Ruth Ann (Brown) Betts, 80, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.

Ruth Ann was born December 5, 1943 in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; She was one of two children born to George W. and Clarissa L. (Miller) Brown.&nbsp; She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in 1961.

Ruth Ann was united in marriage to Gene D. Betts on April 21, 1963 in Russell.&nbsp; This union was blessed with a daughter, Vickie.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.

Ruth Ann was a devoted wife and homemaker.&nbsp; She also worked as a Clerk for Dawson Pharmacy for many years before working at Burton Pharmacy.&nbsp; Then she worked for USD 407 as a Custodian for Simpson Elementary School. She was also the owner of Playdium Bowl along with her husband Gene, and their daughter Vickie. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Russell.&nbsp; She also was a member of Order of The Eastern Star Russell Chapter #332, where she was a Worthy Matron, the Eastern Star of Hays Chapter #228, Russell VFW Ladies Auxiliary #6240, Russell American Legion Ladies Auxiliary #99 and the Jeffco, Colorado VFW Ladies Auxiliary #1111.&nbsp; She was an avid Coca Cola collector and drinker.&nbsp; She enjoyed sewing, taking classes, doing silk flower arrangements, bowling, playing Bingo, and dominoes.&nbsp;

Ruth Ann’s surviving family includes her husband of 60 years, Gene of the home; daughter, Vickie Hill (Tom) of Russell, Kansas; four grandchildren; Tabitha Seldomridge (Philip), Tiffany Renteria (Jimmy), Thomas Hill, and Trevor Hill (Sarah), and seven great grandchildren with one on the way.

Ruth’s granddaughters have been her pride and joy since they were born, even though she made her daughter Vickie promise she would not make her a grandma until she was 50. Her nickname from her grandkids and her great grandkids was GMA and GGMA. Pepsi was a bad word that was to never be said around Ruth. It was ALWAYS Coke with extra ice. If asked if Pepsi was okay, her response was “Is Monopoly money okay?”

Ruth Ann was preceded in death by her parents; step father, LaVern Brack; and brother, Buddy Obe Brown.

Celebration of Ruth Ann’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.&nbsp; This is a Celebration of Life and Ruth went through life in jeans, so please respect her wishes and come casual to her Celebration. A private burial of ashes will follow at a later time.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp; A Memorial has been established with the Russell Senior Center.&nbsp; Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

Dennis Raye Davidson, 79, passed away on February 13, 2024, in Garden City, Kansas. He was born on July 23, 1944, in Dodge City, Kansas. Dennis was a dedicated and hardworking individual who led a remarkable life.

Dennis proudly served his country in the United States Navy. His military associations were a significant part of his life and shaped his character.

Following his military service, Dennis owned and operated the successful locksmith company, B &amp; D Lock and Key, in Dodge City, Kansas. He was known for his expertise in repossessing vehicles and was a respected member of the locksmith community. Dennis was also a member of the Great Plains Locksmith Association and Associated Locksmiths of America. He had a passion for his career and was admired for his professionalism and high standards.

Beyond his work, Dennis had a variety of hobbies. He loved hosting BBQs, spending time at the lake, jet skiing, and cruising on his pontoon boat. He enjoyed keeping in touch with his many friends through Facebook and being able to stay connected in each of their lives. He also had a passion for dirt track racing and served as a police auxiliary. Dennis lived life to the fullest and made the most of every moment.

Dennis will be dearly missed by his wife Denise, children Shani, D.J. (Vicki), Dustin (Stephanie), and Kayla (Matt), as well as his grandchildren Katie, Davis, Stephen, Rochelle, Braden, Shye, Rawley, Haleah, Levi, Alexis, and Zoey. He also leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren, his brother Kelly, lifelong friends Willy and Nadine Phelps, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Davidson and Gerri (Bierce) Davidson, and his sister Donna Osborn.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Dennis' life well lived. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas, in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Lakin- Johnney Perez, 23, died on Monday, February 12, 2024 in Garden City. He was born on February 17, 2000 in Garden City the son of Noel &amp; Annette (Garcia) Perez.

