Royalan Elaine Leiker age 89, of Hays, Kansas passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society of Hays.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was born May 15, 1935, in Ellsworth, Kansas to Roy Edward and Evelyn Fern (Mog) Grubb.&nbsp; She married Donald Leiker on April 20, 1954, in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on November 20, 2009. &nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Royalan worked 23 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and retired in 1983.&nbsp; She grew up in Geneseo, Kansas and her family moved to Hays in 1950.&nbsp; She was a 1953 graduate of Hays High School.&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, was a volunteer at the Hays Community Assistance Center, and helped on the funeral dinners at the church.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family and her grandchildrens activities.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She is survived by her children, Derek Leiker and wife, Pam, West Harrison, IN; Monte “Joe” Leiker and wife, Cathy, Shawnee, KS; Krista Gottschalk, Hays, KS; Craig Leiker and wife, Julie, Roswell, GA; &nbsp;her grandchildren, Kinni Piche (Cory); Jared Leiker (Sarah); Caleb Leiker (Laura); Tyler “TJ” Gottschalk (Megan); Luke Gottschalk (Jessica); Katelyn Burkman (Nathan); Amber McGlawn (Tyler); Molly Leiker (Chuck Dibilio); and her 17 great grandchildren.

Wynona “Nona” Kay (Hawthorne) Murray, born November 15, 1953, to L. Howard Hawthorne and Georgine (Ginn) Hawthorne, passed away on April 25, 2024 in Redmond, Washington. She grew up in Little River, Kansas and moved to Hays with her family in 1970, graduating from Hays High School in 1971.

Nona studied nursing at Fort Hays State University and Advanced Practice Nursing Child and Family Mental Health at the University of Kansas. Her long medical career took her to various places throughout Kansas, Ohio, and Washington.

Nona was a patron of the arts and in her younger years enjoyed camping.

On April 21, 1984 she gave birth to the pride and joy of her life her beautiful daughter Kathleen (Kate) Francis Murray.

Nona is survived by her brothers, Steve (Vicki) Hawthorne of Hays, KS, Lee Hawthorne of Hoisington, KS, step daughters Megan (Marcel) Shoemaker of Bella Vista, AR and Julie (Brian) Nelson of Topeka, KS, nieces Skye (Robert) Bare of Pratt, KS, Erin (Dr. Benjamin) Kinderknecht of Maryville, MO, Carly Hawthorne (Jesse Stockwell) of Colorado Springs, CO, and her best friend and roommate of many years, Pamela Wickenhauser of Redmond, WA. She is also survived by her step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, great nieces and nephews and great-great niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Georgine Hawthorne, her daughter Kate Murray and friend Dennis Franz.

Graveside services are Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in Bean Cemetery, Little River, KS.

Wynona “Nona” Kay (Hawthorne) Murray

Robert Duane “R.D” Harmon, formally of Texas, passed away on May 24, 2024, at his home in Plainville, KS, at the age of 73. He was born on July 3, 1950, to Duane and Wilma (Ginther) Harmon in Garden City, Kansas.

R.D. grew up in Logan, KS and graduated from Logan High School in 1968. He later attended and graduated (1972) from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Economics and Marketing degree. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, a student senator, student body president and student body finance chair. After graduating from Kansas State University, he moved to Hays, KS and started a meat packing business, which eventually led him to Alaska. After about a six month stay, he decided to head south to Guadalajara Mexico. On his adventure, R.D. made a few stops along the way. One which included Grants Pass, Oregon where he met Lorrie (Gustafson) Brous. Throughout this union came a step-son and four children: Matthew, Jarrett, Rusty, Laramie, and Rowdy. In September of 1978 they made their home in Logan, KS where R.D. operated Harmon Enterprises, and then eventually moved to the family farm south of Logan to run the day-to-day operations. During that time, R.D. and Lorrie also ran the Trading Post Cafe in Logan, as well as the VFW in Stockton, and then Rowdy’s Bar and Grill in Hill City in 1993.

In 1995, R.D. decided that his dreams were too big for the small-town life, and took to the road for the greater duration of the remainder of his life. He resided in many places throughout the years, marketing his business ventures and start-up ideas. He later ended up in Tyler, Texas where he loved to call home because of the fair weather all year round. When his health took a turn, his children helped move him to Plainville, Kansas.

