CHICAGO (AP) — Andrew Vaughn hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the seventh inning, and the Chicago White Sox stopped an eight-game slide with a 7-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals. 

The winning rally for the White Sox started when Danny Mendick and Tim Anderson hit consecutive two-out singles off Collin Snider. 

Scott Barlow then came in, and Vaughn drove his first pitch into the home bullpen in left. 

The White Sox added another run in the eighth when Leury García scampered home on Reese McGuire’s double-play grounder.

CHICAGO (AP) — Daniel Lynch gave the Kansas City Royals exactly what they needed.

Not so much for Dallas Keuchel and the Chicago White Sox.

Lynch pitched six crisp innings, and the Royals handed the White Sox their eighth straight loss with a 6-0 victory Tuesday night.

“I felt like I commanded the ball really well,” Lynch said. “I did what I wanted to.”

Bobby Witt Jr. had two hits and Carlos Santana drove in two runs, helping Kansas City stop a four-game slide. The Royals were outscored 22-12 in a sweep at Seattle over the weekend.

Lynch (2-1) allowed two hits, struck out seven and walked two. The left-hander, who made his big league debut almost a year ago, also pitched shutout ball in his previous start, working into the sixth in a 2-0 win over Minnesota last week.

“It's just amazing from a year ago where he is right now,” Royals manager Mike Matheny said. “How his demeanor, his rhythm, his repeatability, that's really a thing that you see the most is he is repeating mechanics that are letting him repeat inside the zone and outside. He had everything today.”

Chicago's best scoring chance against Lynch occurred in the fourth, when Jake Burger flied out to the warning track in left with Yasmani Grandal aboard after a leadoff double.

The White Sox issued 11 walks and committed two more errors, running their major league-leading total to 20. First baseman José Abreu dropped a throw in the fourth, leading to two unearned runs. Shortstop Tim Anderson flubbed a grounder in the eighth for his seventh error in his last six games.

It's the longest losing streak for Chicago since it also dropped eight in a row in June 2018.

“If you have talent like this and you have to get after guys to get started or they’re walking around smiling or not working, then you’ve got the wrong people,” manager Tony La Russa said. "We’ve got the right people. So we’ll be all right. The sooner the better though, because we’re not having any fun.”

Keuchel (1-2) worked four innings in his second straight loss, allowing two runs and two hits. The lefty struck out two and walked five for the reigning AL Central champions.

“We’re too good of a team to really feel bad about ourselves or get down, so we’ll have to pick it back up and eventually we will,” Keuchel said. “Just a matter of will it be tomorrow or hopefully the next day.”

Kansas City put the game away with four runs in the sixth, sending 10 batters to the plate. Witt doubled and scored on Michael A. Taylor's sacrifice fly. Andrew Benintendi drove in a run with an unusual fielder's choice, and Santana made it 6-0 with a two-run single against Kyle Crick.

Benintendi's bases-loaded fly ball to left dropped in front of Andrew Vaughn, who threw to third for the forceout as Edward Olivares scored.

Taylor Clarke got three outs for Kansas City before Brady Singer finished the five-hitter.

Royals: SS Adalberto Mondesi exited in the sixth because of left knee discomfort. “He's sore, but they didn't think anything structural,” Matheny said. “Probably get another look at it in the morning.”

He is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks. Jiménez got hurt during Saturday’s 9-2 loss at Minnesota when he stretched for first base while running out a grounder to third. ... CF Luis Robert (groin strain) and 3B Yoán Moncada (right oblique strain) ran the bases before the game. Robert could return as soon as Wednesday, and Moncada could start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte as soon as this weekend.

Right-handers Zack Greinke (0-1, 2.25 ERA) and Dylan Cease (2-1, 3.38) pitch on Wednesday afternoon. Greinke tossed five innings of one-run ball in Kansas City's 1-0 loss to Minnesota on Thursday. HAYS – The TMP-Marian baseball team saw their losing streak
move to three games Tuesday after they were swept by Great Bend. The Panthers
won 7-3 and 15-0 to move to 10-3. The Monarchs are now 4-4. They host Holcomb
in a doubleheader Thursday then travel to Russell for two on Friday.

Game 1: Great Bend 7, TMP-Marian 3 
The Panthers scored four runs in the top of the sixth to break a 3-3 tie. They
opened the inning with a single and triple then took advantage of three
straight walks and a double.

