LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Kansas punt returner Trevor Wilson has been named the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Wilson scored a touchdown for the second consecutive week has he returned a UCF punt 82 yards for a touchdown during the second quarter of KU’s 51-22 conference victory on Saturday. The 82-yard return is tied for the fifth-longest in Kansas football history and is the longest in the Big 12 this season. It was also the first special teams touchdown scored by a Kansas player since Cobee Bryant returned a blocked field goal attempt for a score in last year’s season opener against Tennessee Tech.

From Tallahassee, Florida, Wilson becomes the first Jayhawk to return a punt for a touchdown since Nick Harwell did it against West Virginia in 2014. It was his lone return of the day and second of the season. Through six games, Kansas now leads FBS football with an average of 31.0 yards per punt return.

Offensively, Wilson has also contributed at the wide receiver position with five catches for 83 yards, averaging 16.6 yards per reception. He hauled in his second career receiving touchdown at Texas on Sept. 30, a 58-yard reception from Jason Bean.

Wilson becomes the 16th Kansas player to be named the Big 12’s Special Teams Player of the Week and first since Pooka Williams Jr. claimed the honor on Oct. 19, 2020. This is his first career player of the week honor and the second this season for a Kansas player as Wilson joins Cobee Bryant, who was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 25.

No. 23 Kansas (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 14, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, as the Jayhawks face Oklahoma State. Kickoff from Boone Pickens Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on FS1.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Patrick Mahomes threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter, one to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-kansas-city-kelce-e97f370dc8931de37cc0875dd53cf46d">Travis Kelce</a>&nbsp;after the All-Pro tight end briefly left the game with an&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-travis-kelce-injury-c8292645dc17ed7c15687a394311e977">ankle injury</a>, and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Minnesota Vikings 27-20 on Sunday.

Mahomes went 31 for 41 for 281 yards and no turnovers in his most efficient performance of the season for the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs (4-1), who once again won while not at their best.

“There's a lot of young guys out there, and we're going to keep everybody moving and going in the right direction,” said Mahomes, who completed passes to 10 different receivers. “I think by the end of the year we're going to be dangerous, because you're not going to know who's going to get those opportunities throughout the game.”

Kirk Cousins threw for scores to Jordan Addison and Alexander Mattison for the Vikings (1-4). They had two chances at the tying touchdown in the final five minutes, but a late&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/vikings-justin-jefferson-hamstring-injury-8ee0680fa47856710f052b9722e0b341">hamstring injury to star wide receiver Justin Jefferson</a>&nbsp;and a lack of timeouts from earlier mismanagement of the game were ultimately too much to overcome.

Jefferson slipped on the turf while trying to make a cut on his route during a third-down pass deep in Kansas City territory. He grabbed the back of his right leg and limped slowly to the sideline.

Mahomes hit Justin Watson with a 33-yard heave on third-and-18 from his own 17 to extend the Chiefs' first possession of the second half. The two-time MVP finished that drive with a tiebreaking 8-yard scoring toss to Rashee Rice.

“We were backed up," Mahomes said. “That really could've changed the game.”

Kelce, whose rumored girlfriend Taylor Swift was not in attendance after the superstar singer attended the Chiefs' previous two games, fell awkwardly to the turf after catching a pass in the second quarter and went for X-rays. He watched the first possession after halftime from the sideline and went back in for the next one.

With coordinator Steve Spagnuolo sending plenty of extra rushers at Cousins, the defense was the catalyst for the Chiefs. Jefferson was held to three catches and 28 yards, both season lows, with cornerback L'Jarius Sneed leading the effort from the secondary.

“They played exceptionally today,” said Chris Jones, who had one of the three sacks and three of the 12 hits on Cousins. “Hats off go to those guys.”

All four of Minnesota's losses have come by eight points or fewer this year after a record 11 wins in 11 one-score games in 2022. The Vikings lost a fumble on their opening possession, again, a turnover by tight end Josh Oliver that the Chiefs recovered at the Minnesota 45. Isaiah Pacheco's touchdown run capped the drive and gave Kansas City the early lead.

The Vikings have an NFL-most 12 turnovers, including eight lost fumbles.

“We need to protect the football, and we need to make plays when they are there,” Cousins said.

