HAYS, Kan. - The Fort Hays State baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader against Upper Iowa Wednesday afternoon, winning 11-1 in the opener before rallying for a 6-5 win in game two. The Tigers improve to 14-6 on the season, their best record through 20 games since 2010, while the Peacocks are now 3-5 on the year.

Game 1 - Fort Hays State 11, Upper Iowa 1 The Tigers scored early and often in the opener thanks to errant Peacock pitching. Fort Hays State worked 17 walks in the contest, the most by the Tigers in a game since at least 2009. Another Tiger batter was issued a free base after being hit by a pitch. UIU pitchers threw eight wild pitches in the loss.

The Tigers scored four runs in the first inning, two in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Fort Hays State only needed four hits to secure the win, including two from Brady Kreutzer&nbsp;and one each from Cesar Saavedra&nbsp;and Trey DeGarmo.

Jose Cintron&nbsp;worked four walks in the contest, the most by a Tiger since 2016 (Joe Mapes). Saavedra drew three walks while DeGarmo, Shaun Gomez and Isaiah Ural&nbsp;worked two walks each. Elliott Herrmann&nbsp;drove in three runs, including two sacrifice flies, while four Tigers scored a pair of runs - Kreutzer, Saavedra, Cintron and Gomez.

Andrew Hansen&nbsp;(1-1) picked up the win after tossing 5.0 innings, striking out five batters while allowing one unearned run on four hits and one walk. Spencer Maley and Brett Jacobs&nbsp;both worked scoreless innings of relief, with Maley striking out the side in the sixth.

Game 2 - Fort Hays State 6, Upper Iowa 5 After the Tigers sent 10 men to the plate in the first inning of game one, the Peacocks returned the favor in game two. UIU scored all five of its runs in the top of the first on four hits, two walks and one hit-by-pitch. Tanner Vaughn came on to record the final out, inducing a fly ball to prevent any further damage.

Fort Hays State was unable to answer in the bottom of the first, leaving the bases loaded before stranding another baserunner in the second. Vaughn worked a 1-2-3 inning in the second before Cade Flaherty&nbsp;came on to toss a spotless third inning, including two strikeouts.

The Tigers broke through in the bottom of the third when Elliott Herrmann&nbsp;lifted an opposite-field home run to right field with two men on base, helping FHSU close within 5-3 with his three-run home run.

Upper Iowa loaded the bases in the fourth before Dylan Rinker&nbsp;came on to get out of the jam with a strikeout and a groundout. Fort Hays State closed within one run in the bottom of the inning when Jamison Armstrong&nbsp;led off with a single through the right side. The shortstop then stole second and third before coming in to score on a ground ball from Kyle Morrell.

Rinker retired the side in order in the top of the fifth before FHSU took its first lead of the game in the home half of the inning. Herrmann led off with a single off the wall in left before Jose Cintron&nbsp;worked a walk. The pair came around to score on a two-RBI double from Isaiah Ural,&nbsp;giving FHSU a 6-5 lead.

Shaun Gomez&nbsp;came on to pitch the sixth, walking one batter and striking out one in a scoreless inning before Ty Riley&nbsp;entered the game to finish things off in the seventh. The Peacocks managed a one-out double before Riley recorded his second strikeout to put the Tigers one out away from a sweep.

After Upper Iowa pinch ran at second, Bryce Hall delivered with a pinch-hit single to left. The runner at second was waved around third, with Brady Kreutzer&nbsp;delivering a strong throw to the plate. Justin Lipka&nbsp;secured the ball just inside the foul line and applied the tag just as the UIU baserunner was sliding in, holding on to the ball to secure the win.

Rinker (3-1) earned the win after retiring all five batters he faced. Riley picked up his third save after striking out a pair in the seventh. The Tigers used seven pitchers in the win. Herrmann was 2-for-2 in game two with three RBI and two runs scored.

Fort Hays State will return to conference play this weekend when the Tigers host Northeastern State in a three-game series at Larks Park. Due to the weather forecast Friday, the series will begin Saturday (March 9) with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. before wrapping up on Sunday (March 10) with a noon first pitch.&nbsp;&nbsp;

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Fort Hays State senior Morgan Brasser&nbsp;was named the latest MIAA Women's Golfer of the Week, announced Wednesday by the league office.

