KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs announced Monday that they signed coach Andy Reid, general manager Brett Veach and team president Mark Donovan to contract extensions, though the team did not say how long the deals would last or provide any other details.

The Chiefs only said in a statement that “the leadership team of the Chiefs will remain in place for the long-term future.”

“Mark, Brett and Andy have achieved historic success together, and we are thrilled that they will continue in their roles for many years to come,” Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said in a statement. “Individually, Mark, Brett and Andy each represent the best in the National Football League at their respective positions, and together, they make up one of the finest leadership teams in all of professional sports. They have been tremendous leaders for this organization on and off the field."

On the field, the Chiefs have won seven consecutive AFC West titles, four conference championships and three Super Bowl titles, including the past two. They also have been in six consecutive AFC championship games.

They will head into next season trying to become the first team ever to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

“I’m incredibly grateful to Clark and the entire Hunt family for giving me the opportunity to lead this historic franchise,” Reid said in a statement. “There have been so many people that have contributed to our success and Super Bowls, and I’m grateful to the players, coaches and staff that have all invested their time into this process."

Veach, who was largely responsible for drafting Patrick Mahomes before he was promoted to GM, has worked side-by-side with Reid to build one of the deepest rosters in the NFL. Veach has been particularly adept when it comes to the draft, selecting such stars as linebacker Nick Bolton and All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie in recent years.

Donovan has been in charge of off-the-field work, such as expanding the team's international fanbase and footprint.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Bo Bichette had a bases-clearing triple, Daulton Varsho hit a two-run homer and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Kansas City Royals 5-3 on Monday night.

The Jays have won seven of nine. The Royals lost their third straight at home after winning their previous nine at Kauffman Stadium.

Yusei Kikuchi (2-1) was efficient early, allowing one baserunner on 48 pitches in the first five innings.

“(Kikuchi) was lights out early, he just ran into trouble on the sixth,” Toronto manager John Schneider said. “That’s as efficient as I’ve ever seen him with his pitch count. He was attacking guys, getting weak contact and strikeouts.

"And (we got) huge hits from Bo and Varsho, obviously.”

Kikuchi allowed a two-run home run by Maikel Garcia in the sixth. With two outs, Vinnie Pasquantino hit an infield single and Salvador Perez followed with a double. But Kikuchi retired Nelson Velázquez on a grounder to end the threat.

“My fastball was working really well today,” Kikuchi said through an interpreter. “I was able to throw it up in the zone to a lot to those hitters.”

Right-hander Tyler Duffey, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Omaha earlier Monday, worked two scoreless innings in relief, striking out three.

Jordan Romano surrendered a homer by Kyle Isbel in the ninth but finished for his third save of the season and 100th of his career.

“That’s awesome for him,” Schneider said. “Knowing him for a long time and seeing him as a starter in the minors, a lot of credit goes to him. It’s not easy to do, whether it’s a three-run lead or a one-run lead. He’s been doing it for a number of years now. (I'm) really glad we won, but really happy for him. He’s actually turned himself into a pretty elite closer.”

Brady Singer (2-1) allowed five runs on five hits in six innings. He struck out five and walked three, all of whom scored.

“(Singer) was throwing harder at the beginning of the game,” Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. “He had some good movement on his two-seamer and in his breaking ball. He threw a couple four-seamers in there as well. But he really just got hurt by the walks.”

Singer struck out the first two Toronto batters in the second inning, becoming the 19th Royals pitcher to reach 500 career strikeouts. He tied Steve Busby as the fastest Royals pitcher to achieve the milestone, getting there in his 100th appearance.

“I'm fortunate enough to play this game, so it's really cool,” Singer said.

Singer issued two walks in the third that cost him. His free pass to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. loaded the bases, and Bichette lined a triple off the glove of center fielder Garrett Hampson to score three runs.

Varsho's homer in the sixth made it 5-0, and the Royals' two homers weren't enough.

“The homers are nice,” Quatraro said. “We just need to sustain some things and be able to score in other ways as well.”

Royals: LHP Anthony Veneziano was optioned to Omaha to make room for Duffey.

Blue Jays: RHP Alek Manoah, who has yet to pitch this season because of a shoulder injury, is scheduled to start for Triple-A Buffalo Wednesday or Thursday.

The four-game series continues Tuesday with Toronto sending Kevin Gausman (0-2, 8.16 ERA) to the mound to face Michael Wacha (1-2, 3.75).

