Antonia Razo, 66, passed away January 18, 2021, at Hays Medical 
Center, Hays.&nbsp; She was born December 17, 1954, in Manuel Doblado, GTO, 
Mexico, to Jose Guadalupe Manriquez Lopez and Enedina (Cisneros). 
Antonia married Salvador Razo in 1972, in Manuel Doblado, GTO, Mexico.

Antonia Razo, a homemaker, was a resident of Great Bend since 2014 
coming from Blackfoot, Idaho.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was a member of Prince of Peace 
Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Survivors include husband, Salvador Razo, of the home; two sons, Jose
 Razo of Joplin, Mo. and Rodrigo "Rigo" Razo of Great Bend; two 
daughters, Martha Razo of Great Bend and Veronica Razo of Great Bend; 13
 grandchildren; and many brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces and 
Godchildren. Antonia was preceded in death by one son, Salvador Razo, 
Jr.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2021,
 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend.&nbsp; Vigil and Rosary will
 be 7:00 pm Sunday, January 17, at Bryant Funeral Home.&nbsp; Interment will 
follow at Great Bend Cemetery North, Great Bend.&nbsp; Visitation will be

Betty Jean Schmidt, 99, passed away January 18, 2021, at Brookdale 
Senior Living, Great Bend. She was born July 31, 1921, in Larned, Kansas
 to Virgil &amp; Eula (Edwards) Standish. She married Jack E. Schmidt 
September 22, 1940 in Larned.&nbsp; He died June 19, 2001.

A Great Bend resident, Betty was a homemaker. She was a member of the
 First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post #180 Auxiliary, V.F.W. 
Post #3111 Auxiliary. She enjoyed golfing with Jack at Lake Barton Golf 
Course, the Saturday night dances at the Legion and playing bridge.

Survivors include, two sons, Robert Schmidt and wife Karen of 
Chandler, Ariz., and Douglas Schmidt and significant other Debbie 
Mrozinski of Manitowoc, Wis.; and a granddaughter, Christy Goddard and 
husband Darrell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Schmidt;
 and two brothers, Jack Standish, and Virgil Standish, Jr.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place and services
 will be announced at a later date. Memorials have been designated to 
the Alzheimer’s Foundation, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

The family would also like to extend a special Thank You to the

 to our mother.

Betty Jean Schmidt

George "Dick" Hess, 92, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 16, 2021, at McPherson Hospital. Dick was an oil producer and retired president of Hess Oil Co., McPherson.

Dick was born December 19, 1928, in Blackwell, OK, the son of George Reiser and Evaline (Farrah) Hess.&nbsp; Dick grew up in the oil fields of McPherson County, working alongside his parents at their country store between Canton and Galva.&nbsp; As his father gradually shifted his focus from the store to oil production, Dick learned the business that would eventually become his own livelihood.

Dick graduated from McPherson High School in 1946 and attended the University of Kansas and McPherson College.&nbsp; He served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed at Brize Norton Air Base in England.

On May 6, 1950, Dick was united in marriage to Lou Ann Dyck.&nbsp; She died August 4, 1981.&nbsp; On November 6, 1982, he married Beverly Ann (Reinhardt) Stockham.

Dick was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.&nbsp; He was also an avid supporter of the arts, the McPherson Museum, and McPherson parks. He and Beverly were named the Kansas Governor’s Arts Awards Art Patrons in 2008.

His past involvements include Sunday school teacher, Boy Scout leader, Church choir member, the former Farmer's State Bank of Canton, KS board member, the former Wheatland Bank of Goessel, KS founder and board chair, McPherson Public Library board member, Wichita Symphony Orchestra board member, and McPherson College board member.

Survivors include: his wife, Beverly of the home; children, Arnold (Patricia) Hess of Ransom, KS, Bryan (Janette) Hess of McPherson, KS, Charlene Hess-Anspaugh (Doug Anspaugh) of St. George, KS, Steve (Patsy) Stockham of Salina, KS, and Kris (Jeff) Dickinson of Parker, CO; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Connie Hess of McPherson, KS; brother-in-law and wife, Bob and Doris Reinhardt of Plano, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, infant son, Joel, and brother, James H. Hess.

A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021, at McPherson Cemetery with Rev. Tim Leaf officiating.

