STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Freshman Darryn Peterson scored 20 of his 23 points in the first half, sparking No. 8 Kansas to an 81-69 win over Oklahoma State on Wednesday night.

Peterson, a guard who is expected to be among the first picks in the NBA draft later this year, had shot 13 for 36 from the field combined in his previous three games. He made 7 of 12 field goals against the Cowboys, including 6 of 10 3-pointers.

Tre White scored 16 points and Elmarko Jackson added 14 for Kansas. Bryson Tiller had 10 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists and Flory Bidunga added eight points, 11 rebounds and four blocks for the Jayhawks (20-6, 10-3 Big 12), who made 11 of 24 3-pointers and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-iowa-basketball-score-2244f41882aa408058620e8506a644a1">bounced back from a blowout loss at Iowa State</a>&nbsp;last Saturday.

Parsa Fallah scored 21 points and Anthony Roy added 16 for Oklahoma State (16-10, 4-9), which lost its fourth straight since a win over BYU. The Cowboys&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/tcu-oklahoma-state-score-big-12-d411d5067b05bd3fcf13948a24b82065">were coming off a tough overtime home loss to TCU</a>&nbsp;and could have used a quality win to strengthen their NCAA Tournament resume.

It was a blackout game for the Oklahoma State crowd, but about a third of the fans were wearing Kansas blue.

Oklahoma State fell behind 10-1 and went more than three minutes without a field goal to start the game. The Jayhawks ran out to a 39-16 lead before the Cowboys went on an 11-0 run. Kansas led 43-29 at the break.

The Jayhawks remained in control in the second half, despite Peterson scoring just three points. Kansas shot 48% from the field after the break to stay safely ahead.

Fort Hays State seeks a third-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers secured an automatic bid to the tournament last year by winning the MIAA Tournament.

🏀 Tiger men under consideration in first NCAA region rankings

INDIANAPOLIS - The sixth-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team is one of 10 teams currently under consideration for selection into the 2026 NCAA Division II Central Region Championships, announced Wednesday (Feb. 18) by the NCAA office.

In recent years the NCAA has released its first set of region rankings in alphabetical order before announcing the teams in rank order in two subsequent releases. Final selections for the field of eight teams will be announced on Sunday, March 8, with five at-large teams joining the champions from the MIAA, GAC and NSIC. The regional tournament will run March 13-16 at the top overall seed with the regional champion moving on to Pittsburgh, Pa. March 24-28 for the DII Elite Eight.

Leading the MIAA at 23-2 overall and 14-2 in league play, the Tigers are one of three league schools listed in the initial set of regional rankings. FHSU is joined on the list by Central Missouri and Washburn. The GAC also has three teams in the mix, while the NSIC leads the way with four teams mentioned.

Fort Hays State has played in nine of the last 11 regional championship tournaments, serving as the top overall seed four times and playing in three regional finals.

Two of the statistical metrics that the regional selection committee takes into consideration are KPI and in-region RPI. Fort Hays State ranks third in the region in each category with a KPI of .262 and an in-region RPI of .611.

The Tigers have three regular season games left on the schedule beginning Thursday (Feb. 19) with a trip to Missouri Southern.

INDIANAPOLIS – Fort Hays State's Isabella Renfro remained No. 2 in the latest NCAA Most Dominant Wrestler standings, released on Wednesday (Feb. 18). The top eight wrestlers in the standings remained in the same positions, even though the values of a few changed slightly.

Both Renfro and national leader Savannah Witt of Eastern University (NCAA Division III) were idle since the first release of the standings a week ago. Both head into their respective NCAA regionals this weekend, Renfro competing in NCAA Region 6 and Eastern University competing in Region 2. Renfro is ranked No. 2 nationally at 180, while Witt is ranked No. 9 nationally at 124.

At 27-1 overall for the season, Renfro has been impressive with 26 of her 27 wins being bonus-point victories (falls or tech falls). Renfro has 20 falls and six tech falls overall for the season. She has wrestled nine matches against non-NCAA opponents (NAIA, NJCAA, or club).

Renfro is averaging 4.68 points per match against NCAA competition this season (19 matches). She has no losses figured into the formula, since her one blemish was against an unattached wrestler.

Most Dominant Woman Wrestler standings are calculated by adding the total number of team points awarded through match results and dividing that number by the total number of matches wrestled. Only results against other NCAA wrestlers are considered for the standings. Wrestlers must have a 15-match minimum to qualify for the standings.

