Former Logan, KS resident “Sonny” Lawrence F. Ruff of Holyoke, CO passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020, at the Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke at the age of 84.

He was born March 5, 1936, in Logan, KS the son of Herman “Richard” and Jenny M. (Gottbredt) Ruff.&nbsp; He was an US Army Veteran, a Firefighter and a Blacksmith.

Sonny was united in marriage to Ruby I. Shockley on November 2, 1956, at Logan, KS.&nbsp; She preceded him in death in 2013.

Survivors include a son Richard Ruff of Logan; a daughter Sheila Gift of Holyoke, CO; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Logan Christian Church, Logan, KS with Pastor Gary Rahe officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan.&nbsp; Services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook Page.

Sonny will lie in state from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends for visitation from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. that evening at the Logan Funeral Home, 102 E. Church St., Logan, KS&nbsp; 67646.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Logan Fire Department.

'Sonny' Lawrence F. Ruff

Milton A. Meyer age 96 passed away Tuesday November 24, 
2020, at the Smith County Memorial Hospital in Smith Center, KS. He was 
born the son of Paul &amp; Lena (Giese) Meyer on October 5, 1924, in 
Smith County, KS.
 He was a farmer and a US Army World War II veteran. 
 He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Irene; and infant son- Roger; a brother – Donald; and a grandson – A.J. Black.
 He is survived by his daughter Debra (Jim) Black of Lawrence; 3 sons
 Randall (Sharol) of Smith Center, Craig (Debbie) of Pratt, Timothy 
(Susan) of Smith Center; 7 grandchildren; 10 Great Grandchildren.

Allen L. Salo, 57, passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020, at his home
 in Easton, Maine.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born on January 27, 1963 in Minot, North Dakota, the
 son of Raymond and Sonja (Kangas) (Salo) Aalto.&nbsp;
 Allen was a very kind, loving, and sweet man who will be greatly 
missed by all who knew him. He did not have a mean bone in his body and 
tried to always look at things in a positive light. The twinkle in his 
eyes that appeared when he was excited about something was and will be 
difficult to miss. Allen grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan 
where he developed a great love for nature and animals. Allen earned a 
Bachelor’s degree at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, a 
Master’s Degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and a PhD in 
psychology from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He began his 
teaching career at Fort Hays State University in Hayes, Kansas, and then
 for over 21 years at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Allen 
greatly enjoyed teaching his students and took tremendous pleasure in 
seeing them succeed.&nbsp;
 Allen is survived by his wife, Christina Salo and two step-sons 
Nathan and Justin Quint of Easton; his mother, Sonja (Salo) Aalto and 
his step-father Howard Alto of Rock, MI; his brother Mark Salo and his 
wife Laurie of Bozeman, MT; his two nieces Jordan Salo and Whitney 
Jelinek; and many special aunts, uncles, cousins and friends all over 
the country.&nbsp;
 Allen was predeceased by his father Raymond Salo in 1980.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Allen L. Salo

Patricia A. McConnell, 83, Salina, passed away November 24, 2020, at 
Salina Regional Health Center. She was born September 8, 1937, in 
Hoisington, KS, to Leonard and Clara (Birzer) Bahr.

She married Warren Ervin McConnell on October 6, 1959.&nbsp;&nbsp; Patricia 
worked as a Registered Nurse at Clara Barton Hospital up until her 
retirement. She was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and Altar 
Society, Hoisington.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Clara Bahr; and brother, Donald Bahr.

Survivors include; her husband, Warren “Ervin”; children, Edwinda 
(Wayne) Day of Isabel, Weldon (Karla) McConnell of Salina, Jan (Jody) 
Pfannenstiel of Salina, and Renee (Scott) Suppes of Great Bend; seven 
grandchildren, Miranda Flores, Kristen Flores, Erica Harford, Sarah 
McConnell, Nathan McConnell, Lauren Suppes and MaKayla Suppes; sisters, 
Luella Call of Rolla, MO, Rita Bahr of Jones, OK, Jenelda (Leo) Moore of
 Valdez, AK, and Francis Dietz of Milberger, KS; great-grandchildren, 
Dakotah and Colton Harlin of Ellensburg, WA, John, Matthew, Kallie, and 
Lucas Harford of Salina and Brook Harford of Wichita.

