Donna Lou (Griffin) Lincoln passed away in Aurora, Colorado, after a 
brief hospital stay on April 29, 2021. She was 88 years young. Donna 
was born August 31, 1932, on the family farm north of Jennings Kansas. 
She was the third child born to L.E. (Tobe) and Emma (Rohan) Griffin. 
Donna grew up in Kanona, Kansas and graduated from Decatur Community 
High School in 1950. Donna and Charles Lincoln were married October 18, 
1950. Four children were born to their union: Cheryl-Denver, Colorado, 
Griff-Oberlin, Kansas, Tracy- Oberlin, Kansas, Judy-Colby, Kansas.
 Donna and Charles began their marriage while Charles was in the 
United States Air Force. When they returned to Oberlin; Donna began her 
career in banking. She worked at the Farmers National Bank until it 
changed to Gold Bank where she worked until retirement. Donna was very 
active in her community. She was a member of the American Legion 
Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors of America, and Mini Sappa Antique Club.
 Donna remained very close to her 2 sisters; Faye Miller and Jean 
Zimmerman. They spent countless hours together sewing, attending many 
local area craft fairs, and area high school wrestling tournaments.
 Donna also enjoyed other crafts like ceramics and crocheting. Many 
people have received gifts made by Donna. She crocheted names which 
were framed or simply "welcome" for everyone to enjoy.
 After Donna retired, she focused her creative spirit into quilting. 
 Donna made quilts for her four children and all her grandchildren. As 
Donna's eyesight deteriorated from macular degeneration; it became more 
difficult for her to continue the crafting she enjoyed. 
 Donna had one other "Love" besides her husband, children, and 
grandchildren. "The Cubbies!"-Chicago Cubs. Her love of baseball began 
by listening to games on the radio with her father as a child.
 Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sisters, and 
son-in-law Kenneth Gibson Jr. She is survived by children Cheryl Gibson,
 Griff &amp; Cindy Lincoln, Tracy Lincoln &amp; Sharon Brown, Judy &amp;
 Harlan Call, 8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, other relatives, 
and numerous friends. She will be greatly missed by all.

Lindola (Schuman, Baker) Merriman, 81, of Oakley, KS died May 2, 2021. 
She was born to John D. and Theodora E. (Vawter) Schuman on January 21, 
1940 in Oakley, KS. 
She attended school in Oakley, graduating in 1958, then studied at 
Manhattan (Bible) Christian College for 2 years. Lindola married Francis
 Baker in 1960 and had a daughter, Melissa Lynne Baker, in 1963. Lindola
 and Melissa returned to Oakley in 1973, where she worked at various 
jobs. On December 28, 1983, she married Preston Merriman. 
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. 
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Baker, of Beattie, KS; 2 
sisters, Janet (Paul) Hutchins, of Anderson, MO and Donna (Jack) Hall, 
of Raton, NM; 2 nieces, 5 nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews 
and cousins.

Jane Joan Schonhoff, passed away Monday, May 3, 2021, at the age of 
93. She was born February 4, 1928, at Great Bend, to John &amp; Anna 
(Dougherty) Mooney. She marreid Ed Schonhoff August 2, 1949, at 
Ellinwood. He died August 21, 1999.

Jane was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Derby and St. Rose
 of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend. She was an avid reader. Jane 
especially loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children Debra Smith (Dale),&nbsp;Nancy Weiser( 
Bob),&nbsp;Susan Herrman (Floyd),&nbsp;Mark Schonhoff (Sara),&nbsp;and Julie Schonhoff,
 as well as her grandchildren Matt Schonhoff, Emily Schonhoff, Sam 
Schonhoff, Matt Smith, Ben Smith, Justin Smith, Adam Weiser, Chris 
Weiser, Todd Schonhoff, and Keith Schonhoff.&nbsp;Joan was preceded in death 
by her husband, Edward Schonhoff, her son, Michael Schonhoff, and two 
grandchildren, Timothy and Tiffany Schonhoff.

A private ceremony will take place on Friday, May 7, 2021.