Johnney graduated from Lakin High School in 2018 where he was very involved in sports. He was a 4 time state qualifier in wrestling and finished 4th his Senior year. He was a running back on the football team and outfielder on the baseball team. After high school he received a wrestling scholarship to Barton County Community College and wrestled there for 2 years. After his schooling he moved to Hays where he was employed as roughneck at Murfin Drilling Company. He was a member of St Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin. He enjoyed fishing, especially his trips to Ute Lake in Logan, New Mexico and Bob Hall Pier in Padre Island, Texas. He also enjoyed hunting and traveling with his family.He is survived by his Parents- Noel &amp; Annette Perez of Hays, two Brothers- Shawn Petties, Jr. of Garden City and Dustin Kraft of Wichita, Sister- Sheyenne Perez of Garden City, Grandfather- Johnny Garcia of Hobbs, New Mexico. He is preceded in death by his Grandparents- Alice Garcia and Rosie &amp; Juan Perez, Jr.

Vigil Service will be at 7:00 PM Friday and Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM Saturday both at St Anthony Catholic Church in Lakin with Rev Peter Tran as Celebrant.

Samuel “Vic” Victor Barbo, age 97, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Saturday, February 10, 2024, at St. Catherine Hospital in Dodge City, Kansas. He was born June 6, 1926, in Sedro-Woolley, Washington, the son of Andy and Rose (DeBay) Barbo.

Vic grew up in Washington and at the age of 17 years enlisted in the United States Navy. He served during World War II as a ball turret gunner on a TBM Avenger. After an Honorable Discharge from the service, he came to Ulysses and began working in the oil field. He was the owner / operator for 57 years of Barbo Well Service, Inc. He married Millie Hickey on June 5, 1964, in Meade, Kansas. Vic served on the Ulysses City Council, was active in the Grace Lutheran Church, and Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79. He was a pilot, owned dirt track race cars for several years, enjoyed watching NASCAR, playing the lottery and sports betting. Vic could be found having coffee with his buddies at McDonald’s, was an avid fan of the KC Chiefs, OU, KU, and the Red Sox. He fondly cherished his time with his dog, Rambo.Vic is survived by his wife, Millie, of the home; sons, Kevin Barbo and wife, Debra, of Ulysses, and Victor Barbo of Manhattan; daughters, Lorraine Barbo Anderson and Vicki Barbo both of Phoenix, Arizona; brother, Walt Barbo of Aurora, Colorado; sister, Marie Sims of Sedro-Woolley, Washington; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and special caregivers, Juanita De La Pena, Rosie Rivas, and Maria Gonzalez.

Vic is preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Rose Barbo; sisters, Alice Juckett, Evelyn McCormick, and Eleanor Poppe; son-in-law, Max Lee Anderson; and great-grandson, Brandon Barbo.

Funeral service will be Friday, February 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Oasis Church in Ulysses with Pastor Andy McMillan officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery with military rites conducted by Dexter D. Harbour American Legion Post #79. Lorainna Kay Hurde-Holzmeister (63), passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 2, 2024, at the University of Colorado Health Center in Denver, Colorado.

Lorainna (Kay) was born on July 24, 1960 to parents Lorenzo and Wanda Hurde Sr., in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado.

After graduating from Larned Senior High School in 1978, Lorainna moved to Colorado, where she obtained multiple certifications in healthcare as a Mental Health Clinician. Lorainna retired from the State of Colorado and Larned State Hospital after serving over 25 years in the mental&nbsp;healthcare industry.

