ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Three months ago, Broncos running back Latavius Murray was at home thinking his career may be done.

The 32-year-old even started coaching at a local high school.

That assignment lasted all of one day before New Orleans brought him in. 

Denver later signed him off the Saints practice squad and he turned into the Broncos leading rusher this season.

He had a 130-yard, one-touchdown performance against Arizona that earned him a game ball in the locker room.

The Broncos play in Los Angeles against the Rams on Christmas Day in a matchup of 4-10 teams.

AUSTIN, Texas – Fort Hays State sophomore Alex Schremmer
 was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team
 on Tuesday. 

Schremmer was a second-team selection as a 
special teams player after serving as a kick and punt returner in 2022. 
Sports Information and Athletic Communication professionals nationwide 
vote on the Academic All-America Team, which reflects both academic and 
athletic accomplishments of the individuals selected. 
Schremmer has a 3.87 cumulative grade point average as a biology major 
at FHSU. He had earned the MIAA Academic Excellence Award (cumulative 
4.0 GPA) twice prior to this year. 
On the field, Schremmer finished 2022 with 253 total kick return yards 
(197 kickoff and 56 punt). He averaged 21.9 yards on kickoff returns and
 14.0 on punt returns. In the previous season, Schremmer had 162 yards 
as a wide receiver to go along with 217 total return yards. 
Schremmer is the 15th individual in FHSU Football history to 
earn Academic All-America honors from College Sports Communicators 
(formerly known as CoSIDA).

Connor Shedeed was the last Tiger football 
student-athlete to earn the honor, receiving first-team honors as a 
defensive back in 2018.

FHSU had eight individuals considered for 
Academic All-America selection this year at their respective positions 
after receiving All-District honors.

Tomlin scored six points during an 11-0 run as Kansas State took the first double-digit lead of the game at 45-35 with 14:22 remaining.

🏀 Tomlin scores 26; K-State holds off Radford 73-65

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Franco Harris, the Hall of Fame running back whose heads-up thinking authored “The Immaculate Reception,” considered the most iconic play in NFL history, has died. He was 72.

Harris' son Dok told The Associated Press his father passed away overnight. No cause of death was given.

His death comes two days before the 50th anniversary of the play that provided the jolt that helped transform the Steelers from also-rans into the NFL's elite and three days before Pittsburgh is scheduled to retire his No. 32 during a ceremony at halftime of its game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Harris ran for 12,120 yards and won four Super Bowl rings with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1970s, a dynasty that began in earnest when Harris decided to keep running during a last-second heave by Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw in a playoff game against Oakland in 1972.

With Pittsburgh trailing 7-6 and facing fourth-and-10 from their own 40 yard line and 22 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Bradshaw drifted back and threw deep to running back French Fuqua. Fuqua and Oakland defensive back Jack Tatum collided, sending the ball careening back toward midfield in the direction of Harris.

While nearly everyone else on the field stopped, Harris kept his legs churning, snatching the ball just inches above the Three Rivers Stadium turf near the Oakland 45 then outracing several stunned Raider defenders to give the Steelers their first playoff victory in the franchise's four-decade history.

“That play really represents our teams of the ’70s,” Harris said after the ”Immaculate Reception" was voted the greatest play in NFL history during the league's 100th anniversary season in 2020.

While the Steelers fell the next week to Miami in the AFC Championship, Pittsburgh was on its way to becoming the dominant team of the 1970s, twice winning back-to-back Super Bowls, first after the 1974 and 1975 seasons and again after the 1978 and 1979 seasons.

Harris, the 6-foot-2, 230-pound workhorse from Penn State, found himself in the center of it all. He churned for a then-record 158 yards rushing and a touchdown in Pittsburgh's 16-6 victory over Minnesota in Super Bowl IX on his way to winning the game's Most Valuable Player award. He scored at least once in three of the four Super Bowls he played in, and his 354 career yards rushing on the NFL's biggest stage remains a record nearly four decades after his retirement.

Born in Fort Dix, New Jersey, on March 7, 1950, Harris played collegiately at Penn State, where his primary job was to open holes for backfield mate Lydell Mitchell. The Steelers, in the final stages of a rebuild led by Hall of Fame coach Chuck Noll, saw enough in Harris to make him the 13th overall pick in the 1972 draft.

