GREAT BEND -&nbsp;The Hays High girls’ golf team won the Great
Bend Invitational by 27 strokes Tuesday at the Stoneridge Country Club. The Indians placed six in the top-10 with the
top-four scores counting towards the team total in the nine hole event.

Abbie Norris was top medalists with a
39 one shot better than Katie Dinkel who finishes second. Taleia shot a 42 and placed fourth. Jaycee Oakley was seventh with a 44.

The Indians are the Western Athletic Conference champs which is determined through a compilation of each of the five school's own tournaments.&nbsp;

Katie Dinkel is the WAC Player of the Year and Mark Watts the WAC Coach of the Year.

Dinkel is joined on the all-conference team by Abbie Norris and Evyn Cox. Taleia McCrae, Claire Humphrey and Jaycee Oakley are honorable mention.

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State volleyball team fell short against No. 14 Nebraska-Kearney on Tuesday, losing in three sets to the Lopers (15-25, 11-25, 9-25). The Tigers are now 8-8 on the year and 2-5 in conference play, while UNK moves to 13-3 overall and 4-3 in league action.

Fort Hays State trailed by four early in the first set before scoring three in a row to narrow the gap to 11-10. The Lopers thwarted the rally by scoring three-straight points of their own, going back in front by four, 14-10.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6208">Claire Olson</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6106">Emily Ellis</a>&nbsp;then combined on a block to return serve to the Tigers, but UNK followed with a 9-1 run to extend a double-digit lead, 23-12. An Ellis kill on the first rally of the second set gave the Tigers a momentary lead, but the Lopers used timely defense and a strong attacking core to keep FHSU at bay the rest of the evening. The tournament was held at the Golf Club of Edmond, a par-71, 5,804-yard layout. The Tigers opened the tournament with a team score of 335 on Monday, sitting in 19th place, before improving by 20 shots to a score of 315 in round two. It was tied for the second-best improvement among any of the 20 teams. Fort Hays State finished the tournament strong, playing the last nine holes in a combined 10-over par. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6389">Kira Mestl</a>&nbsp;led the team in the first round with a 5-over 76, the third-best round of her collegiate career. De La Torre generated a total of six points for the week with two goals and two assists. De La Torre scored the first goal of the match in a 7-1 win over Ouachita Baptist, then provided assists on the fourth and fifth goals for the Tigers. He had the equalizer goal in the 72nd minute against Harding, but FHSU went on to fall 2-1 as Harding scored with less than two minutes remaining in the match. For the season, De La Torre has three goals and three assists. He joins Kazuki Okazaki of Southern Nazarene (Defender of the Week) and Nick Foederer of Harding (Goalkeeper of the Week) as the weekly honorees from the GAC office.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Chiefs signed Gordon to the practice squad last week with the assumption that he would join the active roster when he learned enough of the playbook. 

He had just been reinstated by the NFL following his sixth suspension for violations of NFL policies. 

The Chiefs hope his size and athleticism provide another option alongside Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce in their passing offense.

