CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State head coach&nbsp;Wayne Tinkle&nbsp;and
 his staff announced Wednesday the addition of Gavin Marrs who signed a 
National Letter of Intent to join the Beaver basketball program 
beginning with the 2023-24 season. 
Marrs, a 6-foot-11, 200-pound forward, attends Ellensburg High School in Ellensburg, Wash. He is a native of Hays. 
"First off, Gavin is an incredible kid from a great family," Tinkle 
said. "He's &nbsp;a very skilled and athletic big man who plays extremely 
hard. These qualities will allow him to play multiple positions for us, 
adding to our versatility. He's had some bad luck with injuries in High 
School but is healthy now and poised for a big year. &nbsp;We couldn't be 
more excited to be adding him to our program."&nbsp; Gavin Marrs 
Marrs is the No. 4 rated prospect in the state of Washington, despite 
missing the bulk of his junior season to rehab a back injury. Although 
he only played in eight games during Ellensburg High School's 2021-22 
season, the forward still earned Central Washington Athletic Conference 
Honorable Mention. He averaged 10 points, eight rebounds and three 
blocks per contests in his limited playing time during the campaign. 
The three-star recruit made the varsity squad during his freshman 
campaign. Marrs is rated as 247 Sports' No. 45 power forward in this 
year's class, and played AAU ball for Friends of Hoop in Seattle.

"I picked Oregon State because of the family atmosphere that 
surrounds the school and basketball program," Marrs said. "The coaches 
really care about your development not only as a basketball player, but 
as a person. As soon as I stepped on campus and met all the staff and 
players I knew it was the place for me." 
In the classroom, Marrs is an Honor Roll student and a member of the 
National Honor Society. He was born in Hays, enjoys cooking and 
has been to 41 of the 50 states.

Hays High Indians boys wrestling has two wrestlers ranked in the 5A preseason coaches poll out this week.

Last season Harley Zimmerman finished 44-4 and finished
runner-up at 132 pounds. Zimmerman will open his senior campaign as the top
ranked wrestler in 5A 138 pounds.

Junior Elijah MCCullough is ranked third in the preseason
rankings at 106 pounds. MCCullough was a state qualifier at 106 pounds and
finished 29-19.

The Indians will open the season Dec. 3 at Junction City.

The Hays High girls wrestling team will open the season
ranked fourth as a team with four individuals ranked in the top six in the 5-6A
preseason coaches poll released this week.

After finishing runner-up, with a record of 32-6, senior
Sara Zimmerman is ranked second at 110 pounds. Wichita North’s Larrisa Garcia,
who beat Zimmerman in the championship match last season is ranked first.

At 145 pounds junior Lexi Burton is ranked fourth to open
the season. Burton finished sixth at 143 last year.

Junior’s Addison Otte and Katie Gutierrez were ranked fifth
at 120 and 130 pounds respectively.

Otte and Gutierrez were both state qualifiers a year ago.

The Hays High girls open their season Dec. 2 at Valley
Center.

The Maize, Kan. native averaged a double-double on the weekend, totaling 26 points, 25 rebounds and two steals across the two contests. She opened the year with 16 points and 12 rebounds against No. 6 West Texas A&amp;M before helping the No. 3 Tigers to a win over Southern Nazarene with 10 points and 13 rebounds. She was a perfect 2-for-2 from behind the arc and hit 10-of-14 free throws while averaging just under 30 minutes per game. Next up for the Tigers is a trip to South Dakota for the Courtyard Sioux Falls Tip-Off Classic, hosted by the University of Sioux Falls November 11-12. MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Nae'Qwan Tomlin and Markquis Nowell scored 14 points apiece and Kansas State opened the season under new coach Jerome Tang with a 93-59 romp over UT Rio Grande Valley on Monday night.

Tang took over the Wildcats' program after serving as an assistant to Scott Drew at Baylor from 2003-2022.

Nowell sank all three of his 3-point shots and added seven assists and four steals for the Wildcats, who made 12 of 27 from beyond the arc (44.4%). Tomlin added a team-high eight rebounds.

Keyontae Johnson hit three from distance and scored 13 for K-State. Abayomi Iyiola finished with 12 points, while fellow reserves Ismael Massoud and Desi Sills scored 10 each.

Justin Johnson totaled 20 points to lead the Vaqueros. Freshman Adante' Holiman came off the bench to score 13.

The Wildcats scored 31 points off of 26 Vaquero turnovers. UTRGV struggled from 3-point range, making 4 of 15.