David Thomas Trinka, 71, passed away May 3, 2021, at the University 
Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. He was born May 16, 1949 at
 Hamilton, Ohio, to Ciprian T. &amp; Eleanor (Franklin) Trinka. He 
married Olivey Padilla August 20, 1978 at Fairfield, Ohio.&nbsp; She died 
January 16, 2011.

Coming from the Philippines, David has lived in Great Bend for the 
last year. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during 
the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the VFW. David loved playing 
pool, guns, and reading westerns or books by his favorite author, Clive 
Cussler.

Survivors include, two daughters, Nancy Trinka and Elizabeth Trinka, 
both of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, Paul Trinka of Hamilton, Ohio; a 
sister, Carol Trinka-Skolas and husband Steve of Great Bend; seven 
grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his
 parents; and a brother, Stephen Trinka.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A 
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Ohio. Memorials have
 been designated to the Wounded Warrior Project, in care of Bryant 
Funeral Home.

John William Herl, 72, passed away May 2, 2021, at his home in Great 
Bend. He was born March 29, 1949, in Great Bend, to Victorinus "Vic" and
 Mabel (Leeper) Herl. He married Vicki Day July 29, 1970, and they later
 divorced. He later married Bernadean “Bernie” Stos Suppes on January 
29, 1983, and they later divorced.

John graduated from Great Bend High School in 1967 and later 
graduated from Emporia State University. He went into active duty in the
 United States Army on April 10, 1969, obtaining the rank of Specialist 
4. He transferred into the Army Reserves on November 13, 1970. John was 
honorably discharged on April 9, 1975. John was a family man and a hard 
worker, who proudly worked along-side his family at Corrosion Proof 
Fitting Company. He later owned and operated Herl Pipe &amp; Specialty, 
Inc.

John loved to ride motorcycles, fast cars, gambling, and to travel 
with friends. He was very committed to the Catholic Church and was a 
member of Prince of Peace Parish.&nbsp; John had a calming soul, generous 
heart and especially loved spending time with his family. He never met a
 stranger.

Survivors include, a son, Cameron Herl Day and wife Alma Castillo of 
San Jose, Calif., a daughter, Brandee Harrison of Great Bend; a step 
daughter, Shawna Farley and husband Chris of Dallas, Texas, and a step 
son, Chad Suppes and wife Keri of Hays; his siblings, Vickie Herl of 
Great Bend, Vic "Joe" Herl, Jr. of Arizona, Valerie Hartle and husband 
Allen of North Carolina, James "Jim" Herl of Wichita, Jerry Herl of 
North Dakota and Vanessa McCormick and husband Mike of Ohio; seven 
grandchildren, John E. Herl Day, Breelee Harrison, Brooklee Harrison, 
Baislee Harrison, Brittany Kozura, Kaitlyn Suppes and Kale Suppes; three
 step grandchildren; and eight step great grandchildren. He was preceded
 in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 5,
 2021, with Vigil service held at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial 
will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 6, 2021, at St. Rose of Lima

Bonnie Lee Loughrige, 91, passed away May 3, 2021 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned.

She was born July 15, 1929 in Dodge City, the daughter of Myrl Lador and Gladys Pearl Ackley James.

Moving from McPherson, she was a Larned resident for 64 years. She 
was a member of the First Christian Church, Larned, where she served as a
 Sunday School teacher. She was a member of Christian Women’s 
Fellowship, and helped with the CWF Thrift Shop, member of Larned 
Country Club and Pitch Club. She enjoyed bowling, playing bridge, 
volunteering at the blood mobile, boating, fishing, and water skiing. 
She really enjoyed sports, especially watching her daughter and 
grandchildren play throughout the years, along with watching KU and KSU 
basketball, the Chiefs, and the Royals.

On October 15, 1949 she married Floyd Glen Loughrige at Larned; he preceded her in death on February 27, 2017.