The class going in to the Hall of Fame this fall was scheduled to be inducted in 2020, but the annual ceremony was pushed to this year due to complications with the COVID-19 pandemic. The inductees going into the Hall of Fame this year include David McLeland (Track &amp; Field, 1968-71), JR Hartig (Football, 1977-80), Richard Lowe (Football, 1982-83), Edgar Eason (Men's Basketball, 1983-85), Trevell Smittick (Wrestling, 1996-2000), and Jesus Villarreal (Baseball, 1999-2000). The induction ceremony will take place the morning of Saturday, October 30 inside the Memorial Union on the campus of Fort Hays State University. Registration for the invitation only event begins at 8:30 am and the ceremony begins at 9:30 am. The new Hall of Fame class will then be recognized publicly at halftime of the Fort Hays State vs. Emporia State football game, which begins at 1 pm. David McLeland - Track and Field/Cross Country (1968-71) David McLeland, native of Great Bend, Kansas, was the 3000-meter steeplechase national champion in 1971, running a time of 9:26.6. McLeland was the second of three consecutive national champions in the event for FHSU. Larbi Oukada was the national champion in the event in 1970 and Jim Birnbaum won the event in 1972 (both are in the Tiger Sports Hall of Fame as well). McLeland was also the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference champion in 1971 and the runner-up in the event as a freshman and sophomore in 1968 and 1969. He helped the 1970 cross country team to a national runner-up finish and was a member of the 1969 national championship team, contributing to the team scoring in multiple events though he did not run at the national meet. He contributed to a fifth-place finish for the team at the 1967 cross country championships. He was the runner-up at the NAIA District 10 meet for cross country in the fall of 1971. McLeland went on to serve 27 years in the U.S. Army Reserves and was deployed to Iraq in 1990-91. As a high school coach, he has been recognized as the Kansas Class 4A and 2A Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year. JR Hartig - Football (1977-80) JR Hartig, native of Ellinwood, Kan., was one of the top linebackers in school history, earning NAIA All-America Honorable Mention honors in 1979 as a junior. Hartig set the school record for tackles in a season with 150 in 1979, which stood for 32 years until 2011 when Alex Whitehill recorded 164. Hartig also recorded 125 tackles as a senior in 1980. Hartig finished his four-year career from 1977-80 with 379 tackles. He was a three-time all-conference performer and a two-time all-district performer. He signed a free agent deal with the Miami Dolphins following his senior season. Richard Lowe - Football (1982-83) Richard Lowe, native of Lubbock, Texas, played football at Fort Hays State from 1982-83 after transferring from New Mexico Military Institute. Lowe was an All-America Honorable Mention selection as an offensive lineman in 1983 and a two-time All-District 10 and All-CSIC First Team selection. The Tigers had a record of 14-6-1 overall in his two seasons on the field, while he helped protect All-America quarterback Robert Long in 1983 who threw for a then school-record 2,600 yards. He helped the Tigers go 8-3 overall in 1983, which tied the program's single-season record for wins at the time. Lowe helped the Tigers set single-season school records in pass completions (190) and passing yards per game (247.5). Edgar Eason - Men's Basketball (1983-85) Edgar Eason, native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, played basketball at Fort Hays State from 1983-1985. Transferring to FHSU for the second semester of the 1983-84 season from Southern Mississippi, Eason provided an instant impact as the team's second-leading scorer at 13.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. He helped the team finish 35-2 overall, winning the national semifinal and final games in overtime by just two points over Chicago State and Wisconsin-Stevens Point. As a senior in 1984-85, Eason averaged 19.6 points and 5.7 rebounds per game to help the Tigers go 35-3 overall, earning not only All-America First Team honors, but also the MVP of the NAIA Championship. Eason scored a career-high 32 points in his final game as a Tiger, helping the team win another overtime thriller by two points over Wayland Baptist for their second-straight NAIA title. Eason set FHSU single-season records for total points (745), field goals made (322), and field goals attempted (601) during his senior year. Even in just three semesters played at FHSU, Eason scored 1,134 points, one of 22 1,000-point scorers in the program's storied history. Trevell Smittick - Wrestling/Football (1996-2000) Trevell Smittick, a native of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, was a standout two-sport athlete at Fort Hays State, competing in wrestling and football. Smittick was a two-time All-American at 197 pounds in wrestling finishing 6th in 1999 as a junior, then was the national runner-up in 2000 as a senior. To reach the national championship match in 2000, Smittick recorded three straight decisions, winning the quarterfinal match by sudden victory in overtime and then the semifinal match by one point. He helped the team to a 9th place finish at the NCAA Championships with his performance. Over four years with the program, Smittick won 70 matches, recording at least 16 victories each season after playing football each fall. He was a tremendous player on the defensive line for the Tigers in football, setting the single-season school record for sacks in 1998 with 12, while also producing 50 tackles (including 18 for loss). He earned All-West Region honors that year. As a senior in 1999, Smittick finished with 52 tackles (18 for loss for a second straight season) along with 8.5 sacks. He set the career record for sacks at FHSU with 21.5, only matched by All-America defensive end Sie Doe 17 years later in 2016. Doe broke Smittick's single-season record in 2016. Smittick finished his four-year career with 115 tackles and 37 tackles for loss (ranks 3rd in career tackles for loss at FHSU). Jesus Villarreal - Baseball (1999-2000) A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Villarreal was an All-America Third Team selection in 2000 as a senior at second base, while also garnering RMAC Player of the Year honors. He was a two-time All-RMAC selection and was an All-West Region selection his senior year after transferring from Cochise College. He helped the Tigers to their best season in program history, finishing national runner-up in 2000 with a record of 54-12. He was also named to the All-World Series Team that year, hitting .438 at the national championship site. An outstanding defensive player with a career fielding percentage of .987 (just 6 errors in 451 chances over two years), Villarreal had a great senior year at the plate finishing with a .393 batting average, 32 extra-base hits (24 doubles, 6 triples, 2 home runs), 71 runs scored, 44 runs batted in, and 13 stolen bases. He had 94 hits in 2000, which ranked second most for a season in program history at the time. The Indians Lilly Garrison was fifth with a 97. Aspen Melvin
finished 14th with a 103. Meg Taggart and Gracie Wente finished in a