⚾Bo Bichette has 3-run triple as Blue Jays beat Royals

Growing up, Ellis senior Logan Russell had always dreamed of playing college football.

It wasn't until his sophomore season that dream started to look like a reality, when, just by chance, he became the Railroaders' starting punter and kicker and one of the best specialists in the state.

A little more than two years later, Russell officially
signed his letter of intent to play football at Fort Hays State University, earlier
this month. 

For Russell, the chance to play at Fort Hays State is a dream
come true.

“Just being 15 minutes away from a place where I get to play
college football and going to watch since I was a little kid, it just has
always been my dream,” Russell said. 

“Three of the older Fort Hays football
players were like brothers to me. They were Connor Shedeed, Doyin Jibowu and Nathan
Shepherd. Those three were like my older brothers, and they just helped me get
through a lot.”

Russell said his parents had always told him he had a strong
leg, but it wasn’t until his sophomore year, while having fun in practice, that
the coaches noticed. 

“My parents always told me that I had a really strong arm
and a strong leg, and I never really took that for granted,” Russell said. 

“Once
that junior year hit, I got MCL and first-team all-state in 1A football (honors). That really proved to me that I could do something with the ability that God has given me. My parents have always pushed me to do that.”

He took over the punting duties early in his sophomore
season and averaged almost 38 yards per punt in his three years serving as the
varsity punter with 14 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line.

He finished as a three-time all-Mid-Continent League punter
and a two-time all-state selection.

Russell said Fort Hays State coach Layton Hickel reached out
first, expressing the Tigers' interest in signing him. He said he was excited to get that phone call.

"I was sitting in our truck and automatically turned off
the phone and just prayed. I was like, 'Thank you, Lord, for giving me this
opportunity. I know I've been asking so much recently, but I said thank you,
Lord, for giving me this opportunity, and I won't let you down," Russell said.

He also said he left his visit with the coaching staff feeling
like he had an opportunity to contribute.

"After talking with the coaches, they were like, Hey, we have a great opportunity for you to come here. We need some young guys to come in
and fill some roles. And I was like, I can be that guy. So I'm really excited,"
Russell said. 

Russell said he also wants to help others and be a part of a
support system he experienced with the older Fort Hays State players growing up.

"Whenever I go to Hays, I want to be like that for
other people if I can," Russell said. "Also, knowing that I have friends, we're
also going to play sports in Hays, so I'm not alone. I can always ask for
help from anyone around here."

Russell plans on majoring in pre-physical therapy at Fort
Hays State. 

"I really like math and science. Those are my two favorite
subjects, and physical therapy has always intrigued me," Russell said. I've always wanted to help people with a passion, and physical therapy is the opportunity for me to do
that."

Signing with Fort Hays State a dream come true for Ellis’ Russell

The center fielder had an impressive week at the plate, batting .526 and slugging 1.158 across four games thanks to four home runs. Ural totaled 10 hits in 19 at-bats, driving in six runs and scoring six more runs in the process. Three of his home runs came in the weekend series against Emporia State, including two long balls in Sunday's come-from-behind victory.

Ural was also effective on the base paths and in the field, swiping two bags on two attempts and recording 17 putouts without an error in center. He has now hit safely in 10-consecutive games, including multiple base hits in eight of those 10 contests. Ural is batting .500 over the last 10 games with five home runs and four doubles during that span.

The Albuquerque, N.M. native shared the weekly honor with Central Missouri's Max Holy.

Ural is the third Tiger to earn a weekly conference honor this season, joining Elliott Herrmann (co-Hitter of the Week - 3/12) and Cade Flaherty&nbsp;(Pitcher of the Week - 2/19).

The Tigers will wrap up the regular season with four games on the road this week beginning Tuesday (April 23, 3 p.m.) at William Jewell before FHSU travels to Pittsburg State for the final conference series of the regular season Friday-Sunday (April 26-28).&nbsp;&nbsp;

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State senior golfer Morgan Brasser&nbsp;was named first team All-MIAA for her performance during the 2023-24 season, announced Sunday by the league office. This is Brasser's fourth All-MIAA honor, making her the first women's golfer in school history to earn all-conference honors four times.

The 2022-23 MIAA Women's Golfer of the Year was even better this season, posting a school-record stroke average of 74.23 across 22 rounds. She won two events this spring, helping her tie the school record with six career tournament wins.

A finalist for the 2022-23 MIAA Ken B. Jones Award, Brasser played in 10 events this season, placing inside the top 10 seven times and finishing inside the top five six times. She recorded seven rounds at-or-under par, including a 3-under 69 in the fall that is tied for the best round in school history.

