Gail Samone Williams, 83, of
Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, December 03, 2023, at the Russell Regional
Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Gail was born on September 17,
1940, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of Leroy C. and Florence E. (Owens)
Sack.&nbsp; She grew up in Bunker Hill, Kansas,
and graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1958.&nbsp; After high school she achieved her associate
degree from Ft. Hays State University.&nbsp;
She lived in the Bunker Hill and Russell, Kansas areas all her life and
worked as an X-Ray Technician at the Russell Regional Hospital for 30
years.&nbsp; She was a member of the Bunker
Hill Methodist Church.&nbsp; She enjoyed riding
horses, bowling, gambling watching Kansas City Royals baseball and watching most
all sports on television.&nbsp; Most of all
she enjoyed spending time with her family and especially enjoyed being with her
grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her sons
Randy Williams of Gering, Nebraska and Tim Williams of Russell, Kansas and
daughter Kim Williams of Citrus Springs, Florida; 7 grandchildren, 12 great
grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, 1 nephew. 

She was preceded in death by her
parents, son Russell C. Williams III, brother Leroy Duane Sack, sister in-law
Betty Sack and grandson Francisco Serrano, niece Debbie Sack and special rescue
companion dog Lucky Lady.

A memorial service to celebrate
Gail’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, December 07, 2023, at the
Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Burial of her ashes will follow at the Bunker
Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Kansas. Book registration will be available from

Marvin LeRoy Cain, 85, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023. He was born November 12, 1938, in Peabody, Kansas, to George and Ruby (Knust) Cain.

Marvin was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He loved spending time with his family. He was an industrial arts instructor at Bennington High School for seven years and then served as the high school principal for the next 30 years before his retirement.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Janice (Swanson) Cain; children, Vicki Cain and Brad Cain (Ericka); grandchildren, Kayla, Ryan and Anna Pearson, Emma Fowles (Jobe) and Jack Cain; sisters, Shirley Hutton and Patricia Bethel.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Glen Cain.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, December 8, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with a vigil service at 7. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 9 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Salina.

Marvin LeRoy Cain

Neil A. Nulton, 85, Wichita, died peacefully on December 2, 2023.

He was born October 9, 1938, in Hays, Kansas to Ralph and Lorena Akers Nulton. He was a graduate of Hays High School. After graduation he served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carriers USS Randolph, Roosevelt, and Intrepid as well as duty assignments at various shore stations.

Neil married JoAnn Staab on April 22, 1961, in Hays. He earned degrees related to the arts from Fort Hays University and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Wichita State University. While attending Fort Hays Neil was honored to be listed in Who's Who In American Colleges and Universities. After completing his education, he relocated his family to the Branson, Missouri area where he opened a pottery business, and developed an arts and crafts program to train potters, jewelers, painters, print makers, etc. for vocational technical schools. He taught art and coached golf at Reeds Spring High School. After a teaching career of 25 years he retired and moved to Wichita.

Upon retirement, he drew on his art background to develop skills in creating nature related sculpture of mixed media with emphasis in woodcarving. Neil has participated in numerous competitions, gaining recognition throughout the Midwest.

Survivors include his daughter, Kim Clothier and her husband, Shawn Hatfield; a sister, Nancy Schukman; two granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, JoAnn; daughter, Nikki; and brother, Bruce.

In consideration of Neil's preference for privacy, there will not be any services or memorials.

SCOTT CITY - William (Bill) F. Simpson, age 67, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on September 10, 1956, in Oak Park, Illinois, the son of Karl Franklin and Betty Jane Melson Simpson, Jr.&nbsp; A resident of Scott City, Kansas, since 2014, moving from Lawrence, Kansas, he was a retired Emporia State University Associate Professor of Math and Computer Science.