Ella Brummer was eighth for TMP with a 100. Her teammate

Down 21-0 at halftime, Fuller led the Tigers on six-straight touchdown drives in the second half to get past the Lopers. The Tigers were a perfect 6-of-6 scoring touchdowns on full-length drives in the second half as their final touch of the ball was a kneel down to run out the clock. Fuller finished with 345 passing yards and three touchdowns, while adding 38 rushing yards to finish with 383 yards of total offense in the game. He was exceptional in the second half going 13-of-16 passing for 239 yards, with 30 of his 38 rushing yards. He shares Offensive Player of the Week honors this week with Logan Twehous, quarterback for Central Missouri who threw for 405 yards and five touchdowns in a win over Northeastern State. Soto continues to be a do-it-all player for FHSU, finishing with 309 all-purpose yards in the win over UNK. Soto had a season-high 124 kick return yards and his 47-yard return to the UNK 37 was huge in Fort Hays State keeping its offensive momentum rolling in the second half. The return set up a quick 1:10 scoring drive that cut the UNK lead down to 35-21 late in the third quarter and the Tigers continued to storm back outscoring UNK 21-0 in the fourth quarter. Soto was also close to producing 100 rushing and 100 receiving yards as well, finishing with 98 rushing and 87 receiving (a combined 185 yards on offense). Offensively, Soto caught a pass for 25 yards on FHSU's first drive of the fourth quarter, which set up a touchdown pass on the following play to make the score 35-28 in favor of UNK. On the next Tiger drive, he had a 14-yard rush and a 40-yard reception that helped lead to the game-tying touchdown. On the final FHSU drive of the game, he had a key 14-yard rush on third down to keep FHSU moving. Two plays later FHSU scored the game-winning touchdown to complete an amazing second-half comeback. KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Shortstop Bobby Witt, Jr. has been named the Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year, the publication announced Monday. He becomes the fourth Royals' minor league player to receive the honor, joining right-handed pitcher Tom Gordon (1988), third baseman Alex Gordon (2006) and outfielder Will Myers (2-12). The Royals' foru Minor League Player of the Year winners are tied with Atlanta for the most by any club in the 40-year history of the award.

“On behalf of our entire organization, I want to congratulate Bobby on such a terrific first full season as a professional,” said&nbsp;J.J. Picollo, Royals Sr. Vice President of Baseball Operations/General Manager. “He came into 2021 carrying high expectations and he didn’t disappoint in any phase of his game. From his hitting, including hitting with power, to his baserunning and his defensive skill set, Bobby had just a tremendous year and is very deserving of this honor. We are very proud of his accomplishments this year and look forward to many years of outstanding play by him.”