R.D. always enjoyed hunting, fishing, entertaining and cooking. He was always ready for a good time and that usually included a meal and good company. If you have ever attended a dance or a celebration that was organized by R.D., you knew it was going to be a great time. R.D. also enjoyed raising livestock, and breeding and training horses.

R.D. is survived by his children, Matthew (Mandi) Brous, of Hays, KS, Jarrett (Jacque) Harmon, of Plainville, KS, Russell (Amanda) Harmon, of Hill City, KS, Laramie Harmon, of Hill City, KS, Shane “Rowdy” (Desiree) Harmon, of Hill City, KS; 15 grandchildren; siblings, Cindy (Rex) Hill, of San Antonio, TX, Tam (Marc) Kemper, of Logan, KS, Marla (Bill) Ashmore, of Logan, KS, Chuck (Jody) Harmon, of Garnett, KS, Trina (Antoine Britten) Harmon, of Nashville, TN.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his Uncle Teddy Joe.

A celebration of life service will be held on June 21, 2024, at the Cowboy Junction in Hill City, Kansas. There will be a social hour starting at 5pm and service to follow shortly after.

Terry Marlee (White) Hamit, 73, of Stockton, Kansas gained her wings on June 1, 2024, at Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas. Terry was born April 4, 1951, to Newlin and Bettie (Johnson) White in Colby, Kansas. She attended Colby High School, graduating in 1969.

She married the love of her life, Don Hamit on August 25, 1973. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage together. This marriage brought Marlyn into the Hamit family and in 1974, Judd was born and completed their family.

Terry was active in the community with Sigma Phi ESA, Rooks County Free Fair, and 4-H leader. She was also active in the Kansas Auctioneers Association Auxiliary. She was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Kansas Auctioneers Association. Terry and Don were awarded the Award of Distinction in 2023.

In her spare time, she loved making jewelry, scrapbooking, making individual home crafted cards for birthdays, anniversaries, and just because cards. Terry also loved to take pictures and enter them into the fair. She loved to collect many things. Green depression ware, jewelry, crocks, Native American art and pottery, and so much more.

Terry is preceded in death by her parents, Newlin and Bettie White; in-laws, Marion and Elda Hamit; brother-in-law, Charlie Hamit; son, Judd Stephen Hamit; and brother, Gary White.

Terry is survived by her husband, Don Hamit; daughter, Marlyn and husband Adam Bryant, dog daughter Sophie, dog son Bandit Hamit; grandsons, Clayton and Landon Becker; granddaughters, Morgan Enlow (Dakota) and Aricka Bryant; great-grandson, CJ Enlow. Terry was also a loving great grandma to the fur babies: Duke Becker, Bindi Becker, Stella Becker, and one grand cat: Onxyia Lucy Bryant.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 10:00AM at the Church of Restoration in Stockton and burial to follow at Mt Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, 3-8PM with the family receiving friends 6-7:30PM at the funeral home in Stockton.

Terry Marlee (White) Hamit

Elvin Lee Towery, 73, passed away June 5, 2024 at Salina Regional Hospital, Salina, Kansas.

He was born July 10, 1950 in Norton, the son of Loren Lee and Clara Bardwell Towery. &nbsp;A longtime area resident, he was a MHDDT at Larned State Hospital, where he retired from after 26 ½ years.

Elvin was a welder foreman at New Age Industry from 1976-1988, most recently worked for Corp of Engineers at Kanapolis Lake as a camp custodian. &nbsp;He enjoyed boating, camping, traveling, working on lawn mowers, going to Steak and Taco nights at the American Legion, attending concerts, eagle watching with Mary Ann and loved watching westerns and telling “dad” jokes.

On November 26, 1969 he married MaryAnn Szymanski; she passed away August 31, 2018.