Bill was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph RCIA Director since 2015, and was a cantor and choir member in Lawrence, Kansas, Oro Valley, Arizona, and Scott City, Kansas. A lifetime chess player, &nbsp;reached the International Postal Chess Expert rating, and the United States Chess Federation Postal Chess Candidate Master Level. Since retirement he played duplicate bridge in the American Contract Bridge League. &nbsp;At Christmas, he played both Santa Claus for the children, and “Santa Paws” to benefit the Scott County Animal Shelter. &nbsp;Bill loved Scott County, spending summers during his childhood with his grandparents, Bill and Floy Melson. &nbsp;Despite many trips throughout the world, when Bill and his wife Carolyn retired, they moved to the&nbsp;family farm in Scott County, &nbsp;where he was warmly welcomed, and where he was always happiest.

On June 15, 1978, he married Carolyn R. Schneider in Garden Grove, California.&nbsp; She survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Carolyn R. Simpson of Scott City, Kansas, and one Daughter - Betty Simpson of Denver, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his Grandparents and parents.

A rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. with the Memorial Service following at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, Kansas with Fr. Don Bedore presiding.

Martin Cabado Quintero, 82, died December 3, 2023 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. 

He was born December 11, 1940 the son of Jose Luis and Maria de Jesus (Quintero) Cabada.

Martin enjoyed spending time with friends and family, partaking of his favorite beverages and playing the lottery. 

He was a story-teller and made friends where ever he went. He was especially proud that Chalino Sanchez wrote the Martin Cabada Quintero Corrido in his honor.

Visitation will take place 4:00- 8:00 p.m. Monday December 4 and continue from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday December 5, 2023 until the Funeral Service time of 1:00 pm all at Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.

Jean Ann Mazanec, 64, of Colby, died Friday, December 1, 2023, at Citizens Medical Center. 

She was born June 11, 1959, in Hoxie, KS, to Russel and Valeria (Smith) Bainter. 

Jean graduated from Hoxie High School and attended Colby Community College. She married Jerome Mazanec on July 19, 1980. 

They welcomed their first child, Robin, in 1981 who then went to be with the Lord in 1983. 

After much prayer, they decided to go the route of adoption and in 1993 the couple brought Danyelle home from China and went to Las Vegas in 1996, where they added Caleb to the family. 

Jean enjoyed raising their children and attending all the events her children participated in. 

She loved her family and volunteering at Heartland Christian School, the church, and wherever else she could. 

Jean enjoyed cooking, playing the dominoes game of chicken foot, and in her younger years, going on motorcycle trips.

 She was a devout Christian and member of College Drive Assembly of God where she attended multiple Bible studies.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents Russel and Valeria Bainter; brother Jim Bainter and daughter Robin Mazanec.

She is survived by her husband Jerome; children, Danyelle (Logan) Montes and Caleb (Abigail) Mazanec; granddaughter Olivia Montes; brothers, Bill (Rose) Bainter, Bob (Sandy) Bainter and Dale (Esther) Bainter and sister-in-law, Twila Bainter.

Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. 

Funeral Service is at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the United Methodist Church, Colby, with burial in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Colby.

Jean Ann Mazanec

Larned - Larry Jack Armstrong passed away on Nov 29, 2023, in Larned, KS surrounded by family and friends.

Jack was born on Oct 5, 1939 to Keith and Hazel (Hartman) Armstrong, in Larned. He was the youngest of four.

Jack joined the Navy after high school, but was honorably discharged after the death of his father, Keith, to come back to help his mother on the family farm.

After returning to Larned, Jack met the love of his life, Jeanetta Mae Osborn (Jeannie), they were married on June 9, 1968. They purchased the farm that had been homesteaded by Jack’s great grandfather. They moved to their farm east of Larned, and would spend the rest of their lives there. Together they raised three children, Aaron, Eric and Alicia.&nbsp;

Jack worked at various jobs after returning to Larned. He started out as a roofer and ended up a postal carrier, but his real passion was the farm and his cattle. After retiring from the post office in 1993, he was able to focus solely on ranching. After retirement, he also developed a love of gardening, and would spend countless hours tending to his plants.

After Jeannie, the farm was Jacks great love, and he poured his heart into it, turning it into an oasis on the plains. He laid the back patio by hand. He turned the hole left from the homemade swimming pool that he had built when his kids were young, into a sunken patio, complete with two ponds and a waterfall made from the foundation of a church that had been in the pasture. &nbsp;Jack always loved a project, and would barely be finished with one, before he was ready to start work on the next “area”. &nbsp;One has to only walk the grounds of the home place to see the love that he had for it.