Lorainna is preceded in death by her Husband Michael K. Holzmeister, who passed away on September 26, 1992, and her Mother Wanda Lee Hurde, who passed away on December 7, 2017.Lorainna is survived by her Daughter, Vaunda Jeanne Chism and Son-In-Law, Abdi Buni, four grandsons, Harun Buni, Musa Buni, Idris Buni, and Abdullah Buni, Denver, Colorado, her Father, Lorenzo Hurde Sr. Larned, Kansas, Sister Melinda L. Sipnefski and Brother-In-Law Rudy Sipnefski, Topeka, Kansas, Brother Lorenzo Hurde Jr, and Sister-In-Law Stormy Hurde, Dodge City, Kansas, four great nieces and four great nephews, and many other family members and friends who loved her dearly.In honor of Lorainna Kay’s life, the family is hosting a Celebration of Life service on Sunday,&nbsp;February 18, 2024 at 1pm, at the Knights of Columbus, 1216 M. Peter Steven Corrigan, age 68 years, of Reno, Nevada gained his wings on February 6, 2024 at his home in Reno. &nbsp;Peter was born on August 18, 1955 at Eureka, California to Michael Steven and Vikki Marie Corrigan. &nbsp;A lifelong resident of Reno, he graduated from Reno High School in 1974. &nbsp;He was employed as a welder for many years by NCR of Reno, Nevada until his health forced him to retire. &nbsp;Peter loved his family deeply, and had an extremely kind heart and a cowboy-style moustache. Donald “Donnie” Sylvester Basgall, 75, Bison, Kansas, was called home by Our Heavenly Father on Monday, February 12, 2024, with his beloved family by his side. Donnie was born in La Crosse, Kansas, on August 6, 1948, to Sylvester and Florentine (Urban) Basgall.

After graduating from La Crosse High School in 1966, he answered the call of duty and joined the US Navy, serving with honor from 1968 to 1972. He married Lynette Herrman in 1968 . They had two children, Scott and Kerri, before later divorcing in 1989.

Following his military service, Donnie began his professional career at Marlette Homes in Great Bend, Kansas. He later attended Salina Area Technical College where he earned a degree in Electronics in 1981. He then went to work for Flame Engineering, Inc. in La Crosse, Kansas, where he dedicated himself until his well-deserved retirement in 2019.

Donnie’s greatest source of pride and joy was his family. He was a dedicated Grandpa to his three grandchildren, Karli, Kaden, and Maci. He found tremendous joy spending time attending every important, and not so important, event and especially his Saturday morning ritual of taking his grandkids out for Lamar donuts and chocolate milk, only to get home with them and start planning where they were going to go eat for lunch and supper!

Donnie loved to travel! Some of his favorite trips were to Chiefs games, fishing trips with his buddies, hauling Kerri places he always wanted to visit when she was a young adult, but nothing did he love more then when he

took Mike, Kerri, and the grandkids on two magical trips to Disney World, with a third trip in the making!

Donnie’s love extended beyond his immediate family; he was a true friend and a passionate sports fan. His loyalty to the Kansas City Chiefs and KC Royals was unwavering, he enjoyed watching the play with family and friends. He found most joy in outdoor activities spent fishing or engaging in friendly competitions of horseshoes, washers and cornhole.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3147 where he served as Post Commander. He was also a life long member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, both of La Crosse, Kansas.

Donnie is survived by his Daughter: Kerri (Mike) Baalmann, Peck, Kansas; three Grandchildren: Karli, Kaden, and Maci; Sister: Lucretia (Ken) Giersch; Brother: Les Basgall; and numerous loving family members and friends.

He is reunited in eternal peace with his son Scott, his parents Sylvester and Florentine, his brother Edwin, and his sisters Darlene Adams and Shirley Basgall (infant).

Visitation will be Sunday, February 18, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. that evening.

Church visitation will be Monday, February 19, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral mass will be Monday, February 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Sam Brand officiating. Interment with military honors by the United States Navy and the Bazine and La Crosse American Legion Posts will be at the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

Josie grew up in McAdoo, Texas, graduating from McAdoo High School. She was an outstanding athlete and received an offer from Texas Tech University to play basketball. She received her LPN license from Texas in 1974, then moved to Sioux City, Iowa and earned her degree as a Registered Nurse from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in 1982. She later moved to southwest Kansas in 1988 where she worked as a Registered Nurse in numerous capacities for 29 years and set up the Home Health for Kearny County Hospital. She retired in 2017. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking and was actively involved in the quilt club. She loved attending all of her kid’s, grandkid's and great grandkid's ball games.Survivors include her Children- Kevin &amp; Patty Hoover of Lakin, KS, Susan Stingley of Maricopa, AZ, Keith &amp; Kim Hoover of Phoenix, AZ, LaMona George of Dighton, KS, Melvin Johnson II of Scott City, KS, and Laura McKissick of Scott City, KS. 19 Grandchildren &amp; 39 Great-Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Parents, Son-In-Law, Scott Stingley and Grandson, Derik Johnson.