After Cousins connected with Mattison on a 9-yard touchdown pass that pulled the Vikings within seven points with 12:11 left, the defense did its part by forcing punts on both of the Chiefs' possessions.

The Vikings had fourth-and-7 at the 19 with 4:54 remaining and took a delay of game penalty. Then Cousins chucked the ball into the end zone near Addison as he was hit on a cornerback blitz by Trent McDuffie. Addison collided with Sneed, but the initial flag for defensive pass interference was waved off.

“I feel like I had my head back,” Sneed said.

The Vikings regained possession with 1:07 to go at their 19, but Cousins was under heavy pressure. On the final play from the Chiefs 38, he was sacked by Mike Danna.

The victory gave Mahomes at least one against every opponent in the league. The Vikings were the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/chiefs-vikings-mahomes-preview-e81e04c72cffa5a82f84226021e77bc0">only team he'd never beaten</a>&nbsp;in six years as Kansas City's starter. This was the first time he'd ever faced the team that plays in the city where his father, Pat Mahomes, pitched for the Minnesota Twins.

Chiefs: LB Nick Bolton (ankle) was sidelined for the third straight game, replaced by Drue Tranquill.

Vikings: CB Akayleb Evans (knee) limped off in the third quarter. ... QB Nick Mullens (back) was inactive, elevating rookie Jaren Hall to the backup spot for Cousins.

DENVER (AP) -&nbsp;The New York Jets celebrated Nathaniel Hackett's return to Denver by rallying past the Broncos 31-21 on Sunday behind Breece Hall's 72-yard touchdown run and Bryce Hall's 39-yard game-sealing scoop-and-score off Russell Wilson's fumble in the final minute.

That gave Hackett, the Jets' offensive coordinator who was fired after going 4-11 as Denver's head coach last season, a measure of satisfaction. Especially after new Broncos coach Sean Payton trashed him during training camp for the job he'd done in Denver, particularly the way he handled Wilson during the quarterback's dismal 2022 season

The Jets (2-3) overcame a sloppy, chippy first half to snap a three-game skid and hand the Broncos (1-4) their third home loss under Payton, who drew widespread criticism for excoriating Hackett in an interview with USA Today in July.

After the game, the&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/nyjets/status/1711162062758363474?s=20">Jets took their own swipe at Payton</a>&nbsp;in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter: “when you lose to the 'offseason champs'” — including a photo of comedian Kevin James, who portrayed Payton in a movie.

Although Wilson has returned to form under Payton's tutelage, the Broncos are plagued by many of the same problems for which Payton blasted Hackett, and in the second half, the boobirds got as loud as they ever did last year.

The Broncos went three and out on four of their first five drives after halftime and the other possession resulted in a lost fumble on the second snap.

Then, Wilson led the Broncos to a touchdown and 2-point conversion to make it 24-21 late in the fourth quarter. Patrick Surtain II’s interception of Zach Wilson’s pass to Garrett Wilson gave the Broncos the ball back at their 3 with 2:14 left and the Broncos were nearly in field goal range when Quincy Williams strip-sacked Russell Wilson.

The ball popped loose toward the Jets sideline and Bryce Hall left the receiver he was covering, scooped up the bouncing ball and sealed it with his touchdown return.

Fans streamed to the exits after that turnover and it was eerily mostly empty while Jets players hugged Hackett on the sideline.

Russell Wilson was 20 of 31 for 196 yards and two TDs.

The Jets had erased a 13-8 halftime deficit with a touchdown and three field goals to take control at 24-13 before Russell Wilson's 3-yard TD toss to tight end Adam Trautman and fullback Michael Burton's 2-point conversion run pulled the Broncos to 24-21 with 4:44 remaining.

Breece Hall's long TD run up the middle came on the Jets' second snap of the second half and put them ahead for good at 15-13.

It was nearly a year ago when Hall's promising rookie season ended at this very stadium when he blew out his left knee after scampering for a 62-yard touchdown. Coach Robert Saleh said earlier in the week Hall no longer had snap restrictions.

Hall ran for 177 yards on 22 carries Sunday, a whopping 8 yards per carry. Zach Wilson, making his fourth straight start in place of the injured Aaron Rodgers, was 19 of 26 for 199 yards and the interception.