Jack loved spending time with his children, and was delighted by the arrival of his two granddaughters, who officially made him Papa. Once they were born, he had an endless list of projects to keep him busy for his grand babies. Jack enjoyed going on vacations with his kids, grandkids, and his nieces and nephews.

He loved to explore new places, but his favorite was always the Rocky Mountains.

Jack was an avid football fan, and absolutely loved the Kansas City Chiefs. He was so happy with the Chiefs success the last few years, and loved to watch them with friends and family while enjoying a Coors Light.

Jack was well known for his sharp wit and sense of humor, and kept his sense of humor despite an extended illness that kept him in, more than out, of the hospital the last seven months of his life. &nbsp;He would crack jokes with family, friends and hospital staff alike. His family was told by numerous staff members at various hospitals, that Jack was among their favorite patients because of his sense of humor. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of the staff at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital. From the Doctor and Nurses, to PT, RT and OT as well as the Housekeeping Staff, every one of them was an angel to our Dad, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Jack was preceded in death by his father, Keith Armstrong, mother, Hazel Fairchild, brother, Earl Armstrong, brother Don Armstrong, and sister Loal McMillan. &nbsp;He is survived by his wife, Jeannie, of the home, his son Aaron Armstrong, son Eric (Jen) Armstrong and daughter Alicia (John) Spitler, and two granddaughters, Lela and Mina Spitler, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with military honors and Pastor Damon Bradley presiding. Visitation 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2023, with family present from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.

He turned the hole left from the homemade swimming pool that he had built when his kids were young, into a sunken patio, complete with two ponds and a waterfall made from the foundation of a church that had been in the pasture. &nbsp;Jack always loved a project, and would barely be finished with one, before he was ready to start work on the next “area”. &nbsp;One has to only walk the grounds of the home place to see the love that he had for it.Jack loved spending time with his children, and was delighted by the arrival of his two granddaughters, who officially made him Papa. Once they were born, he had an endless list of projects to keep him busy for his grand babies. Jack enjoyed going on vacations with his kids, grandkids, and his nieces and nephews.He loved to explore new places, but his favorite was always the Rocky Mountains.Jack was an avid football fan, and absolutely loved the Kansas City Chiefs. He was so happy with the Chiefs success the last few years, and loved to watch them with friends and family while enjoying a Coors Light.Jack was well known for his sharp wit and sense of humor, and kept his sense of humor despite an extended illness that kept him in, more than out, of the hospital the last seven months of his life. &nbsp;He would crack jokes with family, friends and hospital staff alike. His family was told by numerous staff members at various hospitals, that Jack was among their favorite patients because of his sense of humor. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all of the staff at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital. Alvin Lee Naeve, 73, died on Thursday November 30, 2023 peacefully at his home in Garden City, Kansas. 

He was born July 20, 1950 in Fort Dodge, Iowa the son of George Richard and Mary Alice (Adamson) Naeve.He grew up in Moreland, Iowa, and enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduating high school. 

Once he had completed his military service, he attended the University of Northern Iowa and received a degree in business management. 

Later, he founded Des Moines Furniture Mart, where he made furniture to sale. 

He was married to Carla Cook in Rinard, Iowa on May 22, 1973 and had two children, a daughter and a son. 

After moving to Garden City, Kansas in 1998, Alvin worked for Tyson’s Fresh Meats until retirement. 

He spent most of his time relaxing with his family and friends, fishing when he could, and drinking barley soda in the garage. 

It was his favorite pastime to tease someone every day or else he considered the day to be wasted.Survivors include his Wife-Carla Rose Naeve of the home-Children-Randall (Ina) Naeve of Salt Lake City, Utah &amp; Sandra (Yolani) Naeve of Miami Florida ; Grandchildren-Camelot (Refugio) Ferrera, Cruz Diaz-Naeve &amp; Lillian Diaz-Naeve; two Great Grandchildren-Rosalia Chairez &amp; Risella Chairez &amp; Sibling-Regina Huelman, &amp; Son-In-Law Anselmo Diaz-Escareno of Garden City, Kansas.