Jeannie (Meador) Thrasher passed away peacefully in Wilson, KS on February 8, 2024, at the age of 76. She was born on April 3, 1947, in Anthony, KS to Warren and Marcy (Vancyoc) Meador.

Jeannie told stories of growing up in Anthony working at her parents’ grocery store, running a fireworks stand every Fourth of July (she and her siblings got to shoot off the leftovers), the time her brother Pete broke his leg and how she spent the next few months pulling him around town in a wagon, and cruising around Anthony in her parents’ car with her best friends during high school without actually having a license.

Jeannie was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She was the dictionary definition of a people-person and loved visiting with friends. She was an expert seamstress and sewed a wide variety of items including two bell-bottom leisure suits for her brother Stu to wear to his prom (one of which was powder blue), green and purple jumpsuits when her sons were in grade school, and a Snoopy backpack for her daughter. She could make a mean no-bake chocolate cookie. She loved playing cards, especially Pitch and Shanghai Rummy, and loved to laugh.

Jeannie attended Emporia State University where she met her husband Darrell Thrasher, who was back to college earning a master’s degree. They married in 1969 and she moved to Wilson where he was already teaching school. The Thrashers briefly moved to Harper, KS from 1973-1977 before returning to Wilson. She worked for many years as a para at Wilson High School, from where she retired in 2013. For several years, she operated Balloon Jeannie, a balloon arrangement business, delivering balloons throughout Wilson and bringing smiles to countless faces.

Jeannie is preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; parents, Warren and Marcy; sister, Ann (Meador) Mortimer; brother, Dr. Pete Meador; and sisters-in-law, JoEllen, Maureen and Pam.

She is survived by her brother, Stu Meador (Leslie) of Marion; sons, Shawn Thrasher (Scott Farthing) of Anaheim, California and Pat Thrasher of Wilson; daughter, Jennifer (Thrasher) Thomas (Bruce) of Silver Lake; five grandchildren, McKenzie Ingham, Kamdyn Thrasher, Teagan Thrasher, Kaiden Thomas, Tyler Thomas; three great-grandchildren, Granger Ingham, Kash Ingham, Reece Ingham; and many nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Wilson Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service at the Wilson United Methodist Church.

In loving memory of a very cherished father, grandfather, brother, and uncle whose departure from this world has left the woods more quiet and the streams of rivers more still.

Jack Dean Geisler was 74 when he passed away peacefully on the early morning of February 12th, 2024. JD spent most of his life living in Downs, KS where he worked as a roofer and was a committed husband, father, and grandfather.

JD was born in Beloit, KS on June ,13th of 1949. In 1972 on February 11th he married the love of his life Cynthia Geisler. The two then welcomed their son Jeff in 1974 who then was JD’s right hand man and forever fishing/hunting partner.

JD had attended public school and went straight to the workforce after leaving school in early high school years. JD was one of the young men that helped build the Waconda lake and after the lake was finished up he had continued the work force as a roofing contractor.

JD was a very special man with a huge heart, he made sure that everyone in the room would have a smile on their face. His hands were skilled at fishing and hunting, so skilled that it was almost an art to him. Before JD had grandchildren he taught his son Jeff everything that he knew, the two had barely spent anytime home if you needed to find them you would have to look in the woods or by the rivers. People often referred to him as the “best fisherman around” and if anyone had any questions about fishing, he was the man they all went to. He was full of wisdom both inside and outside of the woods, he would share stories and people would come back wanting more. Being able to walk around in the woods with him was truly a cherished moment and you would gain a whole new understanding of nature. His legacy will not only live on as the best fisherman but also as a man of good heart full of love, and sometimes stubbornness, he truly left an imprint on those that he loved. JD was very devoted to his grandchildren and made sure to teach them his way of life, and they will cherish those memories for a lifetime. He was the perfect grandfather and would go as far as letting his granddaughters paint his toenails hot pink! One of JD’s favorite times would be in the summer, inviting all of the family down for a fishing trip and follow it up with a huge fish fry. JD’s wisdom will continue to guide us all; as we all say our goodbyes, remember that he is fishing the best rivers up in heaven as god rest his soul, may he rest in peace, we love you papa.