Survivors include: a son, Mark James Loughrige, Pratt; a daughter, 
Kathy Jo (Paul) Heidrick, Manhattan; three grandchildren, Alan (Lisa) 
Heidrick, Julie (Jeff) Moore, Lori (Brad) Scheuerman, all of Manhattan; 
and five great grandchildren, Allison Heidrick, McKenzie Heidrick, Maren
 Moore, Bennett Scheuerman, and Wyatt Scheuerman.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Myrlen Ray James.

Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2021 at Larned 
Cemetery, Larned with Pastor Aaron Withrow presiding. Visitation will be
 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 9, 2021 and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Bonnie Lee Loughrige

Philip T. Kyle, 80, passed away May 3, 2021 at Cedar Village Long Term Care Unit in Ness City, KS.

He was born January 7, 1941 in Wichita, the son of Boyde (Tug) and 
Grace R. Ryan Kyle.&nbsp; A longtime area resident, he was a Magistrate Judge
 in Hodgeman County for 24 years and prior to him being a judge, he was 
in a Law Practice with his wife, Karen.

He was a member of United Methodist Church, Jetmore, American Bar 
Association, Kansas Bar Association, where he served on Legislative and 
Ethic committees, Southwest Kansas Bar Association, past recipient of 
the outstanding District Magistrate Judges award. Appointed to help 
train the new Magistrate judges and was a member of the bar of the 
United State Supreme Court. He was a Vista Volunteer and organized the 
baseball program and library on the Oneida Indian Reservation in Green 
Bay, WI. &nbsp;He was employed by the Kansas Services for the Blind and 
Visual Handicap, a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, and an avid 
sports fan of all kinds.

On December 23, 1972, he married Karen S. Sinclair in Wichita.&nbsp; She survives

Other survivors include; brother, Craig K. Kyle, Quebec, Canada; 
sister-in-law, Jenny Lu Hey, Jetmore; nine nieces and nephews and 
numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Martha Kyle.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 at United 
Methodist church, Jetmore, with Pastor Peter Mtuamwari presiding. 
Service will be viewable via facebook live at <a href="http://www.facebook.com/beckwithmortuary">www.facebook.com/beckwithmortuary</a>.&nbsp;
 Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 7, 2021 at

 </figure>Philip T. Kyle, 80, passed away May 3, 2021 at Cedar Village Long Term Care Unit in Ness City, KS.He was born January 7, 1941 in Wichita, the son of Boyde (Tug) and 
Grace R. Ryan Kyle.&nbsp; A longtime area resident, he was a Magistrate Judge
 in Hodgeman County for 24 years and prior to him being a judge, he was 
in a Law Practice with his wife, Karen.He was a member of United Methodist Church, Jetmore, American Bar 
Association, Kansas Bar Association, where he served on Legislative and 
Ethic committees, Southwest Kansas Bar Association, past recipient of 
the outstanding District Magistrate Judges award. Appointed to help 
train the new Magistrate judges and was a member of the bar of the 
United State Supreme Court. He was a Vista Volunteer and organized the 
baseball program and library on the Oneida Indian Reservation in Green 
Bay, WI. &nbsp;He was employed by the Kansas Services for the Blind and 
Visual Handicap, a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity, and an avid 
sports fan of all kinds.On December 23, 1972, he married Karen S. Sinclair in Wichita.&nbsp; She survivesOther survivors include; brother, Craig K. Kyle, Quebec, Canada; 
sister-in-law, Jenny Lu Hey, Jetmore; nine nieces and nephews and 
numerous great nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Martha Kyle.Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 at United

Eugene Winfred Geisinger

Thomas Louis Stejskal, 72, passed away May 2, 2021, at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born February 17, 1949, in Great Bend, the son of Leonard Ralph and Anna Mae Cramer Stejskal.