Alvin Lee Naeve

&nbsp;Jimmie (Jim) Lee Kehn was born in Dodge City, KS, on October 17, 1949, to Sam and Ruth Koehn Kehn. 

He passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023, in his room at Western Prairie Senior Living. He was seventy-four years old.

He started school at Copeland KS. He then attended Garfield Elementary and later the Alta Brown Elementary school in Garden City.

 After his family moved from Garden City to eastern Grant County to start farming, he finished his elementary education at Red Rock School.Dad gave his heart to God at the age of 13. 

He was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on February 17, 1963, by Minister Sam Jantzen. 

Being an obedient follower of Christ’s teachings was always important to him. 

Shortly before his death he had a beautiful vision that reassured him of his relationship with Christ.

As a young adult, he served two years in 1-W service at the hospital in Halstead KS. 

That is how he met our mother, Anita Dirks. 

They lived in Halstead until Dad finished his time of service at the hospital. 

They then moved to Ulysses so Dad could help on the farm.

Dad worked hard at a number of vocations throughout his life.

 He farmed and later was a mechanic at Moody’s Engine Service.

 He was also a mechanic at Coop Car Care, and later at Innermotion. 

He very much enjoyed his last job at the maintenance department for USD 214.

Dad made thoughtful choices and most always had a good reason for doing whatever he did.

He expressed his loves, interests, and passions with his hands rather than words. 

He engaged in his work and his hobbies with the mind of a craftsman. He found much fulfillment in producing high quality work.

His retirement years were some of the most wonderful of his life. 

He and Mom formed many strong friendships with the vendors and customers at the many craft shows they attended.

 He thoroughly enjoyed working in his woodshop making items to sell. 

He was able to enjoy this blessing until the last couple months of his life.

His survivors include his wife, Anita; two sons: Patrick and Rebeca, Lakin, KS, and Toby and Anne, Ulysses, KS; two grandchildren: Athena and Aden; brothers: Victor and Joyce Kehn, and Joe and Rita Kehn; sisters: Sherri Kehn; and Jonetta and Rod Yost; and two special girls that have become family, Rachel Anderson and Jenny Hernandez.

He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 10:30 AM at the Grant Mennonite Church in rural Grant County with Minister Denton Koehn, Minister Stuart Jantzen, and Minister Gary Schmidt officiating.

 Visitation will be Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. 

Interment will follow at the Grant Mennonite Cemetery.

Margie Lou Purdy, 88, Rush Center, Kansas, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas.

Margie was born January 30, 1935, in Olmitz, Kansas, the daughter of George and Augusta (Springer) Nordman. She was a resident of Rush County, Kansas, since May 1983, moving there from Alamosa, Colorado. 

She graduated from the Kansas School for the Deaf, Olathe, Kansas. She was a homemaker.

On August 25, 1973, she married Jay M. Purdy at Sacred Heart Church, Alamosa, Colorado. He preceded her in death June 7, 1999.

Survivors include numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Maurice Nordman; and three sisters, Alice Oborny, Melba Stos, and Norma Knight.

Visitation (weather permitting) will be Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 10:30 a.m.. to 11:00 a.m. at Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend, Kansas.

Georgia Lee Marie Temple, 84, of Norton, KS passed away December 2, 2023 at the Norton County Hospital.

 She was born on October 7, 1939 in Oregon to LaVerne and Betsie Cart.

Georgia lived in Oregon until her family moved to Norton around the age of two. She was a graduate of Norton Community High School. Georgia married Richard Lyle Temple on March 21, 1959 in Norton.

 They lived in Goodland for several years before moving back to Norton. While in Goodland, she worked at a mental health facility as a housekeeper and often worked days at a time caring for the patients.

 From a young age Georgia and Russell were very close and recently they spent a lot of time shopping, traveling, and visiting their families.