The Andale, Kan. lowered her career stroke average to 76.53 rounds in 93 rounds as a Tiger in the process, another school record. She currently ranks fifth in the Central Region according to the Clippd/Scoreboard rankings and 63rd in Division II, putting her in line to qualify for the Central Region Championships for a fourth time. She would be the first player in team history to play at regionals four times.

⛳ FHSU's Brasser earns fourth All-MIAA honor

HAYS, Kan. - After spotting Emporia State a 7-0 lead, the Fort Hays State baseball team used a pair of home runs from Isaiah Ural, Cesar Saavedra and&nbsp;five innings of scoreless relief from Trevor Baugh to come from behind and defeat the Hornets 10-7 Sunday afternoon at Larks Park. The win gives the Tigers (24-21, 11-19 MIAA) their first series win over Emporia State (19-27, 9-21 MIAA) since 2004 and their first at home s9ince 1999.

With one series remaining in conference play, the Tigers currently sit in a three-way tie for seventh in the league standings. FHSU, Northwest Missouri State and Northeastern State are one game behind Rogers State in sixth and two games in front of Newman, Missouri Western and Emporia State in a tie for 10th. The top eight teams in the standings at the end of the regular season advance to the MIAA Championship Tournament.

Andrew Hansen&nbsp;got the start for the Tigers and retired the side in order in the first before finding trouble in the second, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks. Brett Jacobs&nbsp;got out of the inning with a pop up before surrendering four runs on four hits in the third, giving ESU a seven-run lead.

ESU starter Ian Lanik retired the side in order in both the first and second innings before issuing Kyle Morrell&nbsp;a leadoff walk in the third. Sebastian Burgos&nbsp;followed with a single before Luis Ayala&nbsp;laid down a sacrifice bunt. The Tigers closed within 7-1 on an RBI groundout from Saavedra before Ural crushed his first home run of the game, sending a 1-0 pitch soaring to left center where it bounced off the top of the wall and over the fence.

Brady Kreutzer&nbsp;followed with a single before the left fielder sprinted around the bases and scored from first on a bloop single from Elliott Herrmann, helping the Tigers close within 7-4.

Jacobs worked around a pair of walks in the fourth inning to post a scoreless inning before the Tigers had two men on with zero outs in the home half of the inning but were unable to score. Jacobs then allowed the first two batters to reach in the fifth, prompting the Tigers to go to Baugh. The Tigers got the first out of the inning when Ayala gunned down a would-be base stealer before Baugh escaped the jam with two flyouts.

The Tigers closed within 7-5 in the bottom of the fifth when Ural tallied his second home run of the game, this time a no-doubter to left center.

Baugh continued to puzzle the Hornet lineup for the remainder of the game, tossing five scoreless innings without giving up a hit. He struck out six batters and scattered three walks across the five frames.

Fort Hays State took the lead in the sixth when a pitch hit leadoff hitter Trey DeGarmo. Morrell followed with his second walk of the game, prompting the Hornets to go back to the bullpen. Ayala came through with a two-RBI double that bounced just inside the third-base bag and proceeded into the left-field corner, tying things up at seven.

Next up was Saavedra, who hammered his third home run of the season to left field on a 2-2 pitch to put the Tigers in front, 9-7.

With Baugh dealing on the rubber, the Tigers came up with a big insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when Saavedra and Ural led off with back-to-back singles. Saavedra went first-to-third on Ural's base knock, allowing the leadoff man to score on a sacrifice fly from Herrmann.

ESU's leadoff hitter reached on an error in the top of the ninth before Baugh issued a one-out walk, bringing the tying run to the plate. The righty was not phased, however, with Baugh (3-2) retiring the next hitter on a lazy fly ball to center before completing the win with his sixth strikeout of the game.

Five Tigers recorded multi-hit games, including three from Ural and two each from Saavedra, Kreutzer, Herrmann and Burgos. Ural and Saavedra each drove in three runs, while Ural, Saavedra and Morrell all scored twice.

The Tigers will wrap up the regular season with four games on the road next week beginning Tuesday at William Jewell before travelling to Pittsburg State over the weekend for the final conference series of the year.&nbsp;&nbsp;

⚾ Tigers rally for first series win over Emporia State since 2004

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg hit back-to-back homers for Baltimore off Royals starter Seth Lugo, who had not allowed a home run since last September, and the Orioles went on to beat Kansas City 5-0 on Sunday.