Brasser tied for the best finish amongst MIAA competitors at the Diffee Ford Lincoln Invitational this week, turning in rounds of 72 and 76 to finish the week at 8-over 148, tied for fifth place overall. The senior carded six birdies across the 36-hole tournament, second-most in the field. Brasser shared the MIAA Athlete of the Week honor with Emma Shelley, whom she tied for fifth in the event.

This is Brasser's fifth-career weekly honor from the MIAA. The finish was her fourth top-five finish of the season and the 14th of her career. Her season average now sits at 74.25, which would be the best single-season stroke average in program history.&nbsp;&nbsp;

HAYS, Kan. – Fort Hays State Tennis is now 4-2 on the season after a 5-2 loss to Minnesota State in Hays on Wednesday. The Tigers took one of the three doubles matches contested and picked up both of their team points in singles in matches that went to the final tiebreaking set. Tight results in another pair of singles matches showed the Tigers were close to flipping the match in their favor.

The No. 2 doubles team of Irina Alfonso and Ines Latorre&nbsp;won their match 6-4 over Carnelutti and Minisy of MSU, but the Mavericks were too strong in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. The Tigers' No. 1 team of Fiorella Mendez and Yone Pereiro&nbsp;fell 6-0, and the No. 3 team of Grace Unruh and Bethan Gill&nbsp;fell 6-1.

With one team point already in hand, Minnesota State only needed to take half of the six singles matches contested. But it would not be easy for them as the Tiger lineup put up a valiant fight. Alfonso (No. 1) and Pereiro (No. 3) both won their matches in thrilling decisive tiebreaker sets to claim both team points for the Tigers. After falling in the first set 7-6 (8-6), Alfonso rallied to win the second set 6-4 and then ran away with a 10-3 win in the tiebreaking set over Chiara Carnelutti. Pereiro cruised to a 6-1 first-set win, but came up short in the second set 7-5. She went on to outlast Daria Podmogilnaia in an epic 18-16 result in the tiebreaking set to give the Tigers a second win.

The Tigers were not that far away from flipping the script on the Mavericks in singles play. At No. 6, Minnesota State's McKenna DeMarce had to win by the tiebreaker set over Mendez of FHSU. Mendez took the first set 6-4, but fell 7-5 in the second and then 10-6 in the tiebreaker. Bethan Gill&nbsp;was only two points shy in each set of her match at No. 5 with Elizabeth Felderman, falling 6-4, 6-4.

Latorre generated four points within her No. 2 singles match and Unruh generated five points within her No. 3 singles match. Three exhibition matches were also played. Heidi Lubbers and Hope Lubbers&nbsp;lost a tight doubles contest 6-4. Hope also played a singles exhibition and fell 8-6. Ines Steeman&nbsp;fell 8-3 in her singles exhibition.

Fort Hays State heads to Colorado this weekend for a pair of matches with Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schools. The Tigers face CSU-Pueblo on Saturday (March 9) at 3 p.m. (2 p.m. MT) and MSU Denver on Sunday (March 10) at 12 p.m. (11 a.m. MT).

🎾 Tigers fight hard in loss to Mavericks

HAYS - Three players from this past fall's Hays High football team have signed to play collegiate football. Kaiden Bunger joins Will Linenberger and Malik Bah has college signees. Bunger signed a National Letter of Intent to play at Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS.

The stories from coaches were mostly fun and light hearted about a kid who kept things light on the team. Coach Tony Crough then went on to note there is nothing light about his senior offensive lineman's work ethic and style of play.

"Everyone has always counted me out. Everyone always said 'I'm too small to do anything.' Having that behind you...that I'm going to flip this switch and show all these people that I'm for real" Bunger said. That was the motivation he needed to go out and play an aggressive style of football.

When it came to choosing Bethany over other programs it was all in the feel. "They have that home feel. They are a tight community."

He also likes the new position he will be playing. Bunger will play in a fullback/block tight end roll. With a laugh he says he has already asked for the ball.&nbsp;

Crough hopes the younger guys in the program can use Bunger as an example of how far hard work can really take a player.

Bunger was the right guard for a team this last fall that&nbsp; rushed for 2,051 yards over ten games during a 7-3 season.&nbsp;A four year member of the football team, Bunger saw four Western Athletic Conference titles.

He was also a starter during a junior season when the Indians rushed for 3,493 yards on a 10-2 season. A year that saw Hays High set the school record for single season wins and make the sub-state championship game.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas rarely loses at Allen Fieldhouse, and even rarer do the Jayhawks lose there to Kansas State.