Loretta P. Johnson, "Lory Williams," 73, died on Sunday, January 17, 
2021, a Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born on July 22, 1947 
at Las Animas, Colorado the daughter of Lawrence &amp; Etta (Wertz) 
Clayton. 
Loretta graduated from McClave High School in McClave, Colorado. She had
 also attended the Kansas City School of Music and the Cliff Mann 
Accordion School in Kansas City. She was part of an Accordion Group that
 played for Eleanor Roosevelt. 
After graduating high school, she married Don Morlan. To this union was 
born two children, Lorie and Barrett. She later married Roy L. Johnson 
on October 30, 1987 at Little Rock, Arkansas. 
Known by her radio name, Lory Williams, she started her radio 
broadcasting career in Lamar, Colorado. She also worked in Boonville, 
Missouri; Oberlin, Kansas; Hays, Kansas; and Pueblo, Colorado. In 1986 
she moved to Garden City and was the Farm Director and Farm Broadcaster 
for KBUF and KKJQ. 
She faithfully attended The Church of The Brethren in Garden City. She 
was a member of the National Association of Farm Broadcasters. She 
received many honors and awards from the NAFB thru the years. She loved 
and lived the rural life and was involved in rodeos, saddle club events,
 4-H, Beef Empire Days. She served as a Judge at the Kansas Rodeo Queen 
Pageant for many years. She was heavily involved in her favorite 
charity, Miles of Smiles, which is a therapeutic riding program located 
in Garden City. In her earlier years she also ran 10K and 5K runs. 
She is survived by her Husband- Roy Johnson, Daughter- Lorie Westbrook, 
Son-Barrett Morlan, both of Burkburnett, Texas, Mother- Etta Clayton of 
Hasty, Colorado; 3 Sisters- Cheryl (Lee) Baldwin of Quinter, Vicki 
(Wayne) Burgess of Hasty, Colorado and Valerie (Tim) Noecker of McClave,
 Colorado; 5 Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded 
in death by her Father. 
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM(CST) Thursday at Church of The 
Brethren in Garden City with Rev. Bob Bates and Von Hunn officiating. 
Graveside Service will be at 3:00 PM (MT) at McClave Cemetery in

Mary Ann Goetz, age 68, former Hays resident died Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, in Aurora, Colo.

She was born April 18, 1952 in Kansas to Julius Francis and Mary Kay (VonFeldt) Goetz.

She worked in accounts payable, attended Hays High School, and raised her family in Colorado.

Survivors include her children, Michael Chand and wife, Tea; Ryan Chand; Sonia Kilmer and husband, Willey; 12 grandchildren, Jordan Chand; Justin Chand; Dante Chand; Kayla Chand; David Chand; Karly Chand; Derek Chand; Rylee Chand; Dylan Kilmer; Alyssa Kilmer; Ashley Kilmer; Brianna Kilmer; and her great-nephew, James Ray Perry, she raised from birth and was his legal guardian.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Francis Goetz, and her former husband, Raymond G. Chand.

A memorial service and inurnment will be held at a later date at Saint Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kan.

Russell D. Phalen, 93, of Osborne, KS, died Saturday, January 2, at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital of Osborne, KS.

Russell was born in Rich Hill, MO on March 6, 1927. &nbsp;He was the son of the late Florence Ayers and Delbert Phalen.

He served in the U. S. Navy as a Seaman 1st Class in WW II. &nbsp;Russ was
 a mail route carrier for the U. S. Postal Service in Osborne, KS. &nbsp;He 
retired in 1992.

Russ is survived by a son, Ralph (Marilyn) Phalen, of Hoover, AL. &nbsp;He
 is also survived by 1 grandchild &amp; 5 great-grandchildren.

Russ was preceded in death by his wife, Irene in 2009 and a son Randall, in 1974.

 was born October 29, 1940, to Paul and Mary (Luea) Hays, Kansas.

Terry became a CPA in 1968 and was a 
member of the American Institute, DC, Maryland and Kansas Society of 
CPA'S.&nbsp; He maintained an office in DC then in Bethesda Maryland before 
relocating to Ellis where he opened an office and worked until he 
retired to Hilton Head South Carolina.&nbsp; He returned to Ellis and 
continued to farm! He was a farmer at heart. &nbsp;He had worked in a camera 
store and enjoyed singing.&nbsp; He was in the Air Force Reserves for ten 
years, member of Rock Creek K of C, Bethesda Rotary and Yakima Park 
Singers.