Witt Jr., 21, split the season between Northwest Arkansas (AA) and Omaha (AAA), and in 123 overall games, he led all minor league players with 72 extra-base hits, while he ranked second in runs scored (99) and total bases (286), fourth in homers (33) and RBI (97) and fifth in hits (144). He recorded 35 doubles, 33 home runs and 29 stolen bases, falling just short of becoming the third minor league player since 1990 to record a 30-30-30 season. However, he’s the first Royals minor leaguer to record 20+ homers and 20+ steals in a season since Alex Gordon in 2006.

In June, Witt Jr. was selected to the MLB All-Star Futures Game roster, and on July 11, he was the starting shortstop and batted leadoff for the American League at Coors Field. Just one week later, on July 18, he was promoted to Omaha, and at the time of his promotion, led all Double-A players in total bases (139), while also leading the Central in RBI (51) and tying for the division lead in runs (44). He was second in the division in hits (72) and home runs (16). He was named the Triple-A East Player of the Week for Aug. 2-8, as he went 8-for-27 (.296) with two doubles, four home runs, 11 RBI and eight runs scored in a six-game span. He finished the month in similar fashion, claiming Triple-A East Player of the Month for August. From the time of his promotion to Omaha on July 18 to the end of the season, Witt Jr. led Triple-A players in runs scored (55), doubles (24) and extra-base hits (41), while tying for fourth in homers (17) and sixth in slugging percentage (.581).

DENVER (AP) — Lamar Jackson threw for 316 yards, including a 49-yard touchdown pass to a diving Marquis Brown, and the Baltimore Ravens used a relentless defense to swat the Denver Broncos from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 23-7 win Sunday.

The Ravens (3-1) won their third consecutive game following an overtime loss to Las Vegas in the opener. They were in danger of coming up just short of tying the Steelers' NFL record for consecutive games with at least 100 yards rushing before Baltimore cornerback Anthony Averett intercepted Drew Lock in the end zone with 3 seconds left.

Instead of taking a knee in victory formation, Jackson took the shotgun snap from his 20 and hustled around left end for a 5-yard gain. That gave the Ravens 102 yards on the ground, their 43rd consecutive 100-yard rushing game, which tied the mark set by Pittsburgh from 1974-77.

The Ravens knocked Broncos starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater from the game with a concussion on his final pass of the first half. Rookie linebacker Odafe Oweh wasn't flagged for hitting Bridgewater in the chin.

Neither was cornerback Tavon Young whistled one play earlier for hitting a defenseless receiver when his brutal hit sent WR/KR Diontae Spencer from the game with an injury to his sternum.

The injuries occurred during a series of curious calls by Broncos offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, who had Bridgewater throw three times after Denver got the ball at its 17 with 1:02 left in the first half and Denver down 14-7.

All three throws fell incomplete — Bridgewater completed just 7 of 16 passes after posting 75% days in each of Denver's three wins — and the Broncos punted the ball back to Baltimore with Justin Tucker, fresh off an NFL-record 66-yard game-winning field goal at Detroit, warming up on the sideline.

Tucker didn't need to attempt a record long field goal this time because Devin Duvernay's 42-yard return set him up for a relatively short 40-yarder as the first half expired, giving the Ravens a 17-7 halftime lead.

The Broncos (3-1), whose three wins came against opponents who were a combined 0-9, turned to Lock, who lost his QB clash to Bridgewater during training camp, and the Broncos struggled to move the ball in the second half.

Lock was 12 for 21 for 113 yards with three sacks and the interception. Bridgewater was sacked twice.

One play after bouncing a short pass to Sammy Watkins, Jackson wound up and hit Brown with a&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Ravens/status/1444774562957340673?s=20">49-yard touchdown pass</a>&nbsp;that gave Baltimore a 14-7 lead in the second quarter.