Goodland, Kansas, resident Rita Helen Light, 81, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend entered into eternal rest on November 23, 2020.

Rita was born on May 14, 1939, in Goodland, Kansas, the daughter of Margaret Elizabeth (Crocker) and Paul McKinley Daniels. She grew up in Goodland, along with sisters LaDonna and Diane, and four younger brothers, Gary, Joe, Kenneth, and Jack.&nbsp; She graduated from Goodland High School in 1957 and worked at the Model Steam Laundry and Caldwell’s.&nbsp;

On November 12, 1966, she married Dale Eugene Light at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland.&nbsp; In December of 1966, the couple moved to Golden, Colorado, where they settled down and started a family, welcoming two daughters, Elisabeth “Lisa” in 1968 and Julie in 1973.&nbsp; Dale’s job eventually led to a transfer in 1978 to Casper, Wyoming, where the family lived until 1986 when they returned to the Denver area. &nbsp;

Rita worked for many years at Vibra-tech in Westminster, Colorado and later worked at PSA Security Network in Westminster, Colorado from where she retired in 2005.&nbsp; She returned to Goodland with Dale where they enjoyed living out their golden years doing things they both enjoyed including gardening and spending time with, and caring for, their family.&nbsp; Rita moved to Commerce City, Colorado in August 2020 to live with her daughter, Julie.

Rita’s greatest joy was experienced through interactions with her family.&nbsp; She treasured her sisters, brothers, children, and her four grandbabies.&nbsp; She loved to visit on the phone with family and friends.&nbsp; Her kindness and love for her family are her legacy.&nbsp; She had a passion for growing flowers and tending her garden.&nbsp; When she couldn’t be outdoors, she enjoyed playing the piano, reading, and doing cross-stitch.&nbsp; The Catholic faith guided her life and she found great peace in praying The Rosary and Divine Chaplet of Mercy. &nbsp;

Preceding her in death were her husband of forty-nine years Dale; parents Margaret and Paul Daniels; brothers Gary, Joe, and Kenneth Daniels; brother-in-law Jerry Light; brother in-law Larry Roulier; son-in-law Cameron Fonseca; nieces Karen Wadas, Kimberly Ann, and Paula Smith; as well as in-laws Edward Coleman and Keith Coleman. Surviving family includes her daughter Lisa and Ken Coleman of Gillette, Wyoming; daughter Julie Fonseca of Commerce City, Colorado; grandchildren Matthew, Mary, Michael, and Nicholas Coleman, all of Gillette, Wyoming; sister LaDonna Corder and her husband Jim of Perry, Iowa; sister Diane Roulier of Brewster, Kansas; brother Jack Daniels and his wife Nancy of Muscatine, Iowa; brother-in-law David Light and his wife Janis of Wickenburg, Arizona; sister-in-law Iris Gotchall and her husband Pete of Plano, Texas; and many much-loved nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 28, 2020, at 10:30 AM MT at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Goodland, with Father David Micheal presiding.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland with a Parish Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM MT at the funeral Home.

Rita Helen (Daniels) Light

Ralph Jay Brooks, 94, passed away November 22, 2020, at the Sheridan 
County Health Complex in Hoxie, Kansas. He was born on April 3, 1926, on
 the family farm in Clayton, Kansas to Van W. and Thelma (Foust) Brooks.
 Ralph married Lea Rae Branscomb April 29, 1944. They were married for
 59 years and made their home in Clayton, Kansas where Ralph was a 
farmer and rancher. He served in the United States Army as a 
Radio/Radar Technician from May of 1944 until May of 1946 and was a 
proud veteran of World War II.
 Ralph was an avid KU Basketball Fan. He loved country music and played the harmonica since childhood. 
 Ralph is survived by his son, Don Brooks and wife Barbara of 
Clayton, Kansas; daughters, Carolyn “Jo” Walker and husband Dennis of 
Clayton, Kansas and Janet Guerrero and husband John of Salina, Kansas; 
brother, Vern Brooks and wife Martha of Green Valley, Arizona; four 
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren 
and many beloved in-laws.
 He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Bradley; and three sisters-in-law.
 Cremation has been chosen. A public visitation will be held at 
Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, in Hoxie, Kansas, on Friday, November 27, 
2020 from 1:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. A private family service will be held 
on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the Funeral Home. Following the 
service, inurnment and military rites will take place at the Clayton 
Cemetery, Clayton, Kansas.