He is survived by his brother Lavern (Margo), Springfield, MO and multiple nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a sister, Arlene.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, 
Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis, 
interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ellis with military

Douglas
 A. Hanson, age 73, entered into rest on Friday, January 15, 2021 at his
 residence in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born February 12, 1947 in 
Concordia, Kansas, the son of Dean A. and Dorothy A. (Schroth) Hanson.

He was a 1965 graduate of Concordia High School and attended Ft. Hays State University for 2 years.

Douglas was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1966-1968.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged.

In
 September of 1968, he married Kathleen Schmidt in Hays, Kansas, and to 
this marriage two children were born, Derek and Tricia.

Douglas
 was a project superintendent for 33 years working all over the United 
States working in every state except, Alaska, Hawaii, and Idaho.&nbsp; He 
worked on many projects including, Hale Library, KSU Campus, Union 
Station in Washington, DC, CBS Studio, LA, CA., also Greensburg, KS 
after the Tornado Storm, He was project manager for AMC Theaters 
overseeing 200 units in 2 years.&nbsp; Douglas enjoyed the comradery and 
going to Sturgis, SD for the Annual Motorcycle Rally.

 is survived by his two children, Tricia &amp; husband Pat Corcoran, 
grandson Patrick, grandson Dylan, and granddaughter Abby, son, Derek 
Hanson, granddaughter Madalyn, great-granddaughter, Lilliana, grandsons,
 Izaevion &amp; Donovan, sister, Debra Hiett, Manhattan, brother, Dirk 
&amp; wife Karen, of Olathe, &nbsp;brother, Drew &amp; wife Brenda, of 
Wichita, brother, Dane &amp; wife Brenda, of Jamestown, many nieces and

Douglas A. Hanson

Linda Marlene Legg, 73, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 14, 2021. Marlene was born November 24, 1947, in Garden City, to Marvin &amp; Ella Clark.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She attended grade school at White Mound and Theoni schools in rural Finney County. Marlene, affectionately known as Marty, then attended Cimarron High School, followed by Garden City Community College.&nbsp; Marlene married George Legg on June 5, 1966 in Cimarron.&nbsp; She and George lived their entire married lives in Gray and Finney Counties.&nbsp; Over the years, Marlene worked in many capacities while being employed at Theoni School.&nbsp; She was also the secretary/office manager of Cimarron Dairy, CAG Dairy, and Spandet Dairy. In addition, the Legg family owned and operated a dirt construction business for several years. Marlene recently retired in the fall of 2020.&nbsp; Marlene had a love beyond measure for her family and friends, near and far.&nbsp; Some of her most treasured memories were time spent with her brothers and sister, children, and grandchildren, enjoying many family reunions, activities, trips, programs, and sporting events.

Survivors include one sister, Shirley Poppe and husband Clyde, Montezuma; one brother, Curtis Clark and wife Waneen, Cimarron; her son, Clark Legg and wife Ruth, Kalvesta; two daughters, Janene Legg, Kalvesta, and Jaymie Ruder and husband Brian, Hays; one daughter-in-law, Stephanie ReQua and husband Nathan, Sedgwick; 17 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; Marlene was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Clint Legg; her parents; and two brothers Gary Clark and Kelly Clark.

Nancy Ann Long, 66, died Friday, January 1, 2021, in Sioux Falls, South 
Dakota. She was born July 23, 1954, in Dodge City, Kansas the daughter 
of Edward &amp; Martha (Marquardt) Frank. 
 Nancy lived in Liberal, Kansas, with her family where she attended 
Liberal schools. After the 8th grade, they moved to Garden City where 
Nancy attended high school and graduated from Garden City High School in
 1972. On June 9, 1973, she married Randy Carroll in Garden City, 
Kansas. Randy died on June 19, 1999. Nancy later married Brian D. Long
 on May 5, 2012. They continued to live in Garden City until 2014. 
Since 2014, they have lived in both Garden City and Platte, South 
Dakota. Nancy worked most of her life as a bookkeeper for various 
companies in Garden City. Nancy loved the outdoors, fishing, and going 
shopping with her daughter. 
 Survivors include her husband Brian D. Long of the home; three 
children Jason Carroll, Bradley &amp; wife Kelly Carroll, and Jennifer 
Carroll all of Platte, South Dakota; three step-children Tina M. &amp; 
husband John Brouder of St. Peters, Missouri, Shelly Long of St. Peters,
 Missouri, and Tim &amp; wife Tiffany Long of Garden City, Kansas; her 
mother Martha Frank of Chandler, Arizona; two brothers Mike &amp; wife 
Karen Frank of Chandler, Arizona and Tim Frank of Ness City, Kansas; ten
 grandchildren; and four great-grandchidlren. Nancy is preceded in 
death by her first husband Randy; her father Edward Frank; and a 
daughter-in-law Tracy Frank.

