HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State completed a 3-game sweep of Arkansas-Fort Smith on Sunday at Larks Park in Hays. The Tigers never trailed in a 10-5 win, leading by as many as eight runs in the game. FHSU improved to 7-13 overall and 4-6 in the MIAA, while UAFS went to 1-17 overall and 0-9 in the MIAA.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a Derek Woolwine RBI single, but the Lions pulled back even at 1-1 on a Layne Sweat solo homer in the third. From that point, the Tigers scored six unanswered runs with two runs in each of the middle three innings (4th, 5th, and 6th).

Dylan Salcido singled home a pair of runs on a chopper up the middle in the fourth. The Tigers scored two in the fifth on pitcher miscues, a run on a wild pitch and a run on a balk. In the sixth, Antonio Avila hit a 2-run homer to make it 7-1.

The Lions picked up a run in the top of the eighth, but the Tigers added three more in the bottom half to lead 10-2. Mac Bowie hit a 2-run homer, his first of the season, and Avila drove in a run on a ground out.

Tiger starter Brett Jacobs had a very strong performance, going 8.1 innings with just three earned runs allowed. He tried to battle his way to a complete game, but had to hand the ball to Caleb Camp for the last two outs in the ninth. The Lions scored three times in the ninth, although only one of the runs was earned. Jacobs struck out five to earn his first win of the season, throwing 122 pitches.

Avila, Woolwine, Salcido, and Justin Lipka all had a two-hit game. All but one Tiger in the lineup scored a run.

The Tigers head on the road for their next 11 games, starting with a 3-game series next weekend (Mar. 13-15) at Missouri Western.

⚾Tigers complete sweep of Lions

The Kansas State High School Activities Association has released the brackets for the state basketball tournaments.

The quarterfinal rounds will be played at United Wireless Arena in Dodge City, Tony’s Pizza Events Center and Mabee Center at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Koch Arena and the Garvey Center at Friends University in Wichita, White Auditorium in Emporia and the Kansas City Kansas Community College Fieldhouse. 

The 28 quarterfinal games on Tuesday, March 10 and the 28 quarterfinal games on Wednesday, March 11 will be assigned by the KSHSAA office based on proximity to the higher seed. If the distance between the lower seed and the appropriate site is greater than 250 miles the game will be played at a centrally located site. There will be no more than five games played in a day at any quarterfinal site.

The Hays High girls (23-1) are the two-seed in Class 5A and will play Kapaun Mt. Carmel (19-6) on Wednesday, March 11 at 8:00 p.m. at the Tony's Pizza Events Center in Salina. The winner advances to the semifinals and will play either Shawnee Heights (21-4) or Basehor-Linwood (20-5) on Friday, March 13 at 3:30. p.m. at Koch Arena in Wichita.&nbsp;

The TMP-Marian boys (20-5) are the four-seed in Class 2A and will open with&nbsp;St. Marys (19-7) on Wednesday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tony's Pizza Events Center in Salina. The winner advances to the semifinals and will play either&nbsp;Sterling HS (25-0) or&nbsp;Douglass HS (13-11) on Friday, March 13 at 5:30 p.m. at White Auditorium in Emporia.

The Victoria boys (17-9) are the six-seed in 1A Division II and will face&nbsp;Lebo (19-7) on Tuesday, March 10 at 4:00 p.m. at White Auditorium in Emporia. If they win, they will face either&nbsp;Hanover (25-1) or&nbsp;Deerfield (16-9) on Thursday, March 12 at 8:00 p.m. at White Auditorium in Emporia.

CORALVILLE, Iowa – Fort Hays State sophomore Isabella Renfro notched her place in history as the first-ever NCAA All-America performer in Fort Hays State Women's Wrestling history. She finished fourth at 180 pounds in the inaugural NCAA NC Women's Wrestling Championships. Renfro's name will also be etched among the first 80 All-Americans in NCAA Women's Wrestling history.

After a 2-0 performance on day one of the championships to reach the semifinals, Renfro met McKendree's Destiny Rodriguez for the third time this season. It was the rubber match between the two for the season as both had a win, but unfortunately Rodriguez won the final battle. Renfro led 1-0 and 3-2 in the match. Briefly after Renfro took the lead for a second time, Rodriguez was able to get leverage and scored a pin with seven seconds remaining in the first period.