Brown, who dropped three touchdown passes at Detroit a week earlier, broke free when safety Justin Simmons got turned around. Brown dived for the ball just after sprinting across the goal line.

Both teams punted on their first three possessions before finding the end zone. Noah Fant caught a 3-yard TD pass from Bridgewater to put Denver on the board and the Ravens responded with a long drive capped by Latavius Murray's&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Ravens/status/1444771394349375489?s=20">11-yard touchdown romp</a>.

Fant's TD was set up by rookie Javonte Williams' 31-yard run in which he broke five tackles before cornerback Marlon Humphrey finally knocked him down. Williams carried tacklers four and five more than 10 yards before finally getting brought down.

The only scoring in the second half came on Tucker's field goals of 46 yards and 20 yards. The first came on a 13-play drive and the second capped a 15-play drive.

Broncos linebacker Justin Strnad had two of Denver's three sacks on Jackson.

Ravens RT Alejandro Villanueva hobbled off in the third quarter with a knee injury. His replacement, Andre Smith, was flagged for a face mask away from the play that negated TE Mark Andrews' 30-yard touchdown reception. Broncos starting guards Dalton Risner (ankle) and Graham Glasgow (knee) were inactive and replaced respectively by Netane Muti and rookie Quinn Meinerz.

Royals star Salvador Perez went 0 for 2 with a walk and finished in a tie with Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for the big league home run lead with 48. Perez wound up matching the team record for home runs set by Jorge Soler in 2019.

“It was a lot of hard work and I thank God for this season,” Perez said. “To end the season this way was good and I think we’ll only get better.”

Buxton hit his 19th homer off the left field foul pole to extend the Twins lead to 7-3 in the fifth inning. He missed over 40% of the season due to an oblique strain.

The Twins got to rookie Jackson Kowar (0-6) by scoring five runs in the first inning, three on Polanco’s homer. Polanco’s 98 RBIs this season are the most in Minnesota history by a switch-hitter.

“They played until the very end and gave us exactly what we saw all year,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. “They took over the game and a huge part of winning this game and the organization. It’s great to see them finish strong.”

Twins starter Charlie Barnes went 2 2/3 innings and gave up two runs and seven hits. Nick Vincent (1-0) got the win after throwing two scoreless innings.

“We won the last game and I’m happy for that,” said Luis Arraez, who had three hits and scored twice for Minnesota. “I’m excited for next season. I think we have a good team, but we play hard and won a lot of games. We need to play baseball and that’s it.”

Kansas City scored three times in the third, getting three infield hits in the inning, but trailed 5-3. Nicky Lopez hit a single in the inning and was then pulled from the game, becoming the first shortstop in Royals history to hit .300 in a season.

“I think we improved, but it’s all lip service right now,” Royals manager Mike Matheny said. “Put your work gloves on and let’s take the next step.”

The Twins ended the season at 73-89 and in last place in the AL Central after winning the division the previous two years. The Royals, who were 16-9 in early May, finished at 74-88.

The Twins and Royals open the 2022 spring training schedule on Feb. 26.

⚽ Tiger women blank Jets for first conference win

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw five touchdown passes three different ways, including three to Tyreek Hill, and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles 42-30 on Sunday.

Andy Reid returned to Philadelphia and earned his 100th career win with the Chiefs, becoming the first coach in NFL history to win 100 games with two teams. Reid’s 140 victories with the Eagles are the most in franchise history.

Jalen Hurts threw for a career-high 387 yards and two TDs but Philadelphia (1-3) couldn’t keep up with Kansas City’s high-powered offense. The Eagles had three touchdowns negated by penalty and settled for field goals three times inside the red zone.

The two-time defending AFC champion Chiefs (2-2) snapped a two-game losing streak after entering with a losing record for the first time since they were 4-5 in 2015.