🏀 K-State beats UT Rio Grande Valley in Tang's debut

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Jalen Wilson had 19 points and 11 rebounds, Gradey Dick added 23 points in his debut, and No. 5 Kansas began defense of its national championship without suspended coach Bill Self in an 89-64 rout of Omaha on Monday night.

Bobby Pettiford Jr. added 13 points, Dajuan Harris had 11 points and eight assists, and Texas Tech transfer Kevin McCullar Jr. scored 10 for the Jayhawks, who broke open a close game in the second half with two big runs.

Self served the first of a four-game punishment along with assistant Kurtis Townsend as part of the fallout from a 2017 federal investigation into college basketball corruption. The case against Kansas has been mired in an independent review process, so the school self-imposed the penalties last week rather than continue waiting for a resolution.

Norm Roberts, a longtime assistant who also spent six seasons as the head coach at St. John's, served as the Jayhawks' acting coach. But the school said any wins or losses under his leadership would be attributed to the program only.

There was never much question whether it would be a win Monday night.

Despite returning only two starters from the team that rallied to beat North Carolina in the national championship game, the new-look Jayhawks built a double-digit lead by the midway point of the first half and never looked back.

Jaeden Marshall scored 13 points and Luke Jungers had 12 for the Mavericks.

Wilson, who declared for the NBA draft before returning to school, showed that he can go from being a talented role player to an unquestioned leader. He drained three early 3-pointers, kept getting easy baskets by cutting to the rim, and was just as good at the defensive end, where he made every shot difficult for the undersized Mavericks.

LAWRENCE, Kan.&nbsp;– After combining for 334 yards of offense on Saturday, sophomore Devin Neal has been named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Neal rushed for 224 yards and had 110 yards through the air in Kansas’ 37-16 victory over No. 18 Oklahoma State. Neal became the first Jayhawk in school history with 200+ rushing yards and 100+ receiving yards in a game, while his 334 combined yards are the most since 1991, when Tony Sands combined for 398 yards (396 rush, 2 receiving) against Missouri.

From Lawrence, Kansas, Neal rushed a career-high 32 times for 224 yards, including a 31 yard rushing touchdown against Oklahoma State. Neal added six receptions for 110 yards through the air.

Neal’s Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honor is the second of the season for the Jayhawks, after Jalon Daniels was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 19. Kansas now has two Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in school history.

Kansas’ Lonnie Phelps was named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 5, followed by Cobee Bryant being named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 12.

Kansas’ 37-16 win over No. 18 Oklahoma State made the Jayhawks bowl eligible for the first time since 2008, while it was the Jayhawks’ first win over a ranked opponent since 2010 (Georgia Tech).

Kansas (6-3, 3-3 Big 12) will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 12 when they take on Texas Tech (4-5, 2-4 Big 12) in Lubbock. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. CT.

🏈 Devin Neal named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes was probably having flashbacks Sunday night to his days at Texas Tech, when he would scramble around like a kid playing sandlot football while routinely throwing the ball 60-plus times in a game.

The Chiefs needed all of it — every run, every throw, every yard — to rally past the Tennessee Titans.

Mahomes finished 43 of 68 for 446 yards and a touchdown, and he ran for the tying score and 2-point conversion late in the fourth quarter, before Harrison Butker atoned for two earlier misses by drilling the go-ahead field goal in overtime and lifting the Chiefs to the 20-17 victory.

“I did not know I threw that many,” Mahomes said with a smile, “but yeah, Texas Tech, I threw a couple, so I'm able to do it.”

Chiefs coach Andy Reid improved to 21-3 coming off a bye by beating a franchise that has long been his nemesis. He was just 2-9 against the Titans — heck, Reid has three wins against the Chiefs — including a 27-3 loss in Nashville last year.

It was only the second win for Kansas City (6-2) in its last seven games against the Titans.

“You have to be able to win a game like that," Reid said, “where everything isn't just perfect, and your emotions are up and down and you have to fight through. We were so close on so many plays. Step up and let's go.”

Things were spiraling toward another disappointment the way Derrick Henry was chewing up yardage against the Kansas City defense, and the way the Titans (5-3) were shutting down Mahomes and Co. into the fourth quarter.

Indeed, the Chiefs were trailing 17-9 and time was running out when they took over at their own 7-yard line. But in vintage Mahomes fashion, he willed his team downfield. His 20-yard scramble on third-and-17 kept the drive going, and his third-and-9 touchdown scramble along with his 2-point conversion run knotted the game with 2:56 to go.