“When (Noll) drafted Franco Harris, he gave the offense heart, he gave it discipline, he gave it desire, he gave it the ability to win a championship in Pittsburgh,” Steelers Hall of Fame wide receiver Lynn Swann said of his frequent roommate on team road trips.

Harris' impact was immediate. He won the NFL's Rookie to the Year award in 1972 after rushing for a then-team-rookie record 1,055 yards and 10 touchdowns as the Steelers reached the postseason for just the second time in franchise history.

The city's large Italian-American population embraced Harris immediately, led by two local businessmen who founded what became known as “Franco's Italian Army,” a nod to Harris' roots as the son of an African-American father and an Italian mother.

The “Immaculate Reception” made Harris a star, though he typically preferred to let his play and not his mouth do the talking. On a team that featured big personalities in Bradshaw, defensive tackle Joe Greene, linebacker Jack Lambert among others, the intensely quiet Harris spent 12 seasons as the engine that helped Pittsburgh's offense go.

Eight times he topped 1,000 yards rushing in a season, including five times while playing a 14-game schedule. He piled up another 1,556 yards rushing and 16 rushing touchdowns in the playoffs, both second all-time behind Smith.

Despite his gaudy numbers, Harris stressed he was just one cog in an extraordinary machine that redefined greatness.

“You see, during that era, each player brought their own little piece with them to make that wonderful decade happen,” Harris said during his Hall of Fame speech in 1990. “Each player had their strengths and weaknesses, each their own thinking, each their own method, just each, each had their own. But then it was amazing, it all came together, and it stayed together to forge the greatest team of all times.”

Harris also made it a habit to stick up for his teammates. When Bradshaw took what Harris felt was an illegal late hit from Dallas linebacker Thomas “Hollywood” Henderson in the second half of their meeting in the 1978 Super Bowl, Harris basically demanded Bradshaw give him the ball on the next play. All Harris did was sprint up the middle 22 yards — right by Henderson — for a touchdown that gave the Steelers an 11-point lead they would not relinquish on their way to their third championship in six years.

Despite all of his success, his time in Pittsburgh ended acrimoniously when the Steelers cut him after he held out during training camp before the 1984 season. Noll, who leaned on Harris so heavily for so long, famously answered “Franco who?” when asked about Harris' absence from the team's camp at Saint Vincent College.

Harris signed with Seattle, running for just 170 yards in eight games before being released in midseason. He retired as the NFL's third all-time leading rusher behind Walter Payton and Jim Brown.

"I don’t even think about that (anymore),” Harris said in 2006. “I’m still black and gold.”

Harris remained in Pittsburgh following his retirement, opening a bakery and becoming heavily involved in several charities, including serving as the chairman of “Pittsburgh Promise," which provides college scholarship opportunities for Pittsburgh Public School students.

Harris is survived by his wife Dana Dokmanovich and his son, Dok.

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team knocked down 50 percent from the floor for a second night in a row in a 80-46 win over Bethany Monday evening (Dec. 19). The Tigers (11-3) never trailed in the contest en route to their ninth-consecutive victory.

🏀 Tiger women pull away in second half in win over Swedes

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State got a very balanced scoring effort in an 83-61 win over Newman University on Sunday afternoon at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Tigers had six players score in double figures and nearly and had one player shy by just one point of making it seven. The Tigers improved to 8-3 overall, 3-2 in the MIAA, while the Jets fell to 5-7 overall and 1-5 in the MIAA.

Newman held two brief leads in the early going but the Tigers used a 12-0 run to take the lead for good, up 15-5 just over six minutes into the contest. The Tigers kept their lead in double figures from the 12:52 mark of the first half through the remainder of the game. FHSU led by as many as 25 twice in the opening half before holding a 47-28 advantage at the half. Newman cut the lead to 15 twice in the second half, but the Tigers kept the Jets from making any big runs. The FHSU lead reached 23 twice in the second half before settling at the final margin of 22.

Subbing for Russell Wilson, who was held out for safety reasons after clearing the concussion protocol, Rypien had 197 yards passing and one interception. McCoy took over for Kyler Murray, who's out for the season with a torn ACL. McCoy was 13 of 21 for 78 yards and was picked off by Simmons late in the first quarter.