The Monarchs tied the game 1-1 in the second on Griffin
Schumacher’s two-out double which score Garrett Feauto.

Nick Herman’s two-out single in the second scored a run to
give the Monarchs a 2-1 lead, but the Monarchs left the bases loaded.

Great Bend scored two in the fifth but the Jace Wentling
scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the inning to tie the game 3-3.

Wentling had three of TMP’s eight hits.

Mark Rack allowed five runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings in relief
and took the loss. &nbsp;Cade Morgan made the start
and allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts and four walks over 3
2/3 innings.

Game 2: Great Bend 15, TMP-Marian 9, 4 innings 
After scoring a run in the first, the Panthers add four second, two in the
third and eight in the fourth,

Jace Wentling and Cade Morgan had the only hits for the Monarchs
who were out hit 18-2.

DODGE CITY – The Hays High softball team was back on the road
Tuesday. After dropping a pair of games in Garden City Monday, the Indians split
their doubleheader at Dodge City Tuesday, winning game one 9-6 and losing game
two 10-9.

The Indians are 6-6 overall and 6-4 in the Western Athletic
Conference. Dodge City is also 6-6 overall and 4-2 in the WAC.

After an off day Wednesday, HHS plays a split doubleheader
with Sacred Heart and TMP-Marian Thursday then travels to Colby Friday.

Game 1: Hays High 9, Dodge City 6 
The Indians scored four runs in the top of the seventh to break a 5-5 tie. Riley
Dreher started the rally with a leadoff single. She scored on Lakyn Zimmerman’s
double. After a fly out, Morgen Berry singled which drove in Zimmerman which
cut the lead to 7-5. Following a Red Demon error and another flyout, Ashlyn Zimmer
tripled to drive in two runs to push the lead to 9-5.

Dodge City took advantage of a walk and an error to score a
run in the bottom of the inning, but a strikeout ended the game.

Dreher (3-2) picked up the complete game victory, allowing
five earned runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

Lainey Hardman had three of the Indians 12 hits and scored a run. Berry
had three hits with an RBI and two runs scored. Dezerae Schmidt added two doubles
and scored a run.

Game 2: Dodge City 10, Hays High 9 
The Indians rallied with three runs in the top of the seventh but the rally came
up one run short. Lakyn Zimmerman singled then Elle Dreiling tripled with one
out to cut the deficit to 10-7. Morgen Berry followed with a double which
scored Dreiling. Following a flyout, Reagen Winter singled which drove in Berry.
A walk pushed the tying run to second but a popup ended the game.

early lead. After the Indian scored three in the third and three in the fourth
to take a 6-4 lead, the Red Demons answered with five in the fourth and one in

third at the Hoisington Invitational Tuesday. The girls win 5 events. Emma

🏀 Former longtime HHS coach to lead Knights

PHILLIPSBURG – The TMP-Marian girls track and field team won
five individual events and two relays Monday on their way to a second place finish
at the Phillipsburg track and field meet. 

The TMP boys finished third and recorded four first place
finishes.

TMP’s Kade Harris won both the 100 and 200 meter dash. Jace
Wentling won both the long jump and triple jump. Harris finished second and
Lance Lang third in the long jump. 

Caden Becker and Braydon Binder finished fourth and fifth in
the 1600 meters. Caleb Marintzer placed third in the 3200 meters. 

The boys 4x100 meter and 4x800 meter relay teams each placed
second.

TMP’s Emilee Lane won the girls 800 meters and Allison Weber
finished sixth. 

Shalee Gottschalk won both the triple jump and the 100 meter
hurdles. Nevaeh Weigel finished second in the triple jump and sixth in the 100
meters hurdles. 

Emma Basgall finished fifth in the triple jump. Basgall
finished third in the long jump and Weigel was fourth.

Kassidi Yost won the high jump and Tessa Wentlin was third.

Ella Bain placed third in the 3200 meter run. 

The TMP girls 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams brought home
first place finish while the 4x800 team was second.