After the Chiefs won the overtime coin toss, the Titans nearly stopped them, only for Noah Gray to make a nifty third-down catch. Then, Mahomes hit JuJu Smith-Schuster on fourth down to keep the drive alive — and the clock moving.

Butker drilled his 28-yarder to give Kansas City the lead with 4:04 left in overtime.

The Chiefs proceeded to stuff Henry, then sacked Titans rookie Malik Willis on back-to-back plays, before batting down his fourth-down throw to end the game and send fireworks flying into the sky above Arrowhead Stadium.

“When you get to those end of the game situations,” Mahomes said, “you have to try to go out there and make it happen.”

Henry finished with 115 yards rushing and two touchdowns for the Titans. But he didn't get a whole lot of help from Willis, who got his second start in place of the injured Ryan Tannehill, and was just 5 of 16 for 80 yards.

“I'm very disappointed. I feel terrible for the players,” Titans coach Mike Vrabel said. “They compete, and put so much into this, and play through pain and discomfort and any situation. I'm lucky to coach them. They fight.”

The Chiefs figured the best way to shut down Henry, who had run for 219 yards and two touchdowns last week against Houston, was to keep him off the field. They opened the game with a 15-play march that took up 8 1/2 minutes and ended in a field goal, then forced a punt and went 79 yards with Mahomes finding Hardman for the touchdown.

All told, the Chiefs held the ball nearly 13 of the 15 minutes in the first quarter.

The Titans finally got going in the second, and it was Willis using his legs to get Kansas City off balance. The fleet-footed rookie twice scrambled for good yardage before Henry turned a direct snap into a 4-yard TD run.

After forcing a punt, Henry went to work again. He slipped through the line untouched and was finally dragged down 56 yards later. Then, the 247-pound running back pounded into the end zone to give the Titans a 14-9 lead.

It was Henry's 74th career touchdown run, moving him past Earl Campbell for the most in franchise history.

The Chiefs, meanwhile, were incapable of running the ball. And with the Titans no longer worried about stopping the rush, they began to relentlessly pressure Mahomes. Denico Autry's first sack forced a punt, then his second on third-and-1 near midfield prevented Kansas City from getting points just before halftime.

The Titans eventually extended the lead when Mahomes was picked off by rookie Roger McCreary, setting up Randy Bullock's 44-yard field goal. But their own offense started to fizzle, and despite Butker's missed field goal — he also missed an earlier extra point — the Chiefs managed to get the late touchdown they needed to force overtime.

“It was a struggle,” Reid said. “We were up and down and the guys hung together.”

Tannehill was limited in practice Wednesday and Friday but did not practice at all Thursday and was questionable for the game. He tried warming up but never planted his ailing ankle before walking off the field with Tennessee coach Mike Vrabel about two hours before kickoff. He was made inactive 30 minutes later.

Titans: FS Josh Thompson left in the second half with a knee injury. LB Bud Dupree left with a hip injury.

Chiefs: CB Jaylen Watson landed awkwardly on his neck in the first half, though he eventually returned to the game.

The Titans return home to face Denver on Sunday.

The Chiefs get a visit from Jacksonville on Sunday.

🏐 NW Kan. all-star volleyball match this month in Colby

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The No. 3 Fort Hays State women's basketball team held off a Southern Nazarene fourth quarter rally and beat the Crimson Storm 45-43 on the second day of the 2022 D2CCA Tip-Off Classic at Municipal Auditorium. 

The Tigers (1-1) used a barrage of 3-pointers to build an 11-point lead midway through the second quarter. After Southern Nazarene (0-2) pulled within five at halftime, the Tigers built the lead back to 11 early in the third.&nbsp;

Southern Nazarene closed within four following the fourth-quarter media timeout before Wagner buried a 3-pointer to pad the lead to seven. The Crimson Storm scored seven in a row to close within one, but after Jessie Sallach hit one of two free throws, Wagner grabbed a rebound off a missed shot to seal the win. Both teams got off to a slow start, combining for seven field goals in the opening period. The Crimson Storm led by as many as three before the Tigers scored the final five points of the frame to lead by two, 11-9.

Fort Hays State hit five-straight 3-pointers midway through the second quarter to grab the lead for good. Whitney Brown hit the first followed by three-straight from freshman Ellie Stearns. Katie Wagner buried the final&nbsp;3-pointer of the 15-4 Tiger run, putting FHSU in front 27-16 with four minutes to play before halftime.