Ralph J. Brooks

Don Nipple/Napell, age 68, of Hays, 
Kansas passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 at his home in 
Hays&nbsp;surrounded by loved ones from pancreatic cancer. He was born 
October 15, 1952 in Moscow, Kansas to Lester and Alice Rose (Downing) 
Nipple. On October 26, 1974 he married Janice D. (Newell) in Damar, 
Kansas.

Don, the middle child of 5 boys, was 
raised on a farm near Moscow, Kansas. He graduated from Moscow High 
School and attended Fort Hays State University where he graduated with 
his bachelor’s degree in business in 1974. Through the years he would go
 on to be president of Associates in Hays, Kansas, co-owner of John 
Deere in Lacrosse, Kansas, assistant manager of John Deere in Hays, 
Kansas, Prudential Savings and Loan In Hays, Kansas, before accepting 
the position of president of Farmers Credit Union in 1990. There he 
would spend the next thirty plus years until his retirement on July 3, 
2020. During his career he served as president of the Wheatland Chapter 
of Credit Unions, as a board member on the Kansas Credit Union 
Association, and many other committees and boards. During Don’s brief 
illness, he had the pleasure of many friends and family, from near and 
far, visiting him. Don’s impact on those and others will be felt for 
years to come.&nbsp;&nbsp;He enjoyed fly fishing in Colorado, pheasant and quail 
hunting with his son and brother, Sunday morning coffee on his back deck
 and morning coffee meetings/visits with members at the office. Most of 
all, Don was a devoted family man who enjoyed his family time and 
especially the grandkids, never missing an event.&nbsp;

Don is survived by his wife of 46 
years, Janice of Hays; his son, Adam Napell and wife Nicole of Hays; 
three brothers, Fred Nipple and wife Diantha of Alamosa, Colorado, Stan 
Nipple and wife Bonnie of Liberal, Kansas and Cary Alexander and wife 
Muriel of Hays, his four grandchildren, Callum, Camden, Liam and 
Jamison.&nbsp;

Don was preceded in death by his father and mother Lester and Alice Rose Nipple&nbsp;&nbsp;, and a brother, Kermit Nipple.

Memorial services will be&nbsp;1:00 PM 
Saturday, November 28, 2020&nbsp;at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and

Don Napell

Delores Marie Jones Huxman, age 91, passed away on November 21, 2020,&nbsp; at Grisell Memorial Hospital. Delores was born on July 31, 1929, near 
Hackberry, KS to A. Dale and Edna Jones.&nbsp;

She attended school in Utica and Pueblo, Colorado.&nbsp; While attending 
in Pueblo she worked at Sears and Roebuck Company.&nbsp; After graduation, 
Delores returned to Utica to work in her cousin’s store.&nbsp; Upon returning
 to Kansas, Delores met the love of her life, Ronald Gene Huxman.&nbsp; There
 were united in marriage on January 18, 1948.&nbsp; They lived on the family 
farm North of Arnold.&nbsp; Together, they raised four children and were 
active in their sports, 4-H and other activities.

Delores was an avid gardener, cook and seamstress.&nbsp; She drove a 
school bus for USD 302, Ransom, for many years.&nbsp; She was an active 
member of the Arnold United Methodist Church and UMW.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ron, and granddaughter, Melissa.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Bobbie Jones of Colorado; 
children, Craig (Kay) Huxman of Oklahoma City; Karri Smith of Ransom; 
Brent (Brenda) Huxman of Topeka, and Kami (Ron) Smith of Palmer.