On senior night? The Wildcats hardly seemed to have a chance.

Kevin McCullar Jr. had 19 points in his farewell to the Phog, fellow senior Hunter Dickinson added 15 points with 20 rebounds, and No. 14 Kansas snapped a modest two-game skid with a 90-68 blowout of Kansas State on Tuesday night.

Nick Timberlake added 18 points and KJ Adams Jr. had 16 for the Jayhawks (22-8, 10-7 Big 12), who beat the Wildcats at home for the 18th straight time and won their 40th in a row on senior night, a run that stretches back to the 1983-84 season.

Kansas also avenged an overtime loss to Kansas State (17-13, 7-10) earlier this season.

“I saw how excited they were after they beat us,” Dickinson said, “and I think that kind of stuck with us, kind of how excited they were. Usually people are excited to beat us, but especially them. I felt a little motivated coming into tonight.”

Will McNair had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Wildcats, but leading scorers Tylor Perry and Cam Carter were shut down. Perry had two points after scoring 26 against the Jayhawks in February, and Carter had three points on 1-of-7 shooting.

“They kicked our butts. We didn't deserve to win,” Kansas State coach Jerome Tang said. “Didn't give an effort that deserved to win. Disappointed in that because the staff did an unbelievable job putting together a plan that would give us a chance.”

Two schools separated by about 80 miles of highway, and who have played 300 times since 1907, naturally harbor a little bit of animosity toward each other. And that was on display during a first half in which a couple of players nearly came to blows.

It also was evident after the game, when Jayhawks coach Bill Self said Tang did a “fly by” in the handshake line.

“I will say, when we got our ass kicked there, we shook everybody's hand," Self said, "so I guess it was different here today.”

The Wildcats were just 10 of 21 from the foul line for the game. Throw in some sloppiness on offense — hardly new for a team that is 339th in Division I in turnovers per game — and they were fortunate to trail 41-33 at halftime.

Kansas quickly stretched the lead to double digits in the second half. And after making one 3-pointer over the first 25 minutes, McCullar and fellow senior Timberlake hit them in quick succession, stretching the lead to 53-38 with 13:30 to go.

The Jayhawks eventually pushed the lead to 28 before the senior night celebration began in earnest.

“I think we felt a little motivated coming into tonight, knowing it was senior night, and wanting to send the seniors out on a good note,” Dickinson said. “I think this is a really good stepping stone for us."

Kansas State's NCAA tourney hopes are in peril after a last-second loss to Cincinnati and a lopsided loss to Kansas. The Wildcats desperately need to beat No. 6 Iowa State on Saturday before winning a couple of games in the Big 12 Tournament.

“It's about being competitive. Nobody is going to sprinkle fairy dust on us,” Perry said. “We have to look ourselves in the mirror. Our back is pressed against the wall. It starts with winning on Saturday and having some momentum going into next week.”

Kansas could give its own NCAA Tournament seeding a big boost by beating top-ranked Houston on Saturday.

🏀 McCullar scores 19 as Kansas routs K-State

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State moved up three spots in the latest NABC Top 25 Poll, released on Tuesday. The Tigers are No. 16 in the latest set of rankings. This is the sixth-straight week the Tigers have been in the NABC Top 25.

Fort Hays State reached 22 wins in the regular season for the second time in the last three years as it enters tournament play at 22-6 overall. It is the seventh time the Tigers have reached 22 wins in a season under head coach Mark Johnson&nbsp;after already reaching at least 20 for the 12th&nbsp;time in his tenure as head coach. The win in the regular season finale pushed Johnson to 450 career wins at FHSU as his total as the all-time wins leader at FHSU continues to climb.

This is the 114th&nbsp;time the Tigers have been ranked in the NABC Top 25 during their NCAA Division II history. They are 188-48 all-time when holding an NABC ranking.

Fort Hays State and Northwest Missouri State (No. 4) represents the MIAA in both top 25 polls. The Bearcats moved up four spots in both the NABC and D2CSC polls this week.

The Central Region and South Central Region have the most teams in the NABC Top 25, each with five. Seven of the top ten teams in the country are among the two regions. Central Region teams ranked include Minnesota State (No. 2), Northwest Missouri State (No. 4), Minnesota Duluth (No. 9), MSU Moorhead (No. 11), and Fort Hays State (No. 16).Fort Hays State plays in the quarterfinals of the MIAA Tournament on Thursday night (March 7) against either Emporia State or Lincoln.