A lifetime Pawnee and Edwards County area resident, he was a farmer/rancher; a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Endowment Board, Larned; Knights of Columbus #2141; Edwards County Extension Board; Edwards County 4-H Foundation; Big Bend Water District; Lewis CO-OP Board; Edwards County Program Development Committee; Santa Fe Trail Center Board, Larned; and the Soil Conservation District. He was a 1972 graduate of Fort Hays State University with a BS in Agriculture. He enjoyed working in his shop, building things, welding, and was an avid reader.&nbsp; He especially enjoyed visiting and teasing his family, his friends and his neighbors and giving many of them nicknames.&nbsp; He was quite proud of all the accomplishments and achievements of his four grandsons and always gave his wife flowers, making sure to always sneak in a yellow rose on her birthday and Valentines Day. &nbsp; He hoped to be remembered as being a trustworthy and honest person.&nbsp;

On August 8, 1970, he married Donna M. Morgan at Hays, Kansas; she survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Ross Thomas Stejskal, Colby; a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Marie Stedje, Larned; three brothers, Anthony “Tony” (Chris) Stejskal, Abilene, Timothy “Tim” Stejskal, Larned, Theodore “Ted” (Joyce) Stejskal, Wichita; and four grandchildren, Brendan Stejskal, Bryson Stejskal, John Stedje, and Reed Stedje.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Anna Marie “Susie” Stejskal.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding. Service will be viewable via Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/beckwithmortuary. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with a vigil and rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Inurnment will be in the Larned Cemetery at a later date.&nbsp;

Smith Center resident Kathy J. Willis passed away Monday, April 5, 2021, peacefully at her home.&nbsp; She was 68.

Kathy was born September 20, 1952, in Alma, NE the daughter of Milo and Norma Jean (Stevens) Gitchel.

She met and married Dennis L. Willis on November 11, 1972, at the Englewood Wesleyan Church in Phillips County, KS. &nbsp;

Kathy loved to keep busy with handiwork.&nbsp; She loved sewing, crocheting, and creating dream catchers.&nbsp; All of which were shared with family and friends.&nbsp; She also liked to take time during her day to sit and watch the birds and squirrels in the yard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughters Violet Sue and Pearl Mae; and brothers, Allan and Elbert Lee Gitchel.

Survivors include her husband Dennis L. of the home; daughters Amber Joy Clark of Walla Walla, WA and Dawn Marie Osbern of MN; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a brother Delbert Gitchel of Wilcox, NE; and two sisters Eileen Branstetter of Salina, KS and Lois Haas of Phillipsburg, KS.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2021 in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, KS.

Good Samaritan Society of Decatur County. She was born October 23, 1937 
in Rural Thomas County, Kansas to Oscar and Severina (Johnson) Nelson. 
 Darlene grew up on the family farm five miles North of Winona, KS. 
She attended grade and high school in Page, KS. Darlene married Dennis 
Agan on December 19, 1956 in Colby, KS. She was a life-long resident of 
Western Kansas. Darlene loved Swedish Weaving. 
 She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis in 2016; 
brothers, Larry, Virgil, Wayne, Alvin, Claude, Don, and Leo Nelson; 
sisters, LaVerna Schertz, Louanna Meadows and Nelda Dinning, and 
grandson, Teagan Gish.

Darlene is survived by her sons, Dan Agan of 
Oberlin, KS, Daren (Char) Agan of Oberlin, KS, and Dustin (Laura) Agan

She was born September 10, 1928 in 
Hays, the daughter of Celestine and Josephine (Staab) Karlin.&nbsp; In 1947, 
she graduated from Girls Catholic High School.&nbsp; On June 16, 1948 she was
 united in marriage to Adolph J. Hammerschmidt in Severin, and they 
celebrated 62 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on 
December 31, 2010.&nbsp; She worked at St. Anthony Hospital as a candy 
striper, ward clerk, and licensed practical nurse and at Hiltz 
Janitorial Supply until her retirement.&nbsp; Her memberships included 
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Hays Daughters of Isabella
 Circle #254, and was a Perpetual Eucharistic Adorer.&nbsp; She enjoyed 
cooking, baking, and reading short stories in magazines and Reader’s 
Digest.&nbsp; Her faith and family were most important to her.&nbsp; She enjoyed 
visiting family, was a good listener, and faithfully prayed the rosary.&nbsp;

Survivors include a son: Steve 
Hammerschmidt and wife Janet of Fleming Island, FL, two daughters: Tammy
 Gottschalk and husband Jeff and Lisa Staab and husband Doug all of 
Holcomb, a daughter-in-law: Jolene Burd and husband Mike, a brother:

Patricia Ann Haley, 73, died May 2, 2021, at Azria Health of 
Ellinwood.&nbsp; She was born July 27, 1947, in Hoisington, Kansas, the 
daughter of &nbsp;Robert J. and Mayola Fae (Beatty) Haley.

