MANHATTAN — Troy Schulte and Dave Losey are both quite familiar with the mixed bag of emotions that go along with playing in a state basketball tournament.

Back in 1988, the standout duo helped lead Thomas More Prep-Marian to the Class 4A state tournament but lost in the first round.

They were again instrumental in helping the Monarchs advance to the Class 4A state championship game the next year.

Thirty-four years laster, the duo reunited at the Class 2A State Championships in Manhattan this past week.

There were a lot of ups and also some downs in 1989 for Schulte and Losey, who enjoyed a successful senior season but were disappointed about losing the championship game in that 4A state finale.

It was an emotional roller-coaster ride for them again this weekend.

Schulte is now the activities director at TMP, and Losey is the head basketball coach at Horton in northeast Kansas.&nbsp;

As luck would have it, when the brackets for this year’s 2A state tourney were released, TMP and Horton were paired together in the first round.

Losey, in his first year as the Chargers’ head coach, was still trying to wrap his mind around the fact that his team had dominated Riverside in the sub-state title game.

Horton hadn’t had a winning season since 2016 and had endured back-to-back two-win seasons during that stretch.&nbsp;

Under Losey this year, the Chargers rebounded from a midseason slump when they lost six of seven games to win nine of their last 10 and advance to state.

“It was all pretty surreal, even getting to state,” admitted Losey, who started three juniors and two sophomores this season. “Then when I saw we were opening state with TMP, I was stunned.”

TMP was entering state on a 20-game winning streak with its senior-laden squad, and Losey knew his young team was in for a battle in the first round.

The more experienced TMP won that game, 52-27, ending Horton’s late-season run.

Nonetheless, Losey knew he would return to Manhattan for the tournament later in the weekend to support the Monarchs.

TMP seemed to have the game in hand late in both Friday’s semifinals and again in Saturday’s third-place game before coming up on the short end of both close contests.

The former teammates are now in their early 50s, carrying a few more pounds and sporting a little less hair.

But they have had mutual respect for each other since Schulte’s eighth-grade team at Kennedy Middle School in Hays handed Losey’s Plainville squad its only loss during the 1984-85 season.

Following graduation from college, they both went into teaching and coaching and even coached together at the same school in Missouri one year.

“We’ve known each other for a long time,” Schulte said. “So it was really nice to reconnect.”

Losey and Schulte met in the arena before the first-round game, and Losey made the trip to Manhattan again for Friday’s semifinals.

“We knew that was going to be a tough game against TMP,” Losey said. “But I still wanted to see (the Monarchs) do well the rest of the tournament. It’s always great to see your alma mater succeed.”

NWester: State tournament reunites former Monarch teammates

&nbsp; MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Kansas State was rewarded for a successful season on Sunday night, as the Wildcats earned their 32nd overall bid to the NCAA Tournament, including the first under head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/jerome-tang/1856">Jerome Tang</a>.

No. 12/12 K-State (23-9, 11-7 Big 12) was selected as the No. 3 seed in the East Regional and will travel to Greensboro, N.C., to play No. 14 seed Montana State (25-9, 15-3 Big Sky) in the first round on Friday, March 17 at the Greensboro Coliseum. The winner will advance to play the winner of the No. 6 seed Kentucky (21-11, 12-6 SEC) and No. 11 seed Providence (21-11, 13-7 BIG EAST) on Sunday, March 19. K-State and Montana State will tip off at 8:40 p.m., CT (9:40 p.m., ET) on CBS with&nbsp;Ian Eagle,&nbsp;Jim Spanarkel&nbsp;and&nbsp;Evan Washburn&nbsp;on the call. It will be proceeded by the Kentucky-Providence game, which is set for 6:10 p.m., CT (7:10 p.m., CT), also on CBS. 🏀 Kansas State earns No. 3 seed in East Region, opens with Montana State

Kansas is the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament's West Region&nbsp;and will have coach Bill Self back on the sideline.

Self missed the Big 12 Tournament after undergoing a heart procedure, but the school announced Sunday&nbsp;he will return to lead the third-ranked Jayhawks against Howard in Des Moines, Iowa, on Thursday.

Kansas (27-7) won its first two games at the Big 12 Tournament without Self before losing 76-56 to NO. 7 Texas&nbsp;in the title game.

The Jayhawks appeared as though they would slip to a No. 2 seed when top-ranked Houston got the top spot in the Midwest, but the NCAA selection committee still made them the No. 1 in a West Region that ends in Las Vegas on March 23-25.