She will be dearly missed by all of her grandchildren, great grandkids, and many friends and relatives.

Funeral service will be at the United Methodist Church, Arnold, on 
Saturday, November 28, 2020, 11:00 a.m. with burial in the Arnold 
Cemetery.&nbsp; Viewing will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Friday, 
November 27, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Garth Guy Frydendall, 86, passed away November 23, 2020, at Country 
Place Memory Care, Hoisington.&nbsp; He was born November 23, 1934, at 
Bellaire, Smith County, Kansas, to Harold Guy and Ida Lenore (Baldwin) 
Frydendall.&nbsp; Garth married JoAnn Jewell October 10, 1955, in Osborne.

Garth, a Great Bend resident since 1964 coming from Smith Center, 
hauled grain and feed for Great Bend Feeding for 40 years, retiring in 
2004. &nbsp;Following retirement, he drove semi for various area farmers 
during harvest. In Garth's spare time, when he was not driving his 
truck, Garth did repairs on his truck.&nbsp; He got to enjoy flying on 
occasion.&nbsp; Garth also enjoyed mowing and keeping his yard looking sharp.

Survivors include his wife, JoAnn of the home; two daughters, Debbie 
Evers and husband Daryl of Olathe and Brenda Axman and husband Paul of 
Hoisington; four grandchildren, Derek Evers and wife Heather, Deren 
Evers, Dawna Konkel and husband Devin, Douglas Axman and wife Jenn; and 
two great grandchildren, Harrison Evers and Adalynn Axman.&nbsp; He was 
preceded in passing by his parents and two brothers.

Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at
 Great Bend Cemetery North, Great Bend, with Pastor Troy Miller

Michael Ernest Flannagan, 64, passed away November 12, 2020, at his 
home. Michael was born September 15, 1956, in Chicago, IL, to Ernest and 
Lucille Denofrio Flannagan. 

A Larned resident for 15 years, he was a 
talented painter and sculptor and worked professionally as a graphic 
artist. Despite living in the Midwest throughout his life, scuba diving 
was a favorite pastime that took him to many exotic destinations around 
the world. Michael was a loving father and son, and will be remembered 
for his kindness and humor.

Michael is survived by his mother, Lucille Flannagan, Larned, two 
daughters, Kellie Flannagan of Pensacola, FL, and Timathi Fitzpatrick of
 Washington State, and his younger brother, Timothy Flannagan, of FL. He
 is also survived by many family friends who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Flannagan, and loving 
brother John Patrick Flannagan. Cremation has taken place and no

 Neumann, age 73, of Ellis, KS died Monday, November 16, 2020, at the 
Good Samaritan Society – Ellis.&nbsp; She was born July 7, 1947, in Lawrence, 
KS to John and Loretta (Gross) Purdy.

Louise met and married Richard Neumann 
in 1968 in Hays, KS.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Marion High School and 
furthered her education at Ft. Hays State University, earning a master’s
 degree in education.

She was a passionate reader and enjoyed spending time with her children, especially her grandchildren.

Edmund worked as a brick layer in his 
early years, then retired from Cross Manufacturing.&nbsp; He enjoyed raising 
Boston Terriers and pigeons, and watching the Steelers.&nbsp; He served in 
the U.S. Army Reserves from 1959 to 1962.

He is survived by his children, Frank 
Giebler, Valley Falls, KS; Chris (Stacey) Giebler, Topeka, KS; and 
Tammie (Ron) Williams, Hays, KS; Grandchildren Kale (Kiley) Richmeier,

Ricky Lee Hardiek was born October 8, 1957, in Norton, KS to Virgil Joseph and Kathryn Irene (Reedy) Hardiek. He passed away November 20, 2020, at his home in Norton at the age of 63. 

Rick grew up in Lenora and was a 1975 Lenora High School graduate. He went on to attend Fort Hays State and Wichita State Universities. Rick married Lisa Chaney on October 9, 1993 in Las Vegas, NV. He has worked for the Norton Correction Facility for the last 29 years. Rick enjoyed golfing and watching Jayhawks Basketball and Dodgers Baseball. He loved his family and his dog Annie. 