Renfro bounced back well in the consolation semifinals, making quick work of Azariah Moore of Lock Haven with a fall in 50 seconds. She then matched up against Shenita Lawson of North Central in the consolation final. Renfro led 2-1 through one period, but Lawson was able to score three times in the second period to take the match by a 7-2 decision.

Renfro finished her impressive season at 32-5 overall, setting a new program record for wins in a season, topping Nichole Moore's 31 wins from the previous season. Renfro was also ranked No. 1 for a while during the season when she was undefeated. She started her season with 26-straight wins before taking her first loss.

Moore (145), Leiannah Landreth (117), and Alexis Burton (160) also competed for FHSU at the championships but were eliminated on day one of the tournament. Moore and Burton each notched one win. The trio joins Renfro as the first NCAA national qualifiers in program history for FHSU. Renfro and Moore were NCWWC national qualifiers the year before, but women's wrestling became an NCAA championship sport starting this season.

Fort Hays State generated 19.5 team points to finish 19th in the team standings. The team placing was one notch better than their 20th-place finish in the NCWWC Championships last season.

SMITH CENTER – The TMP-Marian Monarchs fought through one of
their worst shooting performances of the season. They used a lockdown defense
in the second half on their way to a 52-49 victory over Stanton County on
Saturday in the first sub-state championship game in Smith Center.

It’s Monarchs' first trip to the state tournament since 2023.

It took both teams time for their offenses to settle in. The
Trojans were the first team to score, only to see TMP’s Jacob Seib score
back-to-back field goals and give TMP the 4-2 lead with less than four and a
half minutes to play in the first quarter.

Stanton County retook the lead at 6-4, but then the teams traded
the lead back and forth three times before Stanton County built a 14-12 lead at
the end of the first quarter.

With the game tied again, this time at 14, the Trojans put
together an 11-3 run for a 25-17 lead with two minutes remaining in the first
half.

After trailing by as many as eight, twice in the final
second of the first half, TMP closed within five, trailing 28-23 at halftime.

The Monarchs shot just 1-of-15 from three-point range in the
first half.

Stanton County extended its lead to seven, 30-23, to open
the third quarter.

The Monarchs answered with a 12-4 run, taking a 35-34 lead
on a Ty Schmeidler three-pointer.

But the lead was short-lived, as Stanton County took the lead
back on the next possession. 

They then went on to build a 40-35 lead through three
quarters.

The Trojans converted a three-pointer in the opening
possession of the fourth quarter to lead by eight again, 43-35.

The Monarchs’ offense was finally able to break through with
five minutes and six seconds remaining when Will Eck connected on his first of
two fourth-quarter three-pointers.

That shot, and the TMP defense, spurred a 17-6 run to close
the game with a 52-49 victory.

Schmeidler scored eight of his team-high 21 points in the
fourth quarter while the Monarchs forced Stanton County into eight fourth-quarter
turnovers.

Jacob Seib also scored in double-figures with 18 points.

After starting 1-for-15 for three, TMP finished the game 5-for-25.

The win moves TMP to 20-5 on the season and makes them the
No. 4 seed in the 2A state tournament. They will open on Wednesday against the
five-seed St. Mary's. The time and location will be announced on Sunday. &nbsp;

🏀 Monarchs shake off rough start to punch ticket back to state tournament

HAYS - Hays High heads back to the state tournament in back-to-back season for the first time 1995-96 with a 55-37 victory over Andover Central.

Andover Central (14-11) jumped out to a 5-2 lead in a little under the first three minutes of the game. Hays bounced back with a big first quarter run. The full run totaled 16-4 for an 18-9 advantage with 1:05 left in the quarter. The Zoe Winter and Morgan Armbruster combined for five points to give the Indians a 7-5 advantage. With the score tied at seven Hays (23-1) launched into a 8-0 spurt.&nbsp;

Molly Buckles got the run going with a two-point bucket. Haley LaBarge and Jenna Schmeidler followed with a pair of traditional three point plays for a 15-7 edge with two minutes left in the quarter.

Central got a bucket which was followed by a Schmeidler second traditional three point play at 18-9. The Jaguars were game though hitting consecutive threes to close the first quarter at an 18-15 score.

They followed that with the first two field goals for the second quarter to complete a 10-0 run that boosted the Jaguars to a 19-18, ninety seconds into the second quarter. Winter put Hays back on top 20-19 a minute later. Tied at 20, Armbruster knocked in two free throws for a led the Indians would never give back.

