, Johnson was having all sorts of fun on the field. He broke out the “Deion Shuffle” after a score. The cameras also caught Johnson taking a selfie with a fan in the stands who handed him their phone as he rode a stationary bike.

Johnson briefly went to the locker room in the third quarter holding his left side but returned to throw a TD pass to make it 21-7.

Shedeur Sanders finished 34 of 40 for 388 yards and three scores. He completed a school-best 16 straight passes and nearly had a 17th in a row but Will Sheppard dropped a pass in his hands. Soon after,&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/CUBuffsFootball/status/1845326551191060763">Sheppard made up for it</a>&nbsp;with a difficult 7-yard TD reception to make it 21-14.

“Yeah, we made a statement — that we lost,” the Colorado QB said.

Kansas State: Johnson and the Wildcats didn't panic after losing the lead and found a way to respond. “Some of the things that happened will help us down the road,” coach Chris Klieman said.

Colorado: Safety Shilo Sanders made his return after missing three games with a forearm injury. “I thought he was rusty," his father/coach said.

Longtime NBA standout Carmelo Anthony was on the sideline wearing a Colorado Avalanche jersey.&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/CUBuffsFootball/status/1845300543486402843">Kevin Durant showed</a>&nbsp;up near Colorado's bench, too. The Phoenix Suns play the Denver Nuggets in a preseason game Sunday night.

🏈Johnson throws for winning TD as No. 18 K-State beats Colorado

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State held Washburn to just 59 yards and no points in the second half and defeated the Ichabods 38-7 Saturday night at Lewis Field. The Tigers outscored Washburn 28-0 in the second half as they moved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the MIAA. The Ichabods dropped to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in the MIAA.

After Washburn scored on their first possession, the Tigers held them to just 125 yards the rest of the game while scoring 38 unanswered points.

The Tigers answered Washburn's touchdown with one of their own the very next possession. Caleb Heavner connected with Jayden Horace on a 4-yard touchdown pass in the back right corner of the endzone. The game remained tied until the final play of the second quarter when Carson Arndt connected on a career-long 52-yard field goal. It matched the fifth-longest field goal in program history.

The Tigers scored touchdowns on four of their five second half possessions. Heavner hit tight end Cale Cormaney on an 8-yard shovel pass with 6:21 to play in the third quarter. Just over a minute later, the Tigers delivered a big blow when Heavner hit Horace on a&nbsp;73-yard bomb. to push the lead to 24-7.

In the fourth quarter, Shane Watts scored on a&nbsp;1-yard touchdown run and Joshua Clark added a&nbsp;4-yard touchdown run. 

Fort Hays State finished with 464 yards of total offense, while holding Washburn to just 208. It was the second time the Tigers held an opponent under 250 yards this season.

Heavner completed 26-of-32 passes for a season-high 319 yards with three touchdowns. Horace had 10 catches for 160 yards and the two scores. Watts rushed for 72 yards and the score. Benyon Williams&nbsp;led the Tiger tackling effort with seven, Jaden Barker added a&nbsp;pair of sacks, while Demitri Scott added 1 1/2 sacks.

Sam Van Dyne led the Ichabods with 122 passing yards, while Tyler Bowden had 53 rushing yards. Cole Keller led WU in receiving with 36 yards. Planville native Jordan Finnesy led the Ichabods with nine tackles. and blocked a field goal.

Fort Hays State heads on the road to play nationally ranked Pittsburg State next Saturday in Pittsburg. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Carnie Smith Stadium.

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State volleyball team fell in five sets against Emporia State Saturday afternoon (Oct. 12) inside Gross Memorial Coliseum, 22-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-17, 9-15. The Tigers are now 9-7 on the year and 1-6 in MIAA play, while the Hornets move to 12-5 overall and 4-3 in league action.

Fort Hays State led for much of the first set, going up by as many as three points on multiple occasions, before a 5-0 Hornet run turned a 15-14 Tiger advantage into a 19-15 ESU lead. FHSU closed within one at 23-22 before the visitors scored two in a row to take the set, 25-22.

Emporia State quickly went up by three in the second set, but the Tigers battled back to take the lead at 8-7 on a block from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/ashlyn-reeves/7949">Ashlyn Reeves</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/caiya-stucky/7954">Caiya Stucky</a>. Fort Hays State and Washburn meet for the 78th&nbsp;time in football on Saturday night at Lewis Field Stadium in Hays. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The Tigers enter the game at 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA, receiving votes in the latest AFCA Top 25 Poll, and the Ichabods enter at 1-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Fort Hays State is coming off a 31-21 win over then No. 12 ranked Central Missouri last week in Hays. The result knocked the Mules out of the Top 25 of both the AFCA and D2Football.com Polls. It was Fort Hays State's third-straight win over an AFCA Top 25 ranked team in Hays, going back to last season.

Washburn fell in a home contest to Northwest Missouri State last week by a score of 51-34. Washburn's lone win this season was over Missouri Western on the road two weeks ago by a score of 24-16. The Ichabods' 1-4 record can be a bit deceiving though since all four of their losses have been to teams that have seen time in the AFCA Top 25 this season. Two of the four losses have been one-score games. This will be the fifth contest for the Ichabods against a team that has seen time in the AFCA Top 25 this season after FHSU was inside the Top 25 earlier this season.