Mahomes tossed TD passes underhanded, overhanded and shoveled one on Kansas City’s three possessions in the first half. He finished with 278 yards passing and his interception was the only possession the Chiefs didn’t score a TD. Hill had 11 catches for 186 yards.

Mahomes flipped a 1-yard TD pass&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1444714591481593859" target="_blank">underhanded to Clyde Edwards-Helaire</a>&nbsp;for a 7-3 lead in the first quarter.

He threw a normal&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1444722250213584897" target="_blank">6-yard TD pass to Hill</a>&nbsp;to give the Chiefs a 14-10 lead. Mahomes set up the score a few plays earlier on first-and-20 from the 42 with a beautiful 32-yard pass to Hill, who made an excellent&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1444721533939707905" target="_blank">over-the-shoulder, fingertip catch</a>&nbsp;near the sideline.

His 2-yard shovel pass to Jody Fortson increased Kansas City’s lead to 21-13 with under a minute left in the first half.

Darrel Williams ran in from the 1 to extend the lead to 28-16 but the Eagles answered with Kenneth Gainwell’s 7-yard TD run to get within 28-23.

Mahomes then connected with Hill on TD passes of 12 and 44 yards.

Hurts completed his first three passes for 56 yards on the opening drive but overthrew Zach Ertz in the end zone and the Eagles settled for Jake Elliott’s 29-yard field goal.

Late in the second quarter, Hurts missed Greg Ward open in the end zone after a 6-yard TD pass to Dallas Goedert was nullified by a penalty on left tackle Andre Dillard for being ineligible downfield. Elliott ended up hitting a 25-yarder.

A 3-yard TD pass from Hurts to Ertz in the third quarter was negated by an offensive pass interference penalty on J.J. Arcega-Whiteside so Elliott kicked a 31-yarder.

DeVonta Smith later caught a 34-yard TD pass but he stepped out of bounds. The Eagles then couldn’t convert on fourth down.

Smith caught seven passes for a career-high 122 yards. Smith, the 2020 Heisman Trophy winner with the 10th overall pick in the NFL draft, had 115 yards receiving in the first three games combined.

Three-time All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce improved to 3-0 against his older brother, three-time All-Pro center Jason Kelce. Travis had only four catches for 23 yards but his acting skills were on display when he waved his arms, pretending to not know the play right before the snap on Mahomes’ shovel TD pass.

Jason Kelce made his 109th consecutive start. He was the only member of Philadelphia’s starting offensive line who played after right tackle Lane Johnson was scratched due to a “personal” matter.

LeSean McCoy was honored by the Eagles after he officially retired on Friday. McCoy spent his first six seasons in Philadelphia from 2009-14 and finished as the franchise’s all-time leader in yards rushing with 6,792. McCoy was a two-time All-Pro, six-time Pro Bowl pick and was a member of Super Bowl championship teams each of the past two seasons.

Chiefs: DE Frank Clark (hamstring), CB Charvarius Ward (quad) and S Rashad Fenton (concussion) were inactive.

Eagles: S Rodney McLeod played his first since suffering a torn ACL last December.

🏈 Patrick Mahomes throws 5 TD passes, Chiefs beat Eagles

HAYS - Trailing 21-0 at halftime, Fort Hays State scored touchdowns on six-straight second possessions and rallied for an improbable 42-35 win over No. 12/15 Nebraska-Kearney in front of 6,743 Saturday night at Lewis Field. It's the first time the Tigers have won when trailing at halftime since beating UNK in two overtimes in Kearney in 2018. FHSU has won three straight and improves to 3-2 while the Lopers have their seven-game win streak snapped and drop to 4-1.

After going three and out in their first possession, UNK scored touchdowns on their next three possessions to built a 21-0 lead at the 7:16 mark of the second quarter. 