Survivors include; three sons, Scott (Sheyanna) Towery, Larned, Jeff (Sharon) Towery, Larned, David Towery, Almena; a daughter Wendy (Brad) Bagby, Larned; five brothers, Eldon (Diane) Towery, Almena, Dale (Diane) Towery, New York, Mike Towery, McCook, Nebraska, Terry (Brenda) Towery, Kearney, Nebraska and Bobby (Cherie) Towery, Parker, Colorado; three sisters, Patty Walker, Virginia, Cathy Helwick, Hastings, Nebraska and Linda (Cindy) Wilder-Towery, Topeka; Brother in law, Tim (Sandy) Towery, Jefferson City, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by; his parents, his wife MaryAnn Towery, two brothers, Ron Towery and Gary Towery and a granddaughter, Courtney Thorne.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with Bo Rouse presiding. &nbsp;Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 11th at the mortuary, with family present from 4-6 p.m. &nbsp;

Lois Mae (Hansen) Ellis was born August 31st, 1948, in Norton, KS to Earl and Lenora (Robinson) Hansen. Lois passed away June 2, 2024, at the Smith County Memorial Hospital in Smith Center, KS.

She was a certified med aide for many years and worked in several different nursing homes. Lois married Leslie Ellis on June 26, 1971. She was a homemaker and the mother of four children, Lance, Luke, Lyndon and Lescinda.

Her cinnamon rolls were second to none! She was an excellent pastor’s wife, and joined Les in the ministry in Paradise, KS, Reedsport, OR, Lebanon, KS, Tribune, KS and Stockton, KS.

Lois thoroughly enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She loved planting flowers, trees and bushes and enjoyed her current home.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, brother Joe Hansen and brother-in-law Larry Bourelle.

&nbsp;Terrence Joseph "Terry" Kortan, age 76, of Palco, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at Rooks County Hospital. Born on February 22, 1948, in Hays, Kansas, Terry was the only child of Frank and Emma (Brin) Kortan. He graduated from Palco High School in 1969 and married the love of his life, Wanda Keller, on October 25, 1969, at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Terry's life was defined by his dedication to his community and his family. He was a devoted member of St. John's Lutheran Church, serving on the church council, singing in the choir, and teaching Sunday school. His commitment to service extended to the Palco Lions Club, where he was a member for over 50 years, and the North Hampton Township Board, where he served for more than 40 years.

A man of many talents and roles, Terry was a dedicated family man and a passionate farmer. He served as the transportation director and a bus driver for the Palco School District #269. Additionally, he drove activity buses for Fort Hays State University and TMP-Marian, and transported buses across the United States for Gavin Smith Transportation. Known for his kindness and dedication, he was appreciated by many for his habit of picking stickers during football practice, earning him steak suppers and gift certificates from grateful parents and players.

Terry took great pride in his role as the cemetery sexton for Pleasantview Cemetery in Palco, where he was also a trustee. His hobbies included fishing, sketching and drawing, playing pinochle, and flying as a licensed pilot. He was known for his quick wit and enjoyed engaging in conversations on various topics. Above all, Terry cherished his family and delighted in attending his grandchildren's activities.

Terry is survived by his loving wife, Wanda of Palco; his daughter, Michelle Funk-Dowis (Jamie) of Hays, and their children, Madison Funk and Trevor (Abby) Funk; his son, Scott (Tania) Kortan of Silver Lake, KS, and their children, Mallory, Mariah, Ebram, and Mabree; and his daughter, Tracy (Dennis) Dinkel of Palco, and their daughter, Emma. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Kingston and Luna Funk.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Ethan Kortan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at St. John's Lutheran Church, located 7 1/2 miles north of Ellis. Burial will follow in Pleasantview Cemetery in Palco.&nbsp;Visitation will be from 4 PM to 8 PM on Friday, with a prayer service at 7 PM, all at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th Ellis, KS 67637. Saturday visitation will be at the church starting at 9:30 AM until the service time.

Kerri Kristine Batman, 65, passed away June 5, 2024, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas. She was born on April 25, 1959, in Garden City, Kansas, to James and Martha (Loucks) Garetson. On July 20, 1985, she married Eric Batman in Dodge City, Kansas.

A Copeland High School graduate of 1977 and Fort Hays State University graduate of 1981, Kerri started her teaching career at Pawnee Heights from 1981 to 1985. She then moved to Great Bend and was a Family and Consumer Science teacher at Great Bend High School until her retirement in May 2017. Being the dedicated teacher she was, Kerri returned to the teaching role twice before enjoying full-time retirement.