Stearns led the Tigers with 11 points, nine of which came in the second quarter. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Patrick Mahomes rarely says the wrong thing when he stands at the podium. He is poised and polished, in victory or defeat, and has carried himself in that professional manner since he joined the Kansas City Chiefs.

So it speaks volumes of the lasting impression that&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nfl-sports-buffalo-tennessee-kansas-city-chiefs-f251d66e11d54d8174ae3cebc3dfda81">the Titans' 27-3 rout</a>&nbsp;of the Chiefs last season had on him when the Pro Bowl quarterback was asked about it this week: “We weren't ready,” Mahomes replied, “and they beat our (butt).”

Only he used a three-letter word for derrière rather than a four-letter one.

That's about as close as you'll get to Mahomes cursing in public.

“They have that mentality that they're going to come in and win,” Mahomes continued, by way of an explanation, “and a lot of times in this league, when you don't have the confidence coming in, you're going to lose. But when you have a team that is as confident as you, it's going to be a battle.”

The Titans (5-2) have every reason to be confident as they visit Kansas City (5-2) for a Sunday night showdown between divisional leaders. They've won five of the past six in the series, including a wild-card playoff game, though the one defeat happened to come in the AFC championship game and sent the Chiefs to the Super Bowl.

In any case, the Titans also roll into Arrowhead Stadium&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/carolina-panthers-jacksonville-jaguars-zac-taylor-tennessee-titans-nfl-be48a0690bee2f6b647988f812d99126">having won five straight</a>&nbsp;after an 0-2 start.

“It's tough. It's a fun place to play. It’s an atmosphere that you dream about when you’re a kid, going into a rowdy road environment. “There are going to be things that you’re going to do to try and stop him. I think the whole NFL has tried that somewhere,” said Chiefs coach Andy Reid, who is 20-3 when his teams are coming off a bye. “He’s a great player, and you’re not going to stop him on every play. You just want to get the numbers up where it’s a reasonable number of stops.”

The Chiefs did that pretty well last year, too, holding Henry to 86 yards rushing.

It didn't matter. They still lost in a blowout in Nashville that Mahomes and Co. remember to this day.

“You watch that on film and see how you played, it wasn't just them beating us,” Mahomes said. “We played bad and they just put it down on us at the end of the day. We have to understand they're going to be ready to go.”

If Tannehill isn't available, the Titans would start third-round pick Malik Willis for the second straight game. Willis was 6 of 10 for 55 yards with an interception last week against the Texans.

“It feels good to be wanted by a team,” said Toney, who has recovered from a pair of hamstring injuries. “I felt like this was a great opportunity for everybody. Fresh start for me, step into the AFC and show what I can do over here.”

The Chiefs will be playing the first of two games without defensive end Frank Clark,&nbsp;<a href="https://pro32.ap.org/article/chiefs-clark-suspended-2-games-2021-weapons-arrests">who was suspended</a>&nbsp;for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. That could mean more pass-rushing opportunities for Carlos Dunlap, who has two sacks this season and needs two more to reach 100 for his career.

“I've had a couple games now with a chance for it,” Dunlap said. “Want to get that done so I can get over that hump.”

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Two weeks ago, Texas let a game against Oklahoma State slip away in the fourth quarter.

The Longhorns weren't about to let it happen again.

After riding Bijan Robinson to a 31-10 halftime lead at Kansas State, then watching the No. 13 Wildcats come roaring back down the stretch, the Longhorns' defense stepped up one last time. Keondre Coburn stripped Adrian Martinez near midfield with 34 seconds to go, Jaylan Ford pounced on the loose ball and Texas escaped with a 34-27 victory Saturday night.

“We just understood that we're not going to lose again on the road. That's when the fight came out,” said Robinson, who ran for 209 yards and a score. “The defense came up clutch. They understood that they had to put the game on their backs and they had to stop them and execute and that's what they did.”

Quinn Ewers threw for 197 yards with two TD passes to Xavier Worthy, and Roschon Johnson added a TD run for the Longhorns (6-3, 4-2 Big 12), who control their own destiny in the race for the Big 12 title game.

They begin a three-game finishing gauntlet against No. 7 TCU next week before games against Kansas and Baylor.

“I told the guys, ‘We're not done. We have more work,'” Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian said. “We have a great opportunity ahead of us in this entire month of November. What you do in November is what everybody remembers.”