Kansas faces a difficult road in its bid to become college basketball's first repeat champion since Florida in 2006-07.

The stacked West Region includes No. 2 UCLA, No. 9 Gonzaga, No. 11 UConn, No. 16 Saint Mary's and No. 22 TCU.

Get by Howard, which is in its first NCAA Tournament since 1992, and the Jayhawks will get a stiff test in the second round against Arkansas or Illinois.

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Softball picked up a split in its doubleheader with Missouri Western on Sunday at Tiger Stadium. The Griffons took game one 8-2, but the Tigers bounced for a come-from-behind 3-2 win in game two. FHSU is now 13-9 overall, 2-2 in the MIAA, while MWSU went to 11-4 overall, 1-1 in the MIAA. Game 1: Missouri Western 8, Fort Hays State 2 Missouri Western built an 8-0 lead in game one with two runs in the second, two in the third, and four in the fourth. They were one out away from invoking the run rule in the fifth, but&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/peyton-shepard/7094">Peyton Shepard</a>&nbsp;legged out an infield RBI single to score&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/regan-curry/7080">Regan Curry</a>&nbsp;who led off the inning with a hit. The Tigers got another run in the sixth on back-to-back doubles by&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/loren-beggs/7075">Loren Beggs</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/lilliana-ramirez-johnson/7093">Lilliana Ramirez-Johnson</a>&nbsp;to make it 8-2, which turned out to be the final. Egger struck out eight Griffons in 5.2 innings of work, while Schmidt fanned one in her 1.1 innings thrown. Kennedy Preston collected three of seven RBIs in the game for MWSU. Sam Pederson threw a complete game for the Griffons, allowing two runs on six hits with five strikeouts. She remained unbeaten on the season, now at 5-0. Game 2: Fort Hays State 3, Missouri Western 2 Fort Hays State fell behind 1-0 in the second contest of the day, but turned the tide in its favor in the fourth inning on a two-run home run by&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/carly-stuke/7096">Carly Stuke</a>. Harley Pruetting leveled the score in the fifth with a solo homer for the Griffons, but the Tigers benefitted from a pair of errors in the bottom of the fifth to manufacture a run and take the lead for good at 3-2.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/loren-beggs/7075">Loren Beggs</a>&nbsp;knocked in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly. Pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/emma-montoya/7092">Emma Montoya</a>&nbsp;and the Tigers were able to dance out of danger several times throughout the contest. In the first, Missouri Western tried to execute a double steal of second and home, but&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/adysen-burghart/7077">Adysen Burghart</a>&nbsp;cut down the runner at the plate to keep the inning scoreless. Montoya escaped a bases-loaded situation in the fourth with a strikeout of red-hot Mackenzie DeVine, who was 4-for-4 on the day to that point. With runners at second and third in the sixth she got DeVine again, this time looking at strike three to get the second out, and then&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/peyton-shepard/7094">Peyton Shepard</a>&nbsp;tracked a ball down in foul territory for the third out. In the seventh, the Griffons led off with a single and got the runner to third before Montoya punched out Rian Gere looking to end the game. Montoya threw 146 pitches in her complete-game win to move to 2-1 on the season. She struck out eight and allowed seven hits and seven walks. Pruetting was the starting pitcher for the Griffons and lasted 3.0 innings. She gave up two runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts before handing the ball to Natalie Kissinger in the fourth following Stuke's home run. Kissinger did not allow a hit and struck out four, but took the loss with the run surrendered in the fifth via a pair of errors, a walk, and the sac fly by Beggs. The Tigers step outside of conference play for their next eight games. They play doubleheaders at MSU Denver and CSU-Pueblo in Colorado on Tuesday (Mar. 14) and Wednesday (Mar. 15) this week, then host Colorado School of Mines for a four-game series on March 21-22 before returning to MIAA play.&nbsp;&nbsp;