🏀 Tiger men up to No. 16 in latest Division II poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The trio of Kaleb Hammeke, Elijah Nnanabu and Bjarni Jonsson&nbsp;earned All-MIAA honors for a second straight year as a group, announced Tuesday. Jonsson is the first three-time MIAA All-Defensive Team selection in program history and is the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year, while Hammeke is now a four-time All-MIAA selection and Nnanabu is a two-time All-MIAA selection.

Hammeke headlines the three Tigers on the 2023-24 All-MIAA Team by earning first-team honors for the second-straight year. Nnanabu elevated to a second-team selection this year after an honorable mention pick last year. Jonsson continued his presence as one of the elite defenders in the conference for the third straight year and pocketed a second-straight honorable mention pick in the process.

Not only is Jonsson the first three-time MIAA All-Defensive Team selection in program history, he is also the first three-time All-Defensive Team selection of any sort in the program's history. Jonsson becomes the third MIAA Defensive Player of the Year in FHSU men's basketball history, the first to earn the honor since Matt Simmons in 2011-12. Dijon Smith also earned the honor the year prior in 2010-11. He is the fourth Defensive Player of the Year in Mark Johnson's coaching tenure as Jeremy Atwater earned the honor in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in 2005-06. Jonsson spearheads a gritty defensive-oriented Tiger squad, instrumental in helping Fort Hays State own the nation's best scoring defense during the regular season, allowing just 57.4 points per game.

Hammeke is now just the sixth four-time All-MIAA selection in Fort Hays State men's basketball history, joining Richard Staab (1933-37), Elmer Johnson (1936-40), Dean Larson (1958-62), Raymond Lee (1982-86), and Craig Nicholson (2012-16). Hammeke joins Lee and Nicholson as a special group of Tigers to win a conference Freshman of the Year award and be a four-time all-conference selection. Hammeke was the MIAA Freshman of the Year in 2020-21 while earning an honorable mention selection to the All-MIAA team that season. He has since earned second-team honors in 2021-22, and now first-team honors in both 2022-23 and 2023-24. Hammeke continues to ascend the Tiger record books, now with 1,522 points (6th&nbsp;most in program history) and 432 assists (4th&nbsp;most in program history). The Hutchinson, Kan. native leads the Tigers this season at 13.8 points and 4.3 assists per game, while adding 5.1 rebounds per contest.

Nnanabu earned his second All-MIAA selection, this time as a second-team pick by MIAA coaches. Nnanabu finished the regular season with a 12.8 points per game average and led the team in rebounds at 5.4 per game. He has the most field goals made among his team with 137 entering tournament play. He added 2.0 assists per contest as well.

Jonsson is now a two-time All-MIAA Honorable Mention pick after earning the same honor as season ago. To go with his elite defensive status, Jonsson gives the Tigers a strong all-around presence averaging 7.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, while making 37 3-point field goals for the season.

Jonsson is the first three-time MIAA All-Defensive Team selection in program history and is the MIAA Defensive Player of the Year, while Hammeke is now a four-time All-MIAA selection and Nnanabu is a two-time All-MIAA selection.Hammeke headlines the three Tigers on the 2023-24 All-MIAA Team by earning first-team honors for the second-straight year. Nnanabu elevated to a second-team selection this year after an honorable mention pick last year. Jonsson continued his presence as one of the elite defenders in the conference for the third straight year and pocketed a second-straight honorable mention pick in the process.Not only is Jonsson the first three-time MIAA All-Defensive Team selection in program history, he is also the first three-time All-Defensive Team selection of any sort in the program's history. Jonsson becomes the third MIAA Defensive Player of the Year in FHSU men's basketball history, the first to earn the honor since Matt Simmons in 2011-12. Dijon Smith also earned the honor the year prior in 2010-11. He is the fourth Defensive Player of the Year in Mark Johnson's coaching tenure as Jeremy Atwater earned the honor in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in 2005-06. Jonsson spearheads a gritty defensive-oriented Tiger squad, instrumental in helping Fort Hays State own the nation's best scoring defense during the regular season, allowing just 57.4 points per game.Hammeke is now just the sixth four-time All-MIAA selection in Fort Hays State men's basketball history, joining Richard Staab (1933-37), Elmer Johnson (1936-40), Dean Larson (1958-62), Raymond Lee (1982-86), and Craig Nicholson (2012-16). 🏀 Trio of Tigers named All-MIAA, Jonsson Defensive Player of the Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Katie Wagner&nbsp;has been named the 2023-24 MIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Year, announced Tuesday by the league office. The Maize, Kan. native also earned a spot on the MIAA All-Defensive Team in addition to first team all-conference honors, while Olivia Hollenbgeck received third team All-MIAA recognition for a second year in a row.