Martinez threw for 329 yards and two TDs, but he also threw an interception that turned into a Texas touchdown and had the fumble the clinched the game. Deuce Vaughn had 73 yards rushing along with 86 yards and a touchdown receiving.

"The guys stayed in the fight," said Wildcats coach Chris Klieman, whose team hasn't beaten Texas since 2016. “When you are down that big at halftime, a lot of things can go wrong. It's a credit to the character and leadership in that room.”

The momentum swung to Texas on the fourth play of the game, when Kansas State's Julius Brents earned a questionable targeting penalty, taking the Wildcats' best cover cornerback off the field for the rest of the game.

The Longhorns proceeded to reel off three straight touchdown drives, all going eight plays and 75 yards. Robinson capped the first with a 36-yard run, Johnson finished the second from nine yards out, and Worthy capitalized on Brents' absence by hauling in the first of his two TDs to give the Longhorns a 21-10 lead.

The only time Kansas State (6-3, 4-2) got off the field came when Johnson fumbled at the end of a 37-yard gain. But the Wildcats promptly punted away, Texas added a field goal, and then Martinez was picked off in the closing minutes to set up Worthy's second touchdown reception and extend the lead to 31-10 at the break.

The Longhorns had 352 yards of offense by that point against a Kansas State defense that limited Oklahoma State to 217 total in a 48-0 win last week. Robinson had bullied his way for 161 on the ground, the best half of his career.

“Bijan Robinson, period,” Klieman said. “I think he's one of the best running backs in college football for a reason.”

Kansas State mounted a second-half comeback, and it was that struggling defense that jump-started it. Josh Hayes popped another fumble loose and, after a series of penalties, Martinez scored from a yard out to make it 31-17.

Martinez then hit Kade Warner from 25 yards out on the first play of the fourth quarter to make it a touchdown game.

Texas and Kansas State promptly traded field goals, but the Wildcats' kick came after a time-consuming drive that drained more than 6 minutes off the clock. It got them within 34-27 but with just 4:26 left in the game.

The Wildcats stuffed Robinson on third down to get the ball back, and Martinez quickly moved them to midfield. But after converting fourth down with a pass to Vaughn with 34 seconds to go, the senior quarterback — getting the start over Will Howard, who had been dynamic last week against the Cowboys — fumbled the ball away.

“We had a chance to win it in the fourth quarter,” Klieman said. “We just made too many mistakes.”

Texas lost a pair of fumbles and failed to convert on fourth down, but otherwise the offense was nearly unstoppable in the first half. In the second, the Longhorns managed to make just enough to plays to keep Kansas State at bay.

Kansas State made far too many mistakes, beginning with the Brents penalty and personal fouls on center Hayden Gillum and linebacker Daniel Green. The Wildcats finished with nine penalties for 85 yards in an uncharacteristic performance by one of the better disciplined teams in the Big 12.

The Longhorns plays No. 7 TCU next Saturday night.

The Wildcats head to Baylor the same night.