A longtime Claflin resident, Patricia was baptized in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.&nbsp;

Survivors include; a brother, Dennis Haley of Merrionette Park, 
Illinois; 4 nieces and 1 nephew and several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Roberta Haley and Mary Barta.

Daniel Taylor

Janice Irene (Persell) Colgan was born January 3, 1941 in rural Phillips
 County, KS, the youngest of 3 daughters born to Dale and Mona (Molzahn)
 Persell. She passed away on May 2, 2021 at the age of 80, at the Good 
Samaritan Center, in Atwood, KS. 
Janice grew up in Norton, KS, where she attended grade school. She 
graduated High School from Holdrege High School, in Holdrege, NE, in 
1959. Janice attended business school in Denver, CO, where she earned 
her Business degree. On June 3, 1961, she married James L. Colgan, in 
Orleans, NE. James was in the Air Force which took them to Perrin 
Air Force base in Sherman, TX. To this union, two sons were born, Timothy
 James Colgan and James (Jim) Leonard Colgan Jr. The family of 4 
relocated to Atwood in 1968. 
Janice spent her entire adult life working as an office manager at 
various business in Atwood. She retired from her job at the Natural 
Resource Conservation Service. Other businesses included Farm Bureau, 
Warta Chiropractic and Montgomery Wards. 
Janice loved her family, which included her Siamese cats. She enjoyed 
attending her grandchildren's music concerts, reading, bowling, and 
attending Bible study. She was a member of the United Methodist Women 
and the Red Hatters. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim; brother-in-Law 
Paul Roth; sister Wanda Fisher, and grandson Bryce Colgan. 
Janice is survived by her son, Tim and Lori Colgan, of Atwood and their 
children, Lyndsi, of Atwood, Sarah Reunitz, of Curaçao, Cameron, of 
Lawrence and Harrison, of Manhattan; her son Jim and Pam Colgan, of 
Colby, and their son Dalton (MaKayla), of Colby; sister Carol Roth, of 
Kearny, NE; brother-in-Law Neil Fisher, of Spokane, WA and many nieces 
and nephews. 
Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at
 the Atwood United Methodist Church, with visitation starting at 10:00 
a.m. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Atwood. Memorials may

 </figure>Janice Irene (Persell) Colgan was born January 3, 1941 in rural Phillips
 County, KS, the youngest of 3 daughters born to Dale and Mona (Molzahn)
 Persell. She passed away on May 2, 2021 at the age of 80, at the Good 
Samaritan Center, in Atwood, KS. 
Janice grew up in Norton, KS, where she attended grade school. She 
graduated High School from Holdrege High School, in Holdrege, NE, in 
1959. Janice attended business school in Denver, CO, where she earned 
her Business degree. On June 3, 1961, she married James L. Colgan, in 
Orleans, NE. James was in the Air Force which took them to Perrin 
Air Force base in Sherman, TX. To this union, two sons were born, Timothy
 James Colgan and James (Jim) Leonard Colgan Jr. The family of 4 
relocated to Atwood in 1968. 
Janice spent her entire adult life working as an office manager at 
various business in Atwood. She retired from her job at the Natural 
Resource Conservation Service. Other businesses included Farm Bureau, 
Warta Chiropractic and Montgomery Wards. 
Janice loved her family, which included her Siamese cats. She enjoyed 
attending her grandchildren's music concerts, reading, bowling, and 
attending Bible study. She was a member of the United Methodist Women 
and the Red Hatters. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim; brother-in-Law 
Paul Roth; sister Wanda Fisher, and grandson Bryce Colgan. 
Janice is survived by her son, Tim and Lori Colgan, of Atwood and their 
children, Lyndsi, of Atwood, Sarah Reunitz, of Curaçao, Cameron, of 
Lawrence and Harrison, of Manhattan; her son Jim and Pam Colgan, of 
Colby, and their son Dalton (MaKayla), of Colby; sister Carol Roth, of 
Kearny, NE; brother-in-Law Neil Fisher, of Spokane, WA and many nieces 
and nephews. 
Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at
 the Atwood United Methodist Church, with visitation starting at 10:00 
a.m. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Atwood. Memorials may

Jeremiah&nbsp; Joseph “Jeremy” Slemp, 41, Hoisington, Kansas, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas.

