LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Head Coach Lance Leipold announced the addition of six scholarship players to the Kansas Football program on Wednesday and eight total newcomers to the squad.

The Jayhawks added a pair of offensive linemen in Joey Baker (Southlake, Texas) and James Livingston (Dexter, Mich.), quarterback Ethan Vasko (Chesapeake, Va.), tight end Tevita Noa (Salt Lake City, Utah), and safeties Kaleb Purdy (St. Louis, Mo.) and Mason Ellis (Mulvane, Kan.).

Leipold also announced the additions of offensive lineman Kael Farkes (Lenexa, Kan.) and placekicker Grant Glasgow (Lawrence, Kan.) to the program.

Wednesday’s additions to the 2022 signing class are the first of a group that will expand in the coming months, as there is also a NCAA signing period in February.

Fort Hays State tight end&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6130">Hunter Budke</a>&nbsp;added another All-America honor to his collection for the 2021 season on Tuesday. After receiving first team honors at tight end from the AFCA, Budke received the same honors from the D2CCA. The D2CCA All-America Team is voted on by Sports Information/Athletic Communication Directors throughout NCAA Division II. Budke was one of the top receiving tight ends in the nation in 2021, finishing with 47 receptions for 620 yards and eight touchdowns. He twice had over 100 receiving yards in a game in 2021 with nine catches for 122 yards as his season high at Missouri Western. He produced four or more receptions in seven of 11 contests and led the Tigers in receiving touchdowns for the season. Budke ranked eighth in the MIAA in receptions per game, all among a top 10 list that only included wide receivers aside from him. He was fourth in the MIAA in receiving touchdowns, only behind a trio of All-MIAA wide receivers that had 10 each. He finished 14th&nbsp;in receiving yards overall in the conference, the best among tight ends. Fort Hays State has now had at least one individual football player earn multiple All-America honors in the same year for the last six seasons going back to 2015. Oakley – The TMP-Marian Monarchs boys and girls basketball
teams took to the road for the first time this season and earned a doubleheader
sweep of the Oakley Plainsmen Tuesday in Oakley.

Girls: TMP 48, Oakley 23 The Lady Monarchs opened the game on a 13-2 run and Sophia
Balthazor led TMP with 18 points as they picked up a 48-23 win
over the Plainsmen.

Emilee Lane scored the first two buckets for TMP (3-2, 2-0 MCL)  and Balthazor
added her first of four three-pointers in the game as the Monarchs raced out to
a 9-0 first quarter lead.

They held Oakley&nbsp;(2-3, 0-2 MCL) to just one field goal in the first half
and led 13-2 after one quarter of play.

Oakley outscored TMP in the second quarter 9-5 as the
Monarchs took an 18-11 lead into the halftime break.

The Monarchs offense came to life in that third quarter, outscoring
Oakley 18-7 as TMP built a 36-18 lead.

The first quarter was more of the same for the TMP defense
which held Oakley to a pair of late field goals as the Monarchs went on to the
48-23 win.

Balthazor’s 18 points led all scorers. Emilee Lane added 11
points and eight rebounds as they Monarchs earn their second straight win. They
will host Stockton on Friday.

Boys: TMP 68, Oakley 40 In the TMP boys final action before the holiday break they
had three guys score in double-figures, led by the career-highs of 14 points
for Kade Harris and 13 points for Kenton Ginther as they earned a 68-40 win.

After Dylan Werth gave TMP (3-2, 2-0 MCL) an early 2-0 lead
Oakley got back-to-back field goals to take a 4-2 lead. Oakley’s final lead was
a 4-3 following a Ginther free throw.

The Ginther free throw sparked a 12-2 run that put TMP up
14-6 after Luke Rome converted a three-point play late in the first quarter.

Oakley (1-4, 0-2 MCL) was able to cut the TMP lead to six to
open the second quarter but a quick 9-0 run put TMP up 28-13.

Three pointers from Andrew Schwartz and Ginther, his at the
buzzer at the end of the first half put TMP up 37-19 at the break.

TMP outscored Oakley 16-8 in the third quarter and maintained
the lead on their way to the 68-40 win.

Harris’ 14 lead the Monarchs. Ginther’s 13 points gave him a
new career-high in back-to-back nights. Werth scored 13 points in his second game
back from a broken foot.