Rick was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kay Berls and Rhonda Frack; infant siblings, David and Judith; brothers-in-law, Danny McMillin and Jerry Berls. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Lisa of Norton; step-daughter, Colleen Rivera; brother, Roger (Bev) Hardiek of Norton; sisters, Pat (John) VanDiest of Lenora, Connie (Roger) Dreher of Hays and Cathy (Danny) McMillin of Hays and step-grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Rivera and Kelby Santiago.

Cyril Fisher, 88, Hays, died Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Ellis Good Samaritan Society.

He was born May 17, 1932 in Hyacinth, 
the son of Zacheus and Monica (Rupp) Fisher.&nbsp; On May 3, 1955 he was 
united in marriage to Alice Geist at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays,
 and they celebrated 65 years of marriage before she preceded him in 
death on October 2, 2020.&nbsp; Cyril entered the United States Army in 1952 
during the Korean War, serving most of his time in Korea with the 3rd 
Infantry Division achieving the rank of Sergeant.&nbsp; Upon returning from 
the Army, he worked for Ford Plumbing and Heating and his brother Ralph 
Fisher at Fisher Floor Covering before moving to Phillipsburg, Kansas in
 December 1958.&nbsp;&nbsp; In Phillipsburg, Cyril and Alice owned and operated 
C&amp;A Floor Covering Store working side-by-side until their retirement
 in November 1995.&nbsp; They moved back to Hays in February 2003 to a 
retirement home.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. 
Anthony Third Degree Knights of Columbus of Schoenchen, Fourth Degree 
Knights of Columbus Bishop Cunningham Assembly, and Hays VFW Post 
#9076.&nbsp; He was a charter Grand Knight when the Phillipsburg Knights of 
Columbus Council started.&nbsp; Cyril enjoyed golf and achieved two holes in 
one, one at Phillipsburg and one at Fort Hays Golf Course.

Survivors include a brother: Victor 
Fisher and wife Lillian of Hays, a sister: Dolores Pfannenstiel and 
husband Virgil of Hays, three sisters-in-law: Josie Fisher and Diane 
Fisher, both of Hays, and Tina Rohleder and husband Val of Abilene, and 
many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents, his wife Alice, four brothers: Edwin, Ralph, Alvin, and Francis
 Fisher, three sisters: Agnes Waldschmidt and her husband Rudy, Rita Mae
 Giebler and her husband John, and Georgine Jacobs and husband Louis, 
and a sister-in-law: Anna Mary (Pfeifer) Fisher.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 
with Fr. Matthew Cowan and Fr. Alvin Werth officiating.&nbsp; Burial with 
military honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard will follow in 
St. Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 on 
Friday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Saturday at Hays Memorial Chapel 
Funeral Home.&nbsp; The Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus 
will stand honor guard from 5:30 pm until 6:30, a vigil service will be 
at 6:30 pm, followed by a combined Third and Fourth Degree Knights of

He was born May 20,1918, in Trego County, Kansas to John J. and Mary (Armbrister) Zachman. On December 25, 1947, he married Adabelle Katherine Aust at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ellis, Kansas.

Ernest was farmer and stockman. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he was a past council member. He was also a past board member of Farm Bureau. He enjoyed welding and playing the accordion. Ernest was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and "greatpa".

He is survived by his wife, Adabelle Zachman, Ellis, KS; a son Darrell Zachman (Annie), Hays, KS; a daughter Diane Henderson (Floyd Henderson), Ellis, KS. Grandchildren: Erin (Jerry) Rogers, Hedgesville, WV; Micah Kruckenberg (Casey), Phoenix, AZ; Amanda Dolechek (Luke), Wichita, KS. Great grandsons: Isaac Rogers, Ellis, KS; Christian Rogers, Hedgesville, WV. Sisters: Martha Massier, Ellis, KS; Dorothy (Milton) Dietz, Hays, KS; Helen (Don) Deines, WaKeeney, KS. Marie Margaret Billinger, age 93, of WaKeeney, KS, passed away November 21, 2020, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. Marie was born July 31, 1927, in Brownell, KS to August and Mary (Halblieb) Moos. &nbsp;

Marie was a graduate of Trego High School. On June 4, 1946, Marie Moos and Alvin Billinger were joined in marriage. She was a loving mother and doting grandma, a farmer, and lover of horticulture.