Fort Hays State won last year's meeting between the schools in Topeka by a score of 31-28. He threw for 275 yards and rushed for 55 yards in the contest at UCO, then backed that with 302 passing yards and 97 rushing yards in the win over Central Missouri last week.

Also giving the Tigers strong offensive production is Shane Watts, averaging 129 all-purpose yards per game. He has produced at least 100 all-purpose yards in five of six games this season. He is tied for the MIAA lead in scoring with nine touchdowns (54 points), which includes seven rushing touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, Makel Williams&nbsp;was named the MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week for a career-high 14 tackles in the win over Central Missouri last week. He continues to lead the MIAA in tackles this season, now with 53. He averages 8.8 per game. The Williams combo on defense (no immediate relation), which includes Benyon Williams,&nbsp;both have exactly 214 tackles in their careers. Makel has all of his tackles at FHSU, while Benyon played his first three years at North Carolina Wesleyan.

Both John Johnson (189) and Mason Perez&nbsp;(183) are nearing 200 tackles in their careers as well. Myles Menges&nbsp;leads the Tigers with 4.0 sacks for the season, while Sam Brandt&nbsp;leads in interceptions with two.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Tiger offense put on a show throughout the match for an impressive 5-1 victory. The win moved FHSU to 6-3-1 overall, 2-2 in GAC play, while Harding fell to 0-8-3 overall, 0-5 in conference matches.

OAKLEY – The TMP-Marian Monarchs rallied from down two
touchdowns in the fourth quarter to beat the Oakley Plainsmen Friday night
28-20 and move into a tie for first place in the district with two weeks left
in the regular season.

Oakley Plainsmen got on the board first, taking advantage of
a roughing the punter penalty after it looked like the Monarchs had forced a
three-and-out to start the game. Oakley scored on a 25-yard touchdown run and
led 7-0 with just over seven minutes left in the first quarter.

The TMP offense struggled to get going for most of the night,
punting on three of its first four drives and turning the ball over on downs twice.


After the Monarchs' first three-and-out, Carson Liles pinned
Oakley inside the four and on third down, Caden Dinkel intercepted a pass and
returned it 12 yards for a touchdown cutting Oakley’s lead to 7-6 with just
under four minutes and thirty seconds left in the first quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, Oakley put together a
12-play touchdown drive, capped off by a one-yard touchdown run, making it
13-6.

Both teams moved the ball in the third quarter, but the
score remained 13-6 until Oakley’s broke on the scoreboard with just over 10 minutes
left, scoring a one-yard touchdown run for a 20-6 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, the team got a great kickoff by
Adler Brown to their 47-yard line. Four plays later, they scored on a 32-yard
touchdown pass from Liles to Jacob Seib. The same two connected on the
two-point conversion as the Monarchs cut the deficit to 20-14 with 9:20 left in
the game.

An Oakley fumble near midfield gave the Monarchs the ball
back with less than eight minutes left, and they again proceeded to drive down
the field on a 10-play drive, converting on a fourth-and-16 and a third-and-21 before
Liles scored on a nine-yard touchdown run, tying the game at 20.

The Monarchs lined up to kick the extra point, and on a bad
snap, Liles picked up the pass,&nbsp;his pass was deflected by a TMP player and
ended up in Brown’s hands for an improbable two-point conversion to put TMP up
22-20 with just over three and a half to play.

Oakley fumbled on their next offensive possession deep in
their territory, and Liles capped off a short scoring drive with a little
more than two minutes to play, putting TMP up 28-20. TMP would go on to win by
that score.

TMP’s Carson Liles completed 15-of-25 passes for 182 yards
and added two rushing touchdowns. Jacob Seib hauled in six receptions for
88 yards, and Issac Purington added five catches for 70 yards.

TMP improves to 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in district play.

Oakley drops to 2-4, and they are also 2-1 in the district.

TMP hosts Syracuse next Friday at 6 p.m. at Lewis
Field in Hays.

🏈Second half rally leads Monarchs past Oakley Plainsmen

Hays High hosted Dodge City for Homecoming on Friday night. The Indians were looking for their first home win of the season.

Dodge City held the ball on the game's opening drive for nearly four minutes before punting the ball away. Hays took over on their own 40 and had possession for the next 7:05. The drive took 15 plays and resulted in a one yard fourth down touchdown plunge by quarterback Carter Graham. The Indians converted on fourth down three times on the drive and third down once. The extra point missed.

The Indian defense gave up a 51 yard pass play in the second quarter but ran down the receiver just shy of the 10 yard line. That proved to be a big moment as Dodge City missed a 26 yard field goal to end the drive, leaving the score 6-0 at halftime.

Like the game before in Junction City, Hays found their rhythm in the second half. The Indians took the opening drive of the second half six plays and 59 yards for a touchdown. Ian McGuire opened the half with a 40 yard kick off return and then finished the drive with a one yard score. Between those to plays Graham hit Johnny Cano for a 54 yard pass on third down. The extra point pushed the Hays lead to 13-0.