He is survived by his son Jeff Geisler, his grandchildren Rihannah, Kylia, Treyton, and Dane Geisler. Sisters JoAnn Robinson, Barb Geisler, and Bea Platter, and brother Jerry Geisler. JD spent most of his life living in Downs, KS where he worked as a roofer and was a committed husband, father, and grandfather.JD was born in Beloit, KS on June ,13th of 1949. In 1972 on February 11th he married the love of his life Cynthia Geisler. The two then welcomed their son Jeff in 1974 who then was JD’s right hand man and forever fishing/hunting partner.JD had attended public school and went straight to the workforce after leaving school in early high school years. JD was one of the young men that helped build the Waconda lake and after the lake was finished up he had continued the work force as a roofing contractor.JD was a very special man with a huge heart, he made sure that everyone in the room would have a smile on their face. His hands were skilled at fishing and hunting, so skilled that it was almost an art to him. Before JD had grandchildren he taught his son Jeff everything that he knew, the two had barely spent anytime home if you needed to find them you would have to look in the woods or by the rivers. People often referred to him as the “best fisherman around” and if anyone had any questions about fishing, he was the man they all went to. He was full of wisdom both inside and outside of the woods, he would share stories and people would come back wanting more. Being able to walk around in the woods with him was truly a cherished moment and you would gain a whole new understanding of nature. His legacy will not only live on as the best fisherman but also as a man of good heart full of love, and sometimes stubbornness, he truly left an imprint on those that he loved. JD was very devoted to his grandchildren and made sure to teach them his way of life, and they will cherish those memories for a lifetime. He was the perfect grandfather and would go as far as letting his granddaughters paint his toenails hot pink! One of JD’s favorite times would be in the summer, inviting all of the family down for a fishing trip and follow it up with a huge fish fry. JD’s wisdom will continue to guide us all; as we all say our goodbyes, remember that he is fishing the best rivers up in heaven as god rest his soul, may he rest in peace, we love you papa.He is survived by his son Jeff Geisler, his grandchildren Rihannah, Kylia, Treyton, and Dane Geisler. He was united in marriage to Nyla Edgett on May 24, 1975 in Long Island, KS.

Thomas Larry Post, passed away on February 8, 2024 surrounded by his family at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS at the age of 73. &nbsp;He was born January 8, 1951 in Norton, KS, the son of Earl &amp; Alpha (Ray) Post.

Tom grew up in Logan, KS and graduated from Logan High School. &nbsp;On June 17, 1972, he married Rebecca Orr, his best friend and soulmate. &nbsp;To this union they had three children, Dustin, Larry, and Christina. &nbsp;He had a longtime career in the oilfield. &nbsp;He worked in all aspects of oil production which took him from Logan, to WaKeeney, KS to southern Nebraska, to Medicine Lodge, KS. &nbsp;He retired and made his home outside of Pratt, KS where he enjoyed his days maintaining the large yard and "tinkering" in the shed with his dog Zeus. &nbsp;He found the most joy in life spending time with his family, especially the grandkids. &nbsp;His fondest memories included family time at the cabin in Colorado, fishing trips with grandkids to various state lakes, and traveling with lifetime dear friends, DD and Connie Breese. &nbsp;He will be most remembered for his fierce devotion to family, his strong work ethic, and his love of life. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frankie and Ronald; sisters, Ann Lowry and Marilyn Ross; brothers-in-law, Eugene Ross, Gene Holmes, Joe Breese and Jack Campbell.

She was born November 30, 1943 in Nuremberg, Germany the daughter of Greta Omeis.

Waltrout was preceded in death by her mother, and a grandson Maleki Shane “Boo” Jansonius.