She was always available to spend time with her grandkids.&nbsp; She was a passionate gardener and florist who took much pride in her garden and flowers.&nbsp; Marie was eager to share her knowledge and would gladly answer questions about plants and flowers to anyone who would ask. Later in life, it brought Marie great joy sharing an ice cream with family and doing puzzles with her children and grandchildren. &nbsp;

Marie is survived by daughters Judy (Eddie) Bollig of WaKeeney and Janie Dixon of Decatur, TX; son Larry Billinger of Tulsa, OK; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents; husband Alvin; children Tim Billinger and Cathy Millard; 3 grandsons, Darin Bollig, John Eck and Heath Billinger; and 7 siblings.

Per the family's wishes, a private viewing and mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Christ the King Cemetery. &nbsp;

Marie Margaret Billinger

On the afternoon of November 19, 2020, Grace Snyder Hessman of 
Hutchinson, KS died at the age of 102.&nbsp; 

Grace was born in Ness County, 
Kansas, the daughter of Ronald Wayne Snyder and Phoebe Jane (Lamoreux) 
Snyder.&nbsp; She attended Ness County schools and shortly after graduating 
from high school moved to Dodge City, Kansas where she attended Dodge 
City Junior College and later married Roy J Hessman in August of 1946. 
&nbsp;They lived in Dodge until 1996 when they moved to Hutchinson, Kansas. 
While at Dodge, Grace was an employee of Eckles Department store and a 
proofreader at the High Plains Journal for more than 30 years.

Grace was a member of the First Methodist Church in Hutchinson.&nbsp; She 
was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hessman, on May 28, 2001;&nbsp; a 
brother, Robert Snyder, of Russel, Kansas; three sisters, Naida Moeder 
of Colorado Springs, CO, Lois Towns of Dighton, KS and later Garden 
City, KS, Ona Stecklein, Ness City, KS; and Grace’s son, Ronald (Rock) 
Hessman, and her best friend Sam Hessman (her cat and companion of 21 
years).

She is survived by her son, Robert Hessman, and his wife, Lisa, of 
Temecula, CA, her daughter in law, Donna Hessman, Hutchinson, KS; four 
grandchildren; four great grandchildren and 13 nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID, a memorial service will be scheduled sometime during 
the spring of 2021.&nbsp; In leu of flowers please give a donation to the 
Hutchinson Animal Shelter.

Loran Charles Zimmerman, 64, formerly of Schoenchen now residing in LaCrosse, died Saturday, November 21, 2020, at HaysMed.

He was born September 7, 1956, in Wichita, the son of Lester C. and Lillian (Herrman) Zimmerman.&nbsp; He was a graduate of Thomas More Prep High School in the class of 1974 and Goodland Vocational Technical School.&nbsp; On October 8, 1977, he was united in marriage to Jolene M. Hertel at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen, and they celebrated 43 years of marriage.&nbsp; For nearly 20 years, he was service manager for James Lincoln Mercury GMC and McLaren Lincoln Mercury GMC.&nbsp; In the late 90’s he built up the family farm as a rancher and farmer and later was the vice president of production for IACX.&nbsp; His memberships included St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Schoenchen Third Degree Knights of Columbus, where he was past Grand Knight.&nbsp; He was a Schoenchen City Councilman, chairman of Rural Water District One, Ellis County Fair Board President, RPM Speedway board member, and on the St. Anthony Church and Cemetery committees.&nbsp; He loved classic cars, watching American Pickers, K-State sports, and the Kansas City Chiefs.&nbsp; He looked forward to Thursday night gatherings, going to Mecum Auctions with friends, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Jolene of LaCrosse, two sons: Lance Zimmerman and wife Andria of St. George and Kyle Zimmerman and wife Sara of Schoenchen, his mother-in-law: Delores Hertel of Schoenchen, a brother: Brian Zimmerman and wife Lori of Ulysses, four sisters: Linda Cole and husband Aaron of Russell, Bonnie Rose and husband Richard of Mobile, AL, Brenda Thyfault and husband Jim of Hays, and Shari Gale and husband Randy of Shell Knob, MO, three step-brothers: Lester Leiker and wife Jerri Ann of Hays, Terry Leiker of LaCrosse and Neal Leiker and wife Linda of Hays, a step-sister: Brenda Park and husband Dan of Olathe, four grandchildren: Lawson, Macie, Abigail, and Ellie Zimmerman, one grandchild on the way, and numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Loran Charles Zimmerman