Susan “Sue” J. Steiner, 70, passed away January 17, 2021, at Great 
Bend Health &amp; Rehab. She was born August 26, 1950, in Ellsworth to 
Clayton C. &amp; Barbara J. (Foote) Steiner. She lived the first three 
years of her life in Blackwolf, Kan.

After 1953, she was a resident of Great Bend. She was a member of 
Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend, and
 was a member of the Altar Society.

She was a proud graduate of Great Bend High School in 1969. She was a
 member of the pep club and one of their first mainstream graduates of 
the special education program at GBHS. She loved Friday night GBHS 
football for many years and rarely missed a game. After she graduated 
from high school, she worked for Sunflower Diversified Services and was 
one of their original clients. Susan enjoyed working for the day 
services. She was with Sunflower Diversified until circumstances caused 
her to reside at Great Bend Health &amp; Rehab for the past 10 years. 
Susan and her family really appreciated the care and concern she 
received from the staff at Great Bend Health &amp; Rehab.

She became an annual summer camper at White Memorial Camp and Camp 
Aldrich. She developed a love and passion for horses. These camps 
allowed her to ride and be around them. She accumulated an extensive 
collection of horse memorabilia from around the world. She loved little 
children and was very proud holding her nieces and nephews as infants.

Survivors include, her mother, Barbara Steiner; a brother, Dan 
Steiner and wife Cathy of Stilwell; a sister, Laurie Cooke and husband 
Stacey of Junction City; many aunts and uncles; four nieces and their 
families, Tara Terella (Adam) of Aurora, Colo., Bethany Cooke (Adam) of 
Junction City, Katie Kidwell (fiancé Justin Lytle) of Junction City, and
 Briana Talley (Ken) of Wichita; two nephews, Ryan Steiner of Overland 
Park, and Clint Steiner (Christi) of Overland Park; her great nieces and
 nephews, Carson, Addison, Grace, Colin, Cooper, Ava, Alyssa, Jack, 
Jameson, Callen, Cara, Lacey, Miles, Aaron, Tatum, Kenny, and Theodore. 
She was preceded in death by her father, Clayton Steiner; a brother, 
James Steiner; her grandparents, Thomas and Barbara Foote, and Joseph 
and Doris Steiner; many aunts and uncles; a nephew, Clayton Cooke; and a
 great niece, Kylie Ann Steiner.

Susan 'Sue' J. Steiner

Robert Ward Blecha was born on May 13, 1969 in Belleville, Kansas, the son of Robert E. &amp; Marilyn S. (Johnson) Blecha. Robert grew up in Belleville and Hays, graduating from Hays High School in 1987. Following high school, Robert attended and graduated from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Academy in Hutchinson.

Robert worked as a sheriff’s deputy in Norton County and Phillips County, and later he worked in construction and carpentry.

He was married to Pookie Khattiwong on September 28, 2009, in Cumming, Georgia.

Robert passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family, near Garfield, Kansas, on January 14, 2021, at the age of 51 years, 8 months and 1 day.

He is preceded in death by his mother; grandparents; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Robert will be forever remembered and greatly missed by his wife Pookie of Garfield, Kansas; son Ryan Blecha and wife Mackenzie of Hays, Kansas; son Robert Charles Blecha and fiancée Tabetha of Beaver City, Nebraska; son Rhett D. Blecha and wife Brooke of Beaver City, Nebraska; daughter Ricole Blecha of Lincoln, Nebraska; son Reese Blecha and daughter Raelea Blecha of Long Island, Kansas; daughter Natasha Blecha of Garfield, Kansas; and his granddaughters, Gentry and Charlie Jo Blecha of Hays, Kansas.

He is also survived by father Robert E. Blecha of Hays, Kansas; brothers and sisters: Rodney Blecha and wife Kathy of Lenexa, Kansas; Rochelle Massengale and husband Rich of Shiloh, Illinois; Randy Blecha of O’Fallon, Illinois; and Robyn Rogers of Olathe, Kansas; a large extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends.