Leading by two, Hays got the second of three, three pointers from Armbruster for a 29-24 advantage. Winter scored the final three points of the half for Hays and the Indians led 32-26 at half.

Hays never trailed in the second half. The Jaguars got within four points on two occasions. The second at 36-32 with 3:15 left in the third quarter was the closest Central would be rest of the night.

Schmeidler wrapped a pair of two point field goals around an Armbruster three for a 43-32 lead after the third quarter.

The Hays defense tightened as well after the 36-32 scored. The Indians didn't allow Central to score for the next 9:30 seconds. During that time Hays went on a 17-0 run for a 53-32 advantage with 2:30 left in the game.

Winter scored six of the Indians first eight points of the fourth quarter as Hays pulled away for a 55-37 victory.

Schmeidler led all scoring with 16. Winter grabbed her sixth double-double of the season with 15 points and a career high 14 rebounds. Armbruster scored 11 off the bench and Molly Buckles added 10.

Hays will play on Wednesday in the first round of the 5A State Tournament. The location and time is yet to be released by KSHSAA.

The Indians set a school record for wins in a season at 23.

Hays bounced back with a big first quarter run. The full run totaled 16-4 for an 18-9 advantage with 1:05 left in the quarter. The Zoe Winter and Morgan Armbruster combined for five points to give the Indians a 7-5 advantage. With the score tied at seven Hays (23-1) launched into a 8-0 spurt.&nbsp;Molly Buckles got the run going with a two-point bucket. Haley LaBarge and Jenna Schmeidler followed with a pair of traditional three point plays for a 15-7 edge with two minutes left in the quarter.Central got a bucket which was followed by a Schmeidler second traditional three point play at 18-9. The Jaguars were game though hitting consecutive threes to close the first quarter at an 18-15 score.They followed that with the first two field goals for the second quarter to complete a 10-0 run that boosted the Jaguars to a 19-18, ninety seconds into the second quarter. Winter put Hays back on top 20-19 a minute later. Tied at 20, Armbruster knocked in two free throws for a led the Indians would never give back.Leading by two, Hays got the second of three, three pointers from Armbruster for a 29-24 advantage. 🏀 Hays girls headed back to the state tournament

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State baseball team picked up a second-straight win over Arkansas-Fort Smith on Saturday, winning 5-1. Starting pitcher Tucker Russell (1-1) and reliever Caleb Camp (1 save) combined to allow just four hits, tied for the fewest allowed by the Tigers (6-13, 3-6 MIAA) this season.

Russell didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning, however the Lions (1-16, 0-8 MIAA) scored the first run following two Tiger errors in the top of the first. Fort Hays State had runners on base in each of the first two innings but were unable to score until the third when Tyson Jimenez led off with his first career home run.

FHSU took the lead for good in the home half of the fourth after two batters were hit by a pitch. Derek Woolwine came through with the go-ahead RBI, plating Antonio Avila with a single to right.

Russell worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth, allowing two singles after a walk before escaping the inning without any damage thanks to a flyout to left. The Tigers had more chances to score in the sixth and seventh innings, but left men in scoring position each time.

Camp came on in relief with one on and one out in the sixth, but the baserunner was promptly retired when Justin Lipka threw out his second would-be base stealer of the game. Camp finished the inning with a strikeout against the first batter he faced, one of four punchouts for the sophomore.

Tytin Goebel led off the eighth with a line-drive single back up the middle to put more traffic on base. The Lions later intentionally walked Woolwine with two outs and appeared to get out of the inning before a Lipka was misplayed by the UAFS third baseman. Jimenez made the Lions pay for the error, driving a 3-2 pitch off the wall in left field to plate three runs with his team-leading second triple of the season.

Camp allowed a one-out single in the ninth before bringing things to a close with a pair of fly balls to right.

Jimenez drove in four of FHSU's five runs and was the lone Tiger with multiple hits. Russell struck out five and allowed one unearned run on three hits over 5.1 innings of work, while Camp struck out four and allowed just one hit in 3.1 innings of relief.

The Tigers will look to complete the sweep on Sunday (March 8) beginning at 1 p.m. at Larks Park.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Freshman star Darryn Peterson scored 27 points in his likely Allen Fieldhouse finale, Tre White and Melvin Council Jr. had memorable senior send-offs of their own, and No. 14 Kansas routed Kansas State 104-85 on Saturday.