With runners at second and third in the sixth she got DeVine again, this time looking at strike three to get the second out, and then&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/peyton-shepard/7094">Peyton Shepard</a>&nbsp;tracked a ball down in foul territory for the third out. In the seventh, the Griffons led off with a single and got the runner to third before Montoya punched out Rian Gere looking to end the game. Montoya threw 146 pitches in her complete-game win to move to 2-1 on the season. She struck out eight and allowed seven hits and seven walks. Pruetting was the starting pitcher for the Griffons and lasted 3.0 innings. She gave up two runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts before handing the ball to Natalie Kissinger in the fourth following Stuke's home run. Kissinger did not allow a hit and struck out four, but took the loss with the run surrendered in the fifth via a pair of errors, a walk, and the sac fly by Beggs. The Tigers step outside of conference play for their next eight games. They play doubleheaders at MSU Denver and CSU-Pueblo in Colorado on Tuesday (Mar. 14) and Wednesday (Mar. 15) this week, then host Colorado School of Mines for a four-game series on March 21-22 before returning to MIAA play.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Scott totaled three hits and drove in two runs from the top spot in the order, while Olivas was 1-for-3 with two RBI and two walks from the ninth spot in the lineup. The Tigers will wrap up their homestand Tuesday (March 14) when they host Newman in a midweek conference battle beginning at 3 p.m. at Larks Park.

⚾ Tiger rally falls one run short

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas coach Bill Self was discharged from a Kansas City-area hospital Sunday, where he had been recovering after a procedure to treat blocked arteries in his heart, and the Hall of Famer plans to rejoin the No. 3 Jayhawks as they begin defense of their NCAA championship this week.

Self went to the emergency room Wednesday night, shortly after watching his team in a final shootaround ahead of the Big 12 Tournament, and was complaining of chest tightness and concerns with his balance.

Dr. Mark Wiley, the chief of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Kansas Health System, said Self underwent a standard heart catheterization and had two stents placed to help treat the blocked arteries.

“Coach Self responded well to the procedure and is expected to make a full recovery,” Wiley said.

The Jayhawks were coached in the Big 12 Tournament by Norm Roberts, who also served as acting coach earlier in the season, while Self was serving a school-imposed four-game suspension. They beat West Virginia and Iowa State before&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/texas-kansas-big-12-championship-bf4ed2d79c080f679edd12f05954db2b">getting blown out 76-56 by seventh-ranked Texas</a>&nbsp;in Saturday night's championship game.

Afterward, Roberts said he expected Self to coach the Jayhawks in the NCAA Tournament.

“I’m so thankful for the amazing staff at the University of Kansas Health System for the excellent care I received,” Self said in a statement. "I am proud of our team and coaching staff for how they have handled this and am excited to be back with them as the best time of the season gets underway.”

The 60-year-old Self is 581-130 during his two decades at Kansas, and is 788-235 in his 30 seasons as a head coach, which includes stops at Oral Roberts, Tulsa and Illinois. He led the Jayhawks to their fifth national title in 2008 with an overtime win over Memphis. Kansas hung its sixth banner in Allen Fieldhouse after its win over North Carolina last April.

The Jayhawks, who won the regular-season Big 12 title, hardly seemed to be bothered by their lackluster loss to Texas, when they were also missing injured defensive stopper Kevin McCullar Jr. Instead, they were looking forward to the NCAA tourney and getting both McCullar and their coach back on the court.

“We already brushed it off,” Kansas guard Dajuan Harris Jr. said in its mostly empty locker room Saturday night. “We’ve just got to get ready for March Madness. It’s a quick turnaround and a new season.”

🏀 Kansas coach Bill Self out of hospital after heart procedure

HUTCHINSON — The Hutchinson Community College Football team &nbsp;coach Phil Serchia announced via his Twitter account that he will be joining the staff of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Serchia spent the past three seasons with the Blue Dragons as its offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

Serchia joins another former Blue Dragon coach in Brandon Staley who was the associate head coach and defensive coordinator back in 2010-11 with the Dragons.&nbsp;

Staley was named head coach of the Chargers in January 2021.

Serchia and his wife Alyssa have two daughters, Makena and Hallie, and one son, Kaden.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The players flooded off the Texas bench, right past interim coach Rodney Terry and to the middle of the court inside T-Mobile Center, where they couldn't wait to get their hands on the trophy crowning them Big 12 champions.

After the season they had, who could blame them?

It began under the darkest of clouds with their high-profile coach, Chris Beard, fired following a domestic incident. Terry was given the job and the tall task of guiding the Longhorns through a grueling schedule, and what many have called one of the toughest conferences in college basketball history.

But after finishing second to Kansas in the regular season, the seventh-ranked Longhorns proved Saturday night they were champs in their own right, blowing out the third-ranked Jayhawks 76-56 in the Big 12 finals.