Jeremy was born November 19, 1979, in Sturgis, Michigan, the son of Joseph E. and Sandra K. (McClain) Slemp.&nbsp; He was a resident of Hoisington, Kansas, for one year, moving from Bison, Kansas.&nbsp; A 1998 graduate of Constantine High School, Constantine, Michigan, he was the Central Kansas Commercial Account Manager for Advance Auto Parts.

He was an active member of the Hays Soccer Club, Hays, Kansas, both as a player and a youth coach.&nbsp; He was a life member of the NRA, and loved to hunt.

On September 14, 2002, he married Ashley K. Henry at Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;

Survivors include:&nbsp; his wife, Ashley Slemp, Hoisington, Kansas; four sons, Dakota Slemp, Dillon Slemp, Dawson Slemp, and Deklan Slemp of the home; his father and step mother, Joseph “Joe” and Linda Slemp, La Crosse, Kansas; his mother, Sandra Hummel, Constantine, Michigan; his maternal grandmother, Mary McClain, Three Rivers, Michigan; one sister, Lacy Quake (Andrew), Three Rivers, Michigan; and one step brother, Ron Reed (April), La Crosse, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his step father, Lee Hummel; his paternal grandparents, James and Billie Slemp; and his maternal grandfather, Kenneth McClain.

The family will host a celebration of Jeremy’s life Friday, May 7, 2021, at 5:00 P.M. at 1006 2nd Street, Albert, Kansas.&nbsp; Guests are welcome and may bring a side dish or dessert if they so choose.

Roger N. Brown, 60, Walker, died Saturday, May 1, 2021, at HaysMed.

He was born July 15, 1960, in Russell, 
the son of Richard and Bertha (Windholz) Brown.&nbsp; He attended Victoria 
High School.&nbsp; On September 22, 1979, he was united in marriage to Karen 
Hoffman in Vincent.&nbsp; They later separated.&nbsp; He worked in the oilfield, 
owned Brown’s Fish Farm, and worked for Russell County doing road 
maintenance.&nbsp; He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, riding UTVs, and
 being with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his two sons: Chad 
Brown and wife Amanda of Hays and Clint Brown of Gorham, two brothers: 
Richard Brown, Jr. and Rodney Brown and wife Michelle all of Gorham, 
three sisters: Colene Schmitt and husband J.W. of Gorham, Jolene Purvis 
and husband Joe of Lubbock, TX, and Galene Steckel of Russell, three 
grandchildren: Trayson, Lincoln, and Lilly Brown, and numerous nieces 
and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at The Basilica of St. Fidelis Church 
with Fr. James Moster, OFM Cap. officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow in 
St. Fidelis Cemetery.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm 
until 8:00 on Tuesday and from 1:00 pm until service time on Wednesday,

Velma Jean Maxwell, 83, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, died May 14, 2020, at The Gardens Nursing Home in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.

Jean was born on October 11, 1937, in Gorham, Kansas, the daughter of Herbert and Lydia (Dreiling) Hammersmith. She grew up in Gorham and graduated from Gorham High School.

She was an RN and retired from St. Francis Hospital located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She loved flowers and gardening, sewing and quilting, and dancing.

Surviving family include, 3 daughters Linda, Lisa, and Laura; her brother Gary Hammersmith and his wife Linda; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

A small service and burial of the cremains will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Gorham, Kansas.