PHILLIPSBURG – The TMP-Marian girls track and field team won
five individual events and two relays Monday on their way to a second place finish
at the Phillipsburg track and field meet. The TMP boys finished third and recorded four first place
finishes.TMP’s Kade Harris won both the 100 and 200 meter dash. Jace
Wentling won both the long jump and triple jump. Harris finished second and
Lance Lang third in the long jump. Caden Becker and Braydon Binder finished fourth and fifth in
the 1600 meters. Caleb Marintzer placed third in the 3200 meters. The boys 4x100 meter and 4x800 meter relay teams each placed
second.TMP’s Emilee Lane won the girls 800 meters and Allison Weber
finished sixth. Shalee Gottschalk won both the triple jump and the 100 meter
hurdles. Nevaeh Weigel finished second in the triple jump and sixth in the 100
meters hurdles. Emma Basgall finished fifth in the triple jump. Basgall
finished third in the long jump and Weigel was fourth.Kassidi Yost won the high jump and Tessa Wentlin was third.Ella Bain placed third in the 3200 meter run. The TMP girls 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams brought home

GARDEN CITY – The Hays High softball team began their busy
week by being swept in Garden City. The Indians lost 3-0 in game one then saw
the Buffs score four runs in the bottom of the sixth and dropped the second
contest 9-5. 

The Indians are now 5-5 and 5-3 in the Western Athletic
Conference with all three losses to Garden City. They are back on the road
Tuesday for a doubleheader at Dodge City.

Game 1: Garden City 3, Hays 0 
The Indians were held to three singles and struck out 10 times.

The Buffs scored twice in the second on a one-out double than
added another run in the fourth on a passed ball.

Riley Dreher (2-2) allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits
with five strikeouts and two walks.

Dreher, Dezerea Schmidt and Morgen Berry had the Indians only
hits.

Game 2: Garden City 9, Hays 5 
The Buffs scored four runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to break a
5-5 tie. They took advantage of two errors and two walks in the decisive frame.

Down 5-1, the Indians rallied with three in the third on a
Morgen Berry sac fly and Elle Dreiling two-run double. Berry’s two-out double
scored Riley Dreher with the tying run in the fifth.

Aubree Thomas (3-3) allowed only one earned run and struck
out 11 with three walks but suffered the loss.

The Indians committed eight errors and struck out 13 times in
the game.

Dreher finished 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored.
Berry and Dreiling both drove in two runs and Dezerea Schmidt the other.

INDIANAPOLIS - Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6388">Morgan Brasser</a>&nbsp;has been selected to represent Fort Hays State at the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Central Region Championship, announced Monday by the NCAA. This is the second time Brasser has qualified for postseason competition. This year's central regional will be contested at the Park Course at Hot Springs Country Club in Hot Springs, Ark. The 6,046-yard, par-72 course will be the site of the 54-hole championship next Monday-Wednesday (May 2-4). Brasser's tournament will begin&nbsp;on hole No. 11 with an&nbsp;8:50 a.m. tee time in round one. Tuesday's round will begin at 8 a.m. off either hole No. 1 or No. 11 before the final round begins at either 8:50 a.m. or 9 a.m. on Wednesday off the 11th hole. Brasser posted a stroke average of 77.5 over 22 rounds this season, including two even-par rounds and 15 sub-80 rounds. She finished in the top 10 at five of her 10 tournaments this year, including her first collegiate win at the Holiday Inn Express Classic last month in St. Joseph, Mo. The Andale, Kan. native posted a career-low 71 in the first round of the Diffee Ford Lincoln Invite early in the spring season. An honorable mention All-MIAA selection this season, Brasser finished in a tie for 12th out of 49 golfers at last year's Central Region Championships in St. Joseph, Mo. with a three-round total of 17-over 233. She holds the top time in the 50 yard freestyle at 24.98. She is the only 5-1A swimmer to break under 25 seconds this season and only three other swimmers in class 6A have broken that barrier.

🏊 Hays High freshman holds top swimming mark

EMPORIA, Kan. - Two more school records went down for the Fort Hays State track and field team Sunday at the Midwest Classic. Fort Hays State also totaled nine provisional qualifying marks and eight event victories in the event, hosted by Emporia State at Welch Stadium. Despite sending only 12 athletes to the golden oval, the women racked up six provisional marks and five individual wins while placing second as a team with 117 points. The men were fourth with 82 team points after recording three provisionals and three first-place finishes. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6485">Jacob Clark</a>&nbsp;highlighted the day by breaking the outdoor school record in the pole vault with a clearance of 17-3. SEATTLE (AP) — Jesse Winker capped an 11-pitch at-bat with a broken-bat single into right field to score Adam Frazier, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals 5-4 in 12 innings on Sunday to complete a three-game sweep.