Wagner has been a consistent force all season long, ranking third in the MIAA in scoring with 16.9 points per game, fifth in rebounding with 8.3 rebounds per game and second in steals with 2.3 steals per game. She is the only player in the conference to rank in the top five in three primary statistical categories (points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks).The fourth-year junior turned things up a notch in conference play, ranking second in the league with 17.0 points against MIAA opponents, third with 8.6 rebounds when playing conference rivals and second with 2.4 steals in league games.

Wagner scored in double figures 25 times in 28 games, including nine games with at least 20 points. She was one of two players in the conference to score at least 30 points multiple times this season. Wagner tallied 10 double-doubles and distributed three or more assists 16 times.

Wagner is the third Tiger to earn the conference's top honor, joining Kate Lehman (2014-15) and Tatyana Legette (2018-19). She is the 11th Tiger to earn first team All-MIAA honors and just the third to do so multiple times (Kate Lehman 2013, 2014, 2015; Jaden Hobbs 2021, 2022). Additionally, Wagner is the 10th Tiger to be listed on the MIAA All-Defensive team.

This is Wagner's third appearance on the All-MIAA postseason honors list. She was also a first team selection last year after receiving second team accolades in 2021-22.Hollenbeck picked up All-MIAA honors for the fourth time in her career, becoming just the fourth player in program history to earn all-conference honors in four-consecutive seasons (Annette Wiles, Shauna Porter, Kate Lehman). 🏀 FHSU's Wagner named MIAA Player of the Year, Hollenbeck third team

NEW ORLEANS - The Fort Hays State men's track and field team ranks 18th in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division II rating index, released Tuesday by the coaches association.

Men's Track &amp; Field currently have broken four school records this season while notching 32 provisional marks. The Tiger men have seven student-athletes that have qualified for nationals, including Hayden Albright. Albright qualified individually in the 400m dash thanks to his school-record time of 47.47, tenth-best in Division II this year. Ethan Lang&nbsp;has two All-American honors in his career as he looks to improve on his historic senior season. Lang emerged as a standout performer in the men's 600y event at the MIAA Championships, capturing his third conference championship in the 600y. Lang is also tied for the sixth best 800m time in the county, clocking in at 1:49.40, fast enough for a school record in the 800m. Both Albright and Lang will compete in the distance medley relay (DMR) team along with Trevor Medina and Grant Bradley at the NCAA Championships. Fort Hays State's DMR time of 9:43.55 ranks seventh in Division II and broke another school record on the season.

Jacob Clark&nbsp;returns to the national meet in the pole vault thanks to a top clearance of 16-8.75 this season, 11th best nationally. Clark earned All-American honors indoors two years in a row as he looks to add another All-American under his belt. Dayton Williams&nbsp;will compete in the high jump as he was tied for the 16th best jump in Division II this season. He achieved a jump of 6-11.5 earlier this season and ranks second in program history with this mark. Nolan Churchman, two time indoor All-American, will compete in the heptathlon. The junior ranks eighth in the country this season with a top point total of 5,326.

Keamonie Archie, who currently holds the second-best long jump in school history with a distance at 23-11.75 feet. Archie has only competed in two events as a freshman and looks to continue to improve the FHSU men's field team. Another young Tiger that improved the team is Avrey Albright who has been included in relay teams and sprints the whole season and has improved the sprints team as a freshman. Dean Clark, a freshman jumper, won the long jump at the UNK Pre-Holiday Classic earlier this season with a distance of 23-3.5. Emery Wolfe, another freshman, was a top five finisher in two events at the KSU Steve Miller Invitational that included Division I athletes.

The Tiger men currently rank sixth in the central region as the team had a successful weekend at the MIAA Championships a couple weekends ago. The men placed fourth, notching eight provisionals as well as 3 All-MIAA honors.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Senior Tylor Perry&nbsp;was selected as the Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday afternoon (March 4) after averaging 27.5 points per game against West Virginia and Cincinnati last week.