Robert’s wishes were to be cremated with a private, family service, to be held at Tabor Cemetery, rural Munden, Kansas, in March 2021.

Howard Craig of Kinsley, passed away at his home with his family, Jan. 14, 2021 at the age of 84.

He was born in Murdo, S.D., March 5, 1936, the son of Sanford and Jenny (Styles) Craig. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Sanford JR and Darold Craig.

Howard is survived by his wife, Evalina (Delander) Craig, three children, Sheryl Hutcherson, Sandia Park, N.M., son, Merle Craig, Towanda, and Darla (Keith) Van Doren, St. John, Kan.&nbsp; Eight grandchildren, Amanda Craig, (Chris Spurgeon), Wichita, Seth Craig, Wichita, Lauren Sandoval (Adam), Sandia Park, N.M., Callie duPlessis, Mesa, Ariz., Joelle duPlessis, San Francisco, Calif., Jesse Long, (Skye), Offerle, Kyle Van Doren,(Suzette) St John, Kan.,&nbsp; Kimberly Lott (James), Alva, Okla. Five great-grand children, and three nieces and one nephew.

Howard joined the Navy in 1954 and spent most of his time in Newfoundland. He was a member of the crash crew saving lives when a plane crashed or landed in the ocean, in addition to fueling planes. He was discharged in 1958 and then married Evalina Delander in Kinsley. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. &nbsp;

He was a member of the Garfield Methodist Church, Garfield, Kan., Over 50's Club of Garfield and past treasurer of Kinsley township.

Howard spent most of his life farming along with working in construction as well as a machinist at Cessna in Hutchinson. He worked full time and farmed in the evenings and weekends. His great loves were his cattle and his dogs, playing cards with his friends and spending time with his grandchildren. Howard will be remembered as a quiet hard-working man who loved his family. He had a quick wit with a dry sense of humor and will be missed terribly.

Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, is in charge of arrangements. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

Victor Fisher, of Hays, Kansas, age 95, passed away on Saturday, January 9th, 2021, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born December 17, 1925, in Hyacinth, Kansas.&nbsp; He graduated from Grosser School.&nbsp; He married Lillian Schmeidler on October 12, 1949, they recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.

Victor was a lifelong resident of Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Operations from 1944 to 1946.&nbsp; When he returned home he went to work for Eddie Benoit Construction, and then as a carpenter for Bieker and Associates.&nbsp; He was a self-employed finish carpenter in the Hays area, building many homes, doing finish work and cabinetry.&nbsp; He worked at High Quality Low Cost gas station at 17th and Main.&nbsp; After retirement he worked at Dillons for 20 years.&nbsp; He loved gardening, playing cards, bowling, good conversation, listening to polka music, old television programs, watching the CHIEFS win their games.&nbsp; He also loved telling stories of the mischief he and his siblings got into while growing up.&nbsp; He loved German food and a good pickle pimento sandwich.&nbsp; He will be missed.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Fisher of the home, seven sons, Jerome of Ellis, Ernest (Mary Beth), Norman, Stephen (Vickie) all of Hays, Aloysius (Karen) of Oak Harbor, WA; William (Angela) of Holcomb, KS; and Craig of Castle Pines, Colorado; four daughters, Cecilia Heikkila of Great Bend, Joan (Kent) Ficken, Christine (Kevin) Holzmeister and Theresa Fisher all of Hays; one sister, Dolores (Virgil) Pfannenstiel of Antonino; sisters in law Josephine Fisher and Diane Fisher, both of Hays; as well as 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Zacheus Fisher, mother, Monica Rupp Fisher; brothers, Edwin, Alvin (Anna Mary), Ralph, Francis, Cyril (Alice), sisters, Agnes (Rudolph) Waldschmidt, Georgine (Louis) Jacobs, Rita Mae (John) Giebler, and son in law Lee Heikkila.

Carol J. Griffith – age 84, of Hays died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at Hays Medical Center, Hays.

She was born Nov. 16, 1936, in Sioux falls, S.D. to Kenneth D. and Joy (Daely) Moon. She married Tom Griffith, of 63 years, on June 7, 1957, at Prairie Village, Kan.