Dylan Disu overcame early foul trouble to score 18 points and was tournament MVP. Marcus Carr and Sir'Jabari Rice, who also landed on the all-tournament team, had 17 apiece. And just about everyone wearing burnt orange had a hand in shutting down the Jayhawks, who were trying to win a second straight tournament title.

“There probably hasn't been a team challenged as much in terms of adversity or staying the course,” Terry said, his voice long gone hoarse. “There was no nights off. This tournament, we knew, was going to be tough as well, but we were excited about it, and these guys’ approach and their attitudes — they wanted to be champions, and they made it happen.”

After going more than two decades without a Big 12 tourney title, the Longhorns (26-8) have won two of the past three, and likely wrapped up a No. 2 seed in next week's NCAA Tournament with their performance in Kansas City.

“You only take this win for one night,” said Brock Cunningham, who was on that 2021 title team that was then bounced in the first round of the NCAA tourney. “We'll have this win tonight and then we'll get back to work.”

The Jayhawks played once again without Hall of Fame coach Bill Self, who went to the emergency room on the eve of their quarterfinal for an undisclosed medical procedure. Self's longtime assistant and acting coach, Norm Roberts, said afterward that he hopes to have Self back when they begin defense of their NCAA title next week.

Jalen Wilson scored 24 points and Joseph Yesufu, pressed into the starting lineup due to injuries, finished with 11 for the Jayhawks (27-7), who had won 13 of their previous 16 trips to the Big 12 finals.

The question now is whether the defending national champs did enough before Saturday night to earn the overall No. 1 seed for the NCAA Tournament, and with it a favorable road through Kansas City in the regional round.

“Give Texas a lot of credit. They played really well,” Roberts said. “They're very athletic; we knew that. Fast. They have some really good offensive players. I thought we did a good job early in the game, but then we missed a bunch of bunnies, easy shots and putbacks that could have kept us in the game, and then I think fatigue took over.”

Both teams were missing starters Saturday night due to injuries — Kevin McCullar Jr. for the Jayhawks, Timmy Allen for the Longhorns — yet there was still plenty of star power on display inside T-Mobile Center.

Wilson, the league's player of the year, kept the Jayhawks afloat during a scattershot first half. He scored 17 points, more than half their total, while pounding the glass and even picking up a steal.

Texas, meanwhile, relied on depth and balance in forging a 39-33 halftime lead. It had to after losing Disu, a revelation in the previous two rounds, to a pair of fouls less than eight minutes into the game.

“Everybody on the court was doing their part,” Carr said later, “cutting, moving, knocking down shots.”

When Disu returned, the big man went right to work. He had a couple of baskets in the opening minutes, and a nearly five-minute drought by Kansas allowed the Longhorns to extend their lead to 53-41 with 12 minutes to go.

By that point, about 500 Texas fans sounded like 15,000. And about 15,000 Kansas fans were dead silent.

The knockout blow came moments later, when Disu's baskets bookended one by Rice, and Arterio Morris added an ally-oop dunk. That pushed the Longhorns' lead to 70-50 with 4 1/2 minutes to go, and while Roberts finally called a timeout to slow the onslaught, it came far too late to make a difference.

“I don't think we really thought about the game was over at any point,” Rice said. “We just kept playing, and whatever the outcome was going to be when the buzzer sounded, that's what we cared about.”

McCullar, the Jayhawks' defensive dynamo, has been dealing with back spasms that flared up again during a semifinal win over Iowa State; he watched from the bench in sweats. The Longhorns were without Allen all tournament while the veteran leader rested a lower leg injury ahead of the NCAA Tournament.

Texas shot 50% from the field but was especially good inside the arc — the Longhorns were just 4 of 17 on 3s. And rarely did they go more than a couple of minutes without a basket, preventing Kansas from getting its crowd into the game.

Kansas was forced to use some different lineups with McCullar out, playing freshman MJ Rice extra minutes. The Jayhawks rarely seemed in sync, and that was evident in Dajuan Harris Jr. turning the ball over an uncharacteristic four times.

The Longhorns and Jayhawks are headed to the NCAA Tournament. They'll learn Sunday night who, when and where they will play in the first round.

On the consolation side, Lindsey faced a familiar foe in Cole Hernandez from Western Colorado. VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Fort Hays State track and field program picked up five All-American honors Saturday on day two of the 2023 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships. Four student-athletes from the men's team earned their way onto the All-America podium, while one from the women's squad earned second team honors. 👟 Tigers have five All-Americans at indoor nationals

MANHATTAN – Medicine Lodge converted on a pair of free throws with a
little more than 21 seconds left in the game as they knock off the TMP-Marian
Monarchs 48-46 in the 2A third place game at the state tournament in Manhattan at Bramlage Colliseum.