Survivors include her son Glenn Jansonius and wife Lara of Phillipsburg; daughter Carol “C.J.” McGinnis and husband Mike of San Marcos, CA; and 3 grandchildren.

Clara Constance “Connie” Tuzicka, 94, of Russell, Kansas, died on Monday, February 12, 2024, at the Russell Regional Hospital.

Connie was born on December 28, 1929, in New York City, New York, the daughter of William John and Irma Grace (Miller) Hewitt.&nbsp; She grew up in Ocean Side Long Island, New York and attended local schools.&nbsp; She met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Floyd Charles Tuzicka on November 17, 1963, in Medicine Lodge, Kansas.&nbsp; They made their home in Olmitz, Kansas and moved to the Russell area the last several years. &nbsp;She worked as a certified nursing assistant at The Manor nursing home in Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a member of the St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell and former member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Olmitz.&nbsp; She was also a member of the church altar society and V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking, watching the Kansas City Chiefs football and Kansas State University football and basketball.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Floyd on July 24, 2023.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, February 15, 2024, at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell, Kansas, with the rosary being performed at 10:00 A.M. just before the funeral mass.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held after the funeral at 2 P.M. Jewell Schlicht, 103, of Lakeview Village, Lenexa, Kansas, passed away on February 6, 2024. Jewell was born on January 10, 1921, in Crosses, Arkansas. She moved with her family to Claflin, Kansas in 1926. She graduated from Claflin High School in 1939 and from the Brown Mackey School of Business in Salina, Kansas in 1941.

While in high school, she met her future husband, Ralph Robert Schlicht. They were married on February 28, 1942, in Claflin. Jewell followed Ralph while he served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, and while doing so, she was employed in several positions, including for the US Government packaging bandages, and for the US Post Office. After the war, they lived in Topeka, Kansas, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Chicago and LaGrange, Illinois. While in Chicago she worked for the US Army. They settled in Prairie Village, Kansas in 1953.

Jewell was an active volunteer and Board President at Zion Lutheran Church in Prairie Village and was a dedicated volunteer for 35 years in a ministry to translate Bibles into Braille for the blind. She attended Salem Lutheran Church in Lenexa in her later years. She moved to Lakeview Village in 2004 and was a volunteer at their “What Not Shop” for many years.

Jewell was an avid bridge player. Along with husband Ralph, she played bridge several times per month for many years. She continued to play several times per week while living in Lakeview Village. She was also an avid gardener, cook, domestic and international traveler, and had an eye for interior decorating. She was not afraid of any challenge and really loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by son, Mark (Carol); granddaughter; Elizabeth Schlicht (Kurtis Hanlon); and grandson, Robert (Katrina).

Jewell was preceded in death by husband, Ralph; son, Gregory; sisters, Opal and Hazel; and brother, Garland.&nbsp;

A memorial service will be held at the Heritage Building at Lakeview Village, Lenexa, KS, at 9:00 (visitation) and 10:00 (memorial service), on Wednesday, February 21st, handled by Porter Funeral Homes and Crematory, Lenexa, Kansas. William Henry Harper, Sr., 88, passed away February 9, 2024, at his home in Great Bend. He was born August 5, 1935, in Medford, Okla., to James E. &amp; Edna M. (Shepherd) Harper. &nbsp;He married Edna P. Seeney on July 28, 1957, in Newton.&nbsp;

Coming to Great Bend from Newton in 1962, William was an Engineer Tech for the Kansas Department of Transportation, retiring July 1, 1998. He was a devout man of God, and had stood firm in his faith since being saved in 1949 at the First Baptist Church, Newton, and later furthered his commitment at First Bible Baptist Church, Great Bend. &nbsp;He was a member of N.E.R.A. (Navel Enlisted Reservist Association), and Valley Lodge #95 I.O.O.F. William enjoyed needlework, camping, fishing, hunting, and CB radios, model trains and building balsa wood model airplanes. He was a veteran of the United States Navy Reserve as a Hospital Corpsman, First Class, serving for 32 years.&nbsp;

Survivors include, his wife, Edna of the home; two sons, William H. Harper, Jr. and wife Robin of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Bob Harper and wife Pam of McPherson; a daughter, Glenda Taylor and husband George of Mills, Wyo.; a sister, Nyrna Kelley of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lori Schussler; and a grandchild.&nbsp;

Janet Lou Manning, age 74, died on February 10, 2024. She was born on September 5, 1949 in Watseka, IL to Delbert and Loretta Koch Sprehe on Labor Day and her parent’s 4th anniversary. Her twin sister Janice made a surprise appearance a few minutes later. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She lived her love of the Lord in her life. She always acknowledged that God was in control of her life.