Georgia is survived by her children, Vinton Temple of Hill City, KS and Twila Temple of Norton, KS; siblings: Russell (Barbara Thompson) Cart of Almena, Marvina Stilow of Norton, Chuck (Sheila) Cart of Salina, and Rodney (Marilyn) Dial of Norton and many nieces and nephews.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, LaVerne and Betsie and husband, Richard.

Graveside services and inurnment will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at 10:00 am in the Norton Cemetery.

LEBANON, Kan. — Jaunita Pearl Stange, 91, passed away Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, at her home in Lebanon.

Jaunita was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Bellaire, the daughter of Earl and Meda (Vaughn) Cornwell. On June 11, 1950, she married Karl A. Stange in Phillipsburg, Kan. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Karl, a still born daughter Jennifer, two brothers, Harold Cornwell and Russell Brew, a sister Betty Dick, and a nephew Loren Dick.

Jaunita is survived by a son George Stange of Lebanon; three daughters, Karla (Gene) Jones of Smith Center, Leafa Ruth Marrs of Tilden, Neb., Angela (Rodney) Richardson of Lebanon; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Doris G. Cornelson, 94, died on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023, in Wichita. She was born April 10, 1929, in Havelock, Neb., the daughter of Ivan L. and Mabel Elizabeth (Hunt) Armstrong.

She married Raymond S. Cornelson on May 12, 1958, in Lincoln, Neb. He preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2020. Doris attended Havelock Schools and graduated from Northeast High School, Lincoln, Neb., in 1947. She held many jobs in her life, including as a telephone operator in Lincoln, Neb., and a school bus driver for USD 457, Garden City. Doris was the owner, operator of the snow-cone, cotton candy trailer for Cornelson's Big Valley Rides. She enjoyed reading, word find puzzles and knitting for her grandchildren. Doris was a member of the Garden City Chapter of the Kansas Good Sam's Camping Club and a life member of the Martha Washington Chapter of the Eastern Star of Lincoln.

Survivors include her three children-Cyndi Proffitt and spouse Ron of Garden City, Doug Cornelson of Wichita, and Ramona “Rocky” of Wichita; two daughters-in-law- Elaine Childers of Garden City and Pam Childers of Centerton, Ark.; seven grandchildren- Justin (Hannah) Proffitt of Garden City, Lucas (Bethani) Proffitt of Lincoln, Neb., Brandon (Megan) Proffitt of Denver, Michael (Courtney) Childers of Little Rock, Ark., Matthew (Angie) Childers of Bentonville, Ark., Sarah (Aaron) Phipps of Centerton, Ark., and Tim Childers of Garden City, and 16 great-grandchildren- Dominik Proffitt, Danika Proffitt, Marin Childers, Whit Childers, Libby Childers, Amelia Proffitt, Pierson Proffitt, Eleanor Proffitt, Landon Childers, Leyton Childers, Linley Childers, Elena Childers, Teagan Childers, Abigail Childers, Parker Phipps and Peyton Phipps.

Kathy Marie Schoenberger, 63, died at her home in Ogallah, on Nov. 27, 2023. &nbsp;She was born in Flint, Mich., on Dec. 14, 1959, the daughter of Janet (Love) and Marshall Willingham.

Kathy was a customer service representative selling beef throughout the United States for Cargill prior to her retirement. She was a dedicated Lutheran and contributed to many charitable organizations including Shriners Children’s Hospitals and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Kathy enjoyed reading, being a part of book clubs and listening to classic rock and roll. &nbsp;On Jan. 6, 2022, she married Karl Schoenberger in Ellis.

She is survived by her husband, Karl, and her brother, Jeff Willingham. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9 at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.

Alice Charlene Bowans, 91, a longtime Graham County resident, passed away Nov. 29, 2023, at Credo Senior Living in Hoisington. She was delivered at home by Doc Pete, in rural Graham County, Kansas, on July 3, 1932, to Ella (Veverka) and Charles William Smith Sr. Their family included five other children: Edith (Austin Dillon), William George, Arlene (Bill Bright and Elmer Leikam), Veda (Abe Miller) and Charles Jr. (Shirley).