Perry averaged 27.5 points on 63.6 percent shooting (14-of-22), including 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from 3-point range, and 93.8 percent (15-of-16) from the free throw line in helping K-State to a 94-90 overtime win over West Virginia at home Feb. 26 and a narrow 74-72 loss at Cincinnati March 2. He also averaged 4.5 assists and 4 rebounds in 40 minutes per game in the 2 contests. It marked Perry's team-leading ninth and 10th&nbsp;20-point games of the season, as he has scored 20 or more points in 5 of the last 9 games.

Perry scored his 54 total points on just 22 field goal attempts, tying his season-high for third and fourth time this season with 6 made 3-pointers in each contest.

The senior guard scored a season-high 29 points in the Wildcats' Division I-record seventh overtime win of the season on just 12 shots, finishing 7-of-12 from the field, including 6-of-11 from 3-point range, to go with a 9-of-10 effort from the free throw line. He also added a game-high tying 6 assists and 4 rebounds in nearly 42 minutes.

Perry continued his strong week with 26 points in a narrow loss at Cincinnati, connecting on 7-of-10 field goals, including 6-of-8 from 3-point range, and 6-of-6 free throws to go along with 3 assists and 4 rebounds in 38 minutes. He scored 11 of his 26 points in a pivotal 18-4 run that nearly helped the Wildcats overcome a double-digit second-half deficit. &nbsp;&nbsp;The weekly award is the first of the season for Perry and the first of his career. He is the second Wildcat to earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors after junior Arthur Kaluma&nbsp;was selected for the honor on Dec. 11, 2023.A 5-foot-11, 180-pound guard from Fort Coffee, Okla., Perry is currently averaging a team-best 16 points on 37.1 percent (121-of-326) shooting, including 34.2 percent (83-of-243) from 3-point range, to go with a team-best 4.6 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 36.9 minutes per game. He entered Saturday's game ranked fifth in rebounding in the NAIA with an 11.3 average. He's also averages 17.3 points while Murdock averages 18.0 points and 4.9 assists.</li><li>Murdock scored 16 and had Littlejohn 15 and 10 rebounds in the first game against OKWU.&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/85253bfd-8934-43eb-8f83-f57aef7a242f?elinkdata=6647" target="_blank">Izaiah Hale</a>&nbsp;score 14 but the Coyotes shot just 34.4 percent and were outrebounded 49-39.</li><li>KWU has won six in a row and eight of nine including tournament victories over Ottawa in the quarterfinals and Southwestern.</li><li>Monday's championship will be the first for Wesleyan since the tournament moved to Hartman Arena. They also average just over 14 offensive rebounds.</li><li>Lietzke had 23 points and 16 rebounds in the victory over KWU in January. He averages 17 points and eight rebounds while point guard DJ Talton Jr. averages 14.7 points and 5.3 assists and Stokes 10.1 points and 6.7 rebounds.</li><li>The Eagles' two losses this season were to Southwestern on December 2 in Bartlesville and Evangel on February 24 in Springfield, Mo.</li><li>OKWU averages 78 points and allows 64.5. The Eagles are shooting 46 percent overall, 29.6 percent from beyond the 3-point line. They struggle collectively at the free throw line, just 58.6 percent.</li>

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Fort Hays State baseball team dropped Sunday's series finale at Rogers State, losing 11-4. The Tigers (12-6, 2-4 MIAA) jumped out to a quick lead, but the Hillcats (13-4, 5-1 MIAA) answered right back in the bottom of the first before taking the lead for good in the second.

Brady Kreutzer&nbsp;led things off with a triple to the warning track in left field before coming in to score the first run of the game on an RBI groundout from Elliott Herrmann. The Hillcats responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on two hits and three free bases.

Fort Hays State tied things up in the next half inning when Zane Knox&nbsp;was hit by a pitch to lead things off. Singles from Justin Lipka&nbsp;and Sebastian Burgos&nbsp;loaded the bases before Cesas Saavedra&nbsp;drew a two-out walk to tie the score at two. The Hillcats again scored two runs in the bottom of the second, retaking the lead, 4-2.

Rogers State pushed the lead to 8-2 in the bottom of the third after scoring four runs on two singles and two free bases. Trailing by six, the Tigers left a pair on base in the fourth before plating a pair in the top of the fifth. Trey DeGarmo&nbsp;led off with a bunt single before Herrmann beat out an infield single to short. Jose Cintron&nbsp;followed by drawing a walk, loading the bases with no outs. Shaun Gomez&nbsp;plated a run two batters later with a single before Kyle Morrell&nbsp;lifted a sacrifice fly to left, helping FHSU close within 8-4.