Jets: lost their best O-lineman when RT Alijah Vera-Tucker left with a calf injury in the second half.

Broncos: lost DT D.J. Jones to a knee injury he suffered in the second quarter.

Jets: play the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Broncos: visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State women's soccer team remained unbeaten in MIAA play and moved into a three-way tie for first place with a dominant 3-0 win over Central Oklahoma Sunday afternoon at the FHSU Soccer Stadium.

The Tigers (8-1-3 overall, 4-0-1 MIAA) are now tied with Washburn and Central Missouri atop the conference standings.

The Tigers outshot the Bronchos (4-3-5 overall, 1-1-3 MIAA) 8-4 in the first half and had a 1-0 lead on the scoreboard. Reilly Madden slotted the ball into the back of the net in the 22nd minute with an assist from Gracen Cheney.&nbsp;

Hannah Mares extended the Tigers lead with a goal in the 62nd minute,&nbsp;capitalizing on an opportunity created by Montserrat Diaz and Kintzli Wagner. Skyler Forrest&nbsp;added the third goal in the 79th minute, with assists from Carley Walker and Claire Gaeth.

The Tigers outshot the Bronchos 15-8 with seven shots on goal compared to one for UCO.

The Tigers play the first of four-straight road contests Friday (Oct. 13) at Northeastern State.

⚽ Tiger women dominate Bronchos to continue conference streak

JOPLIN, Mo. - The Fort Hays State football team scored touchdowns on three of their first four possessions and rushed for almost 200 yards and beat Missouri Southern State 35-22 Saturday afternoon at Fred G. Hughes Stadium.

The Tigers improved to 4-2 overall and 3-2 in the MIAA as they won they won two-straight games for the first time in two years and pick up their sixth-straight win in Joplin. MSSU fell to 3-3 overall and 3-3 in the MIAA.

After holding the Lions to a 40-yard field goal on their first possession. the Tigers overcame a couple of penalties to take a 7-3 lead following a 33-yard touchdown pass from Jack Dawson to Shane Watts which capped a 14-play, 92 yard drive which ate up 6:45 off the first quarter clock.

FHSU pushed their lead to 21-9 when Jack Dawson scored on a 2-yard run on the first possession of the third quarter.

The Tiger defense forced a 3-and-out on the Lions next possession but the punt went off the back leg of a Tiger and was recovered by MSSU at the Tigers 29 yard line. They would score on a 15-yard touchdown run from Nathan Glades but miss the extra point to pull within 21-15.

Fort Hays State would answer with a 9-play, 67-yard drive which ended with a 1-yard Dixon run to push the lead to 28-15.

Southern came back with a&nbsp; 10-play scoring drive with 10:11 to play to pull within 28-22 but the Tigers answered again with 10-play scoring drive of their own, pushing the lead back to 13 on a 5-yard Shane Watts touchdown run.

John Johnson intercepted a Luke Sampson pass with just under two minutes to play and the Tigers would run out the clock to end the game.

The Tigers dominated time of possession, controlling the ball nearly 11 more than the Lions and ran 15 more plays and outgained them 441 to 301 yards.

The Tigers rushed for 199 yards and were led by Shane Watts who had a season-high 96 yards with one touchdown. Quarterback Jack Dawson added&nbsp;57 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Travis Dixon scored two touchdowns.

Dawson finished with 242 passing yards, completing 25-of-33 attempts. Trevor Watts&nbsp;hauled in a team-high eight passes for 57 yards. Shane Watts&nbsp;finished the game with 143 all-purpose yards between rushing and receiving.

Sam Brandt and Makel Williams&nbsp;led the FHSU defense with 10 tackles each, Johnson added eight to go with his interception.

Luke Sampson completed 20-of-34 passes for 185 yards for the Lions. Nathan Glades rushed for 60 yards, while Deontay Campbell had a team high six receptions for 52 yards. 

Zach Bergmann led the Lions on defense with 12 tackles and an interception. 

Fort Hays State returns to Hays to host Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday (Oct. 14). Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. at Lewis Field.&nbsp;&nbsp;

🏈 Tigers use big ground game to beat Lions in Joplin

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Devin Neal rushed for 154 yards on just 12 carries and Daniel Hishaw ran for another 134 yards and two touchdowns as Kansas dominated UCF 51-22 in a Big 12 Conference battle on Saturday.