Winker had an 11-pitch at-bat in the 10th inning ending with a sacrifice fly that scored Frazier to tie the game at 4-4. Two innings later, Winker fouled off seven pitches from Kansas City's Joel Payamps (0-1) before dumping his first hit of the game into right field. Frazier scored easily when Whit Merrifield's throw was up the line.

Yohan Ramirez (1-0) got the victory escaping a jam in the 12th. Ramirez, the sixth Seattle reliever, walked Michael A. Taylor and Ryan O'Hearn with one out in the 12th, loading the bases. But he recovered to strike out Merrifield and Nicky Lopez.

Ty France continued his hot hitting with a two-run homer on the third pitch of the game for Seattle. France was intentionally walked before even stepping into the batters' box to open the bottom of the 12th and Winker followed with the winner.

Seattle finished off a 7-2 homestand getting the early homer from France, J.P. Crawford's RBI double and strong relief pitching in extra innings.

Hunter Dozier hit a solo homer with one out in the ninth inning off Drew Steckenrider to pull the Royals even at 3-3. It was Dozier's third home run of the season and first on the road.

Steckenrider had not allowed a long ball in his first six appearances this season and blew a save chance for the first time.

The home run cost Seattle starter Robbie Ray a chance at his third straight victory. Ray pitched at least six innings for the fourth straight start to begin his Seattle career following his big offseason signing by the Mariners. Ray's only trouble came in the third inning when a leadoff walk to speedy outfielder Michael A. Taylor and Cam Gallagher's double plated one run.

Salvador Perez doubled later in the inning to score Edward Oliveras and pull even at 2-2.

Ray allowed five hits and struck out five. He's the only pitcher in the majors this year to throw at least six innings in four starts.

Royals: Perez was back in the lineup a day after getting hit on the left hand/wrist by a pitch. X-Rays were negative, and Perez got a day off from catching until coming on in the 10th inning.

Mariners: Seattle had no new additions to the COVID-19 IL on Sunday. Acting manager Kristopher Negrón said the players and coaches affected by the virus this past week were feeling better but was unsure if they would rejoin the team before or during the upcoming nine-game road trip. "The hope, the plan is hopefully they're good to go on this road trip," Negrón said. "That's what we're trying to hope for. They're feeling better and once they pass protocols they'll be ready to go with us."

Royals: Kansas City is off on Monday before opening a series in Chicago against the White Sox on Tuesday. LHP Daniel Lynch (1-1, 5.40) will start the opener.

Mariners: After an off day, Seattle will open a three-game series at Tampa Bay. RHP Logan Gilbert (2-0, 0.58) will start the opener on Tuesday.

Both teams found a rhythm early in the contest, but the Tigers were unable to overcome the damage done in the first inning. The Bearcats improve 17-25, 11-18 MIAA wile the Tigers fall to 4-37, 3-26 MIAA.

The Tigers came out swinging in the opening frame as a walked&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6620">Jenner Kehe</a>&nbsp;found his way to third on a ground out and a wild pitch. In&nbsp;the next at bat,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6327">Grant Schmidt</a>&nbsp;doubled down the left field line to plate Kehe and give the Tigers a 1-0&nbsp;lead. SEATTLE (AP) — Ty France had five hits, including a three-run homer, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals 13-7 on Saturday night.

Royals reliever Jake Brentz (0-3) walked four straight batters to open the eighth inning. His bases-loaded free pass to Julio Rodriguez allowed Donovan Walton to score the go-ahead run. Jesse Winker then drove in two runs with a double to make it 10-7 before France homered to center field.

“Those were great at-bats throughout to put us in that situation,” Mariners acting manager Kristopher Negron said. “Everybody was just kind of stringing them all together. Hits are contagious, but pitches and dominating zones are contagious, too.”

France, who had five RBIs, became the first Mariners player with five or more hits in a game since Dee-Strange Gordon on May 1, 2018.

“I’m just getting on time,” France said. "When I’m on time, I’m able to react to pitches, lay off bad pitches and put good swings on pitches. That’s basically what it comes down to for me. When things are going well, it just means my timing’s right and I’m able to get that good swing off.”

Seattle had seven extra-base hits, including a two-run homer by J.P. Crawford in the first.

Diego Castillo (1-0) pitched a perfect eighth for the win.

The Royals entered the seventh trailing 6-4. Carlos Santana tied it with a two-run homer to right field before Edward Olivares gave Kansas City the lead with an RBI double.