The Tiger pitchers settled in after the third inning, recording four-straight scoreless innings before the Hillcats tacked on three more in the bottom of the eighth. The Tiger bats were unable to draw any closer, however, going down in order in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings before leaving a runner on in the ninth.

Burgos finished the day 2-for-4, while six other Tigers recorded one base hit on the day. Rafael Espinoza&nbsp;(2-1) got the start and went 2.0 innings, allowing four runs on four hits. Trevor Baugh&nbsp;struck out four batters in 5.0 innings of relief, surrendering two runs on four hits and one walk.

Fort Hays State will return home for to play five home games next week beginning Wednesday with a doubleheader against Upper Iowa beginning at 1 p.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;

OAKLEY – The TMP-Marian Monarchs could not overcome a slow
start offensively and an even faster start by the Plainville Cardinals as they come
up short, falling 60-50 Saturday in the 2A Oakley sub-state title game.

After a pair of early ties, the Plainville Cardinals closed
the first quarter on a 10-4 lead, for a 14-8 lead.

Plainville scored back-to-back field goals to start the
second quarter, extending the run to 14-4 for an 18-8 lead.

The Cardinals were able to maintain a 10-point for a good portion
of the second quarter. TMP was able to close with five when Jacob Seib finished
off a three-point play, making it 24-19 with a minute and a half left in the
first half.

But Plainville close the first half with a 27-19 lead.

After a three pointer for Plainville gave the Cardinals a
30-19 lead TMP’s Griffin Schumacher scored eight straight pulling the Monarchs
back within five a 32-27, but Plainville answered with a 14-5 run for a 46-32
lead heading into the final period.

In the fourth quarter TMP closed the gap to nine, at 46-37
on a Caden Dinkel three-pointer but they could never get closer as the
Cardinals went on to a 60-50 victory.

Griffin Schumacher led the Monarchs with a season-high 15 points.

Plainville qualifies for the 2A state tournament in Dodge City with a record of 16-7.

🏀 Monarchs end season in sub-state title game against Plainville

PUEBLO, Colo. - Fort Hays State men's wrestling junior Tereus Henry&nbsp;defended his Super Region VI championship Saturday, finishing 4-0 for a second year in a row to claim the title at 197 pounds.

With the regional championship, Henry locked in his third-consecutive trip to the NCAA DII Championships, held this year in Wichita, Kan. at Hartman Arena March 15-16.

Fort Hays State placed ninth as a team at regionals, compiling 23.5 team points.

Despite being seeded second in the 197-pound bracket, Henry was one of just four wrestlers in the 10-man bracket that drew a first-round match. The El Paso, Texas native took care of business against Adams State's Ben Tonnessen, recording takedowns in each the first and second period to secure an 8-3 decision.

Facing off with a fresh Laith Gilmore of San Francisco State, Henry dominated his way to the semifinals with an 8-0 major decision. After a scoreless first period, Henry recorded a quick escape and later managed a takedown in the second period before recording another takedown midway through the third period.

Henry used a narrow 2-1 decision against Colorado Mesa's Gabe Carranza to reach the finals and secure a trip to Wichita. Neither side scored in the first period before Henry opened the second period on top. He maintained control for 100 seconds to start the frame, racking up 1:40 of riding time. Henry then managed a quick escape in the third period and avoided any stress the rest of the way to lock up the win via the riding time point.

Henry then faced off with Nebraska-Kearney's Jackson Kinsella in the first-place bout. After Henry finished last season 3-0 against Kinsella, the Loper got the best of Henry in both of their meetings this season. Neither competitor managed a takedown in regulation, with both recording quick escapes in the second and third periods to leave the score tied at one after seven minutes. Henry came out on top in the first sudden victory period, recording a takedown 51 seconds into the extra period to secure the win.

Kevin Honus and Tony Caldwell&nbsp;were the lone Tigers to pick up wins via pin on the day, with each doing so in their first consolation bout. Marcell Dely&nbsp;racked up a 13-5 major decision in his first bout on the backside, while Juan Urbina&nbsp;also picked up a win in his first consolation bout with a 15-8 decision. The El Paso, Texas native took care of business against Adams State's Ben Tonnessen, recording takedowns in each the first and second period to secure an 8-3 decision.Facing off with a fresh Laith Gilmore of San Francisco State, Henry dominated his way to the semifinals with an 8-0 major decision. After a scoreless first period, Henry recorded a quick escape and later managed a takedown in the second period before recording another takedown midway through the third period.Henry used a narrow 2-1 decision against Colorado Mesa's Gabe Carranza to reach the finals and secure a trip to Wichita. CINCINNATI (AP) — John Newman III scored 13 of his 18 in the second half, Simas Lukosius hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 10.6 seconds left and Cincinnati blew a 13-point lead before beating Kansas State 74-72 Saturday night to snap a three-game skid.