On the day Kansas inducted Tony Sands, the school's second all-time leading rusher, into the ring of honor, Neal passed four players to move into ninth on the all-time list as the Jayhawks (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) rushed for 399 yards.

“Tony was in the locker room after the game,” Kansas coach Lance Leipold said. “I asked him what he thought of our offensive performance. Tony gave us a thumbs-up.”

Neal, a Lawrence native who grew up watching Kansas football, was thrilled to be included on a list that features Gayle Sayers and John Riggins at sixth and seventh, respectively.

“That's special to be part of a list like that,” he said. “It's everything that I dreamed of.

"Who doesn't want to be a part of something so special, a part of history. But it wasn't my main focus (coming in). My main focus was turning this thing around.”

UCF (3-3, 0-3 Big 12) welcomed back starting quarterback John Rhys Plumlee, who missed three games with an undisclosed leg injury. He was just 3-of-7 for 33 yards. Backup Timmy McClain was 12-of-15 for 136 yards and two scores.

“This is a really good bounce-back for us,” Leipold said. “I didn't know how we would handle it after last week (a 40-14 loss at Texas). (UCF has) a high-speed offense. You could see glimpses of how dangerous they are.”

UCF head coach Gus Malzahn was not pleased.

“That was obviously a disappointing loss,” he said. “The first half was embarrassing from an offensive standpoint. Defensively, not being able to stop the run was one of the stories of the game.”

Kansas was without its starting quarterback, Jalon Daniels, for the second straight week and third time this season. Daniels, the preseason Big 12 offensive player of the year, missed the game with a back injury. Backup Jason Bean was 8-of-12 for 91 yards.

“Jason did what we asked him to do," Leipold said. “We told Jason and our receivers that this was going to be a run-emphasis game. They needed to do their jobs and accept that, and I thought they did.”

Already up 24-0 at intermission, Neal took a handoff on the first play from scrimmage in the second half and raced 75 yards untouched for a 31-0 lead.

But Kansas is not satisfied with shutting down the Knights for a half.

“I don't think we demoralized them enough,” defensive end Austin Booker said. “They came back in the second half. I feel like we should have done our job a little longer. We need to start finishing games.”

The Knights finally reached the end zone on a four-play, 75-yard drive in the third quarter. McClain hit Alec Holler with a 13-yard touchdown pass. The 2-point conversion failed.

Kansas responded with a 75-yard drive to stretch the lead to 37-8. Dylan McDuffie punched in from the 1-yard line. The extra point attempt was botched and UCF returned it 91 yards for 2 points.

UCF cut it to 37-15 with a touchdown by RJ Harvey, but Hishaw's second touchdown gave the Jayhawks a 44-15 lead. UCF's final touchdown was a 23-yard pass from McClain to Randy Pittman.

Kansas got a 25-yard Seth Keller field goal on its first drive. Bean found Lawrence Arnold for a 5-yard touchdown pass on the third play of the second quarter to put Kansas up 10-0. Hishaw extended the lead with a 3-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter and Trevor Wilson returned a punt 82 yards for a touchdown and a 24-0 lead.

UCF: the Knights are still stinging from blowing a 35-7 lead over Baylor late in the third quarter. UCF gave up 60 unanswered points over two games: 29 straight to lose 36-35 to Baylor and 31 straight to start this game.

Kansas: the Jayhawks didn't let a tough loss at Texas last week carry over. The Jayhawks dominated from the start.

UCF: the Knights are off next weekend before traveling to play Oklahoma in Norman on Oct. 21.

⚽ Tiger men play to draw at Northeastern State

SALINA - The Hays High girls cross country team left&nbsp;Bill Burke Park as team champions Saturday at the Salina Invitational. They finished 10 points better than Salina South and 19 better than Western Athletic Conference member Dodge City.