Peterson, the potential No. 1 pick in this year's NBA draft, was an efficient 10 of 15 from the field for the Jayhawks (22-9, 12-6 Big 12), who clinched a double-bye in next week's conference tournament by winning on Senior Day for the 43rd consecutive year.

White, a transfer from Illinois, had 23 points and 11 rebounds to cap his lone regular season in Lawrence, while Council — who arrived from St. Bonaventure — nearly had a triple-double with 17 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists in his final game at the Phog.

The win was a much-needed confidence boost heading into the postseason for the Jayhawks, who had dropped four of their previous six games, and it extended their home win streak over their in-state rivals to 20 in a row.

P.J. Haggerty, who missed last week's win over West Virginia with an undisclosed injury, scored 21 points to lead the Wildcats (12-19, 3-15). Nate Johnson also had 21 points, while Khamari McGriff finished with 15.

The game was close only until midway through the first half, when Kansas ran off nine straight points to take control. It pushed the advantage to 46-33 by halftime, and the lead swelled to nearly 20 in the opening minutes of the second half.

Kansas State got within 11 on a couple of occasions, but Peterson and his senior teammates eventually poured it on.

The clinching blow came with about 12 minutes to go, when C.J. Jones fouled Peterson and then was whistled for a technical foul. The ensuing free throws were part of big run by Kansas that pushed the lead to 78-54 with under 10 minutes left in the game.

Kansas State will be the No. 15 seed for the Big 12 Tournament and play a first-round game on Tuesday. The Jayhawks will learn their seeding later Saturday and will open play in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

The TMP Lady Monarchs could never fully overcome a slow Friday
night as their season ended with a loss to the top-seeded Ellinwood Eagles 46-44.

Both teams struggled to score offensively in the first quarter, combining to score just five points.

TMP missed their first eight field goals and didn’t break onto
the scoreboard until the second quarter.

The Eagles managed just five first-quarter points and led
5-0 after the first quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, TMP’s Reagan Allen got the
Monarchs on the board, making it 13-2.

Paige Koenigsman added a three-pointer, making it 16-5, but the
Eagles finished the first half up 22-7 at halftime.

The Eagles built their largest lead of the game at 27-10
early in the third quarter before TMP began to chip away at the lead.

TMP strung together a 15-3 run that covered the end of the third
quarter and the beginning of the fourth, making it 30-25.

During the run, Claire Schippers scored nine of her team-high  15
points.

In the final quarter, after Ellinwood built back up by as
many as nine with seven minutes to play in the game.

But TMP was able to close the gap, thanks to Hannah Rose, who
connected on a pair of three-pointers in the quarter. Bria Windholz pulled the
Monarchs within one, on an offensive rebound and putback, making it 39-38. 

But the Ealges were able to make enough free throws down the stretch, closing the game on a run
for the 46-44 victory.

Schippers, the Monarchs' lone senior, scored a team-high 15
points. Hannah Rose added eight points.

The Monarchs finished the season with a 16-8 record and were
8-2 in the MCL.

🏀Monarchs comeback falls short; ends season as sub-state runners-up

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State had its hopes of a repeat MIAA Tournament title dashed on Friday night as Rogers State used a big second-half rally to knock off the Tigers. The Hillcats took the contest 70-63, scoring 47 points after halftime with hot shooting. FHSU went to 19-10 overall with the loss, while RSU improved to 20-9.

The game was a tale of two halves. The Tigers got out of the gate well in the first half and shot the ball at a 54.8 percent clip, while holding the Hillcats to just 34.8 percent. That staked the Tigers to a 39-23 advantage at halftime. In the second half, it was the reverse as the Hillcats shot 59 percent to the Tigers' 28.6 percent. Another huge disparity in the game was the free-throw line, where Rogers State shot 32 attempts to just 12 for FHSU. The Hillcats outscored the Tigers by 16 points at the free-throw line, 23-7.

The Tigers scored the first six points of the game and never trailed in the first half. They used a 9-2 run to lead by 12, 20-8, then a 10-2 run to lead by 18, 30-12. Rogers State slowly chipped away at the least and had the Tiger advantage down to seven by the 10:22 mark. An Eli Lawson stick back put the lead back up to nine, but the Hillcats kept charging and ran past the Tigers with a 14-0 run to lead by five with 5:39 to play. The Tigers got back within two in the final five minutes, but the Hillcats were too good at the free-throw line in the clutch moments. RSU went on to win the game by seven.