Cole Irvin (1-1) scattered four hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings for Baltimore. He stranded a runner on third in the first inning and another at second base in the fifth while earning his first win since beating the Royals on June 10, 2023.

“Just a quality team game,” Irvin said. “Felt like we did all the little things right today.”

The Royals were shut out for the first time this season after they were blanked 15 times last year.

Lugo (3-1) had pushed his streak of not allowing a homer to 41 1/3 innings before Cowser sent an 0-1 pitch soaring into the right-field fountains leading off the third. Westburg followed two pitches later with his drive into the left-field seats.

Cowser's splash came one day after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kimbrel-save-ball-fountain-a60d00b16645de64c2e8797bb74a1d51">he mistakenly threw the souvenir ball from Craig Kimbrell's 422nd save into the fountains</a>&nbsp;while celebrating the Orioles' 9-7 win. The save tied Kimbrell for seventh on the career list, so Cowser ran back to the field after the game and managed to fish the ball out of the water with the help of some stadium staff.

“We prefer he hit one into the fountains,” Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said, “than throw one in the fountains.”

Lugo, who had allowed three runs in 25 2/3 innings, was dinged for four runs, nine hits and a walk in 5 1/3 innings Sunday.

Ryan Mountcastle added an RBI double and Westburg walked with the bases loaded to make it 4-0 in the sixth. Ryan O'Hearn drove in a run with an infield single in the eighth to help Baltimore pull away.

The Royals tried to rally in the eighth, putting runners at the corners with one out. But Danny Coulombe froze Salvador Perez with a pitch on the inside corner, then struck out Nelson Velázquez to end the inning.

“We didn't get much going,” manager Matt Quatraro said. “We had a couple of chances there where we didn't capitalize. When a team shuts you out, you have to tip your cap.”

Orioles OF Austin Hays (calf) was unavailable Sunday after being pulled from the game the previous night, Hyde said. The club plans to evaluate him again when it arrives in California for a series against the Angels.

Royals LHP Jake Brentz (hamstring) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha. He last appeared in a game for Kansas City on April 29, 2022, before undergoing Tommy John surgery. Brentz hurt his hamstring during a spring training game in March and had been throwing in Arizona.

The Orioles visit the Angels on Monday night, with RHP Albert Suárez getting the start.

🏈 FHSU holds Spring Scrimmage Saturday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Craig Kimbrel tied Billy Wagner for seventh on the career list with his 422nd save, Anthony Santander had the first three-double game of his major league career and the Baltimore Orioles rode a seven-run second inning to a 9-7 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night.

Salvador Perez tied his career high with five RBIs for the Royals, who tried to overcome a 7-0 deficit, and hit a game-ending flyout to Colton Cowser in front of the left-field warning track.

Kimbrel pitched a perfect ninth for his fifth save in six chances this year as the Orioles evened the three-game series. He is two saves behind John Franco on the career list and three back of Kenley Jansen.

Santander sprinted in to make a diving catch on Bobby Witt Jr's flare into short right field starting the ninth.

Corbin Burnes (3-0) pitched shutout ball until allowing Perez's three-run homer in the sixth, Perez's sixth home run this season. Burnes allowed four hits in 5 2/3 innings with four strikeouts and a walk.

Perez added a two-run single in a four-run seventh.

Cole Ragans (0-2) allowed seven runs and nine hits in 1 2/3 innings, Kansas City's shortest start this season.

Baltimore tied its season high with 15 hits, including eight with two strikes. Every Orioles starter had a hit.

Left fielder Austin Hays left after six innings because of calf tightness.

Ramón Urías hit an RBI double in the first and scored on James McCann's single, Adley Rutschman and Ryan Mouncastle hit run-scoring singles, Santander doubled in a run and Jordan Westburg had a a two-run single.

Kansas City placed RHP Jordan Lyles on the inactive list as he deals with a personal matter and recalled LHP Anthony Veneziano from Triple-A Omaha.

&nbsp; HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State baseball team rallied from an early deficit only to fall in extra innings, 7-5 to Emporia State on Saturday at Larks Park. The Tigers (23-21, 10-19 MIAA) tied the score twice in the final two innings thanks to a two-run home run eighth inning home run from Jose Cintron. Luis Ayala scored on a wild pitch&nbsp;in the bottom of the ninth, but the Hornets (19-26, 9-20 MIAA) scored twice in the 10th inning.