The TMP boys are off until Jan. 7 when they host Sacred
Heart.

🏀TMP basketball teams pick up a pair of wins in Oakley

Hays High hosted Hoisington Tuesday night in their final home game of 2021.

Hays High held Hoisington to just one field goal and two free throws in the first half and were never threatened on their way to a 49-24 win Tuesday night. Hoisington led just once at 2-0 less than a minute into the game.&nbsp;

Hays led 6-4 after one quarter before hold the Cardinals scoreless for the entire second quarter. The Indians' defense allowed Hays to build a 17-4 halftime lead.

Hays built their advantage to 17 early in the third quarter before trading baskets with Hoisington. The Indians closed the quarter on a 6-0 run for a 35-16 advantage.

Hays led by as many as 27 in the fourth quarter before winning by 25.

Jersey Johnson and Molly Martin each scored eleven in the game. Jillyan Sheldon scored in double figures for the first time in thirteen career games with ten points.

Hays evens their record at 2-2. Hoisington falls to 3-2.

It was a struggle, but Hays High was able to get their third win of the season over Hoisington 47-30 Tuesday night. The first half featured 21 total points. The Cardinals led Hays with 11 of those points.&nbsp;

The Indians never led and never tied the game in the first two quarters.

The second half was a little more normal for the Indians shooting 55% from the field and making 11 of 12 free throws to score 37 points. Jace Linenberger gave the Indians their first lead of the night with a pair of free throws early in the third quarter on his way to a game high 18 points.

Hays led by eight after three quarter when Noah Weimer went coast-to-coast to beat the buzzer with a layup at 29-21. Hoisington cut the Hays lead from double figures several times early in the fourth quarter. The Indians though closed the game on a 12-4 run for a 47-30 final.

Hays improves to 3-1 on the season and are ranked #9 in 5A. Hoisington drops to 3-2. The Indians travel to Liberal on Friday to open Western Athletic Conference play.&nbsp;

The Tigers jump in at No. 23 in that poll, while they are the first team in the receiving votes list outside the NABC Top 25. This is the first time since the 2015-16 season the Tigers have been in the Top 25 of the D2SIDA Poll. They spent one week in the poll at No. 24, jumping in the rankings on December 1 and then falling out on December 8 after going 0-2 that week. That was the only other time the Tigers have been ranked in the D2SIDA Top 25, since the poll has only been in place since the 2014-15 season. KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After reaching the national quarterfinals for the fifth time in nine consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, Fort Hays State Men's Soccer finishes the year ranked No. 7 in the final United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll released on Tuesday (Dec. 14). The No. 7 ranking marks the highest for the Tigers for the 2021 season. FHSU's previous high in the rankings this season was No. 15 from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4. However, the Tigers surge all the way from the receiving votes section in the poll to No. 7 thanks to another successful run in the NCAA Tournament. As the No. 6 seed in Super Region 3, the Tigers knocked off No. 3 seed Wisconsin-Parkside and No. 2 seed Lake Erie to reach the national quarterfinals where they fell to No. 1 seed Indianapolis. The Tigers finished their year at 15-6-2 overall, generating their second-most wins in a season in program's still young 11-year history. Cooper</a>&nbsp;has been named the latest MIAA Wrestler of the Week, announced Tuesday (Dec. 14) by the league office. The Cimmaron, Kan. native finished a perfect 5-0 on the day, including three wins over Division II opponents and two wins against ranked wrestlers. He opened the day with a 4-2 decision against the fifth-ranked wrestler in NJCAA before defeating an NAIA wrestler 3-0 in the round of 16. Cooper then cruised past a Nebraska-Kearney heavyweight with a 7-0 decision to reach the semifinals, where he defeated a Central Oklahoma wrestler in sudden victory, 2-1. Cooper saved the best for last, pinning the sixth-ranked wrestler in Division II in 4:11 to take the title. Cooper has accumulated a 19-4 record so far this season, including eight bonus-point wins and three pins. He has placed in all four tournaments in which he has competed. This is Cooper's third weekly conference honor in his career, including one such honor each of the last three seasons. 🤼 Cooper named MIAA Athlete of the Week