The only offense generated by the Cardinals early on were three field goals by former Bronco Matt Prater. James Conner had a late TD run but a 2-point pass was broken up. The Cardinals (4-10) have lost four straight.

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team forced 25 turnovers and knocked down a season-high nine 3-pointers in an 83-51 win over Newman Sunday afternoon. Both teams got out to a slow start, but Fort Hays State got things going late in the first quarter. With the score tied at 10 through eight minutes of play, the Tigers used a 17-4 run over the next six minutes of action to take control. The Tiger defense created many of the scoring opportunities, creating nine turnovers during the run.

Newman closed within seven later in the second quarter before the Tigers took an 11-point lead into the locker room, 38-27. After hitting 60 percent from the floor in the second quarter, the Tigers turned things up another notch in the third frame with a shooting percentage of 64.3 percent. 🏀 Tiger women win eighth straight, run away from Jets

HOUSTON (AP) — Wearing shirts that read “Conquered the West” and baseball caps commemorating their AFC West title, the Kansas City Chiefs celebrated winning the division for a seventh straight season after outlasting the Houston Texans in overtime Sunday.

Amid the jubilation, their star quarterback was quick to point out the feat was only the beginning of what they hope to do this season.

“When we start every season, the first thing we get told when we first walk in is let’s win the AFC West,” Patrick Mahomes said. "That’s our first goal ... (and) we accomplished our first goal.”

<a href="https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1604586048893263872?s=20&amp;t=hoGsNrx_n2wqAkDjbTa0Iw">Jerick McKinnon had a 26-yard touchdown run in overtime</a>&nbsp;and the Chiefs got three touchdowns from Mahomes in the 30-24 win.

The Chiefs (11-3) got the ball first in overtime but had to punt it away after Mahomes was sacked by Blake Cashman on third down. Texans quarterback Davis Mills fumbled on a scramble on Houston’s first play, and it was recovered by Kansas City's Willie Gay on the Texans’ 26.

McKinnon, who also had a TD reception, dashed untouched into the end zone on the next play.

He said Mahomes reminded him before the play to keep two hands on the ball.

“I said: ‘I’m about to score,’” McKinnon said. “Juju (Smith-Schuster) looked at me and said: ‘I’ve got your block, bro. Just find me when you get out there’. And it worked out exactly like that.”

Houston (1-12-1) tied it at 24 on a 29-yard field goal with about five minutes to go in the fourth quarter. The Chiefs had a chance to win it in regulation, but Harrison Butker’s 51-yard attempt was wide right.

Kansas City overcame two turnovers and a season-high 102 penalty yards to win for the seventh time in eight games.

Mills threw for 121 yards and two touchdowns sharing time at quarterback with Jeff Driskel. The Texans dropped their ninth straight game for their longest skid since losing the final 14 games of the 2013 season.

“That team out there has won one game but they’re not playing like that,” coach Lovie Smith said. “They’re showing up every day, taking coaching, getting better and coming into the game and giving ourselves a chance to win."

Kansas City’s streak of division titles is tied with the Rams (1973-79) for the second-longest in NFL history behind the Patriots, who captured 11 in a row in the AFC East from 2009-2019.

“I think one of the most difficult things in the National Football League is consistent success," Kansas City owner Clark Hunt said. "The rules are designed to make that difficult, whether that’s the draft or the salary cap. So, it’s a real testament to the job that general manager Brett Veach and coach Andy Reid have done over the last several years.”

The Chiefs trailed for much of the day and were behind by five early in the fourth quarter&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/Chiefs/status/1604575019585404928?s=20&amp;t=hoGsNrx_n2wqAkDjbTa0Iw">when Mahomes dashed in from 5 yards out</a>. His 2-point conversion pass to McKinnon came next to give Kansas City a 24-21 lead.

Mahomes thew for 336 yards and had touchdown passes of 20 and 4 yards. He has 35 TD passes this season to become the fifth player in NFL history with 35 or more touchdown tosses in four or more seasons, joining Tom Brady (6), Aaron Rodgers (6), Drew Brees (4) and Peyton Manning (4).