Tiger starter Rafael Espinoza&nbsp;was shaky out of the gate, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk in the first inning then surrendered a solo home run in the top of the second. The redshirt-freshman quickly found his groove, scattering four hits over the next 5 1/3 innings.

Fort Hays State left two men on base in each of the first two innings before Isaiah Ural trimmed the deficit to 3-1 with a solo home run to left center. ESU's Graham Brunner retired the next nine batters he faced before Elliott Herrmann&nbsp;made the score 3-2 with a line-drive missile that cleared the fence in left field for the first baseman's 14th home run of the season.

A one-out hit-by-pitch helped Emporia State manufacture a run on a double steal in the top of the eighth, stretching the lead to 4-2, before the Tigers tied things up in the home half of the inning. Brady Kreutzer&nbsp;reached on an infield single, extending his hitting streak to 16 games. Cintron later stepped to the plate with two outs and turned on a 1-2 pitch, crushing his second home run of the weekend over the wall in left to tie the score at four.

The Hornets took advantage of a walk in the top of the ninth, later scoring on a single to regain the lead, 5-4. Luis Ayala&nbsp;led off the ninth with a two hopper to third base, where the Hornet defender dropped the ball as he tried to throw across the diamond. Ayala moved up 90 feet on a Sebastian Burgos&nbsp;sacrifice bunt before Ural lifted a two-out base hit to left, putting runners on the corners. Ayala then scampered home on a wild pitch, leveling the score at five before ESU got out of the inning to send things to extras.

Three walks, two wild pitches, one passed ball and one double helped Emporia State scrape together a pair of runs in the 10th. Kreutzer then led off the bottom of the inning with his second infield single of the game, but Hornet reliever Trent Wartsler finished off the win by retiring the next three batters in order.

Espinoza worked 7 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and four walks while striking out four batters. Dylan Rinker&nbsp;got the Tigers out of the eighth inning, walking one and allowing one hit in 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Landyn Sterling&nbsp;worked the ninth, striking out two and allowing one run on one hit and one walk. Tanner Vaughn&nbsp;(3-2) took the loss after allowing two runs on one hit and two walks while striking out one batter. Spencer Maley&nbsp;finished the 10th, striking out two batters and walking one.

Ural, Kreutzer and Cintron all had two hits each, while five different Tigers came around to score a run.

The Tigers and Hornets will battle in the rubber game of the series Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. at Larks Park.&nbsp;&nbsp;

⚾ FHSU falls to Hornets in in extra innings

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State picked up a much-needed game two win against Newman University on Saturday after seeing its lead in game one slip away at Fleharty Family Field. FHSU led game one 5-0 but saw Newman rally for eight runs in the fifth to get past and take game one 8-6. The Tigers bounced back for a 5-1 win in game two, moving to 24-22 overall and 8-14 in the MIAA. Newman moved to 20-30 overall, 6-16 in the MIAA.

Game 1: Newman 8, Fort Hays State 6 Fort Hays State built a strong 5-0 lead through three innings, but saw Newman break through with a humongous two-out rally in the fifth, turning the tables drastically in the first contest of the day. The Tigers scored one in the sixth, but could not rally back as the Jets stole game one. A Loren Beggs&nbsp;double and Lilliana Ramirez-Johnson&nbsp;single in the second inning set up an RBI single by Audrey Gillespie&nbsp;and RBI single by Madison Pierce&nbsp;to put the Tigers up 2-0. In the third, FHSU put together a two-out rally as Sarah Tiffany&nbsp;singled, Ramirez-Johnson walked, and Gillespie tripled down the right field line to drive in two more. Regan Curry&nbsp;capped the rally with an RBI single up the middle to make it 5-0 Tigers.

Morgan Schmidt&nbsp;threw three shutout innings to open the game and handed the ball to Emma Montoya&nbsp;in the fourth where she escaped a bases-loaded jam in the, but could not escape an offensive surge by the Jets in the fifth. Newman picked up its first run on a one-out RBI double and then loaded the bases. The next seven runs for the Jets came on six straight hits with two outs. A 2-RBI double made it 5-3, chasing Montoya from the game. Schmidt returned in the circle, but an RBI single and then a 2-RBI triple pushed the Jets in front 6-5. Three more singles produced two more runs to cap the big rally. Bailey Carlson&nbsp;relieved to get the final out, but Newman produced nine of their 16 hits in the game in the fifth.