Kerri enjoyed sewing, baking, and cooking - including for the hunters at the lodge. She loved to mow and do yard work. Kerri loved traveling, whether to western Kansas to see family or to the family cabin in Colorado to enjoy coffee, puzzles, and the mountain wild flowers. She adored spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband Eric, of the home; two sons, Jordan Batman and wife Alyx of Great Bend, and Cale Batman of Great Bend; two grandchildren, Rowyn Christina Batman and Rydge Cain Batman; mother, Martha Garetson of Montezuma; brother, Jesse Garetson and wife, Jerra; five sisters, Chloe Dohrmann and husband Mike, Debbie Henley and husband Richard, Melanie Penner and husband Ron, Andrea Cearley and husband Mike, and Shelly Baldwin and husband Sid; mother-in-law, Marilyn Batman of Great Bend; and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Janet Marcia Huerta, aged 34, passed away on June 1, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas, after a life marked by courage, keen analysis, and a passion for adventure. Born on July 14, 1989, in Scott City, Kansas, the daughter of Basilio and Maria Concepcion (Macias) Huerta.

Since childhood, Janet was an exemplary and outstanding student, sister, and daughter, driven by a mission to make her family proud with the purpose of one day being able to take care and support herself and them. Growing up, Janet took pleasure in establishing bonds with her family and friends with common interests and hobbies. As she grew older, her love for spending quality time and providing companionship to her family never faltered. Janet had a profound love for education, outdoors, music, and fashion. She always sought opportunities to learn, travel, play games and pickup hobbies; like swimming, volleyball, pickleball, dancing, and karaoke with those that mattered most to her. Her family was everything and more.

Janet's high school years were marked by her involvement in the debate team, a formative experience that sharpened her argumentative skills and fostered a deep respect for the power of persuasive communication. This experience would later serve her well in both her professional and personal life, enabling her to articulate her thoughts with clarity and conviction. Janet's educational journey was as impressive as it was inspiring. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree from Wichita State University, where she honed her intellectual skills and cultivated a love for learning that would last a lifetime. Professionally, Janet dedicated herself to several different roles where she provided mentorship and support as an Immigration Paralegal, an Educational Talent Search Advisor, and a Software Support Specialist in the Heavy Bulk Materials Industry. Her analytical mind and attention to detail were assets that made her a valued colleague and a trusted mentor to many who had the pleasure of working alongside her. Traveling was another of Janet's passions, as she sought to explore new horizons and immerse herself in diverse cultures, always eager to embark on her next adventure.

Janet’s independent and courageous personality proved to be a blessing in mentoring and guiding her and her family through their most trying and challenging moments in life. Hershel “Buddy” Lewis, age 89, died Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal. He was born April 3, 1935, at the family farm in Morton County, Kansas, the son of Ercel Porter and Edith Mae (Raine) Lewis.

Buddy grew up in Morton County. He joined the United States Air Force in 1952 and served four years in the Air Borne Strategic Air Command. After he was honorably discharged, he attended Fort Hays State University for three semesters. He then returned to Morton County and married Barbara Leaton on August 10, 1958, in Elkhart. He was a farmer and rancher, crop adjuster for Wells Fargo for numerous years, and worked on oil rigs for many years. Buddy held private, commercial, and multi-engine pilot licenses and enjoyed flying, golfing, fishing, tinkering around on the farm, and going to the coffee shop to meet up with friends. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Barbara, of their home; sons, Kyle Lewis and wife, Dayna, of St. George, Utah, and Kenneth Lewis and wife, Sunee, of Leawood, Kansas; four grandchildren, Paul Lewis, Mark Lewis, Katelyn Lewis, and Margo Lewis; and one great-grandchild, Waylon Lewis.

Buddy is preceded in death by his parents, and five sisters, VaLera Young, Anna Bea Pressee, June Simmons, Cora Mae Juarsevich, and Gloria Lawrence.

