The TMP-Marian girls track and field team had 17 medal
winners Tuesday as they brought home the team title from the Ellsworth
Invitational.

The Monarchs amassed 97 team points, 31 more than second
place Pratt.

Among the 17 top six finishers were a pair of first place
finishers.

Macara Rohr won the girls triple jump with a distance of 34’
10 ¼ inches. Her teammate Emma Basgall was third and Aliya Seib was fifth.

Seib also earned a pair of second place finishes in the high
jump and long jump. Basgall was third in the long jump and Nevaeh Weigel
finished sixth.

Basgall also earned a fourth place finish in the 100 meters.

Tessa Wentling finished third in the high jump.

Shalee Gottschalk won the girls 100 meter hurdles with a
time of 16.41 seconds. Gottschalk also earned a third place finished in the 300
hurdles.

Anna Cappuccio finished second in the pole vault.

Michaela Dickman earned a fifth place in the 1600 meters and
fourth in the 3200 meters. Ella Bain finished right behind her in fifth.

Dickman, Rachel Staab, Ainsleigh Bain and Allison Weber were
all members of the 4x800 meter relay team that finished fifth.

Fort Hays State receiver getting attention as NFL draft nears

GOODLAND -&nbsp;The TMP boys golf team finished fourth at the Goodland
Invitational Tuesday at Sugar Hills Golf Club.

The Monarchs combined to shot a 378 as a team, 20 shots
behind Hoxie who won the team title. Ellis was seventh and the Hays High JV
team finished 10th.

TMP’s Pake Dewey led the Monarchs with a sixth place finish
individually. He fired a 15-over 87, six shots off the lead.

Landon Rozean was 17th and Heuer Brungardt
finished 27th.

Ellis’ Austin Carroll was the top finished for the Railers
in 5th. Kaishen Brack was tied for 18th. 

Hays High’s Jaxon Zimmerman finished in a tied for 11th
with a 90.

The Hays High softball team split a doubleheader at home
against Garden City Tuesday. Garden City used a four-run fourth inning on their
way to an 8-2 win in the first game and the Riley Dreher homered as the Indians
bounced back with a win in game two 5-1.

GAME 1: Garden City 8, Hays 2 Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning the Indians
plated a pair of runs taking a 2-1 lead.

Riley Dreher tied the game with an RBI double with one out
and then on the second straight dropped third strike of the inning Dreher scored on a passed
ball putting Hays up 2-1.

But the lead was short-lived when the Buffaloes added a run
in the top of the second tying the game at two.

Garden City built on their lead with a four-run fourth and
two more in the seventh on their way to the 8-2 win.

Dreher collected a pair of hits for the Indians. 

Aubree Thomas suffered the loss for Hays High. She allowed
six runs, two earned on six hits with nine strikeouts in four innings.

GAME 2: Hays 5, Garden City 1 The Indians scored three runs in the bottom of the first
inning and that was all they needed to win game two of the doubleheader as
starter Aubree Thomas allowed just one run in the victory.

After back-to-back singles to open the bottom of the first, Riley Dreher cleared the bases with one swing, a three-run homerun, putting Hays
up 3-0.

Thomas scored a run on a passed ball, with the bases loaded
in the third as Hays High took a 4-0 lead.

After Garden City scored a run in the fourth, the Indians
added a fifth run in the bottom of the sixth on a passed ball on their way to the 5-1
victory.

Thomas allowed just one run on five hits with 11 strikeouts
in a complete game victory.

Thomas and Dezarae Schmidt each collected a pair of hits and
Dreher drove in three for the Indians.

The Indians will host Great Bend on Tuesday.

🥎Hays High splits home doubleheader with Garden City

GREAT BEND – The Hays High baseball team split a road
doubleheader Tuesday at Great Bend. The Indians had the lead in game one but
couldn’t hold it in a 5-4 loss. In the second game, Hays scored a run in the top
of the seventh for the 5-4 victory.

GAME 1: Great Bend 5, Hays 4 The Indians jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, scoring single
runs in the first and third innings.

Hays loaded the bases in the top of the first inning
with three straight singles before Bradyn Dreher scored the games first run on
a passed ball. 

After back-to-back singles to open the third, Hays’ Carson
Spray gave the Indians a 2-0 lead with an RBI single.

Leading 2-1, Hays plated two runs in the top of the sixth
inning building a 4-1 lead. Their first run came on an error and then Jack
Weimer added a sacrifice fly putting Hays up by three, but it was a lead they
couldn’t hold onto.

Great Bend scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and
then earned the walk-off victory on an RBI triple in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 5-4 win.