Her family moved to Oakley, Ks when she was 2 years old to purchase the Coast-to-Coast Store.&nbsp;She was educated in the Oakley school system and graduated from Oakley High School in 1967.&nbsp;She continued her education at Fort Hays State University and graduated in 1971.

She met William (Bill) Manning at FHSU and they were married on May 10, 1972 in Topeka, KS so that her uncle Arlen Bruns could perform the ceremony. They moved to Norton in 1974. She worked at Ideal Truck Lines, City of Norton, Manning Office Supply and End Zone. Three children were born to this union, Ryan, Chad and Candace. She was a Homemaker during the years her children were growing up.

She was active in the church and it’s organizations, Norton Cares, and had served on the Norton Public Library Board. She bowled in a league for many years and loved it. She also loved to read and sing. She was a long-time member of the church choir. Family was very important to Janet and she attended as many of her grandchildren’s activities as possible. She was an avid Bluejay sports fan.

Janet was preceded in death by daughter Candace Manning Willour, parents Delbert and Loretta Sprehe, parents-in-law Sam and Bonnie Manning, brother-in-law David Kruse.

She is survived by husband Bill Manning; children Ryan (Staci) Manning and Chad (Erin) Manning; son-in-law Garrett Willour; twin Janice (Lee) Russell all from Norton; sisters Betty Kruse; Colby, Nancy Sprehe, Colby, Barbara (Charlie) Baalmann, Grinnell; sister-in-law Sammye (Harold) Klee, Charlottesville, VA; grandchildren Matt and Logan Willour, Reilly, Rob, Ryann, Carly, Avery and Campbell Manning, all from Norton; many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 am Friday, February 16, 2024 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Norton. Inurnment will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Norton County, KS. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm Thursday, February 15, 2024 also at the church. The family would prefer memorials to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Norton Cares in lieu of flowers, they may be sent in care of Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home, 215 W. Main St., Norton, KS 67654. Janet Lou Manning, age 74, died on February 10, 2024. She was born on September 5, 1949 in Watseka, IL to Delbert and Loretta Koch Sprehe on Labor Day and her parent’s 4th anniversary. Her twin sister Janice made a surprise appearance a few minutes later. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She lived her love of the Lord in her life. JoAnn Streeter Glasse entered into the presence of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Monday, February 12th, 2024.

Born on September 04, 1932, to William and Kathryn Streeter in Scott City, KS. She married Maurice (Tad) Glasse on August 13, 1952.

She is survived by her 4 daughters Kathryn (Fred) Askren, Lisa (Tony) Harris, Toni (Ken) Horton, and Jennifer Quinn. As well as 14 grandchildren: Nathan Askren, Ben (Rhiannon) Harris, Nicholas Askren, Cale (Roxanne) Quinn, Maegan (Clayton) Berry, Cory (Melissa) Quinn, Trisha (Mike) Coffey, Chandra (Justin) Fisher, Rick (Ashley) Horton, Cameron Quinn, Chandler Quinn, Matt (Aubrey) Horton, Aubriana (Matt) Schneider, and Alec (Molly) Horton. As well as 22 great-grandchildren and 1 sister, Marlene Richmeier.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Tad, parents, 2 sisters (Ruthella Wagner and Twila McKinley), and 2 brothers (W.H. (Bill) and Albert Streeter).

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the First Christian Church in Garden City, Kansas with Rev. Steve Ensz officiating. A Private family burial will take place at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to the Kansas City Hospice House or to Gideons International, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