Points per match are awarded as follows:

- Fall, forfeit, injury default or DQ = 5 points (-5 points for a loss) - Tech falls = 4 points (-4 points for a loss) - Decision = 3 points (-3 points for a loss)

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — P.J. Haggerty scored 34 points, Nate Johnson added a career-high 33, and Kansas State cruised past Baylor 90-74 on Tuesday night in the debut of Wildcats' interim head coach Matthew Driscoll.

K-State (11-15, 2-11 Big 12) never trailed and held a double-digit lead for most of the second half to end a six-game skid. Driscoll replaced previous head coach Jerome Tang, who was fired Sunday night after four season at the helm.

Johnson’s layup gave the Wildcats a 21-point lead with 10:39 remaining. He surpassed his previous career-best 31 points with a dunk with 1:37 remaining.

Haggerty shot 15 of 23 overall. Johnson was 11-of-16 shooting and made five of the Wildcats' eight 3-pointers. Johnson also had nine assists and matched a career-high with six steals.

Isaac Williams IV scored 16 points to lead Baylor (13-13, 3-10), which has lost four straight. Tounde Yessoufou added 14 point for the Bears. Cameron Carr chipped in with 12 points and Dan Skillings Jr. scored 11. The Bears made just three of their 24 3-point attempts.

Johnson made four 3s and scored 16 points, and Haggerty added 13 points to help K-State build a 41-34 halftime advantage. The Wildcats shot 5 of 11 from long range while Baylor missed 11 of 12 attempts from beyond the arc.

Williams' layup pulled the Bears to 66-57 with 8:20 left but they didn't get closer.

K-State is on the road Saturday to face No. 13 Texas Tech.

Wrestling Coaches Association Class 5A rankings released Tuesday. The Indians,
who finished runner-up at the Newton regional, have five individuals ranked
this week.&nbsp;Freshman Audrey Yarmer is second at 100, junior Eleanor Stoffel
is second at 190, senior Lexi Barnett is fourth at 155, junior Timber Lovewell dropped
to fifth at 145 and senior Reese Vehige is sixth at 130.

The Hays boys have four ranked wrestlers heading into this
weekend’s regional tournament. Senior Johnny Rigler remained third at 190, sophomore
Archer Amrein is fourth at 175, senior Jaxson Chartier is fourth at 215 and
junior Tanner Geist fifth at 285.

No change in the top five spots of the 3-2-1A girls rankings. Russell, who was the regional champ in WaKeeney, remained first, Norton second, Oakley third, Plainville fourth and Smith Center
fifth while Phillipsburg moved up four spots to sixth.

The Hoxie boys continue to hold down the top spot in the

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State Men's Basketball moved back into the receiving votes list in the latest NABC Top 25 Poll, released on Tuesday (Feb. 18). This is the seventh poll the Tigers have been among the receiving votes list this season. FHSU is 17-8 overall for the season.

The Tigers are one of four teams from the MIAA referenced in the poll. Washburn remained No. 3 for a second-straight week after a long stint at No. 1 before taking its first loss of the season. Central Missouri moved into the Top 25 this week at No. 25. Missouri Western joins FHSU in the receiving votes list. Arkansas-Fort Smith dropped out of the Top 25 and did not receive votes this week.

Fort Hays State goes on the road to Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State this week, looking to improve in the MIAA standings. The Tigers are currently in sixth, but just a half game behind fourth and 1.5 games back of third. Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State are both right behind FHSU, each a half-game back of sixth.

🏀 FHSU men receiving votes once again in D2 national rankings

LILBURN, Ga. - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team crept up another spot in the WBCA national poll this week, now sitting at No. 6 in the nation.

This is the fourth time this season the Tigers have been ranked sixth in the country. FHSU is 6-0 when ranked No. 6 on the year.

The Tigers accumulated 457 points in the balloting process, up from 423 last week. FHSU is just 18 points out of the top five. Minnesota State Mankato, the lone unbeaten team in Division II, remains a unanimous No. 1. The Central Region boasts three teams in the top 10, with Harding climbing one spot to No. 10 this week. Pittsburg State fell to No. 25 this week, while Central Missouri is still receiving votes.

The Tigers are one of only four teams to rank inside the top 10 of all 14 polls released by the WBCA during the 2025-26 season. Fort Hays State has occupied seven of those top 10 spots at some point this season, ranking as high as No. 3 in weeks one and three and as low as No. 9 in the preseason.

This is the 13th time Fort Hays State has been ranked sixth in the coaches poll during the program's Division II era. FHSU is 19-3 when ranked sixth, 207-50 overall when ranked and 153-30 when ranked inside the top 10.

The Tigers have now been ranked 134 times in the program's DII era, including 93 appearances inside the top 10. FHSU is 208-50 all-time when ranked and 154-30 when ranked inside the top 10.