The Tigers were only able to move the ball as far as the Lopers 40 yard line until their final drive of the second quarter. TIght end Hunter Budke caught a pass from Chance Fuller at the five and carried a Loper near the goal line but was stopped just short of a touchdown. The Tigers scored their first points on their first possession of the third quarter. Chance Fuller hit Alex Schremmer&nbsp;for a big 36-yard gain. A 13-yard pass to Manny Ramsey was followed with a 29-yard touchdown pass to Budke.

UNK responded with a quick touchdown drive with gains of 28, 18, and 16 yards, pushing its lead back to 21. The Tigers fired back as Fuller found Ramsey for a 21-yard gain to start the next drive. Fuller then picked up 28 yards on the ground over the next two plays. He later found Schremmer for a 17-yard touchdown pass, cutting the Lopers lead to 14.

Kearney answered again , marching 79 yards over six plays to push their lead right back to 21 with 2:54 to go in the third quarter.

Adrian Soto sparked the Tigers next scoring drive with a 47 yard kickoff return to the UNK 37 yard line. Keylan Chapman ripped off a&nbsp;24-yard run to the UNK 10 then Fuller capped it with a seven-yard t0ouchdown pass to Ramsey to cut the Loper lead to 35-21 with 1:37 to go in the third. After a three-and-out by the Tiger defense, the Tigers got the ball back at their own 46. Fuller hit Soto on a 25-yard on third down and got 15 more yards on a Loper roughing the passer penalty.&nbsp; Voshon Waiters&nbsp;then entered to throw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Budke to trim the lead to seven. The Lopers next drive stalled near midfield and the Tigers got the ball back at their own 14e game. Soto had a run of 14-yards than hauled in a 40 yards pass to the UNK 32. Fuller hit Schremmer for 22-yards then scrambled for a nine-yard run to the one. Chapman punched the ball in from a yard out to tie the game, 35-35. The Lopers, who had won their last two games with touchdowns in the final minute, were stopped at their own 29 on a sack by Jhimon Preston&nbsp;on third -and-6.&nbsp; The Tigers got the ball on their own 33. Fuller found Schremmer for 14 yards then on third and three, Soto broke off a 14-yard run for a first down. Keylan Chapman's 31-yard run moved the ball to to one. He then scored his second on the next play to give the Tigers their first lead with 1:07 to play. UNK picked up one first down on their ensuing drive, but then quarterback TJ Davis was intercepted by freshman Devin White&nbsp;at the FHSU 40.

It was Fort Hays State's first interception of the season and only turnover of the game. Fuller completed 22-of-36 passes for 345 yards and three touchdowns. Schremmer led Tiger with 98 receiving yards on five catches. Adrian Soto rushed for 98 yards and had another 87 through the air and finished with 307 all-purpose yards.

Jhimon Preston led the defense with 11 tackles.&nbsp;

UNK quarterback TJ Davis completed 12-of-15 passes for 202 yards two touchdowns. He also rushed for 96 yards and two scores. Montrez Jackson led the Lopers' with 102 rushing yards. 

UNK finished with 274 rushing yards as a team. The Lopers gained 476 total yards as a team. The Tigers finished with 567 total yards.&nbsp; Fort Hays State is back on the road for another key game at Washburn next week in Topeka. Both teams will enter the game 3-2 overall. Kickoff is set for 1 pm at Yager Stadium.

AMES, Iowa (AP) - Brock Purdy threw four touchdown passes in the first quarter as Iowa State rolled past Big 12 Conference rival Kansas 59-7 on Saturday night.

The 28 points was the most ever scored by the Cyclones in an opening period, helping coach Matt Campbell's team improve its record to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big 12. And it was the most total points Iowa State has scored in its long-running series with the Jayhawks.

“I think it said a lot about our team to play the way we played when we didn't get the result we wanted last week,” Campbell said of a 31-29 loss at Baylor.

Kansas (1-4, 0-2) has not won a conference road game since beating Iowa State 35-33 on Oct. 4, 2008, a string of 55 straight defeats.