After dropping its first game of the season Saturday, the Fort Hays State women's basketball team dipped to fifth in this week's WBCA Division II Coaches Poll and to 14th in the latest D2SIDA Media Poll, both released Tuesday The Tigers (7-1, 2-1 MIAA) still picked up one first-place vote in the coaches poll and remain the top-ranked MIAA team in the poll. FHSU is tied with Alaska Anchorage in the fifth spot with 433 points, 102 behind top-ranked Lubbock Christian. Nebraska-Kearney is the only other conference school recognized in the poll, coming in 12th this week. Fort Hays State is one of three MIAA programs listed in the D2SIDA Media Poll, with UNK slotted seventh and Missouri Western, the lone undefeated team in the league at 8-0, just in front of the Tigers in 13th. Alaska Anchorage tops the media poll for the fourth week in a row. The Tigers are 15-4 all-time when ranked fifth in the DII coaches poll. FHSU has played more games while ranked fifth than any other spot in the top 25. The Tigers last played as the fifth-ranked team in the country during the final week of the 2020-21 regular season and the 2021 MIAA Championship Tournament. FHSU posted a 4-1 record as the fifth-ranked team last season. Fort Hays State wraps up the semester with three home games in four days later this week, beginning with a Friday contest against Central Oklahoma beginning at 5:30 p.m.

After dropping its first game of the season Saturday, the Fort Hays State women's basketball team dipped to fifth in this week's WBCA Division II Coaches Poll and to 14th in the latest D2SIDA Media Poll, both released Tuesday The Tigers (7-1, 2-1 MIAA) still picked up one first-place vote in the coaches poll and remain the top-ranked MIAA team in the poll. FHSU is tied with Alaska Anchorage in the fifth spot with 433 points, 102 behind top-ranked Lubbock Christian. Nebraska-Kearney is the only other conference school recognized in the poll, coming in 12th this week. Fort Hays State is one of three MIAA programs listed in the D2SIDA Media Poll, with UNK slotted seventh and Missouri Western, the lone undefeated team in the league at 8-0, just in front of the Tigers in 13th. Alaska Anchorage tops the media poll for the fourth week in a row. The Tigers are 15-4 all-time when ranked fifth in the DII coaches poll. FHSU has played more games while ranked fifth than any other spot in the top 25. The Tigers last played as the fifth-ranked team in the country during the final week of the 2020-21 regular season and the 2021 MIAA Championship Tournament. FHSU posted a 4-1 record as the fifth-ranked team last season. 🏀 Tiger women fifth in latest DII Coaches Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs was placed in the COVID-19 protocol on Tuesday, one day after wide receiver Josh Gordon tested positive and two days before a crucial game against the Chargers.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid wasn't sure whether either player will be available when the AFC West-leading Chiefs visit Los Angeles on Thursday night. If a player is vaccinated and tests positive, he needs two negative tests taken 24 hours apart to return to the team, which means it's conceivable that Gordon and Jones could be cleared by kickoff.

The Chiefs lead the Chargers by one game in the division race, but already have lost to them once.

“We try to talk to them at least once a week about (COVID-19 protocols),” Reid said Tuesday. “It seems like it's every day, but it's probably once or twice a week that we remind them about it — who you hang with, where you go.”

The NFL sent a memo to teams Monday, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press, that announced vaccinated coaches, front-office staff and team personnel would need to receive a booster shot by Dec. 27. The memo said the decision was made due to “the increased prevalence of the virus in our communities.”

The mandate doesn’t apply to players because discussions with the NFL Players Association are ongoing.

“I've done it,” Reid said of receiving the booster shot. “I always let the guys know where I'm at with it. It's not because I'm old, but because with the numbers out there the booster seems to be helping.”

The NFL said that 37 players tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, making it one of the worst days for the league since the pandemic began. The list included 26 players on active rosters and 11 on practice squads, and such notable names as Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey and Giants wide receiver Kadarius Toney.

“When you're down the stretch run you have to take it serious,” Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said, "because you want to be available. It's just like any injury you would get at this point. You want to do whatever you can to be available to the team. Whether that's distancing in the locker room or with your family, we understand it's part of the world.

“Do the best you can to help yourself and help the guy next to you so that you can be available.”

The Chiefs have had fewer players on the COVID-19 list than just about any team. The only regular is All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu, who tested positive and missed the season opener. Backup wide receiver Marcus Kemp was on the list for 11 days in November and tight end Joey Fortson, who is already on injured reserve, was added to the list last Friday.