Ruth graduated from Grant County Rural High School and then attended Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. She married Kenneth L. Siebert on September 4, 1955, in Ulysses. Ruth worked for Dr. Palmer and Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in medical records, the Wagon Bed Motel, and R&amp;R Specialties, and was the secretary of the Mennonite Brethren Church. While her family was growing up, she was a sewing leader for the Cloverleaf and Full of Pep 4-H Clubs and served as a Girl Scout leader. Ruth enjoyed playing cards, loved to sew and made blankets for all her grandkids. She also found time to oil paint, bowl, and most of all enjoyed time spent with her family.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Kenneth, of their home; son, Chris Siebert and Alecia of Ulysses; daughters, Cheryl Denning and husband, Dan, of Delphos, Brenda Siebert and husband, Richard Siegenthaler, of Wichita, Sonya McCauley and Whitey Summers of Ulysses, and Paula Ybarra and Brandon Phelps of Ulysses; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, 33 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth O. Siebert

Leonard Rempel Goossen began his sojourn of life at Morris, Manitoba. He was born on March 6, 1948, following the birth of his twin brother. His parents were Ben and Clara Rempel Goossen. His final breath and peaceful departure, surrounded by family, was at Western Prairie Senior Living on June 3, 2024. His passing was a result of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. He was seventy-six.

Leonard’s school and teenage years were marked with happiness. He received his eight years of formal education at Clover Plains School, having the same teacher for all eight years. A sharp memory served him well in recounting his adventurous childhood.

Upon hearing the call of the Lord, Leonard surrendered his will and by faith accepted Christ as his Savior. Peace with God was always his most guarded possession. He was baptized by his Uncle Walter Goossen on February 15, 1960, into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite.

He found life’s companion in Bertha Toews. On October 18, 1970, they were united in marriage by Minister Cecil Unruh at Copeland, Ks. Their special day was shared with Leonard’s twin brother and Bertha’s sister. In June of 1974, as a young married couple dad and mom left Rosenort, Manitoba and moved to Ulysses, KS. Six children were born to this union. Our parents’ home was orderly and well structured. Dad had a keen perception of the needs of his children and grandchildren. The tender feelings he had for us was a reflection of his mellow heart. The most tragic event of our parent’s lives was the death of our sister, Marita in 1996. Their married life spanned fifty-three years.

Our father’s enthusiasm for watchmaking began as a teenager. He completed a course of study in watchmaking when he was nineteen, enabling him to make clock and watch repair the highlight of his career. Also sowing wheat in the fall of the year and the subsequent harvest reflected his love of nature.

Minister L. John Becker ordained our father into the deaconry in 1989. His deaconry path was as varied as it was fulfilling. Serving in the community, in the home congregation, or on conference boards showcased his kindness and hospitality. He shared with many life’s tools of logic. He was equally quick with a witty remark or lend an ear and give thoughtful advice. His love for people was foundational and the cornerstone for his years of unselfish service.

“The greatest gift we ever had came from God; we call him Dad.” His physical body is no longer ticking, but always a chime will ring in our hearts.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Bertha of their home; sons, Timothy and wife, Lucinda Goossen of Ronan, Montana, Warren and wife, Melanie Goossen, Lonnie and wife, Rebekah Goossen; daughters, Janell and husband, Verle Koehn, Loretta and husband, Todd Nichols, all of Ulysses; twin brother, Lloyd Goossen of Greensburg; brothers, Alvin Goossen and LeRoy Goossen; and sister, Ileen Peters all of Rosenort, Manitoba, Canada; 22 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Joshua James Stegman, 49, of Rockwall, Texas, passed away on May 25th. He was the son of Tony and Juanita Stegman, of Walker, Kansas. He was the oldest of three children. Joshua joined the United States Navy immediately after graduating from Victoria High School and traveled the world aboard the USS Seattle AOE-3. After his time in the Navy, Josh worked as lead service technician for Clayton Industries for over 26 years. He made lasting friendships with colleagues and customers alike. He made a lasting impact on everyone he met.

In 2007, Josh married the love of his life, Stacie, and together they raised their children, Zachary and Mackenzie. He was a wonderful father and grandfather to his granddaughter, Aubrey Grace. She lovingly called him Grumps. Josh loved spending time with his family, taking cruises with Stacie, swimming in his pool, and riding his beloved motorcycle. He will be forever missed by his parents, Tony and Juanita (Walker), his sister, Sarah (Hays), and his brother Jeremiah and wife Michelle (Wheatland, WY).

Funeral Services were held in Keller, TX on June 1. A Celebration of Life will be held in Hays at a later date for those who were unable to attend the funeral.

Gracelleen Opal “Grace” Wertenberger, 76, Hays, died Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at her home.