Harrison Lowe gave the Monarchs (22-4) an early 3-0 lead, in his
third start of the season, on a game-opening three-pointer.

Two different times in the first quarter the Monarchs were able to take a four-point lead, the first time&nbsp;at 8-4 and then again at 10-6 but Medicine Lodge answered with a 15-4 run to end the first
quarter and open the second quarter for a 21-14 lead.

TMP found themselves down by as many as eight in the second quarter,
at 28-20, but closed within four at halftime at 28-24 and extended the 17-4 run
out of the break, into the third quarter for a 37-32 third quarter lead early in the second quarter.

During that stretch Dylan Werth scored nine of his game-high
20 points and Luke Rome added five points of his own for TMP. 

But the Indians (19-7) scored five straight to end the third quarter, tying the game at 37 heading into
the final frame.

The two teams traded the lead back and forth in the fourth
quarter and with just over a minute and a half left in the game, TMP held on to
a 46-45 lead after a pair of Werth free throws. 

Medicine Lodge closed out the game, scoring the five points
over the final minute and 15 seconds, including the two free throws that proved to
be the game winners in the 48-46 victory.

Werth led all scorers with 20 points and eight rebounds. Werth
scored in double-figures in all three tournament games and 25-of-26 games this
season. Rome added 11 points and six rebounds. Rome scored in double-figures in two of the three tournament games.

The fourth-place finish marksTMP's fifth top four finish over the last six years.

The Tigers moved to 12-8 overall, 1-1 in the MIAA, while the Bearcats moved to 13-7 overall, 1-1 in the MIAA. Game 1: Fort Hays State 2, Northwest Missouri State 1 <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/softball/roster/savanah-egger/7081">Savanah Egger</a>&nbsp;held on for a complete-game, 2-1 win in the first contest of the day. She held the Bearcats scoreless through six innings and then fought off the potential tying run late after allowing consecutive doubles to open the seventh. She ended the Bearcat rally with a fly out, strikeout, and a pop up to end the game, stranding the potential tying run at third. MANHATTAN – A last-second shot lifted the Moundridge
Wildcats to a 56-55 win over the TMP-Marian Monarchs in the 2A semifinals Friday
in Manhattan.

The Monarchs were able to hang tough in the first quarter despite
the Wildcats knocking down five three pointers. 

TMP had a brief 4-3 lead and led again at 9-7 after a Dylan
Werth three-point play. Then, with TMP up 11-8, Moundridge hit four straight 3s
to build a 20-14 lead before Joey Mindrup hit a three pointer for TMP, cutting
the lead to 20-17.

After the Monarchs closed within one on a Kade Harris
floater at 20-19, Moundridge answered with a 7-0 run to go up 27-19.

TMP answered with an 8-0 run, tying the game at 27. The
game was tied again at 29 before Moundridge took a 31-29 lead into the halftime
break.

Werth tied the game at 31 to open the second half.

While Moundridge maintained the lead throughout the third
quarter, Luke Rome scored 10 of his career-high 26 points in the second quarter
as TMP trailed 45-41 through three quarters.

In the fourth quarter, TMP was dealt a huge blow with just
over 5:30 to play, when senior guard Kade Harris injured his knee and did not
return.

With Harris out, Rome and the Monarchs answered in a big way. They came all the way back to take a one-point lead at 55-54, on a Rome
jumper with just nine second left.

But Moundridge scored on a game-winner by Henry Hecox that lifted
Moundridge to the 56-55 victory.

Rome led all scorers with 26 points and Werth added 18
points for TMP.

The Monarchs will face Medicine Lodge in the third-place
game at 12 p.m. The Indians lost to Wichita Independent in the first boys semifinal
game 57-42.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jalen Wilson had 25 points and 10 rebounds, Gradey Dick made a couple of crucial baskets during a second-half run that gave Kansas control, and the third-ranked Jayhawks went on to beat Iowa State 71-58 on Friday night to reach the Big 12 Tournament title game.

Dick finished with 15 points for the top-seeded Jayhawks (27-6), who fell behind early in the second half before the defending champs rallied to reach Saturday night's title game against seventh-ranked Texas or No. 22 TCU.