It's unclear whether Gordon and Jones were close contacts of Fortson, who had been attending team meetings while on IR.

“You want to put yourself in the same mindset you did a year ago,” Mathieu said. “You get to the back end of the season, you don't want to be one of those guys that's not available. That's the most important thing. This is a big game for us, and every game from here on out has a lot on the line for us. You have to do everything in your power to stay available.”

In other news, Chiefs cornerback L'Jarius Sneed was returning to Kansas City on Tuesday after missing last week's win over the Raiders to be with his grieving family. His oldest brother, T’Qarontarion Harrison, was killed last week in a stabbing in their hometown of Minden, Louisiana.

Police there say a woman, Angela Washington, has been charged with second-degree homicide in the case.

“He actually texted. He told me he loved me. That was all I really needed to hear,” Mathieu said. “He's dealing with a lot right now, but football means a lot to him. It means a lot to his family. In my opinion, and the things I've been through, he has some motivation going forward. He's one of those guys that will capitalize off this.”

🏀 KBCA releases Dec. 14 rankings

The NFL is requiring players, coaches and other team personnel to receive a COVID-19 booster by Dec. 27.

In a memo sent to teams on Monday and obtained by The Associated Press, the league said: “Given the increased prevalence of the virus in our communities, our experts have recommended that we implement the CDC’s recommendation.”

The league’s requirement extends to all Tier 1 and Tier 2 individuals who have previously received the vaccine. The CDC recommends an individual who received a second Pfizer or Moderna shot to complete the primary vaccine series more than six months earlier should receive a booster shot. An individual that received the Johnson and Johnson shot more than two months earlier should receive a booster shot.

The following do not have to meet the requirement:

—An individual who is not eligible for a booster pursuant to the CDC definition.

—An individual who is in the 90-day test holiday after a confirmed positive COVID-19 test

—An individual who received monoclonal antibodies within the immediately preceding 90

—An individual whose “S” antibody level on an antibody test administered via BRL (BioReference Lab) at the club facility is 2500 or greater.

The league says any individual who is not currently subject to the requirement for boosters will be required to obtain the booster within 14 days of becoming eligible.

Teams were asked to provide booster shots to all eligible tiered staff as soon as possible, and to consider making booster shots available for player and staff families and cohabitants.

A season-high total of 36 players were placed on the COVID-19/reserve list Monday.

NFL sets deadline for COVID-19 booster shots 

KANSAS- The Kansas Shrine Bowl Board
of Directors would like to announce the assistant coaches for the 2022 Kansas
Shrine Bowl. The assistant coaches are chosen based on the success of their
season, as well as eligibility limitations and coach availability. The coaching
staff for the 49th Annual Kansas Shrine Bowl features 14 of the most
talented and respected coaches in the state. The 49th Annual Kansas
Shrine Bowl will be played at Carnie Smith Stadium, on the campus of Pittsburg
State University, on Saturday, July 23rd, 2022, at 7 p.m.

The 2022 Head
Coaches, announced earlier this year, are Basehor-Linwood’s Rod Stallbaumer for
the East and Wichita Collegiate’s Troy Black, leading the West. &nbsp;

The Assistant
coaches for the East team are Clint Rider (6A – Blue Valley Northwest), Jason
Feeback (5A – Spring Hill), Rick Pollard (4A – Piper), Neal Philpot (3A –
Girard), Derick Hammes (2A – Rossville) and Jeff Schneider (1A – Jefferson
County North). The East coaching staff had a combined record of 66-12 in 2021,
including State Championships from Rider and Hammes. The East staff has a
combined six Kansas Shrine Bowl coaching appearances, Derick Hammes served as
an assistant in 2016 and returned to lead the East in 2017. Rod Stallbaumer is
at the helm of the East for the second time, after serving as the Head Coach in
2009 while at Lyndon. Stallbaumer also assisted the East in 2008, 2014, and
2021. The East coaches also include two former players, Derick Hammes (1989
East, Nemaha Valley) and Neal Philpot (2000 West – Norton). 

"One of
the best things about coaching in the Shrine Bowl is the opportunity to work
alongside and learn from a great staff of coaches.&nbsp; I know each personally
and I couldn't be more excited to work with them,” said East Head Coach Rod
Stallbaumer. “They have been exceptional leaders of their own programs, are men
of high character and will do an excellent job leading our East squad this
summer!"