Longtime Goodland resident Marjorie Joyce Quast, age 80, was called 
home Friday, April 30, 2021, surrounded by family and friends.&nbsp; 
She was born October 27, 1940, in Pueblo. Colorado the daughter of Jack 
and Ruth (Lawrence) Van Ness.&nbsp; Marge grew up in Lake George and Rye, 
Colorado and graduated High School in Rye in 1958.&nbsp; She then attended 
Western Bible College and the Emily Griffith School of Nursing and 
graduated with her LPN in 1964.&nbsp; On January 13, 1965, she married John 
Quast in Pueblo, to this union four children were born Monica, Dale, 
Randy and Tohnna.&nbsp; They moved to Goodland in 1971.&nbsp; 
Marge was a nurse for 40 plus years, she worked at Good Samaritan 
Center, Clinic Nurse for Dr McCullough’s Office, Golden West, State of 
Kansas Homemaker Supervisor, and the Kit Carson Correctional Center in 
Burlington, CO. She looked forward to summer trips to the Rocky 
Mountains, camping, fishing, and anything else outdoors and playing 
cards.&nbsp; Marge was proud to tell of her college days when she was a 
figure-eight race car driver.&nbsp; She dearly loved spending time with her 
family and her church family, she didn’t know a stranger always chatting
 and hugging everyone she met and didn’t hesitate to let her family know
 that the true loves of her life were her grand dogs.&nbsp; Marge was a 
member of the Calvary Gospel Church of Goodland.&nbsp;

Marjorie Joyce Quast

Shirley Ruth Green, 91, a loving and 
devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and 
follower of Jesus Christ died peacefully in the early morning hours of 
May 2, 2021 at Hays Medical Center.

Shirley was born Feb. 12, 1930 in Great
 Bend, KS, to Clarence and Anna (Geil) Seeber.&nbsp; A fourth generation 
Kansan, Shirley spent the early years of her life near Great Bend on the
 Seeber family farm homesteaded by her great-grandfather, a Civil War 
veteran.&nbsp; She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1947 as class 
Salutatorian. She met her future husband, Joseph (Dick) Green at Wichita
 University (now Wichita State).&nbsp; Dick and Shirley married June 4, 
1948.&nbsp; They moved to Hays in 1952, where they raised six children.&nbsp;

Shirley resumed her college education 
at Fort Hays State College in 1962 after the birth of her last child. 
Within four years, she graduated Summa Cum Laude with two Bachelor 
degrees and a Master’s of Science Degree.&nbsp; Shirley began her teaching 
career as a science instructor at Fort Hays State in 1967.&nbsp; Most of 
Shirley’s career teaching science was at Hays High School and Hays 
Junior High School.&nbsp; The added income from teaching made it possible for
 all six children to go to college.&nbsp;&nbsp;

After 13 years of teaching science, she
 left teaching to help Dick with his business, Green Oil Operations. She
 was elected to the board of Unified School District 489 in 1980 and 
served for several terms. She continued her life of service to others as
 a board member at First Call for Help for 20 years. She delivered Meals
 on Wheels for years and prepared and served meals at church funeral 
dinners until she was 90 years old. Shirley and Dick provided a home for
 many foster children and served on mission trips at home and abroad, 
building homes for people who had none. In 2016, she was honored for 57 
years of service at First United Method Church in Hays. As a mother, a 
teacher, a community leader, and a passionate disciple of Christ, 
Shirley touched thousands of lives.

Beginning in the late 1970s, Shirley 
and Dick traveled widely in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, 
Central, and South America as well as across the United States 
especially in the West. They loved our national parks.&nbsp; Shirley and Dick
 went on several Elder Hostel trips, always taking opportunities even 
when retired to keep learning and growing.&nbsp; The sciences and the natural
 world were subjects of lifelong fascination for them both. Shirley and 
Dick were chosen to be among the first group of American geologists and 
scientists permitted to enter China in 1981.&nbsp; The two were married for 
63 years.&nbsp; Their door was always open to their kids' friends, for a 
meal, a place to stay, or just to hang out.