The Jayhawks were once again without Hall of Fame coach Bill Self, who is recovering after a hospital trip Wednesday night for what doctors with the University of Kansas Health System would only call “a standard procedure."

Longtime assistant Norm Roberts, serving as the acting coach, said Self addressed the Jayhawks remotely during breakfast and was “doing a lot better." It's still unclear whether he will be available to coach next week, when they begin defense of the NCAA title they won with a stirring comeback win over North Carolina last April.

Jaren Holmes had 16 points to lead the No. 5 seed Cyclones (19-13). Robert Jones finished with 11.

The first half between two teams very familiar with each other was sloppy and disjointed. They combined to commit 20 turnovers, some of them byproduct of tight defense but many entirely unforced.

Wilson got off to a hot start, hitting a trio of 3-pointers among his first four shots. The Cyclones weathered the barrage and were still within 29-25 late in the half, but Wilson's basket in the closing minute and another turnover that led to a runout dunk by KJ Adams sent the regular-season champs to the locker room with a 33-25 lead.

The Jayhawks' turnover trouble continued after the break, and Iowa State used a 10-2 run out of the locker room and another spurt moments later to take a 39-38 lead — its first of the game — with just under 15 minutes to go.

Yet the Jayhawks showed again the poise and precision that has made them so good come March.

Wilson answered Iowa State with a couple of free throws, starting the Jayhawks' own 10-2 run to regain control. Backup big man Ernest Udeh Jr. threw down a thunderous dunk off a nifty assist from Dajuan Harris Jr., who also had 11 points, and the lead unspooled again as Kansas fans began to drown out their Cyclone counterparts.

The Jayhawks were never threatened down the stretch as they clinched their spot in the title game.

Iowa State has adjusted to life without 3-point specialist Caleb Grill, who was dismissed from the team last week. Gabe Kalscheur and Holmes, who struggled from the field Friday night, have become an prolific backcourt duo that could cause some fits in the NCAA Tournament.

Kansas has played well while Roberts has been the acting coach. Along with two wins in the Big 12 Tournament, it went 4-0 with him on the bench when Self served a school-imposed four-game suspension to start the season. That included a win over Duke in the Champions Classic.

Kansas will play for the fourth time in the last five championship games Saturday night at T-Mobile Center.

Neither Tiger gave up an offensive point on the day, with three of the four Tiger wins serving as bonus-point victories. By reaching the semifinals, Henry and Lindsey are guaranteed to finish no worse than sixth-place individually. The duo has compiled 20 team points so far, ranking Fort&nbsp;Hays State 15th&nbsp;in the team standings. Fourth-seeded Lindsey started his day against Owen Butler of Indianapolis. Lindsey secured a takedown 45 seconds into the first period and accumulated over two minutes of riding time. He won the coin flip and chose the bottom position for the second period setting up an escape early in the period. Lindsey took Butler down again at the end of the period to take a 5-0 lead. In the final period, Butler was dinged for stalling twice resulting in a penalty point being rewarded to Lindsey. The Derby, Kan. native advanced to the quarterfinals after earning another point for riding time and defeating Butler by decision, 7-0. In the quarterfinal, Lindsey was set to face fifth-seeded Anthony DesVigne of Central Oklahoma. This would be their first meeting of the season due to Lindsey being injured at the time of the MIAA dual between the Tigers and the Bronchos earlier this season. Lindsey got to work quickly once again, securing a take down early in the opening period.&nbsp;Soon after he secure the win when he locked DesVigne in his signature cradle and pinned him to reach the semifinals. Lindsey will face top-seeded Abner Romero of St. Cloud State in the semifinals tomorrow for a chance to wrestle&nbsp;for a national championship. Henry picked up a pair of major decisions on the day, outscoring his opponents 29-4. In the opening round, Henry faced Jacob Kowalski of Findlay. The redshirt sophomore scored three takedowns in the first period taking a 6-2 lead. He went on to score three more takedowns over the following two periods to secure a 14-3 major decision. Henry secured another major decision in his quarterfinal match against Dakoda Rodger of Pitt-Johnstown. After another early takedown in the opening period, Henry turned Rodger twice in the second period accumulating eight points by nearfall. The El Paso, Texas native received a point for stalling to start the final frame before scoring an escape almost immediately. Both teams had things rolling offensively out of the gates, with each side plating two runs in the first, one run in the second and two more in the third.