She was an international recognized porcelain doll artist in the United States, Europe and Asia. She was a homemaker grew up in the Kansas City area. She was a 1954 graduate of Paseo High School, and moved to Hays in 1991, from Washington. Carol was the consummate fan of the Kansas Jayhawk basketball team, rising in exhalation with them in victory and falling into deep gloom in defeat.

Survivors include her husband, Tom F. Griffith, of the home; two sons, Bryan Griffith, Bothell, Wash.; Brett Griffith and wife, Wendy, Boise, Idaho; one granddaughter, Caitlin Griffith; one brother, Richard Moon, Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Celebration Community Church in care of the mortuary.

Orel Anthony "Tony/ Pee-Wee" Schadel Jr., 80, passed away January 15,
 2021 at the University of Kansas Health Systems, Pawnee Valley Campus, 
Larned, KS.

He was born March 20, 1940 in Cliffside Park, NJ., the son of Orel A. Schadel Sr. and Mary B. Pikulski Schadel.

He graduated from Burdett High School in 1959 and attended college on
 a dual track and football scholarship at Bethany College in Lindsborg, 
KS.

In August 1960 he joined the United States Navy, serving his country 
for 20 years. A proud Navy Veteran, he was stationed at various 
locations around the world including the Philippine Islands; Norfolk, 
VA; New Zealand (Antarctica); Vietnam and San Diego, CA.

In June of 1961 he married Barbara A. Bauer. They had four children. 
They divorced in January 1978. On June 4, 1982 he married Linda A. 
(Stuckey) Johnson in Larned, KS., she survives.

He was a lifetime resident of Burdett, KS. except while serving in 
the Navy. Upon retirement in 1980 he worked briefly at Cross 
Manufacturing, Lewis, KS. and then as a drug/alcohol counselor at 
Sunrise House in Larned, KS. In 1982 he began driving a semi for others 
but eventually became owner/operator of TLS Trucking, retiring in 2002.

He was involved in the community as a member of the Burdett Seniors 
and the American Legion Post 280, currently serving as the commander.

He enjoyed attending Pawnee Heights sporting events supporting and 
cheering the students. In 2005 he became involved with Pawnee Heights 
golfing as a driver to practice and matches as well as an assistant 
coach. He became the head golf coach from 2009 to 2016. Affectionately 
known as G-Pa, he helped coach several students to state competition.

He loved spending time with his family and friends, having afternoon 
coffee at Golden Valley CO-OP, driving trips with his son-in-law, lake 
trips, game nights, puzzles, golf, his children, grandchildren, great 
grandchildren, and happily awaiting the arrival of the newest in March 
and known by family and friends as “The Old Sailor”.

Survivors include: his wife of 38 years, Linda Schadel, Burdett, KS; 
three daughters, Traci (Daniel) Nuckolls, Burdett, KS, Trudi (Rod) 
Eldridge, Larned, KS, Tonya Schadel, Larned, KS; one son, Steven 
Schadel, Denver, CO; eight grandchildren, Erica, Eric (Stephanie), Kyle,
 Raylinn, Isaac, Jessica, Heather, Dallas (Jacob) and one great 
grandson, Landon, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son-in-law, Thomas Seltmann.

Jeremy Carder

Opal M. Miller Jones, 92, passed away January 15, 2021, at Hays 
Medical Center, Hays.&nbsp; She was born November 28, 1928, in Rush County, 
to Julius and Amelia (Georg) Muth.&nbsp; Opal married Merle H. Miller January
 19, 1950, in Great Bend. Merle died February 25, 1992.&nbsp; She later 
married Dale W. Jones April 28, 1994, in Las Vegas.&nbsp; Dale died Sept. 19,
 2008.

Opal, a lifetime resident of Great Bend, was a homemaker, and for 
many years worked part time at Dillon's.&nbsp; She was&nbsp; well known for her 
cake decorating business, which she enjoyed from 1971 to 2010.&nbsp; Opal was
 a member of First United Methodist Church, Eagle's Auxiliary, VFW Post 
3111 Auxiliary and American Legion Argonne Post 180 Auxiliary.&nbsp; She 
enjoyed teaching Sunday School&nbsp; and Vacation Bible School for many 
years.&nbsp; She also liked&nbsp; KU basketball, casinos, bowling,&nbsp; and Bingo.&nbsp; 
She loved to dance. She will be lovingly remembered by her family for 
her never ending generosity, her caring heart, and her sense of humor.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Wharton and husband Nelson of 
Great Bend and Angela Miller and husband Gregg of Alexandria, Va., two 
grandsons, Spencer Wharton and wife Jill of Great Bend and Mathew 
Wharton and wife Laura of Great Bend; and four great grandsons, Jacob, 
Jaret, Brady and Grant.&nbsp; She was preceded in passing by three sisters, 
Betty Kramer, Norma Gulledge and Nadine Clark.