HAYS, Kan. - The 2022 Fort Hays State volleyball senior class put together an impressive performance in their final contest inside Gross Memorial Coliseum Saturday evening, helping the Tigers complete the season sweep of Missouri Southern with a four-set win, 25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 25-17. Fort Hays State (11-17, 6-14 MIAA) dominated in nearly every facet of the game to win its fifth-straight over Missouri Southern (13-16, 8-12 MIAA) and even up the all-time series, 32-32. The Tigers honored six seniors at the conclusion of the match, including&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/mykah-eshbaugh/6666">Mykah Eshbaugh</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/elysia-glowacz/6668">Elysia Glowacz</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/emily-ellis/6665">Emily Ellis</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/morgan-christiansen/6663">Morgan Christiansen</a>,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/jaida-felix/6667">Jaida Felix</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/jaden-daffer/6664">Jaden Daffer</a>. Fort Hays State took control early in the first set and never let up, winning the first seven points. The Tigers later led by eight before MSSU scored seven in a row to close within one. FHSU regained momentum the rest of the way, building another eight-point lead before taking the first set by six, 25-19. Ellis and Christiansen combined for nine kills, five blocks and zero errors in the first set, swinging at a .600 clip from the middle of the net. Three big runs helped the Tigers come from behind to win the second set. MSSU grabbed eight of the first 10 points and later led by as many as seven before the Tigers started their rally. The Tigers did all they could to rally and complete the sweep, closing within one at seven different points, but the Lions held the Tigers off just enough to win 25-23. Eshbaugh took over in the fourth set, totaling six kills and zero errors on 11 swings to help the Tigers complete the win. MSSU's only lead came at 1-0 before an 8-3 run over the heart of the set helped the Tigers pull away. Up only one, 5-4, the Tigers scored eight out of 11 to build the lead to six. Glowacz, whose season was cut short due to injury, opened the evening with a ceremonial first serve before the rest of the senior class took over the rest of the way. The remaining five seniors combined for 40 kills, 36 digs, 34 assists and 15 blocks on the night. Ellis and Christiansen both totaled 14 kills, with Ellis racking up seven blocks and Christiansen tallying five. Eshbaugh contributed 12 kills, six digs and three blocks, while Felix tossed up 31 assists and nine digs. Daffer accumulated 19 digs alongside three assists and one service ace. Fort Hays State took control early in the first set and never let up, winning the first seven points. The Tigers later led by eight before MSSU scored seven in a row to close within one. FHSU regained momentum the rest of the way, building another eight-point lead before taking the first set by six, 25-19. Ellis and Christiansen combined for nine kills, five blocks and zero errors in the first set, swinging at a .600 clip from the middle of the net. Three big runs helped the Tigers come from behind to win the second set. MSSU grabbed eight of the first 10 points and later led by as many as seven before the Tigers started their rally. Two service aces from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/brooke-hyland/6835">Brooke Hyland</a>&nbsp;and a combo block from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/caiya-stucky/6838">Caiya Stucky</a>&nbsp;and Ellis helped FHSU close within two on a 5-0 run before the Tigers turned a 15-10 deficit into a 16-15 lead on another long run. Later with the score tied at 18, FHSU again scored six in a row to reach set point. Three straight kills from Ellis helped the Tigers push the lead to 24-18 before Ellis' sixth kill of the set gave the Tigers another 25-19 win. Missouri Southern led for the majority of the third set, including a six-point advantage at 14-8. The Tigers did all they could to rally and complete the sweep, closing within one at seven different points, but the Lions held the Tigers off just enough to win 25-23. Eshbaugh took over in the fourth set, totaling six kills and zero errors on 11 swings to help the Tigers complete the win. MSSU's only lead came at 1-0 before an 8-3 run over the heart of the set helped the Tigers pull away. Up only one, 5-4, the Tigers scored eight out of 11 to build the lead to six. Missouri Southern was unable to recover, with the Tigers leading by no fewer than three the rest of the way. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/riley-tinder/6674">Riley Tinder</a>&nbsp;joined the seniors in making major contributions on the stats sheet, totaling 12 digs and a team-high 21 digs for her 12th double-double of the season. The outside hitter also dropped in four service aces, her fifth match this season with at least four aces. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/claire-olson/6671">Claire Olson</a>&nbsp;added six blocks, eight digs and two kills, while Hyland racked up five digs and three aces.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/kirsten-evans/6834">Kirsten Evans</a>&nbsp;also reached double figures in digs with 15. The Tigers outhit MSSU, .167-.076, and picked up 11 more kills, 54-43. FHSU also led the way in blocks, 13-10, digs, 87-84, aces, 8-5 and assists, 49-35. Fort Hays State finished the regular season in ninth place in the MIAA, two games behind MSSU and Missouri Western for the final spots in the MIAA Championship Tournament.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Jayhawks (6-3, 3-3 Big 12 Conference) are bowl eligible for the first time since 2008 when they beat Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.

It just means a lot more to me especially just because I grew up here just two miles way from campus.”Jason Bean was efficient in the air, too. He went 18-for-23 passing for 203 yards with two touchdowns while rushing for a 72-yard touchdown.Neal and Bean combined for 237 yards on the ground in the first half with two touchdowns. Bean gained 93 yards on four carries while Neal had six catches.“The performance of Devin Neal was just outstanding,” Leipold said. "We had talked about how we needed him to have one of those games, and he answered that. "Kansas benefited from Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders not playing, with freshman Garrett Rangel throwing interceptions on the Cowboys' first two drives. Rangel went 27 of 40 for 304 yards and two touchdowns.Bryan Green had nine catches for 105 yards for Oklahoma State.Oklahoma State had four turnovers, which resulted in 14 points for Kansas.“Obviously turnovers made it difficult for us today,” Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said. “We have to be able to defend the rush on defense and keep working on trying to run the ball a little better on offense.”The Cowboys scored a touchdown with 10 minutes left in the second quarter, their first points in 83 game minutes spanning over their last three.