Kyle Grill led the Tigers with 17 points, while Dan Mukuna added 14 and Jahvari Martino had 13. Grill led the Tigers in rebounding with eight and tied Martino for the high in assists, both with three.

Tim Jordan, Jr. led the Hillcats with 16 points, while Caden Fry had 15, Jabryn Anderson had 13, and Andrew Mason had 12.

The Tigers reached 19 wins in season for the 17th time under head coach Mark Johnson. The NCAA Selection Show will be Sunday night, but the Tigers were not referenced in the top 10 of the latest NCAA Region Rankings released back on Wednesday.

CORALVILLE, Iowa – Isabella Renfro of Fort Hays State guaranteed herself placement at the first-ever NCAA NC Women's Wrestling Championship on Friday by winning her first two matches of the tournament to reach the semifinals on Saturday. Nichole Moore, Alexis Burton, and Leiannah Landreth also competed for the Tigers, but were eliminated on day one of the competition. Overall, the Tigers had four wins on the day.

Renfro, the No. 3 seed in the 180 bracket, had a dominating day by not giving up a point. She posted an 11-0 tech fall in 2:12 against Isabella Gretzinger of Presbyterian in the round of 16, then secured placement in the tournament with a fall in 0:58 over Mia Gaetjens of Adrian College.

Renfro will be the first All-America performer in program history, and one of the first 80 NCAA All-Americans in women's wrestling history, but has her sights on a potential trip to the national championship match. She will meet Destiny Rodriguez of McKendree for the third time this season in the semifinals, looking to avenge her loss in the final to Rodriguez at the Region 6 Championship. Renfro defeated Rodriguez earlier in the season, so this will be the rubber match to determine who wrestles for a national championship.

Landreth (117), Moore (145), and Burton (160) all dropped their opening matches of the tournament. Landreth had a lead going into the second period, but her opponent Maddie Ripley of Western New England rallied to get the match tied and then scored a fall 47 seconds into the second period. Moore gave Reese Larramendy, the No. 1 ranked wrestler at 145 from Iowa, a good fight nearly lasting the entire match. Larramendy scored an 11-1 tech fall. Burton made a bit of a push in the second period against No. 3 seed Tiffany Baublitz of East Stroudsburg, scoring three points, but she couldn't quite find leverage to flip the match in her favor.

Nichole Moore and Alexis Burton each won a consolation match before coming up short in their second consolation contest. Moore defeated Cloe Charlesworth of Ursinus by tech fall 11-0 and Burton took a 3-3 decision against Presley McCandlish of Lock Haven on criteria. Unfortunately, Moore dropped a 5-1 decision to Liv Wieber of Simon Fraser and Burton lost by fall to May Cuyler of Presbyterian. Moore finished her season at 18-7, while Burton finished the year at 22-10. Landreth lost her consolation match to Jenna Anderson of Presbyterian by an 8-4 decision. She ended her season at 21-11 overall.

The semifinals and remaining consolation matches will take place starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Mar. 7). Championship matches will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday night.

TOPEKA – A long second half scoring drought cost Hays High
in a 52-46 loss in Topeka against Seaman High School on Friday evening.

Hays (19-5) led early 5-1 on a pair of Trey Oakley field
goals. The Vikings (21-4) scored seven quick points to take the lead back at 8-5.
Oakley scored the Indians’ first ten points of the game including their next
two field goals which tied the game at 8 and 10. Izaac Fox was the first player
not named Oakley to scored for Hays. His first three points of the game gave
the Indians a 13-10 lead they would take into the second quarter.

Fox scored the first four more points of the second quarter
to give Hays another lead at 17-14. Back-to-back threes and a free throw from Seaman
gave the Vikings the lead again at 21-17 with 1:51 left in the half.

Dawson Ruder scored his first points of the game on a pair
of free throws and was followed up by two from Foxx to tie the game at 21. The Vikings
grabbed two free makes of their own for a 23-21 halftime lead.

The teams traded the lead through the first six-plus minutes
of the third quarter. After falling behind by eight points, Oakley and Ruder combined
for eight straight points to tie the game at 32 with 1:25 left in the third.

That is when the lid was placed on the basket for Hays.
Trailing 38-32, Hays went 0-5 from the field and turned the ball over twice. Seaman
was unable to score as well until their was 3:45 left in the game when they hit
a three pointer for a 41-32 lead.