Dreher collected three hits and Spray and Weimer each drove
in a run. Tanner Boxberger allowed a run on four hits in the seventh and
suffered the loss.

GAME 2: Hays 5, Great Bend 4 In the final game of the day the Indians got a run in the
top of the seventh, breaking at 4-4 tie, in a 5-4 victory.

Just like in the first game, Hays (5-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead
in the third inning. Derrik Riggs drove in the games first run, in the top of
the first inning, on an RBI groundout putting Hays up 1-0.

The Indians added a second run in the top of the third
inning on a Riggs RBI single giving Hays a 2-0 lead.

Great Bend got a run in the bottom of the third but Hays
answered with two in the fourth.

Toby May doubled in the first run and then scored on an RBI
groundout by Cooper Sanders giving Hays a 4-1 lead.

Great Bend scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and
tied the game at four with a run in the fifth inning.

With the game still tied in the top of the seventh, Sanders
led off the inning with a single and Bradyn Dreher doubled him in putting Hays
up 5-4.

Sanders collected three hits in the Indians victory.

Cooper Johnson earned the win for Hays High with three
innings of relief. He allowed just one run on four hits with three strikeouts.

The Hays High Indians host Dodge City for two next Tuesday.

The girls ended their first and third games with ties and lost the second game by one goal. After ending the championship game&nbsp;with&nbsp;a 1-1 score, they battled it out with penalty kicks. Hays Storm fell short and ended the tournament with the finalist title. Proud of this group of girls and how they never give up.&nbsp;The next&nbsp;tournament will be in Wichita at the Air Capital Cup&nbsp;on&nbsp;April 15 and 16.

Hays Soccer Club Storm finalists in Sporting KC tournament

HAYS – The TMP-Marian Monarchs softball team earned a doubleheader sweep
of the Ellis Railroaders Tuesday at the Monarchs Softball Complex. The Monarchs (7-3, 4-0 MCL) used an eight-run third inning to take game one 14-2 in run-rule fashion and then rallied
with four runs in the sixth for a 12-11 win in game two.

Game 1: TMP 14, Ellis 2 Ellis got a run in the top of the first inning for a 1-0
lead but the Monarchs bats came alive in the bottom of the second inning.

Karli Komarek singled with two outs in the inning and the
scored two batters later on an error evening the game at one. Madison Augustine
delivered a two-run single in the following at bat but TMP up 3-1, and they
never trailed again.

Ellis got a run back in the top of the third innings, but
Jaci VonLintel connected on a two-run homerun in the bottom of the inning putting
TMP up 5-2. Teagan Gottschalk added two more with a triple and then Augustine
drove in another run for an 8-2 lead on an RBI single.

After back-to-back errors and two straight groundouts the
Monarchs built an 11-2 lead through three innings.

TMP added three more runs on back-to-back errors in the
fourth inning building a 14-2 lead through four innings. 

Augustine earned the win. She allowed just two runs on five
hits with seven strikeouts in five innings. 

Hannah Garcia, Komarek and Augustine each collected a pair
of hits and Augustine added four RBI’s. VonLintel drove in three runs.

GAME 2: TMP 12, Ellis 11 The Monarchs scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth
inning as they rallied for a 12-11 win in the second game of the doubleheader.

The game started with Ellis scoring two runs in the top of
the first and second innings.

Down 4-0, the Monarchs got all four runs back in the bottom of
the second inning.

TMP opened the inning with an Ellis error and a walk. Karli
Komarek drove in the Monarchs first run of the game with an RBI single . TMP added a second run on an error. Sophie Allen’s
two-run homerun tied the game at four in the bottom of the second.

With the game tied at four Ellis scored three in their half
of the third for a 7-4 lead but the Monarchs got two of those runs back in the
bottom of the inning cutting Ellis’ lead 7-6.

Ellis surrendered four straight walks to open the bottom of
the fourth with Jaci VonLintel walking in the game tying run for a 7-7 score. The
Monarchs then took the lead on a passed ball at 8-7 through four innings.

The Railers went back on top scoring three in the top of the sixth for a 10-8
lead.

But the Monarchs answered with four in the bottom of the
inning for a 12-10 lead. 

The inning started with back-to-back hit by pitches and then
TMP loaded the bases with an intentional walk. 

TMP scored on a wild pitch and followed that with a run
scored on an error putting TMP up 12-10.

Ellis got a run back in the top of the seventh but the
Monarchs held on for the 12-11 victory.

Halle Dreiling, Jaci VonLintel and Adison Watson each
collected two hits. Karli Komarek drove in three runs for the Monarchs.