Assistant
coaches for the West team are Ene Akpan (6A – Wichita East), Tony Crough (5A –
Hays), Steve Warner (4A – Buhler), Jordan Echer (3A – Concordia), Brad Gober
(2A – Beloit) and Lance Sawyer (1A – Inman). &nbsp;The West Coaching staff had
a combined 62-19 record in 2021, including two State Runner-Up finishes in
Beloit and Inman. The staff also has a combined four Kansas Shrine Bowl coaching

All Shrine Bowl
events are produced and presented to benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children,
now known as Shriners Children’s.&nbsp; Shriners Children’s offers care for a
range of orthopedic issues, as well as care for burn injuries, craniofacial
conditions, spine care and spinal cord injuries, colorectal and
gastrointestinal care, and sports medicine. Children up to the age of 18 are
eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment,
regardless of the patients' ability to pay. The 49th Annual Kansas
Shrine Bowl will be played at Carnie Smith Stadium, on the campus of Pittsburg
State University, on Saturday, July 23rd, 2022 at 7 p.m.

The Kansas
Shrine Bowl is an all-star high school senior, East vs. West, football game put
on each year in Kansas, by the Kansas Shrine. It is a 501(c) 3 non-profit
charity that produces annual events and related activities, with net proceeds
benefiting Shriners Children’s. The Kansas Shrine Bowl has sent over $3M to
Shriners Hospitals for Children.

The game has
been played throughout Kansas each summer since 1974. Host cities have included
Lawrence, Manhattan, Wichita, Topeka, Hays, Emporia, Pittsburg, Dodge City and
Hutchinson.&nbsp; 

Beginning in
1974, the flagship event has been the East/West All-Star Football Game. As of
2021, the West leads the series with 30 wins, the East has 17 wins, and there
has been one tie. Current NFL alumni include Cody Whitehair (Chicago Bears),
B.J. Finney (Pittsburgh Steelers), Wyatt Hubert (Cincinnati Bengals), and
Deante Burton (Dallas Cowboys). Additional notable alumni include former
All-Pro Wide Receiver Jordy Nelson, former All-Pro NFL Defensive Back Terrance
Newman, NFL Hall of Famer Barry Sanders, former Kansas State and Kansas City

Kansas Shrine BowlKANSAS- The Kansas Shrine Bowl Board
of Directors would like to announce the assistant coaches for the 2022 Kansas
Shrine Bowl. The assistant coaches are chosen based on the success of their
season, as well as eligibility limitations and coach availability. The coaching
staff for the 49th Annual Kansas Shrine Bowl features 14 of the most
talented and respected coaches in the state. The 49th Annual Kansas
Shrine Bowl will be played at Carnie Smith Stadium, on the campus of Pittsburg
State University, on Saturday, July 23rd, 2022, at 7 p.m. The 2022 Head
Coaches, announced earlier this year, are Basehor-Linwood’s Rod Stallbaumer for
the East and Wichita Collegiate’s Troy Black, leading the West. &nbsp;The Assistant
coaches for the East team are Clint Rider (6A – Blue Valley Northwest), Jason
Feeback (5A – Spring Hill), Rick Pollard (4A – Piper), Neal Philpot (3A –
Girard), Derick Hammes (2A – Rossville) and Jeff Schneider (1A – Jefferson
County North). The East coaching staff had a combined record of 66-12 in 2021,
including State Championships from Rider and Hammes. The East staff has a
combined six Kansas Shrine Bowl coaching appearances, Derick Hammes served as
an assistant in 2016 and returned to lead the East in 2017. Rod Stallbaumer is
at the helm of the East for the second time, after serving as the Head Coach in
2009 while at Lyndon. Stallbaumer also assisted the East in 2008, 2014, and
2021. The East coaches also include two former players, Derick Hammes (1989
East, Nemaha Valley) and Neal Philpot (2000 West – Norton). "One of
the best things about coaching in the Shrine Bowl is the opportunity to work
alongside and learn from a great staff of coaches.&nbsp; I know each personally
and I couldn't be more excited to work with them,” said East Head Coach Rod
Stallbaumer. “They have been exceptional leaders of their own programs, are men
of high character and will do an excellent job leading our East squad this

DENVER (AP) — The Denver Broncos honored the memory of Demaryius Thomas with tributes, decals and a 38-10 walloping of the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