Mahomes, who is from Tyler, Texas, and starred at Texas Tech, played his first NFL game in the state in his sixth professional season. The crowd was overwhelmingly made up of Chiefs fans, many of whom wore his No. 15 jersey. A handful donned his scarlet and black Texas Tech jersey.

The Chiefs piled up 502 yards to set a franchise record with their 19th straight game with at least 300 yards, and it was their ninth in a row with more than 400 yards.

Travis Kelce had 102 yards receiving and Smith-Schuster had 88 yards receiving for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs led 16-14 after a field goal early in the third and were driving again when Tremon Smith forced a fumble by Smith-Schuster that the Texans recovered near midfield. It wasn’t ruled a fumble initially, but Houston challenged the call and it was reversed.

Houston cashed in on the mistake when Mills threw a 12-yard TD to Jordan Akins on third down to make it 21-16.

Houston took a 7-0 lead when Mills connected with Teagan Quitoriano on an 8-yard TD throw late in the first quarter. That score was set up when the Chiefs were flagged for pass interference on third-and-10 two plays earlier to give the Texans a first down at the 4.

Mahomes connected with McKinnon for a 20-yard score on Kansas City’s next drive to tie it at 7-7.

Mario Addison forced a fumble by Isiah Pacheco later in the second quarter and the Texans recovered on the Kansas City 17. Two plays later&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1604552344615522304?s=20&amp;t=hoGsNrx_n2wqAkDjbTa0Iw">Mills scrambled 17 yards for a score</a>&nbsp;to put Houston on top 14-7.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught a 4-yard pass from Mahomes for a touchdown just before halftime, but the extra point sailed wide left to leave Houston up 14-13 at halftime.

🏈 McKinnon's 26-yard run in OT lifts Chiefs over Texans

INDIANAPOLIS - All three Fort Hays State wrestlers competing on day two of the Midwest Classic placed in their individual weights. Fourth-ranked&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/tereus-henry/7220">Tereus Henry</a>&nbsp;finished as the runner-up at 197 pounds,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/cade-lindsey/7240">Cade Lindsey</a>&nbsp;captured third-place at 174 pounds, and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/mason-turner/7231">Mason Turner</a>&nbsp;finished eighth at 133 pounds.

Henry advanced to the finals via medical forfeit to face top-ranked Dalton Abney from Central Oklahoma. After a scoreless first period, Abney scored an escape early in the second period to take a lead 1-0. Henry also scored an escape in the third period, but not before Abney racked up enough riding time to give him the win by 2-1 decision. Henry finished the tournament 4-1 with three bonus point wins.

Lindsey scored first-round pins against two ranked opponents on his way to the consolation semifinals. He started the day with a fall in 2:21 over eighth-ranked Jack Bond of Lander University before pinning ninth-ranked Cole Hernandez of Western Colorado in less than a minute. Lindsey managed a 2-0 decision over Tre'Vaughn Craig of UCO to reach the third-place match. In the placement match, Lindsey controlled the pace for the entire match accumulating over three minutes of riding time and secured a bronze finish with a 4-0 decision. Lindsey finished the tournament 7-1 with four bonus point victories, including three-consecutive first period falls.

Turner started his day with an 11-0 major decision but lost his next two matches to capture eighth-place falling by major decision in the consolation quarterfinals before defaulting the seventh-place match with an injury. Turner finished the tournament 3-2 with a pair of bonus point wins.

The Tigers finished tied for 11th&nbsp;as a team with 60 points. Third-ranked Central Oklahoma won the tournament as a team with 178.5 points and claimed three individual championships.

FHSU will be back on the mat January 6-7 in Louisville, Kentucky for the NWCA National Duals.