Arely Maldonado (18:57.30) and Brynn Kinderknecht (20:32.06) paced Hays in fifth and sixth place finished respectively.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Brenlynn Albers medaled in 12th and Julia Zadina was 16th.&nbsp;

Hays PostSALINA - The Hays High girls cross country team left&nbsp;Bill Burke Park as team champions Saturday at the Salina Invitational. Fort Hays State Football returns to MIAA play on Saturday at Missouri Southern in Joplin. The Tigers and Lions both enter the contest at 3-2 overall. FHSU played its lone non-conference game of the season last week, a 71-3 win over Lincoln University on Homecoming. The Tigers enter Saturday at 2-2 in the MIAA, while all five of the Lions' contests have been in MIAA play. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Hughes Stadium.

Fort Hays State owns an 18-14-1 advantage in the all-time series between the teams, including a 10-4 mark in MIAA play that began back in 2006. The Tigers held an eight-game win streak in the series until it was snapped last year in Hays with a Missouri Southern victory by a score of 25-24. FHSU still owns a five-game win streak against MSSU in Joplin, which goes back to 2009. Missouri Southern's only win in MIAA play against FHSU in Joplin occurred during the 2007 season in a low-scoring 6-0 battle.

Fort Hays State is coming off a win over Lincoln University last week in Hays, while Missouri Southern is coming off a three-point loss at Central Oklahoma. Four of Missouri Southern's five games this year have been decided by seven points or less, with its only outlier being a 42-0 win over Northeastern State. FHSU also shutout Northeastern State to open the season by a score of 56-0.

Both teams have shown strong defense this season. FHSU leads the MIAA in scoring defense, allowing just 15.4 points per game. The Lions are also holding opponents to less than 20 per game at 19.4 points per game. DODGE CITY - Hays High scored touchdowns on two of their first three plays of the game and cruised to a 40-20 victory over Dodge City Friday night at Memorial Stadium. It was the Indians fourth straight win over the Red Demons.

During the game, Malik Bah became the school record holder for career rushing yards.

The Indian defense opened the game forcing a three and out. Malik Bah returned from an injury earlier in the season and took his first carry 42 yards to pay dirt and a 7-0 lead.

Hays again forced a punt after three plays. Two plays later Carter Graham found Johnny Cano striding down the right hash for a 49 yard touchdown and a 14-0 advantage.

The two teams traded punches for the rest of the half. Hays moved deep into the red zone leading by two scores but missed a field goal to end the drive. The Indians were penalized three times on the series.

Johnny Rigler stifled a second quarter Dodge City drive with his second interception of the season and returned the ball to the six. Bah scampered into the end zone just inside the front left pylon for a 20-0 lead.&nbsp;

Dodge City took the ensuing drive 13 plays over 79 yards to score for the first time. The Red Demons ran a reverse pass that turned into a 22 yard run on third down. Dodge City was four for five on third downs during the drive and one for one on fourth down. The extra point missed leaving the score at 20-6, the same score the teams reached halftime at.

The Indians opened the second half just like they did the first half by scoring on their first offensive play. This time Malik Bah ran the ball for 67 yards and six points. During his sprint to the end zone Bah became the career rushing record holder passing David Cardinal. Bah ended the game with 175 yards rushing and now has 2,887 career yards. Cardinal held the record at 2,811 yards. Bah passed Alex Delton earlier in the season. Delton had 2,692 yards.

Johnny Rigler recovered the ensuing kick-off that was not caught by Dodge City. Bah capped a short 37 yard drive with a one yard run for his fourth and final touchdown of the night and a 40-6 advantage.

Following a turnover on downs Hays marched the field on eight plays over 68 yards capped by a one yard Ian McGuire run.

Hays turned the game over to the depth chart for the final ninety seconds of the third quarter and entire fourth quarter. Dodge City managed two touchdown drives for the final of 40-20 in favor of Hays High.

The Indians improve to 4-2 on the year and 2-1 in the WAC. Dodge City is 2-4, 0-3. Hays travels to undefeated Liberal for a key conference game in one week.

🏈 Hays wins big in Dodge City; Bah sets school record

HAYS – The TMP-Marian defense turned in its second shutout
of the season and the offense exploded for 22 second half points as the Monarchs eearn their first win over Phillipsburg in more than 20 years Friday night, 22-0 at Lewis
Field in Hays.