Madison Augustine got the victory. She allowed 11 total
runs, seven earned, on nine hits in six innings with four strikeouts and six
walks.

Komarek drove in the Monarchs first run of the game with an RBI single . TMP added a second run on an error. Sophie Allen’s
two-run homerun tied the game at four in the bottom of the second.With the game tied at four Ellis scored three in their half
of the third for a 7-4 lead but the Monarchs got two of those runs back in the
bottom of the inning cutting Ellis’ lead 7-6.Ellis surrendered four straight walks to open the bottom of
the fourth with Jaci VonLintel walking in the game tying run for a 7-7 score. The
Monarchs then took the lead on a passed ball at 8-7 through four innings.The Railers went back on top scoring three in the top of the sixth for a 10-8
lead.But the Monarchs answered with four in the bottom of the
inning for a 12-10 lead. The inning started with back-to-back hit by pitches and then
TMP loaded the bases with an intentional walk. TMP scored on a wild pitch and followed that with a run
scored on an error putting TMP up 12-10.Ellis got a run back in the top of the seventh but the
Monarchs held on for the 12-11 victory.Halle Dreiling, Jaci VonLintel and Adison Watson each
collected two hits. Karli Komarek drove in three runs for the Monarchs.Madison Augustine got the victory. She allowed 11 total
runs, seven earned, on nine hits in six innings with four strikeouts and six
walks.

🥎TMP softball rallies to sweep Ellis

HAYS – The TMP-Marian offense carried the Monarchs (2-4, 2-0
MCL) to their first wins of the season Tuesday as they sweep their MCL rivals
Ellis 7-5 in game one and 16-2 in game two.

GAME 1: TMP 7, Ellis 5 The Railroaders opened the game with a four-run first inning, taking advantage of an error and scoring runs on a wild pitch, a pair of passed
balls and a bases loaded walk.

With Ellis leading 4-0, freshman Cade Dinkel came in with two
outs in the first and stranded a pair runners and then proceed to allow just
one run over the next six innings helping the Monarchs rally for the victory.

Down 4-0, the Monarchs began chipping away at the Ellis
lead, scoring three in the bottom of the first.

Joey Mindrup got the rally started with a one-out single. That was the first of four straight singles for the Monarchs with Kendall Walker driving in a
run and Dinkel adding two more cutting the Ellis lead to 4-3.

Ellis added another run in the second taking a 5-3 lead.

Railer starter Ian McGuire retired 10 straight Monarchs as
Ellis held onto the 5-3 heading into the fifth inning. But that was the inning the Monarchs offense was able to score four runs on three hits taking a
7-5 lead.

After a single by Adler Brown and Ian Nehls reached on an error
Mindrup singled in the first run of the inning. Carson Liles added a sacrifice
fly and then Dinkel added his second two-run single of the game putting TMP up
7-5.

Dinkel picked up his first win of the season. He allowed
just one run on nine hits over six and a third innings.

Mindrup finished two-for-three with two runs scored and an
RBI. 

Game 2: TMP 16, Ellis 2 The Monarchs offensive production continued to play well
into game two, scoring 10 runs in the fourth inning in a 16-2 run-rule victory.

Ellis loaded the bases in the first three innings of game
two against TMP starter Carson Liles but managed just one run over the three
innings while the Monarchs built a 6-1 lead through three innings.

The Monarchs scored four runs in the bottom of the first
inning.

Joey Mindrup opened the inning with a one-out walk, he then
scored on an error. Carson Liles, who reached on the error scored on a Garrett
Feauto RBI single. TMP added two more runs on an error for a 4-0 lead.

Up 4-0 the Monarchs got three straight walks to open the
second inning TMP scored on a wild pitch and added a second run in the inning
on a Caden Dinkel sacrifice fly.

Trailing 6-0, Ellis added single runs in the third and
fourth cutting the TMP lead to 6-2.

Leading by four the Monarchs offense exploded for 10 runs in
the fourth inning. They collected eight singles in the inning while sending 15
to the plate.

Treger Williby, Adler Brown, Kendall Walker, Dinkel and
Feauto all drove in a run with RBI single as the Monarchs secured the 16-2
run-rule victory.

Liles earned the win, his first of the season, with three
innings. He allowed just one run on two hits with a season-high eight
strikeouts and seven walks.

Mindrup scored four runs and Feauto and Dinkel each drove in
a pair of runs.