A Madison Pierce&nbsp;double and Carly Stuke&nbsp;single put the Tigers in business in the sixth, but they only pushed one run across on an Alondra Dominguez&nbsp;RBI groundout. FHSU got a baserunner with one out in the seventh, but Newman pitcher Jackie Gold retired the next two Tigers to finish her complete-game effort. Gold moved to 11-10 on the year with the result, while Schmidt took the loss and moved to 7-11 on the season.

Gold finished with seven strikeouts for the Jets, while Schmidt had three in 3.0 innings of work. Montoya (1 2/3 innings) and Carlson (2 1/3 innings) each had one strikeout. FHSU had 11 hits in the game, led by Tiffany, Gillespie, Curry and Pierce all with two.

Game 2: Fort Hays State 5, Newman 1 Savanah Egger&nbsp;shut the door on any hope of a Jet sweep by going the distance for her 19th&nbsp;complete game of the season in the second contest of the day. Egger held the Jets scoreless through five innings before yielding her only run allowed in the sixth. Meanwhile, the Tigers gave her a four-run lead with three in the fourth and one in the fifth before getting the run back given up in the bottom of the sixth.

FHSU blitzed Newman in the fourth with six-straight hits to open the inning. Loren Beggs&nbsp;singled and Alondra Dominguez&nbsp;doubled down the left field line to drive in Beggs. Audrey Gillespie&nbsp;then drove in Dominguez with a single. Lilliana Ramirez-Johnson&nbsp;and Regan Currty&nbsp;each singled to load the bases and then a Madison Pierce&nbsp;RBI single up the middle capped the rally.

The Tigers picked up a run in the fifth when a two-out single by Gillespie led to an RBI triple by Ramirez-Johnson. A Pierce double to open the sixth led to a sacrifice fly RBI by Carly Stuke&nbsp;to cap the scoring in the game.

Egger scattered five hits and struck out one for her 13th&nbsp;win of the season. Gillespie and Pierce each had 3-for-3 games at the plate, while Ramirez-Johnson had two hits. Seven of the nine Tigers in the lineup contributed to their 12 hits in the game.

Fort Hays State heads on the road for its final two MIAA doubleheaders next week. The Tigers play at Northeastern State on Friday (April 26) and then Rogers State on Saturday (April 27). The Tigers will be looking to potentially clinch a spot in the MIAA Tournament, which will involve the top-10 teams in the conference this season.&nbsp;&nbsp;

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Vinnie Pasquantino and MJ Melendez homered to help the Kansas City Royals beat Baltimore 9-4 on Friday night and stop the Orioles’ four-game winning streak.

Adley Rutschman hit his first career grand slam for the Orioles, a seventh-inning homer off Will Smith.

Dean Kremer (0-2) retired his first 11 batters before Pasquantino drove a 1-1 splitter into the right-field bullpen for his fourth homer.

Pasquantino has four homers and 11 RBIs during an eight-game hitting streak.

“Vinnie did a great job getting us going with that homer,” Michael Massey said. “It felt like one of those nights where we had to scratch and claw, and it broke open late for us.”

Returning from the injured list in his season debut, Massey had two hits and two RBIs.

MJ Melendez sparked a five-run sixth with an RBI single that ended an 0-for-23 slide. Massey and Hunter Renfroe each had two-run hits for a 6-0 lead.

“We were able to find some good at-bats late when we needed to and have a big inning,” Melendez said.

Maikel Garcia stopped an 0-for-26 slide with a leadoff single in the seventh and Melendez hit a three-run homer off Dillon Tate.

“A sinker, middle of the plate,” said Melendez. “Didn’t miss it.”

Kansas City won its ninth straight home game, their longest home winning streak since May 27-June 15, 2016.

Marsh (3-0) escaped jams in the first and fourth innings, working around a pair of Rutschman singles. Marsh allowed three hits and two walks, striking out six in 5 2/3 scoreless innings.

“We made a couple of mistakes there in the first with the scoring opportunity, and then with the bases loaded off a guy we’ve had a tough time with,” Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said. “Just didn’t push any runs across.”

Kremer allowed three runs, two hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings. Three Baltimore relievers surrendered six runs on seven hits in 2 1/3 innings.

“Dean threw the ball great,” Hyde said. “A couple of walks in the sixth, but left with two outs in a 1-0 game. We’ve got to do a batter job of shutting the door for him. We just didn’t pitch great out of the pen.”

Baltimore stopped a five-game streak of hitting at least three home runs, falling one shy of the major league record set by the 1987 Orioles.