Blanche Marie (Luerman) Hilgenberg, 95,
 of Ellis, passed away Friday, November 20, 2020, at the Ellis Good 
Samaritan Society. She was born on September 4, 1925, to Charles and 
Mary (Klusener) Luerman on the family farm in Russell County, Kansas. 
She graduated from Dorrance High School in 1944.&nbsp; She married Albert 
Hilgenberg on July 16, 1944 at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Dubuque, 
Kansas.

Blanche worked as a rural school 
teacher early in her life, and later at Fuller Brothers Drug Store in 
Ellis, and as a cook at the Ellis Good Samaritan Center. Her most 
cherished role was that of devoted wife, mother, homemaker, grandmother,
 and great-grandmother. Her family always came first. She was a breast 
cancer survivor.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran 
Church, Ellis and Messiah Lutheran Church, Hays. During retirement, she 
enjoyed travelling the country with Albert.&nbsp;

She is survived by four daughters, Sue 
Staab (Tom) of Hays, Sheila Betts (Roger) of Shattuck, OK, Renee Wiesner
 of Lawrence and Trena Lang (Rodger) of Springfield, MO; two sisters, 
Vergie Heffel of Luray, KS, Gloria Waymaster of Bunker Hill, KS; ten 
grandchildren, Keith Staab (Diane), Kirk Staab (Jan), Craig Staab 
(Freda), Charla Heaton (Ashley), Shawn Betts (Lovey), Frank Wiesner 
(Trinh), Stephanie Parkins (Danny), Brandi Sunderman (Austin), Dylan 
Lang and Whitney Haas (Daren); twelve great-grandchildren, Cody and 
Aaron Staab, Kaden and Kyler Staab, Kiersten and Allison Heaton, Connor 
Betts, Francisca Wiesner, Owen Parkins, Reagan and Truman Sunderman, and
 Carter Haas.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, husband Albert, two sisters, Violet Bennett and Florence Cook, 
two brothers Clayton Luerman and Clarence Luerman and a grandson, 
Frederick Wiesner.

Graveside services for immediate family
 will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis. A Celebration of Life will

Kelly Vaughn Beisner, 66, passed away 
of COVID complications on Thursday evening, November 19, 2020, at Good 
Samaritan Society in Ellis, Kansas.&nbsp; He had fought a long-time battle 
with Parkinson’s for 17 years.&nbsp;

Kelly was born on January 15, 1954, in 
Oakley, KS, the son of Harold O. and Betty (Gatlin) Beisner.&nbsp; He earned 
his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Kansas State 
University in 1978.&nbsp; Kelly had a wonderful career in the golf industry 
and was awarded several salesman awards during his tenure with TORO.&nbsp; He
 was united in marriage to Sandra (Taylor) Beisner on May 10, 1997, at 
the St. Fidelis Church in Victoria, Kansas.&nbsp;