The Tigers (17-24, 7-17 MIAA) never trailed, taking an early 2-0 lead on an&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/emile-boies/7253">Emile Boies</a>&nbsp;two-run home run in the bottom of the first. Bebee took care of business on the mound, retiring the first seven batters he faced. The FHSU defense handled its business as well, turning several hard-hit ground balls into routine plays on the infield while the outfield made several catches on the run while battling the wind. Bebee faced the minimum in each of the first four innings, giving up one walk that was promptly erased with a double play. The Jets (19-21, 11-13 MIAA) collected their first hit in the fifth before scoring one run on a walk, base hit and sacrifice bunt in the sixth.

The Tigers had a chance to add on more runs in the third, with the first two batters hitting safely, but the Jets got out of the jam with back-to-back strikeouts. Colby Wilson, Newman's starter, retired 11 consecutive batters over the heart of the contest to give the Jets a chance to strike back, but Bebee was effective enough to hold off the surge. The par-72, 6,066-yard course played tough all week, with the field stroke average coming in at 84.2 after three rounds of competition. The Tigers turned in back-to-back rounds of 335 on day one before shaving 11 strokes off that score in Tuesday's round three, finishing with the sixth-best round of the day at 36-over 324. FHSU finished the 17-team tournament with a 54-hole total of 994, three back of 10th place Central Oklahoma and four behind ninth-place Missouri Southern. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-golf/roster/morgan-brasser/6948">Morgan Brasser</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-golf/roster/aliyah-north/6953">Aliyah North</a>&nbsp;both finished in the top 20 in the 91-player field. The Fort Hays State baseball team will host Newman at Larks Park for their final midweek contest of the season on Tuesday. This will be the third and final game of the midweek season series between the Jets and the Tigers. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.

The Tigers took one of three games from Northeastern State last weekend snapping a 16-game losing streak to the RiverHawks. The Tigers are batting .302 as a team and continue to lead all of DII in sacrifice bunts with 46. FHSU ranks third in the MIAA with 189 walks drawn while ranking in the top half of the conference in the majority of the remaining offensive categories including runs (288), hits (397), doubles (73), triples (10), RBI (251), slugging percentage (.461), and on base-percentage (.405).

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/jake-campbell/6805">Jake Campbell</a>&nbsp;tossed a complete game in the 6-3 win over the RiverHawks while&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/jenner-kehe/6818">Jenner Kehe</a>&nbsp;had an impressive weekend at the plate with six hits including a three-run homer that gave the Tigers the edge in the victory.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/isaiah-ural/7272">Isaiah Ural</a>&nbsp;owns a team-best .378 average tallying 54 hits including 13 doubles, four triples, and four home runs.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/ed-scott/6827">Ed Scott</a>&nbsp;has drawn a team-high 30 walks this season in the lead off spot for the Tigers.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/elliott-herrmann/7260">Elliott Herrmann</a>&nbsp;ranks fourth in the MIAA with 48 RBI this season.

Campbell's complete game was the fourth by a Tiger pitcher this season joining&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/cade-flaherty/6811">Cade Flaherty</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/daniel-bebee/7252">Daniel Bebee</a>, who has done it twice.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/andrew-hansen/7259">Andrew Hansen</a>&nbsp;continues to lead the team in strikeouts with 41 followed by Flaherty with 36.

The Tigers will look to avoid the series sweep in Tuesday's contest after dropping the first game in Hays earlier this season and the road contest in Wichita a couple of weeks ago. Fort Hays State is 22-31-1 against Newman all-time managing to win three of the last eight meetings.

Newman is currently sixth in the MIAA standings, seven games back from conference-leader Central Missouri. The Jets are batting .329 as a team, which is tied with UCM for the best in the conference, while pushing across 339 runs in 39 games. Jenner Steele owns a team-best .397 average tallying 62 hits including 12 doubles, two triples, and 12 home runs. This contest will feature the two highest team ERA's in the MIAA with Newman owning a 7.22 mark and Fort Hays State posting an 8.33 average on the mound.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Andrew Heaney tied an AL record by striking out nine consecutive batters, Adolis Garcia’s sixth-inning grand slam was one of three Texas home runs and the Rangers routed the Kansas City Royals 11-2 on Monday night.

Heaney (1-1) began the streak by fanning Matt Duffy and Nicky Lopez to end the first inning, then struck out the side in the second and third innings. After Salvador Perez went down swinging leading off the fourth inning, Matt Duffy ended the streak with a flyout to right field.

Heaney threw 93 pitches and left after five innings, allowing two runs – one earned – on two hits. That after he allowed seven runs and recorded only eight outs last Tuesday in his Texas debut.

“I felt like I owed it to the guys, owed it to the fans, to myself to be better than what I was,” said Heaney, who signed as a free agent in December.