Alice attended school and graduated from Palco High School in 1951. After high school she attended the Colorado School of Floral Design, receiving a diploma on Oct. 16, 1953. Later Alice completed a specialized course of study, “Management for the Ladies of Funeral Service," issued by the National Foundation of Funeral Service School of Management on March 2, 1956. Using her floral design training, Alice began a job at Flowers by Frances in Hays where she became an exceptional florist. She especially enjoyed working with Ruby.

On Dec. 8, 1984, Alice married the love of her life, Ed Bowans. Her entire life she was a caretaker, starting with her parents and then her siblings. She had no children but was extremely busy helping take care of her many nieces and nephews through the years. Alice was always on the go, visiting friends and family. After her husband Ed passed away, she began a job with Development Services of Northwest Kansas. She fell in love with Marge.

Everyone who knew her called Alice “The Cat Woman." She loved animals and would have saved them all if she could. She even fed the wildlife. Some hobbies she enjoyed included sewing, gardening, floral design and canning. Although Alice led a fulfilling life, in the last few years her health failed. However, she still enjoyed visiting and eating her favorite foods.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents Ella and Charles; her husband Ed; and her five brothers and sisters: Edith, William George, Arlene, Veda, and Charles, Jr. Survivors left to cherish her life and greatly miss her sharing stories and memories of their ancestors include her many nieces and nephews.

Otto “Ott” Dinkel Jr., 85, of Victoria, passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.

He was born Nov. 14, 1938, in Victoria, to Otto J. and Clementine (Hoffman) Dinkel. He married Carol Ann (Rome) on Sept. 1, 1962, in Victoria.

He was a bricklayer for over 40 years and worked for Dreiling Masonry and D &amp; S Masonry. He retired in 2000. Ott grew up in Victoria and was a 1957 graduate of Victoria High School and served in the Kansas Army National Guard. He enjoyed camping, boating, fishing and attending his grandchildren’s activities.

Ott is survived by his wife, Carol Dinkel of 61 years, of the home; his children, Kurtis Dinkel and wife, Shanna, Victoria; Kimberly Cavanaugh and husband, Michael, Wentzville, Mo.; his grandchildren, Karly Ottley and husband, Samuel, Lee’s Summit, M0.; Brady Dinkel, Victoria; Ally Dinkel, Lawrence; Emma Dinkel, Victoria; his step-grandchildren, Heather Fletcher and husband, Aaron; Adam Cavanaugh; Mathew Cavanaugh and wife, Christina; Michael Cavanaugh Jr. and wife, Claudia; Samual Cavanaugh and wife, Lauren; Ryan Cavanaugh; his 11 step-great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Iris Miller and Mary Jo Rome; both of Victoria; his brother-in-law, Ken Gottschalk and wife, Diane, Hays, and several nieces and nephews.

A Vigil service and Knights of Columbus Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Basilica of St. Fidelis.

Judy Marie Abbott was peacefully called home to the Lord and to walk with the angels on Nov. 6, 2023. She was 74 years old.

She was born on Nov. 17, 1948, in Ellis to Dorothy Leiker and Isidore Augustine. Judy was a graduate of Ellis High School. She cared deeply for her family, friends and as a professional caregiver for over 30 years, those in her care as well.

She did this not out of obligation but because of who she was. Judy’s compassion was not limited to just those with two legs. Judy’s love for animals was without question and she never met a dog or cat that did not need “just one more treat."

She also had a crisp, witty, and fun sense of humor which she shared with all. When Judy let out her one-of-a-kind laugh, it was impossible not to join in.

Judy is survived by her son Dale Herrman, daughters Pamela Gonzalez, Ava Wood, and Jennifer Abbott, stepson Steven Abbott, stepdaughter Leigh Ann Schultz, brothers Charles and Patrick Augustine, son-in-law Robert Wood, daughter-in-law Sharon Herrman, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous other extended family members and friends.

Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years Lou Abbott, parents Isidore and Dorothy Augustine, brother Francis Augustine, daughter Suzzane Riley, and grandson Zeke Riley.

The family would like to thank the caregivers of the Estates at Shavano Park in San Antonio, Texas, who compassionately assisted and looked after Judy in her final months.