There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place, however, 
the register book will be available to sign from 9:00 to 5:00 Monday 
through Friday at Bryant Funeral Home.&nbsp; Celebration of Life Services are
 pending for a later date.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in Great 
Bend Cemetery, Great Bend.&nbsp; Memorials may be given to First United 
Methodist Church or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant 
Funeral Home.

Opal M. Miller Jones

Russell “Rusty” Jay McDowell passed away on January 15, 2021 at Wesley 
Medical Center in Wichita, KS, at the age of 66. He was born on October 
27, 1954 to Garold and Colista (Price) McDowell in Smith Center, KS. He 
married Linda (Walters) McDowell in Hays, KS on September 18, 1982. They
 were blessed with three sons: Stuart, Bryce, and Brock.
 Rusty grew up in Kirwin, KS. He graduated from Eastern Heights High 
School with the Class of 1972 and attended North Central Kansas 
Technical College in Beloit, KS. He then worked as a contract pumper in 
the oilfield for 20 years and also farmed and had cattle. Rusty enjoyed 
farming and cattle, fishing, camping, and going to the lake, and he 
loved to spend time with his family and grandkids. 
 Rusty is survived by his wife Linda of the home in Plainville; sons,
 Stuart McDowell of Mulvane, KS, Bryce McDowell of Plainville, and Brock
 (Jill) McDowell of Plainville; brother, Kevin (Linda) McDowell of Agra;
 sisters, Pat (Larry) Brunow of St. Francis, KS, Sherry (Terry) 
Griffiths of Lincoln, NE, and Anita Hiler of Henderson, KY; 
sister-in-law, Connie McDowell of Highland Ranch, CO; 7 grandchildren 
(plus one on the way), Brooke and Mercedes McDowell, Bradyn, Brynlee, 
Mason, and Caden McDowell, and Jaxon McDowell and Chase (on the way); 
and 2 great-grandchildren, Cooper and Thea Pater. 
 He is preceded in death by his parents, Garold and Colista McDowell;
 brothers, Neal McDowell and Gene McDowell; and brother-in-law, Mel 
Hiler. 
 Always willing to help someone out, Rusty was a kind-hearted man who
 worked hard, enjoyed life and cherished his family and friends. 
Although he was taken from us far too soon, we know that those we 
enjoyed and loved, we can never lose, for all that we love deeply 
becomes a part of us. We can smile because he lived and left us with 
cherished memories that will live forever in our hearts. He will be 
greatly missed and remembered in love.
 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 21, 
2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville, 
KS. Burial will follow at the St. Severin Cemetery. Visitation will be 
held on Wednesday 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a family Rosary at 7:00 
p.m. at the funeral home in Plainville. The service will be 
livestreamed.

Faye Nadine Hinnergardt, 78, passed away January 15, 2021, at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born September 15, 1942, in Larned, the daughter of Ruben and 
A. Elaine Smith Gross.&nbsp; A lifetime area resident, she worked at the 
Bazine State Bank in her early years, then was a bookkeeper and later 
the Assistant Manager at the Farmers COOP, Burdett.

She was a member of the Burdett United Methodist Church, the United 
Methodist Women and the Shiley Homemakers.&nbsp; She graduated from Airline 
school, was a Cub Scout Leader, enjoyed helping with Sunday School and 
Vacation Bible School activities and enjoyed sewing.

On June 3, 1962, she married Stanley Hinnergardt in Bazine.&nbsp; He survives.

Other survivors include; two sons, Shane Hinnergardt, Burdett and 
Darin (Teresa) Hinnergardt, St. Joseph, Missouri; a sister Debra Munsch,
 Hays, a brother Marvin Gross, Bazine and three grandchildren, Donovan 
Hinnergardt, Brandon Hinnergardt and Amanda (Warren) Cochran.

She was preceded in death by; her parents and two brothers, Raymond Gross and Terry Gross.

A private family service will be held at 10am Tuesday, January 19, 
2021 at the Burdett Methodist Church with pastor Lynda Doyle presiding.