After three of the first four batters reached and resulted in an unearned run, he said, “It all just kind of like started just going. It sort of evolved.”

Heaney matched a record shared by Detroit reliever Tyler Alexander against Cincinnati on Aug. 2, 2020, and Detroit reliever Doug Fister against Kansas City on Sept. 27, 2012.

The major league record for consecutive strikeouts is 10, set by the New York Mets’ Tom Seaver on April 22, 1970, and matched by the Philadelphia Phillies’ Aaron Nola on June 25, 2021, and the Milwaukee Brewers’ Corbin Burnes on Aug. 11, 2021.

“He’s got an interesting delivery,” said first-year Royals manager Matt Quatraro, who returned to action after missing the team’s previous five games with COVID-19. “Low slot, carry guy, so the ball had that rising appearance to it, and it’s tough to lay off. He did a good job, to his credit, pitching at the top of the zone or just above.”

Garcia’s slam capped a seven-run sixth inning and snapped his 0-for-16 slump.

Corey Seager and Jonah Heim also homered off Royals right-hander Zack Greinke (0-3). Greinke gave up four runs, three earned, in five innings.

Hunter Dozier homered for Kansas City in the seventh inning.

Seager had three hits, two off Grienke. Seager is 10 for 24 with four homers off the 2009 AL Cy Young winner.

Major League Baseball has new rules this season that limit the use of position players as pitchers. But Kansas City qualified in the eighth inning, and Quatroro sent right fielder Nate Eaton to the mound for his first pitching appearance since he was VMI’s closer in 2018.

Former New York Yankees star Ron Guidry had nine straight outs that were strikeouts against the Rangers on May 10, 1986. The Rangers’ starter that game was Bobby Witt, father of the Royals’ current shortstop.

Nolan Ryan held Texas’ record of strikeouts against seven straight batters, against California on July 7, 1991. … Bruce Bochy moved into 11th place in career managerial wins with 2,009. … Greinke is 0-11 in his last 18 road starts since beating the Los Angeles Angels for the Houston Astros on Aug. 13, 2021.

Royals: LHP Daniel Lynch (rotator cuff strain) is scheduled to throw a bullpen in Arizona on Tuesday.

soccer team won their second straight game on the newly turfed field at Hays High school Monday. The Indians blanked Junction City 6-0 to move to 6-2 on the season.

and Dani Willeford both scored two goals helping the Indians to their third win in the their last four matches.

Newell scored HHS' first goal in the 11th minute on an assist from Willeford. Willeford then added goals in the 24th and 36th minute with Newell finding the back of the net one minute later for a 4-0 halftime lead.

Newell assisted on a second half goal from Katie Dinkel in the 51st minute. Ava Biggs rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 78th minute.

HAYS - The Hays High gold team of Kaiden Bunger, Logan Chance, Henry Fitzhum, Xavier Catura, Kale Schwien and Ken Shaffer finished in first place at Hays Varsity Invitational Monday.

The Indians 'Gold' scored 36 points and finished 10 points ahead of second place Liberal.

Both the No. 1 Doubles team of&nbsp;Henry Fitzthum and Xavier Catura and the No. 2 Doubles team of&nbsp;Kale Schwien and Ken Shaffer both went 5-0 and finished in first place.

Kaiden Bunger went 3-2 and finished third at No. 1 Singles. Logan Chance went 1-4 and finished fifth in No. 2 Singles.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — First-year Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro returned to the dugout for the Royal's game against the Texas Rangers on Monday night after missing the previous five games with COVID-19.

The Royals went 2-3 under interim manager Paul Hoover, their bench coach. Kansas City lost four of its first five games under Quatraro, who left the team one game into a three-game home series against Toronto.

“I missed it,” Quatraro said. “Not everybody gets a break after five days in their career. Poorly timed, but I’m happy to be back.”

Quatraro participated in phases of pregame planning while away, giving Hoover and the other coaches basic instructions. But once the games began, he was just another spectator – a highly interested one.

“It was watch TV and pace around the house,” he said. “Eat too much, probably.”

Quatraro, 49, is a major league manager for the first time. He most recently was the Tampa Bay Rays’ bench coach.

The Royals won two of three at San Francisco over the weekend on the first half of a six-game road trip. That leaves Quatraro one game behind his interim manager in winning percentage.

“He’s way ahead of me,” Quatraro said. “Hopefully I can catch him. I was hoping he got a better lead.”

Quatraro said he felt fine after his bout with COVID-19, sitting out the mandatory minimum according to Major League Baseball. He tested positive last May and missed five Rays games.
