⚽ FHSU women open MIAA play with third-straight shutout

JOPLIN, Mo. – Fort Hays State Women's Soccer opened MIAA play on Friday evening with a 2-0 shutout of Missouri Southern. It was the third-straight shutout for the Tigers as they moved to 4-1-2 overall and 1-0 in the MIAA. The Lions moved to 1-4-2 overall, 0-1 in the MIAA.

The Tigers did all of their scoring in about a five-minute span. They took the lead in the 23rd minute when Sullivan Kelly sent a corner kick into the box which found the head of Britney Arneson and then redirected off the foot of Taylor Hill for a goal. In the 28th minute, Kelly sent another ball into the box, this time headed in by Allison Worley to put the Tigers up 2-0.

FHSU allowed 10 shots and five on goal, all saved by Mackenzie Caldwell. She picked up her fourth shutout of the season and third straight in the winning effort. The opposition has been scoreless against Caldwell for just over the last 335 minutes played.

The Tigers finished with 16 shots, led by Sydney Cotter with five. Missouri Southern keeper Bella Smith saved five of the seven shots on goal by the Tigers.

Fort Hays State will play its first-ever match against Pittsburg State on Sunday, which is in its first season as a program. Match time is set for 1 p.m. in Pittsburg.