The Hays defense forced a punt after three plays and the Indian offense again kicked into gear. A nine play 69 yard drive was capped off when Graham hit Cano for a five yard score and 19-0 lead.

Dodge City threatened to score in the fourth quarter. The Red Demons got the ball inside of the one yard line but backed themselves up on penalties to the 15 yard line and then was sacked for a six yard loss. The Hays defense held on downs to preserve the shutout.

Hays took the ensuing possession 85 yards through eight plays and Holden Lind scored for the first time on a 14 yard score for the final of 26-0. Both Lind and McGuire went of 100 yards on the evening while Graham threw for 103.

Cooper Lindenmeyer forced a fumble which he recovered and then intercepted a pass.

Hays shuts out Dodge City for the first time since 2003. The Indians have won the last five games over Dodge City, the second longest streak for Hays in the series.

The Tigers struggled out of the gate, quickly falling behind by seven, 9-2. Three kills from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/grace-schmedding/8180">Grace Schmedding</a>&nbsp;helped FHSU score five of the next six points to close within three, 10-7, before the Ichabods rattled off four in a row to go back up seven. The teams traded points over the next several rallies before Washburn scored three in a row to turn a 22-22 tie into a 25-22 win.

The visitors started to pull away early in the second set, eventually leading by as many as 10, 22-12. Fort Hays State wouldn't go down without a fight, however, scoring the next five points and eight of the next nine to close within three, 23-20. Olson fueled the run with three kills and one assisted block alongside Lovesee. Washburn managed to thwart the Tiger momentum, taking the frame 25-21 before pulling away to take the third set, 25-15.

EMPORIA, Kan. - The Fort Hays State men's cross country team placed five runners in the top seven Friday at the Emporia State Invitational, helping the Tigers to their second team victory of the season. FHSU racked up 18 team points in the process, 41 points in front of second-place Central Missouri.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-cross-country/roster/christian-darrah/8164">Christian Darrah</a>&nbsp;led the Tigers to the line, placing second with a time of 26:10.8 in the eight-kilometer race.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-cross-country/roster/jaret-pfizenmaier/8157">Jaret Pfizenmaier</a>&nbsp;placed third out of 48 finishers, crossing the line in 27:00.5.<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-cross-country/roster/cole-krug/8165">Cole Krug</a>&nbsp;finished in fifth place, turning in a time of 27:23.8.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-cross-country/roster/brady-conway/8163">Brady Conway</a>&nbsp;completed the trek in 27:31.1, placing sixth, with&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-cross-country/roster/chayse-mccullough/8385">Chayse McCullough</a>&nbsp;close behind in seventh after traversing the course in 27:39.9.

Competing unattached, Siyabonga Mokgothu&nbsp;won the race in 25:42.2.

The Tigers will next compete on Saturday, October 26 when they travel to St. Joseph, Mo. for the 2024 MIAA Championships. The men's eight-kilometer championship is slated to begin at 10 a.m.

🏃‍♂️ FHSU men win Emporia State Invitational

EDMOND, Okla. – Fort Hays State fell to Central Oklahoma by a score of 5-2 on Friday afternoon in an MIAA contest. An early red card on the Tigers aided the Bronchos in having an offensive advantage for the majority of the contest. FHSU moved to 5-3-3 overall and 2-2-1 in the MIAA, while UCO improved to 5-4-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the MIAA.

Central Oklahoma scored its first goal 21 minutes into the match when a ball saved by Tiger keeper&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/mackenzie-caldwell/8128">Mackenzie Caldwell</a>&nbsp;rebounded perfectly to Jada Ryan of UCO right in front of an open net. About nine minutes later, UCO had a breakaway opportunity and their player was tripped up by Caldwell in the box in a 1-on-1 situation. The officials decided to issue a red card for the foul, which denied the goal-scoring chance for the Bronchos. With the foul,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/tatum-hoge/8087">Tatum Hoge</a>&nbsp;entered the game at goalkeeper and FHSU had to play a player down the final 60 minutes of the match.

Madison Linavong of UCO cashed in the penalty kick and then Tatum Tallal added a goal in the 34th&nbsp;minute, helping push the lead to 3-0 by halftime.

Even being a player down the rest of the match, the Tigers showed enough grit to score twice on the Bronchos. UCO went up 4-0 after a Becca Tweedy goal in the 47th&nbsp;minute, but&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/taylor-hill/8126">Taylor Hill</a>&nbsp;responded a minute later with a goal off a long pass from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/laila-cook/8080">Laila Cook</a>. Twedy scored another goal in the 52nd&nbsp;minute, but the Tigers countered again with a&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/sydney-cotter/8104">Sydney Cotter</a>&nbsp;goal shot from outside the box in the 61st&nbsp;minute.

The Tigers had seven saves overall in the match, three by Hoge in relief and Caldwell with four in the early going. All eight shots for FHSU in the contest were on goal.

The Tigers look to shake off their unfortunate break on Sunday when they play host to Newman University at 2 p.m. in Hays at FHSU Soccer Stadium.&nbsp;&nbsp;