Fourth-ranked&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/tereus-henry/7220">Tereus Henry</a>&nbsp;finished as the runner-up at 197 pounds,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/cade-lindsey/7240">Cade Lindsey</a>&nbsp;captured third-place at 174 pounds, and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/mason-turner/7231">Mason Turner</a>&nbsp;finished eighth at 133 pounds.Henry advanced to the finals via medical forfeit to face top-ranked Dalton Abney from Central Oklahoma. After a scoreless first period, Abney scored an escape early in the second period to take a lead 1-0. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -&nbsp;On day one of the Midwest Classic (Dec. 17), Fort Hays State had three wrestlers get through to the second day of competition. Fourth-ranked&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/tereus-henry/7220">Tereus Henry</a>&nbsp;(197) guaranteed his placement in the top six in his weight class by reaching the semifinals, while&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/mason-turner/7231">Mason Turner</a>&nbsp;(133) and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/wrestling/roster/cade-lindsey/7240">Cade Lindsey</a>&nbsp;(174) both remain alive in the consolation bracket. The Tigers have made a strong showing so far with 31 team points, ranking 17th&nbsp;in the tournament. The Tiger trio will compete on Sunday (Dec. 18) with action beginning at 8 a.m. CT.

Henry dominated his way to the semifinals winning each of his matches in bonus-point fashion. After a first period fall in the opening round, he scored a technical fall to reach the quarterfinals. Henry faced eighth-ranked Walker Uhl of Ashland to reach the semifinals and came out victorious with a 14-1 major decision. After entering the third-period leading only 1-0, Henry held Uhl down for the majority of the period and managed to turn him three different times to rack up some near-fall points. Uhl managed to escape late in the match, but Henry took him down again with four seconds remaining to secure his place in the semifinals. He will face Dalton Hahn of Upper Iowa for a chance at to reach the finals.

Turner reached the quarterfinals with a first period fall in the opening round before taking down 12th-ranked Kaden Anderlik of Upper Iowa in a 4-0 decision. In the quarterfinals, Turner faced 10th-ranked Reece Barnhardt from the University of Mary and fell just short of guaranteed placement in a 10-4 decision. He will start Sunday's action in the consolation bracket against JP Homfeld from Maryville.

Lindsey won his first match by technical fall before facing sixth-ranked Max Bruss of the University of Mary and missed the quarterfinals in a 7-5 decision. The first-year Tiger picked up wins by decision and first-period pinfall to remain in the consolation bracket. Lindsey will face eighth-ranked Jack Bond of Lander University to start Sunday.

After winning his first round match by a first period fall, Caldwell dropped a tight 2-0 decision to Johnny Green of Ouachita Baptist. On the consolation side, Caldwell picked up two more bonus point wins with a 9-0 major decision and a pinfall, but his day came to an end against Ryan Herman of Maryville by fall in the first period.

Kansas State improved to 10-1 under Jeremy Tang, who owns the best start by a first-year coach in school history. The Wildcats now are 9-2 in the classic and improved to 20-3 all-time against former conference foe Nebraska (6-6).

David N'Guessan dunked with a second left to send Kansas State into intermission with a 13-point advantage, 39-26 and pushed the lead to as much as 19 points after a Johnson layup with just under nine minutes left.

But the Wildcats' offense went silent for more than five minutes while Nebraska cut the deficit to nine, 59-50 before Nae'Qwan Tomlin drilled a 3 with 3:26 left. Jamarques Lawrence hit a 3 with 1:20 left to get the Cornhuskers within seven, 62-55, but they did not score again until Emmanuel Bandoumel hit the second of two free throws with 17 seconds left.

Johnson and Markquis Nowell came into the game averaging 31.4 points per game and is one of three duos to average more than 30 points per game in the Big 12. Nowell scored 11 points, delivered seven assists and had a pair of steals. The duo combined for 34 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists and six steals. Tomlin finished with 15 points and seven rebounds and Cam Carter added 10 points.

🏀 Kansas State wins 11th Wildcat Classic, beats Nebraska 

Hays High traveled to Wichita on Saturday to wrap up the 2022 portion of the basketball season. The Indians took on Wichita South at Southeast High School. Girls #10-5A Hays 38 - #9-6A Girls 45 A 17-4 second half run for South proved too much for Hays to overcome in a 45-38 loss for the Indians.

Neither team led by more than five points in the first half when the Titans took a 13-8 advantage in the second quarter. Hays battled back to tie the game at 16-16 by halftime.

The Indians last lead came in the third quarter at 22-19. That is when the Titans started their 17-4 run that lasted six minutes and into the fourth quarter.&nbsp;

Hays got within five points on four occasions, but never any closer, falling 45-38.