Purdy finished 17 of 22 passing for 245 yards, with no interceptions. He now owns a 13-1 home record against Big 12 opponents.

Breece Hall added 123 rushing yards on 17 carries and scored two touchdowns. Hall has scored a touchdown in 17 consecutive games, the nation's longest-active streak.

Purdy completed his first six attempts, throwing touchdowns to four different receivers. The first came on a 36-yard strike to Xavier Hutchinson. Charlie Kolar caught a 6-yard scoring toss while Joe Scates and Jirehl Brock caught touchdown passes of 44 and 7 yards.

Hutchinson finished with seven receptions for 96 yards.

Iowa State's first three touchdowns came in the span of 4 minutes, 23 seconds. The Cyclones owned a total-yardage edge of 315 to 162 in the first half.

The victory got Iowa State back on track after two losses in its last three games.

“The reality of our program has grown,” Campbell said, “ and we've proven we can strengthen through struggle.”

Kansas has lost 14 straight to Big 12 rivals, and 55 of 58 since beating Iowa State at home in 2014.

The Jayhawks did not reach the end zone Saturday until 9:17 left in the third quarter. Torry Locklin ran the ball in from 12 yards out.

“It felt good,” Iowa State defensive tackle Eyioma Uwazurike said. “It felt like we were doing what we're supposed to do on defense.”

Devin Neal led Kansas in rushing with 83 yards on 15 carries. Jason Bean threw for 120 yards on 10-of-20 passing.

Iowa State has won eight straight home games against Big 12 teams, the longest active streak in the Big 12.

🏈 Purdy's four first  quarter TDs spark Iowa State to rout of Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Griffin Jax and a trio of relievers combined on a three-hitter and the Minnesota Twins blanked Salvador Perez and the Kansas City Royals 4-0 Saturday night.

Perez was hitless in four at-bats for the second straight night as he tries to break the team record for home runs. Leading the majors with 48 homers — one more than Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. — Perez is tied with Jorge Soler (2019) for the most by a Royals player.

“Griffin really showed up tonight,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. “I think he felt his slider today in a real nice fashion, was able to use it a lot.

“I think we saw a really nice version of Griffin Jax. I think he’s been working on a lot of things. I think he and (pitching coach) Wes (Johnson) had a ton of conversation and we saw it come to fruition in the last start of the season. We’ve seen this from him at different points in the year and to see him kind of build towards this going into the offseason, a great last outing," he said.

Josh Donaldson hit his 26th homer and Luis Arraez drove in two runs for Minnesota.

Jax (4-5) allowed just one hit in five innings. The rookie, who came into the game with a 6.78 ERA, struck out three and walked two in the best of his 14 starts in the majors.

“They’re all kind of memorable, but it’s nice to end on a high note,” Jax said. “It means a lot. You’re going to face the same lineup many times each year, and that makes it harder because guys are going to see you more often.

“I like to look at every single start and see how I improved. For this to end the way it did it gives me a whole lot more confidence heading into the offseason," he said."

Relievers Caleb Thielbar, Tyler Duffey and Alex Colomé finished up the shutout.

Kris Bubic (6-7) gave up two earned runs and seven hits in 6.2 innings. He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.

“I thought he was good,” Kansas City manager Mike Matheny said. “It wasn’t a big inning. The one-run innings stacked up on him.

“He figured out ways to use everything. It was a continuation of what we’ve seen in his last several starts —well-located fastball, smart with the breaking ball and his changeup was plus. He should be very proud of the adjustments and improvements he’s made this season," he said.

Donaldson hit a solo homer in the first. Arraez’s sacrifice fly gave the Twins an unearned run in the fourth.

Byron Buxton doubled in the fifth and scored on a single by Mitch Garver. Buxton has seven hits in his last three games, and three doubles in his last two games.

Arraez added an RBI single in the eighth.

Twins LHP Charlie Barnes was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul. He took the spot of RHP John Gant, who was placed on the injured list after Friday night’s start.