She was born July 4, 1947 in Ottawa, the daughter of James Ernest and Betty Jean (Caleb) Hollon. Grace grew up in eastern Kansas, graduated from cosmetology school, and for 20 years was a hairstylist in Colby. She was also a daycare provider for ten years, opening her heart and home to many children. On January 20, 2000 she was united in marriage to Donald Alan Wertenberger in Hays, and he preceded her in death on October 28, 2011. Grace was an avid and talented quilter.

Survivors include her three sons, David Hamilton and wife Anji of Norton, Daniel Wertenberger and wife Sara of Hays, and Caleb Wertenberger of Ellis, three daughters, Tamera Svanes and husband Dana of Kintyre, ND, Robin Lujan and husband Casey of Holcomb, and Nancy Daniel and husband Bill of Elizabeth, CO, a sister, Clio Elrod and husband Roger of Pomona, 17 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald, two brothers, James and Richard Hollon, a sister, Patricia Markley, a granddaughter, Robin Colleen Hamilton, and a great granddaughter, Stormi Rose Isakson.

On May 31, 2024, the world lost a beloved soul with the passing of Jodie Fisher. Jodie was born on January 12, 1965, in Hays, Kansas, to Fred and Carol (Dechant) Werth where she spent her formative years surrounded by love and laughter.&nbsp;Jodie's life was a tapestry of diverse passions and endeavors. As a small business owner, she ran a successful cleaning service and craft store, leaving an indelible mark on her community. Her knack for collecting carnival glass showcased her appreciation for beauty in the simplest of things.&nbsp;Beyond her entrepreneurial spirit, Jodie was renowned for her culinary skills. Her traditional German recipes, particularly the German Wedding Soup and Galuskies, were a source of joy for her family and friends. Cooking brought her immense happiness, evident in the smiles her dishes brought to those around her.&nbsp;Nature held a special place in Jodie's heart; she found solace in tending to her garden and nurturing colorful blooms. Her garden was not just a collection of plants but a haven of tranquility and peace—a reflection of her nurturing personality.&nbsp;Jodie's home in Wentzville, Missouri was a sanctuary not only for flowers but also for hummingbirds. With 14 hummingbird feeders adorning her yard, she welcomed these delicate creatures with open arms and marveled at their beauty.&nbsp;As a pet parent to Yorkshire Terriers and Golden Retrievers, Jodie displayed unwavering love and care for her fur babies. The bond she shared with them was one of unconditional love and companionship—a testament to her kind and gentle nature.&nbsp;In the hearts of those who survive Jodie resides an eternal legacy of love and memories. She is survived by her loving husband Kenneth Fisher, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Her knack for collecting carnival glass showcased her appreciation for beauty in the simplest of things.&nbsp;Beyond her entrepreneurial spirit, Jodie was renowned for her culinary skills. Her traditional German recipes, particularly the German Wedding Soup and Galuskies, were a source of joy for her family and friends. Cooking brought her immense happiness, evident in the smiles her dishes brought to those around her.&nbsp;Nature held a special place in Jodie's heart; she found solace in tending to her garden and nurturing colorful blooms. Her garden was not just a collection of plants but a haven of tranquility and peace—a reflection of her nurturing personality.&nbsp;Jodie's home in Wentzville, Missouri was a sanctuary not only for flowers but also for hummingbirds. With 14 hummingbird feeders adorning her yard, she welcomed these delicate creatures with open arms and marveled at their beauty.&nbsp;As a pet parent to Yorkshire Terriers and Golden Retrievers, Jodie displayed unwavering love and care for her fur babies. The bond she shared with them was one of unconditional love and companionship—a testament to her kind and gentle nature.&nbsp;In the hearts of those who survive Jodie resides an eternal legacy of love and memories. She is survived by her loving husband Kenneth Fisher, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Hull, age 51 years, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away on Friday morning, May 31, 2024 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; Jason was born on December 3, 1972 at Dodge City, Kansas and his parents were Patrick Clark and Carole S. (Koehn) Hull. The family moved to Great Bend, where Jason lived nearly his entire life. He worked in the Oilfield most of his adult life, having worked for Klima Well Service of Great Bend about 15 years as well as other oilfield companies. Trixie Lu Carney (Underhill)

Charles Leslie Blau, age 91 passed away on Sunday, June 2nd, 2024, at the Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, KS. Some knew him as Charles or Chuck, but he was known as Charlie to his beloved community.&nbsp;

Charlie was born October 5th, 1932, at the home of his Uncle Don and Aunt Annie in Russell Springs, KS; the last son of Louie and Julia (Rubottom) Blau. He grew up in southern Logan County where the Blau families homesteaded in 1885. Charles grew up with Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and four brothers. He helped with the farming and cattle from the time he was a small boy. Charles attended grade school at the Laurel School affectionately known as the “Blau School.” He went to high school in Leoti and graduated in 1950. He started farming for himself soon after he graduated.