Carly Lang led the Indians with 16 points and a career high 12 rebounds. Molly Martin added 10 points. Mahogany Butler led South with 21 points.

Hays falls to 4-2 heading into the Christmas break. South improves to 4-1.

Boys Hays 58 - Wichita South 50

A cold shooting first quarter for Hays couldn't hold the Indians from a 58-50 win over South.

The Indians made just 2 of their first 12 shots against the Titans' zone defense, but led 9-6 after one quarter. South took a brief 10-9 lead before Hays went on a 14-0 run to establish a 23-10 advantage.

After leading by 11 at halftime and pushing their advantage to 14 in the third, Hays saw their lead trimmed to five before the fourth quarter started. South used a 14-5 run over three minutes to make the score 44-39.

The Indians made three fourth quarter field goals but knocked in enough free throws to hold for a 58-50 victory. South got within four at 50-46 but never any closer.

Hays was led by a career day by Chason VanDerWege and Jack Weimer in both points and rebounds. VanDerWege scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his first double-double. Weimer added 23 points, making nine of ten free throws, and snagged four boards.

Hays improves to 3-3 while South falls to 1-4.

The Indians resume play in 2023 when they travel to Liberal and open Western Athletic Conference play.

Hays High girls fall, boys win to wrap up 2022

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas coach Bill Self acknowledged his No. 8 Jayhawks have played some high-level hoops the past eight days, beginning with a blowout of then-unbeaten Missouri and finishing with an 84-62 romp over No. 14 Indiana on Saturday.

To clarify: They're playing at a high level in games.

“We're not a great practice team,” Self said with a smile.

That just might be the only fault he can find these days. Gradey Dick had 20 points to lead six Kansas players in double figures scoring Saturday. Dajuan Harris Jr. had 10 points and 10 assists while Kevin McCullar Jr. had 11 points and 11 boards. And the Jayhawks (10-1) forced 23 turnovers that often turned into easy baskets at the other end.

“I think we're getting better,” Self said. “That's the best we've defended all year.”

Indiana (8-3) played most of the way without second-leading scorer Xavier Johnson, who hurt his right ankle less than 10 minutes into the game. The senior guard, who’d been averaging 10.9 points and 5.2 assists, was hurt scrambling for a loose ball. He returned on crutches wearing a walking boot to watch the second half from the bench.

By that point, Kansas already had jumped to a big early lead that eventually swelled to 22 in the first half. And while the Hoosiers briefly got within 10 in the second half, the Jayhawks simply turned up the pressure and pulled away again.

“It didn't help that we lost Xavier early on,” Indiana coach Mike Woodson said, “but at the end of the day, it's next man up.”

Trayce Jackson-Davis had 13 points and nine blocks for the Hoosiers, who couldn't overcome 23 turnovers and a 50-24 disparity on points in the paint. Race Thompson and Jalen Hood-Schifino added 11 points apiece.

“We just didn't compete. That's all I can say,” Woodson said, “and that's just kind of upsetting because I mean, this team — we were matched up from a statistical standpoint going into this game. We were a dead-even team, pretty much. And they came out and took it right to us and we didn't respond.”

The Hoosiers, who had lost two of their last three, were fortunate to be within 44-29 at halftime.

Much like last week's win over the Tigers, the Jayhawks made their first four shots, held Indiana to a single field goal over the first 5 minutes and jumped to a 21-8 lead. And it only continued to swell as Dick heated up from beyond the arc, Jalen Wilson continued to get to the basket and KJ Adams provided a physical paint presence.

By the time Dick knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers, and Bobby Pettiford Jr. coasted in for a layup, the defending national champions had pushed their advantage over the Hoosiers to 42-20 — their biggest of the half.

“We had a whole week to come in here and prepare for them and we did just that,” Dick said. “We came out with energy and that just picks everything up, and our defense transitions into offense.”

Indiana gained a little momentum in the closing minutes of the first half, then stormed out of the locker room and kept trimming its deficit. Jackson-Davis, who had been quiet in the first half, asserted himself in the paint, and it was his basket with 16 minutes to go that got the Hoosiers within 48-38 and forced Self to call timeout.

It was the only run the Hoosiers had in them.