Now 23-2 overall, tied for the ninth-most wins in team history, and 14-2 in league play, the Tigers will hit the road for the final time during the regular season beginning Thursday (Feb. 19, 5:30 p.m.) when they take on Missouri Southern in Joplin, Mo.

 </figure>FHSU AthleticsLILBURN, Ga. - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team crept up another spot in the WBCA national poll this week, now sitting at No. 6 in the nation.This is the fourth time this season the Tigers have been ranked sixth in the country. FHSU is 6-0 when ranked No. 6 on the year.The Tigers accumulated 457 points in the balloting process, up from 423 last week. FHSU is just 18 points out of the top five. Minnesota State Mankato, the lone unbeaten team in Division II, remains a unanimous No. 1. The Central Region boasts three teams in the top 10, with Harding climbing one spot to No. 10 this week. Pittsburg State fell to No. 25 this week, while Central Missouri is still receiving votes.The Tigers are one of only four teams to rank inside the top 10 of all 14 polls released by the WBCA during the 2025-26 season. Fort Hays State has occupied seven of those top 10 spots at some point this season, ranking as high as No. 3 in weeks one and three and as low as No. 9 in the preseason.This is the 13th time Fort Hays State has been ranked sixth in the coaches poll during the program's Division II era. FHSU is 19-3 when ranked sixth, 207-50 overall when ranked and 153-30 when ranked inside the top 10.The Tigers have now been ranked 134 times in the program's DII era, including 93 appearances inside the top 10. 🏀 Tiger women now sixth in WBCA poll

The Hays High boys and girls along with the TMP-Marian and Victoria boys remain in the final regular season rankings from the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association.

The Hays girls (18-1) moved up a spot to fourth in Class 5A while the boys (15-4) dropped two slots to ninth.&nbsp;

The TMP-Marian boys (15-5) remain eighth in Class 2A.

The Victoria boys (13-8) boys move up two spots to sixth while
Wheatland-Grinnell (14-7) dropped a spot to seventh in 1A Division II.

Two Mid-Continent League girls teams remain ranked. Hoxie dropped
a spot to fourth and Oakley remained eighth in Class 2A.

The Quinter girls (17-4) dropped two spots to eighth in 1A
Division, Dighton (17-3) moved up one to fifth and Wheatland-Grinnell (16-5) dropped
one to ninth in 1A Division II.

HAYS, Kan. - Due to the weather forecast later in the weekend, the Fort Hays State baseball team will open conference play one day prior than originally scheduled. The Tigers will now travel to Maryville, Mo. to take on Northwest Missouri State beginning Thursday (Feb. 19).

The series will open with a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 11 a.m. before wrapping up with a single game Friday (Feb. 20) starting at 1 p.m.

The Tigers enter the weekend 3-7 in non-conference play, while the Bearcats are 8-4 on the year.

The three Cs of success are sometimes referred to as clarity, commitment and consistency.

The Hays High School swim program got a huge dose of all three when it hired Tyler Stein as its coach in 2024. And the Indians continue to reap the benefits.

Now in his second year in charge of the Indian boys’ and girls’ teams, Stein coached the HHS boys to the Western Athletic Conference title last week at Great Bend.

Records show that it is the first WAC boys’ swim title in Hays High program history. 

Fielding a team of 15 swimmers at WAC (the Indians’ largest roster in several years) Hays High medaled in nine of the 11 events

The Indians racking up 523 points to outdistance second-place Garden City by more than 100 points and claim their fifth team title of the season.

Senior Karsen Flaska had a golden day at the conference meet, bookending two championship relay performances around two individual gold-medal efforts, earning him WAC swimmer-of-the-year honors.

Stein was named the conference coach of the year for a third straight season after being bestowed with that recognition for both HHS boys’ and girls’ programs a year ago.

Senior Chase Zadina and junior Durr joined Flaska on the two winning relay teams at WAC.

Zadina also won the 50y freestyle and in the process, qualified for state in that event. He also finished second in another individual event, while Durr also was the silver medalist in two individual events.

Senior Maison Desaire finished his final WAC meet in style, grabbing third-place medals in two individual events and helping the 200y freestyle relay collect the silver medals.

The Indians also got some impressive performances from first-time swimmers for the high school team.

Freshman Jace Herbers medaled in three events and also placed in the top five of a fourth event. And senior Seth Burkholder – out for the HHS team for the first time this year – earned medals in two relays in addition to earning top-five status in an individual event.

Herbers joined Flaska, Zadina and Durr in clocking a time of 1 minute, 49.72 seconds on their winning 200y medley relay, just .42 seconds off the school record.

They will try to get that record at this weekend’s Class 5-1A State Championships at Lenexa.