Shirley was preceded in death by an 
infant, Karen; her husband, Dick; her son, Craig; her parents, her 
brothers Harlan Seeber and Glenn Seeber; and numerous in-laws. Survivors
 include her brother Dean (Susan) Seeber of Wichita, her sons Richard 
(Pam) of California, MO; Larry (Patsy) of New Hope, MN; Jerry (Susan) of
 Hays; Robert (Melissa) of Bethesda, MD; daughter-in-law Tina (Craig) of
 Livingston, TN; and daughter Krista (Len) Mize of Arvada, CO. Shirley 
had 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way. 
Shirley Green was one of a kind and will be forever missed by her 
family, friends and all who knew her.

A celebration of life will be at 10:00 
am on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at the Hays First United Methodist Church 
with Rev. Mike Rose officiating.&nbsp; Private family inurnment will follow

 </figure>Shirley Ruth Green, 91, a loving and 
devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and 
follower of Jesus Christ died peacefully in the early morning hours of 
May 2, 2021 at Hays Medical Center.Shirley was born Feb. 12, 1930 in Great
 Bend, KS, to Clarence and Anna (Geil) Seeber.&nbsp; A fourth generation 
Kansan, Shirley spent the early years of her life near Great Bend on the
 Seeber family farm homesteaded by her great-grandfather, a Civil War 
veteran.&nbsp; She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1947 as class 
Salutatorian. She met her future husband, Joseph (Dick) Green at Wichita
 University (now Wichita State).&nbsp; Dick and Shirley married June 4, 
1948.&nbsp; They moved to Hays in 1952, where they raised six children.&nbsp;Shirley resumed her college education 
at Fort Hays State College in 1962 after the birth of her last child. 
Within four years, she graduated Summa Cum Laude with two Bachelor 
degrees and a Master’s of Science Degree.&nbsp; Shirley began her teaching 
career as a science instructor at Fort Hays State in 1967.&nbsp; Most of 
Shirley’s career teaching science was at Hays High School and Hays 
Junior High School.&nbsp; The added income from teaching made it possible for
 all six children to go to college.&nbsp;&nbsp;After 13 years of teaching science, she
 left teaching to help Dick with his business, Green Oil Operations. She
 was elected to the board of Unified School District 489 in 1980 and 
served for several terms. She continued her life of service to others as
 a board member at First Call for Help for 20 years. She delivered Meals
 on Wheels for years and prepared and served meals at church funeral 
dinners until she was 90 years old. Shirley and Dick provided a home for
 many foster children and served on mission trips at home and abroad, 
building homes for people who had none. In 2016, she was honored for 57 
years of service at First United Method Church in Hays. As a mother, a 
teacher, a community leader, and a passionate disciple of Christ, 
Shirley touched thousands of lives.Beginning in the late 1970s, Shirley 
and Dick traveled widely in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, 
Central, and South America as well as across the United States 
especially in the West. They loved our national parks.&nbsp; Shirley and Dick
 went on several Elder Hostel trips, always taking opportunities even 
when retired to keep learning and growing.&nbsp; The sciences and the natural
 world were subjects of lifelong fascination for them both. Shirley and 
Dick were chosen to be among the first group of American geologists and 
scientists permitted to enter China in 1981.&nbsp; The two were married for 
63 years.&nbsp; Their door was always open to their kids' friends, for a 
meal, a place to stay, or just to hang out.Shirley was preceded in death by an 
infant, Karen; her husband, Dick; her son, Craig; her parents, her 
brothers Harlan Seeber and Glenn Seeber; and numerous in-laws. Survivors
 include her brother Dean (Susan) Seeber of Wichita, her sons Richard 
(Pam) of California, MO; Larry (Patsy) of New Hope, MN; Jerry (Susan) of
 Hays; Robert (Melissa) of Bethesda, MD; daughter-in-law Tina (Craig) of
 Livingston, TN; and daughter Krista (Len) Mize of Arvada, CO. Shirley 
had 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way. 
Shirley Green was one of a kind and will be forever missed by her 
family, friends and all who knew her.A celebration of life will be at 10:00 
am on Thursday, May 6, 2021 at the Hays First United Methodist Church 
with Rev. Mike Rose officiating.&nbsp; Private family inurnment will follow