The Indians next three possession went dry as well. All told
it was a 7:40 field goal drought until Ruder hit a three with 1:45 left in the
game. During that long span, Hays made just one free throw. 

Seaman kept Hays at arm’s length for the balance of the game
and a 52-46 victory.

Oakley scored a career high 19 in his final game. He took
two charges and leaves with the second most charges in a career at 31. Ruder
scored 11 points and passed Brady Werth for most points in a career at 1,147.

Fort Hays State Men's Basketball preps to face Rogers State in the MIAA Tournament Quarterfinals on Friday night in Kansas City. Tipoff is set for 8:15 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium. Both teams enter at 19-9 overall for the season.

Fort Hays State won the only meeting of the regular season with Rogers State. The Tigers topped the Hillcats in overtime 80-75 in Hays back on January 22 in Hays. FHSU has won three-straight games against RSU going back to the 2024-25 season. The Tigers hold a 7-5 advantage in the all-time series between the teams.

Fort Hays State has met Rogers State in the MIAA twice and won both times. The most recent was last year in the semifinals, when FHSU won 61-43. The 43 points was just one off the MIAA Tournament record low of 42. Fort Hays State has made it to at least the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament four years in a row and is looking to extend the streak to five this year.

Tipoff is set for 8:15 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium. Both teams enter at 19-9 overall for the season.Fort Hays State won the only meeting of the regular season with Rogers State. The Tigers topped the Hillcats in overtime 80-75 in Hays back on January 22 in Hays. FHSU has won three-straight games against RSU going back to the 2024-25 season. The Tigers hold a 7-5 advantage in the all-time series between the teams.Fort Hays State has met Rogers State in the MIAA twice and won both times. The most recent was last year in the semifinals, when FHSU won 61-43. The 43 points was just one off the MIAA Tournament record low of 42. Fort Hays State has made it to at least the semifinals of the MIAA Tournament four years in a row and is looking to extend the streak to five this year.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The 11th-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team fell to Missouri Western in the MIAA Championship quarterfinals Thursday afternoon, losing 77-68 in overtime.

The Tigers (24-5), seeded second in the tournament, have now lost three of their last four, while the seventh-seeded Griffons (15-15) own the second-longest winning streak in the conference at seven in a row.

Fort Hays State hit 33.3 percent from the floor (25-of-75), its lowest shooting percentage in a game in two years.

A pair of early 3-pointers from Talexa Weeter and Olivia Mortensen gave the Tigers a quick lead, but the Griffons quickly responded with a 13-2 run to go up by seven. Fort Hays State punched back with a 9-0 run to take the lead, going into the second quarter ahead 21-20.

Brooke Loewe opened the second frame with a triple of her own, stretching the FHSU run to 16-2. A pair of baskets from Kaitlin Schumann put the Tigers up by eight at the break, 35-27.

The Griffons came out of the locker room on a mission, scoring the first seven points before taking the lead on a 3-pointer four minutes into the frame. Missouri Western outscored the Tigers 25-14 in the third quarter, taking a 52-49 lead into the final stanza.

Missouri Western led by as many as nine with 6:53 to go before the Tigers mounted their comeback, outscoring the Griffons 13-4 over the final six-plus minutes to tie things up.

Four free throws from Weeter pulled the Tigers within five before Mortensen hit a layup to make it a one-possession game with four minutes to play. The Tigers closed within one on a Loewe layup before the Griffons pushed the lead to three with a pair of free throws with four seconds to go.

After calling a timeout to advance the ball, FHSU got the ball to Weeter at the top of the key where she made a ball fake to get an open look at a game-tying 3-pointer. The attempt swished through the net with 1.2 seconds to go, giving the Tigers their first long-range make in the second half after 11 misses.

After giving up the late lead, Missouri Western bounced back in overtime, hitting a 3-pointer 18 seconds in to take the lead for good. The Griffons hit 3-of-4 from the floor in the extra period while holding the Tigers to an 0-for-6 effort from the floor in OT, extending their stay in Kansas City to the weekend.

Four Tigers scored in double figures for the sixth time this season, including 20 each from Weeter and Mortensen, 16 from Loewe and a career-best 12 from Schumann for a second-straight game. Mortensen added a career-high 15 rebounds, tallying her second-career double-double. That quartet of players combined for all 68 Tiger points.

Mia Morel led the Griffons with 32 points while attempting 36 field goals. The Tigers outrebounded the Griffons by 10, 57-47.