Lukosius finished with 13 points. Day Day Thomas added 14 points, five assists and four steals and Jizzle James scored 10 for Cincinnati (17-12, 6-10 Big 12).

Jamille Reynolds converted a three-point play to give Cincinnati a 67-54 lead — matching the largest of the game — with 6:51 remaining. Tylor Perry answered with a 3-pointer 11 seconds later and added two free throws before he hit another 3 to cap a 10-0 run a little more than 2 minutes later. Carter was fouled on a 3-point shot and hit all three free throws to pull the Wildcats within two with 3:03 remaining and neither team scored again until Perry hit a straight-away 3 late in the shot clock that made it 72-71 with 1:16 left — Kansas State’s first lead since 8-5.

Neither team scored again until Lukosius came around a screen, caught a pass from James at hit the winner. Perry lost the ball out of bounds under the basket with 2.7 seconds to go and Newman was fouled with 1.7 left but missed the front end of a 1-and-1. Will McNair Jr. grabbed the rebound and called a timeout with 1.5 to go but the inbounds pass was deflected and rolled out of bounds as time expired.

Perry led the Wildcats with 26 points, including 17 in the second half. He made 7 of 10 from the field, 6 of 8 from 3-point range and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line. Jerrell Colbert added 15 points and Cam Carter scored 13.

Kansas State (17-12, 7-9) has lost eight of its last 11 games.

Colbert scored seven consecutive points for Kansas State capped by a dunk that made it 21-19 but the Bearcats scored 11 of the next 13. The Wildcats scored the final four points of the first half and the first four of the second to trim its deficit to 34-31 with 19 minutes to play but Newman scored nine points in a 13-4 run over the next 3 minutes.

The Bearcats are 8-1 all-time against Kansas State. The programs met seven times from 1958-68 and have played just twice since, the most recent coming when Cincinnati beat the Wildcats 75-61 in the first round of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

 </figure>CINCINNATI (AP) — John Newman III scored 13 of his 18 in the second half, Simas Lukosius hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 10.6 seconds left and Cincinnati blew a 13-point lead before beating Kansas State 74-72 Saturday night to snap a three-game skid.Lukosius finished with 13 points. Day Day Thomas added 14 points, five assists and four steals and Jizzle James scored 10 for Cincinnati (17-12, 6-10 Big 12).Jamille Reynolds converted a three-point play to give Cincinnati a 67-54 lead — matching the largest of the game — with 6:51 remaining. Tylor Perry answered with a 3-pointer 11 seconds later and added two free throws before he hit another 3 to cap a 10-0 run a little more than 2 minutes later. Carter was fouled on a 3-point shot and hit all three free throws to pull the Wildcats within two with 3:03 remaining and neither team scored again until Perry hit a straight-away 3 late in the shot clock that made it 72-71 with 1:16 left — Kansas State’s first lead since 8-5.Neither team scored again until Lukosius came around a screen, caught a pass from James at hit the winner. Perry lost the ball out of bounds under the basket with 2.7 seconds to go and Newman was fouled with 1.7 left but missed the front end of a 1-and-1. Will McNair Jr. grabbed the rebound and called a timeout with 1.5 to go but the inbounds pass was deflected and rolled out of bounds as time expired.Perry led the Wildcats with 26 points, including 17 in the second half. He made 7 of 10 from the field, 6 of 8 from 3-point range and 6 of 6 from the free-throw line. Jerrell Colbert added 15 points and Cam Carter scored 13.Kansas State (17-12, 7-9) has lost eight of its last 11 games.Colbert scored seven consecutive points for Kansas State capped by a dunk that made it 21-19 but the Bearcats scored 11 of the next 13. The Wildcats scored the final four points of the first half and the first four of the second to trim its deficit to 34-31 with 19 minutes to play but Newman scored nine points in a 13-4 run over the next 3 minutes.The Bearcats are 8-1 all-time against Kansas State.