The Monarchs (4-2, 4-1 MCL, 1-1 2A-District 8) offense
opened the game with the football and proceeded to put together a 17-play drive
that took 11 minutes and 17 seconds off the clock before stalling at the Phillipsburg
17-yard line. 

Phillipsburg (2-4, 2-3 MCL, 0-3 2A-District 8) also strung
together a long drive only to turn it over on downs at their own 49 yard line.

TMP had a second shot on offense in the second quarter only
to see their 11-play drive stall on turn over on downs after getting all the way
to the Phillipsburg one-yard line.

Phillipsburg was unable to do anything with the ball and the
first half ended in a 0-0 tie.

The two offenses were still unable to find the endzone until
the final two minutes of the third quarter when Griffin Schumacher, who
returned from injury this week, scored on a 25-yard run on third and 13 with one minute
and 32 seconds to play in the third quarter. He also added the two-point conversion
putting TMP up 8-0. 

Phillipsburg’s first of three fumbles of the game set up the
touchdown that ended a stretch of 10 straight quarters without an offensive
touchdown for TMP.

Early in the fourth quarter TMP’s defense forced
Phillipsburg into a turnover on downs at midfield when Colton Hagans, who also
returned from injury Friday, sacked the quarterback.

The Monarchs first of two fourth quarter touchdowns came
with just under seven minutes to play on a three yard run for Schumacher who
added the two-point conversion for a 16-0 TMP lead.

The Monarchs added a third touchdown, second of the fourth
quarter, with just four and a half minutes left in the game when Schumacher broke
free for a 25-yard touchdown run after yet another Phillipsburg fumble.

The two-point conversion failed but TMP held a 22-0 lead and
that would be the final score as the Monarchs end a 12-game losing streak
against Phillipsburg.

Unofficially TMP outgained Phillipsburg 275 yards to 138.

Schumacher led the Monarchs with 146 yards and three
touchdowns. Max Gerstner finished with a season-high 72 yards on 16 carriers.

TMP will host Norton next Friday night in another 2A district
eight games.

first half ended in a 0-0 tie.The two offenses were still unable to find the endzone until
the final two minutes of the third quarter when Griffin Schumacher, who
returned from injury this week, scored on a 25-yard run on third and 13 with one minute
and 32 seconds to play in the third quarter. He also added the two-point conversion

touchdown that ended a stretch of 10 straight quarters without an offensive

🏈 Monarchs get back in win column against Phillipsburg

HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State volleyball team dropped a three-set match against Northwest Missouri State on Friday (Oct. 6), 25-15, 25-18, 25-18. The Tigers are now 7-10 overall and 1-7 in conference play, while the Bearcats move to 9-6 on the year and 4-3 in MIAA action.

The Bearcats jumped out in front to start, scoring the first six points. Kills from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/claire-olson/7499">Claire Olson</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-volleyball/roster/riley-tinder/7504">Riley Tinder</a>&nbsp;helped the Tigers close within four, 8-4, before the visitors regained control en route to a 25-15 first-set win.

After totaling eight kills in the first set, the Tigers upped that total to 12 in the second frame, just two short of NWMSU's 14 second-set kills. The Bearcats managed to pick up the win, however, due to five NWMSU blocks in the frame. FHSU trailed by midway through the frame, 16-14, before a 9-4 run gave the green and white a 25-18 victory.

Another Olson kill helped FHSU pull within 16-14 again in the third set, but another big Bearcat run helped NWMSU complete the sweep.

Jordan Webster for Newman also record five saves in the first period. Diaz's fourth goal of the year came with 27:06 left on the clock and was assisted by&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/alex-hutton/7287">Alex Hutton</a>. EMPORIA, Kan. - The Fort Hays State cross country teams had another good showing Friday (Oct. 6) at the Hornet Harrier Invitational, with the women placing first and the men finishing in a tie for first but placing second due to tiebreaking procedures.

The Tiger women placed five runners in the top eight, three of which were inside the top five. FHSU won the team competition with a miniscule 23 points, 60 points better than second place.

The Tiger men also had three of the top five placers and four of the top seven, with FHSU and Emporia State both compiling 29 points. Emporia State took the tiebreak 3-2, which pits the top Hornet finisher against the top Tiger finisher, the second ESU placer against the second FHSU finisher, etc.