On December 29th, 1959, he married Joyce Adele (Wonsetler) at the First Baptist Church in Leoti. They made their first home in Logan County near the Blau Ranch, starting their lives together farming and raising cattle. They later moved to the Wichita County farm where they shared 53 years of marriage before Joyce passed in 2013. Together they raised four children. Charlie was active in his community as a 4-H leader, Baptist Youth Fellowship leader, bus driver, deacon, and trustee for the First Baptist Church. He served his community as a board member for Camp Christy, the senior center, and many volunteer hours during the county fair. He always made time to visit with those in the nursing home and was a big fan of the Wichita County Athletic teams cheering them on from his seat at the top of the bleachers. He dearly enjoyed John Wayne movies, his Wednesday morning coffee group, and playing pitch down at the senior center.

Charlie will be fondly remembered for his faith in God, his genuine kindness, and his delightful sense of humor. We will miss his great stories and those one-liners that always made us laugh. Charles is survived by his daughter Charla (Ronald) Dunn of El Dorado, KS, son Steven (Lisa) Blau of Wichita, KS, daughter Cynthia (Mike) Mills of Iliff, CO, and daughter Trisha Blau of Fayetteville, AR. His pride and joy; Granddaughters Charisse Riddle, Julia Riddle, Kirsten Blau (engaged to August Fielding), Leslie Riddle, Kylee Blau, Sienna Dunn, grandson Garrett Mills, and great-grandson Henry Fielding, sister-in-law Mary Cannady, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Carl and Earl Wonsetler, brothers Martin (Albertine), Hale (Irene), Fritz (Marilla), and John (Joyce) Blau.

Harry Zachman, age 84 of Wichita, Kansas passed away Saturday June 1, 2024. He was born March 31, 1940, in Ellis County Kansas to John J. and Mary (Armbrister) Zachman.

He is survived by sisters: Helen Deines of Wakeeney, KS; Martha Massier of Ellis, KS; sister-in-law: Adabelle Zachman; and brother-in-law: Milton Dietz.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Ernest Zachman, Oscar Zachman, Raymond Zachman and infant brother Wayne Zachman, and Sisters: Dorthy Dietz, Frieda Allphin and Anna Hamburg.

Russell D. “Speedy” Hoberecht, a longtime resident of Great Bend, peacefully went to be with his heavenly Father on June 3, 2024. Russell was born on Oct. 4, 1931, in Newton, son of William Delmer and Gladys Marie (Howard) Hoberecht. He married Wanda Joyce Kirkman Sept. 20, 1953, in Great Bend. She survives.

Russell enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Korean War, earning the rank of Sergeant. He co-owned and operated Ace Pipe Pulling. He was then employed with Koch Industries as a Gauger until his retirement. Russell was a faithful member of First Christian Church. He had a photographer’s talent and could build anything from birdhouses to furniture.

Russell is survived by his wife of 70 years; sons, Mark Hoberecht (Cheryl) of Great Bend, Kirk Hoberecht of Salida, Colo.; daughter, Lisa Kjellberg of Hutchinson; brother, Leland Hoberecht of Newton; sister, Thelma Buettgenbach (Sol) of Great Bend, grandchildren; Vanessa Reece (Travis), Jace Hoberecht (Mary Kate), Kristen Hoberecht, Cassie Hoberecht, Nicholas Kjellberg, Andrew Kjellberg; great grandchildren, Skylar Bowers, Maddie Bowers, Atlas Reece, and Larke Reece.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Hoberecht; sister, Glenna Bone; son in law, Stanley Kjellberg.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, June 11, 2024, 10:30 a.m. at First Christian Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Joseph Smeragliuolo presiding.