Kelly loved people; his family and many
 friends.&nbsp; He never met a stranger and thoroughly enjoyed life!&nbsp; His 
smile was infectious and lit up the room!&nbsp; Of course, his favorite hobby
 was golf and he enjoyed watching Kansas State and KC Chiefs football; 
he basically enjoyed almost any sporting event.&nbsp; He also enjoyed playing
 cards with his family and couldn’t conceal his joy when winning.&nbsp; He 
definitely didn’t have a ‘poker face’.&nbsp; Kelly was a member or affiliated
 with several Sales, Turf, Equipment and Golf Organizations during his 
career.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy of the home; son, Taylor and daughter,
 Grace, both of Hays.&nbsp; His sister, Linda West (Paul) of Norfolk,

Minnie Keller, age 101, of Ellis, 
Kansas passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Good Samaritan 
Society in Ellis. She was born June 23, 1919 in Ellis County, Kansas to 
Frank and Carrie (Wendling) Keller. On November 5, 1942 she married 
Gerhard Keller. He preceded her in death October 7, 1980.

Minnie had worked at the Plainville 
hospital until her retirement. After retirement she stayed active 
working at the Palco Café. Minnie was very fond of Palco and was known 
to walk throughout the town and visit with the residents. She enjoyed 
flower gardening, birds and she especially liked Halloween and dressing 
up for it. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and St. John 
Lutheran Church.

She is survived by a son, Gerald Keller
 of Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, Brenda Schumacher and husband 
Bruce of Lawrence, Kansas, Mark Armbrister and wife Crystal of Ellis and
 her great grandchildren, Katelyn and Cole Schumacher and Logan and 
Morgan Armbrister.

She was preceded in death by her 
daughter, Carolyn Armbrister; brothers, Oscar and Arthur and sisters, 
Freda, Irene, Helen and Martha.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM 
Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th Ellis,
 Kansas 67637. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral chapel.

All attending will be expected to wear 
masks and observe all Covid appropriate precautions. For those who are 
not comfortable with the regulations or being in a confined setting

Kansas passed away Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Good Samaritan 
Society in Ellis. She was born June 23, 1919 in Ellis County, Kansas to 
Frank and Carrie (Wendling) Keller. On November 5, 1942 she married 
Gerhard Keller. He preceded her in death October 7, 1980.Minnie had worked at the Plainville

Minnie Keller

Richard Glenn Simcox, 87, passed away November 22, 2020 at Hodgeman County Health Center, Jetmore.

He was born April 5, 1933, in Alamosa, CO., the son of Harry Rhea and Elva Leon Henson Simcox.

A longtime area resident, he was a retired Sheriff for Colorado and a
 retired minister.&nbsp; He served in the United States Army and United 
States Air Force.

He was a member of the Hanston Baptist Church and the VFW, Hanston.

On June 21, 1954, he married Beulah Irene Johnson in Dallas, TX. She survives.

Other survivors include: son, David (Obdulia) Simcox, DeSoto, TX; two
 daughters, Candace &nbsp;(Michael) Antonelli, Hanston, Constance SanMiguel, 
Orange, TX; fourteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel M. Simcox.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Gary J. Mater, 77, passed away in Nov. 22, 2020, at his son’s home in
 Hoisington.&nbsp; He was born Aug. 27, 1943, in Troy, Ohio, to Fred and Rita
 (Fuerst) Mater.&nbsp; Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, 
earning the rank of PFC.

Gary, a lifetime resident of Olmitz, also living in California, New 
Mexico and Arizona, was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, Olmitz.&nbsp; He
 was a truck driver and machinist, working for a broad range of 
industries.&nbsp; Gary led a full life of various interests, including music,
 having played the guitar and dulcimer.

Survivors include one son, Randy Mater and Ashley Walters of 
Hoisington; two brothers, Kenneth J. Mater and wife Nancy of Olathe and 
Dan Mater and wife Renee of Olmitz; sister-in-law, Kim Schulz of 
Linwood; grandchildren, Ava Bray, LaShauna Mickle, Eileah Morris and 
Randon Morris; and great granddaughter, Katerina Chambers.&nbsp; He was 
preceded in passing by his parents, and by his brother, Dave Mater.

Memorial services for Gary will be announced at a later date.&nbsp; There 
will be no visitation or viewing, as cremation has taken place.&nbsp;
